Simple or elaborate PTX performances are both wonderful, but I prefer their simple performances. I can focus more on each individual's voice, and how it fits together with the other members in the group.

The song that you thought this was originally is called Dance Of The Sugar Plum Faerie. And yes, PTX has covered that one as well (so of course it is a BEAUTIFUL rendition). There are no lyrics so it's not actually a song...boy do they ever blur the line! :)

This is the video that made me a pentaholic. Love this song. Watched an interview a few months ago. They hiked a couple of hours into a forest, following the stream, trying to find a waterfall, carrying a generator. They finally stopped, did the video, and the generator died at the end of the last take. So they hiked back, carrying said generator. They laugh about it now.

They are amazing aren’t they! I love Avi’s part in this one ... all his bassiness lol. Also I have noticed how Avi’s bass always accents Mitch’s high tones . They balance each other gorgeously !!!
I never realized how much bass Scott sings in this song. He appears to be working closely with Avi on much of the song.
@@chrystallangille1667 yes ptx is amazing in that with their different ranges they support each other during songs... Scott can go low but not as low as AVI of course so they arrange it so Scott can do a bass while AVI is doing a solo. AVI can cover for part of Scott’s solos too . The highest I have heard AVI go is in their song Light in the Hallway. It’s an original that Scott wrote for his nephew, apparently. It’s a beautiful lullaby. 😃
Mitch and Avi complement each other from opposite ends of the scale, and Scott, Kristin and Kevin fill in the harmony here. Beautiful to listen to.

I am always amazed at how Mitch gets thru that first verse. It seems he never takes a breath.
A couple of favorites for me are "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "That's Christmas to Me".

Carol of the Bells, aka does Mitch breathe? (Maybe through his ears?) His lung capacity and breath control is out of this world. He makes it so look so effortless too,
And as much as I adore Mitch & Scott's voices together (like they're vocal soul mates or something), there's something so special about when Mitch & Avi duet that very high vs very low is just...it hits all the good spots.
Who could NOT Love the wonderful Irishman, Barry??? No One! Your reviews never let us down, they are spot on. ALL of the members of PTX are SO Talented and their voices blend perfectly! And the perfect voice of Mitch .... Mitch and his voice were made fun of all through high school ... Who's laughing now??? This is one of their earlier videos so they were were still very young. For your info--Pentatonix had the #1 selling Xmas album for 2019. Look up the meaning of Pentatonix and you will understand why they chose the name! Awesome!

I think I watched an interview with them, they were asked which song was their favorite, i believe a couple of them said this one because they did it on one take. Yes, I'm pretty sure it was this one.

I LOVE this version. I can appreciate from personal experience how hard this song is to sing in a choral setting. I can't even imagine trying four-part harmony a cappella with a beat boxer!! And there's a reason why about half of their albums are Christmas albums!

I remember thinking when this came out that they thought of doing this when they realized what their warm ups sounded like. But the type like this, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies is awesome.
You definitely need to react to their version of Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. It's their second Grammy. Only PTX can do a song without words and make it sound so beautiful.
I think this and Mary did you know were the first two Pentatonix songs I heard. I was completely sold. The utter brilliance of the arrangements to make five voices sound like 20.
They have 6 Christmas albums. One of which was the number 4 album of the year! They are definitely known for their Christmas music 😅
You really can't go wrong with anything Christmas by PTX or Home Free. Take your pick! Every single song is just spectacular.

P.S. The Irish counting was so fast I had to slow down the speed to 1/2 speed to get it to a “normal” speed. Still didn’t get all of it. That is why my dictionary only counted to 4. 🤣😂 I may have to listen several more times and add the rest to it. It has additions since I first posted it.

Mitch Kirsten and Scott were only 19 when they won the sing off and I don’t think this was done too long after they won
This performance is a testament to the background they had throughout their school years in choir and various choral groups, doing madrigals and sacred music. It was the perfect training for what they've been able to achieve musically. And I would add to others' suggestions of "Silent Night" (done live in a cathedral in Germany while they were on tour) and "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies" from Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker", the arrangement of which won them their 2nd Grammy (and which beautifully displays Avi's opera training as a Basso Profundo).
The stars really aligned when this group got together.

You know what my FAVORITE thing about YOUR reaction videos in particular is? That you often stare right at me through the camera, and since I'm basically always just there delighting in watching you react to an artist/song I've adored for years, I'm just sitting there grinning ear to ear, looking back at you and nodding vigorously like "I KNOW RIGHT IT'S JUST THAT GOOD" lol! It feels like we're actually looking at each other. Love it!

Some say Happy Holidays in America. There are a vast majority of us who say "Merry Christmas" and God Bless.
Barry do you not agree? The texture of Avi's bass caresses the listener's souls, and stands out beautifullywhen the deep bass is surrounded by Mitch and his clear angelic tones, Scott is adding soulful support and clearly entwining with Kirstie and Mitch, KO KEVIN, heavens help them, where would they be with his beatboxing underpinning and dancing in and throughout? As you have said before Barry, when you listen to them a lot, as we pentaholics do, you can hear each of them distinctly if you listen closely but the dance of their voices all together thrill and delight the ear and the soul if truth be told. This is a shining example of how Avi and Kevin worked together to give them an utterly new sound. The amazing longstanding trio was doubly blessed to add them. Avi's bass calms me like when a child is comforted by a parent's voice and heartbeat when leaning into one or the other of them. safe, warm, comforted, protected. It is very difficult to explain as are most things that are visceral. I think you might understand what I mean. Yes, am an Avi fan also. I appreciate Matt, very much, and this is not to put him down, but the visceral comfort is missing somewhat although am still very loving our Pentatonix in either grouping. They are an entity unto themselves for me. Utterly unquestionably doing their destiny. Do you agree, Barry? (sitting next to you on the Barry tour bus as I listen to these PTXChristmas reaction videos again. Christmas candles glowing and cinnamon and orange, cardamom, nutmeg and pine wafting through the air.) Lovely.
