It is a mad, mad world, Barry. BUT, we have some ppl that can make it interestingly mad and gets us through it. I was watching Home Free's "Butts Remix" and thinking of how I'd love to see your reaction to it. I mean, it's about butts... There is a lot to say there. (Depending on how big the butt is, of course) and laugh about. Butts are funny. Love from Bama.

This Mad World cover had me in goosebumps the whole way through. Absolutely beautiful and I agree with you about the menacing undertones. Pentatonix are second to none! Thank you for what you do in bringing these great artists to the forefront. I remember your very first review of them. I already knew how wonderful they were and it was such a joy to see someone discover them for the first time. Love your reactions!

This is the cover I was listening to in a loop while I sat at my computer deciding how I wanted to end my life. I'd hurt for too long. There was no point to anything anymore. And I kept retuning to that line, "The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had." And I decided that yes, that was the answer. If I wasn't here, I wouldn't hurt anymore. And that was SUCH a comforting feeling. No more pain. Thankfully I didn't get that far. PTX dropped their cover of Be My Eyes. And for the first time in longer than I could remember I believed that not only could I BE loved. But that I WAS loved. I am grateful to them every day for doing what they do. I feel closer to these five beautiful people than I have most of the people in my life. Woof. This was hard to sit through. I hadn't listened to it since the day I decided that suicide was not the answer. But if I couldn't share this with my dear friend Barry, then who? I'm glad I did. I'm glad I listened. Because this confirmed for me that I made the right choice. This song no longer holds the power over me that it once did. I can appreciate it as a beautiful song, done by amazing singers. And that is enough.

I'm a Pentaholic who is new to your reactions. I really like the way you do them, reacting first then playing the video again to review. I agree that this is a great version of this song. It is so hauntingly beautiful and they all sound wonderful doing it. I especially like hearing Mitch singing in his lower register and with Matt. He has such a beautiful tone throughout his very broad range, as you have obviously noticed. He and Matt sound so good together on this one.
Signature PTX! The wall of sound!! The intricate harmonies!! The silence break!! The surprises!! Mitch’s strong lower register! Mitch & Matt brought spectacular harmonies the likes of which we’ve never heard so clearly before! Also I heard those beautiful bell tones!
Scott really shines in this song. They all do really. What I find odd is this song is just as relevant as when it came out almost 40 years ago.
I like Matt’s notes here. His bass in this song almost has its own synthesizer quality.
Mitch has a cover of Billie Eilish’s Your Power out. You really need to check that out- it’s amazing.

They have a way of bringing out the true reason behind the words through how they arraigned their voice harmony.

I LOVE the special effects in this PTX video. I heard Mad World for the first time while watching the movie Donnie Darko. The movie immediately became one my most favorite movies. The special effects here mimic the movie, so very cool. Amazing review Barry! 👏👌🙌👍❤💖👏

So glad you are back, although I completely understand your need to take a break under the circumstances. My deepest condolences.
My husband passed away on June 7th after a year battling cancer. He was only 61, so it was a difficult loss.
I pray you are healing and find music a balm for your weary soul. Music is so important to help us process and cope.
Its a hard road to travel and praying that you reach out if you need to talk. A lot of us have been in those shoes... Use us! Big hugs.

Such a melancholy song ad they smash it.
A couple suggestion, if I may? Kevin has his own channel and is fantastic! Avi released a CD called Change is on the rise and that is also fantastic. Additionally, Scott did a song with Rozzi. Check that out! It is qualitacious! She also has an album that is a true work of art. She has a smokey voice and incredible range.

It was incredibly poignant when they released this last September because of all the madness going on in the world regarding the pandemic and especially regarding the BLM movement around the world in response to the murder of George Floyd. It was the right song for the moment. I'm so glad you reacted to it. I hope you are doing well. Hugs from scaldingly hot sunny Florida.
I literally wrote the same sentiments about when they released this video we most definitely were living in a very mad world. They know how to react to things in this world and do it beautifully by using their abilities and not harsh words, etc.
Lucky you with sun. It was 24 degrees here in Dublin but we had heavy cloud cover and very little sun. It felt very hot and oppressive. 24 is positively a heat wave in Ireland!

This one came out right in the middle of the pandemic and all the civil unrest, and was a very appropriate song for the time. This is right up there with Imagination for its use of that amazing Wall of Sound. Interestingly, it has only appeared on this video and a single, and has not appeared on any album yet.
The lyrics and haunting tune impacted me enough the first time I heard it over 30 years ago on an episode of CSI that I had to look into it. Pentatonix brings it back to life for me absolutely perfectly. I could listen to them sing it over and over again. Strangely enough the song gives me hope.

Barry, you have hit the EXACT formula for these reaction videos. Let us all drink in the music and have the experience with you, then go back and review it with pauses and insights/reactions. Best intro of any YT channel! Qualitacious is a word. I haven't used outside of Barry's channel because I haven't found a reason or situation that garners the use of it yet. But when I do... I will say it with conviction :). Great reaction as always! I'm not a Tears for Fears fan so I don't know if their version was menacing. The cover from a few years ago certainly does. Very melancholy, which I prefer.
Their arrangements and voices are always perfection.

I love it when you review Pentatonix, and I love your system of letting the song play uninterrupted the first time. I wish other reviewers would take the hint and do that too. Looks like I'm the second BB from Indiana to comment on this lovely reaction and review. Thanks so much for sharing your heart with our heartland! I have to say, for me, the heart clenching moment in this one is Mitch's piercing look on the line, "Looked right through me." Can't help but feel it, knowing that he was putting his own experience behind it. Sadly, all of us are overlooked at some point in our lives. But know this, Barry: Your BBs see you. Uhhhh! 1982 and Tears for Fears appeared with their Mad World. I completely agree with you that (maybe) it is the best version of this song I have heard. PTX perfectly draws that kind of depressing frustration that could already be seen in the original version. And right now, here, we have a good storm, with its lightning and thunder (and a lot of heat, even in northwestern Spain). It seemed like the perfect moment for this song .... although I really like storms! (but that's another history, you know, if I start writing ...). If I go a little further, 1972, I can tell you "You are always on my mind". Kisses from the storm.
i remember it, and i never found it depressing - rather, it was 'omg, someone else is an alien archeologist studying humans!' Tears for Fears didn't mean it as a depressing song.
