Haida - Tricky, But A Lot Of Fun

- The Haida is not the easiest DD to make shine, the lack of torps and awkward turret angles can make it feel awkward, yet thanks to the consumables the ship has enormous potential. You can find my recommended build at the end as usual.
Not a ship I would recommend as a first premium, but the ship has great potential in experienced hands.

Flamu how come I don't have access to the smoke mod. There's just 3. Main battery, aa guns, and aiming systems. How'd you get the smoke mod? That would really come in handy for me

How to use the HMCS Haida:
1. Fire on enemy
2. Apologize
3. Repeat

I love the Haida, I'll never forget the first time I got to go and see her in person, she is a fine Ship.
One thing that saddens me is that in the UK we have so few of our historic ships saved, they scrapped the Warspite for pity's sake :(
Well, considering UK pretty much broke after WW2, I.... think there's not much they can do anyway. :P

One think to mention: WG listened to Canadians and changed the configuration of flags! Now u can choose between the Commonwealth or the Canadian flag!
Just got her today, you got me all excited and although you're not wrong, I didn't realize we had the same flag as the Brits back then/in-game. *Sad Canadian noises

Stealthy Icytail to be fair, akatsuki's gun power shouldn't be underestimated. you can deal 3k damage every 7s if you hit the mark. torps are god tier as well. it's the detection that really hurts this ship, but gun angles are decent for kiting, so keep them hot.
akatsuki is fine, as you said good guns, decent torps (not god tier at all lol, the detection is still absolutely terrible). its a fun ship, no issues with that
Its like what Jingles said, this thing is very strong in the hands of an exceptional captai and not everyone is going to like how its supposed to be played.
All I can think of is that I forget to count the number of times I heard the word 'fun'

Haida's secondary build is OP.
Liked the Perth, love this one. Spot on Flamu with the things you said. I find this ship very fun to play, tho the radar meta is a pain, there are still things with the tools you got you can pull off for a fun game.

This is how i play my haida
1. I shoot them until they start to burn
2. Torp them
3. Laugh hysterically
4. Repeat
What about IFHE for the 25mm cruisers and/or BBs?
this kinda reminds me the CBT DD where 5 DDs on both teams all have 65s+ smoke
DDs would mostly crawl in the smoke and force spot each other at 2km
real fun time lol (and the old days DDs had citidals and torpedo tubes hit are automatic detonation 100%)
Leave it to the Canadian ship to be running around the map with a big cloud of smoke behind it
You can literally buy the Haida just for that ridiculous smoke; it's so strong to just gunboat for a few minutes without the risk of getting torp spammed by another DD by sitting in one spot.
yea its fun that smoke but hey with all the radar well meh got me killed alot thinking I was safe in it
That's the great thing about that smoke though. You get lit up by some radar and you just take your smoke and leave and once out of range you still have time to gun down whatevers around you.

Pretty much the same opinion I've been hearing about the Haida, and it fits with what I've played in it so far. Not for newbies, but if you like playing DDs and you like being aggressive in 'em then this ship might fit your bill. The HE makes her a damn good DD-hunter.
As a Canadian I still didn't have time to actually go down to visit Haida. I should go sometime this summer.
As for the ship in-game, at T7 it is rather unique but it feels quite specialized. A good DD hunter, but with only 4 torpedoes, long reload, crap AA & the Perth smoke makes it a rather high skill ship to play well.

Great I got a 20% coupon for celebrating my 3 years WoWs account and I was looking at this ship And thks to you Flamu, I may actually buy a Canadian destroyer, which I really didn’t thought it could be good, specially for a not DD player as myself (I have good numbers but I don’t like much playing DDs. The exception is my recently bought Gaede)

I bought the Haida and it's been winning more than losing for me with a couple of 1st place finishes in only 6-7 matches.
Sounds like a fun bote, but the detection range is a bit too good imho... spotting in a shira gets even riskier now. *sadly pois away*.
14-3 in randoms with the Haida right now. I never use AP, it's 100% HE. I mainly rely on the torps except when facing weaker DDs.
The French DDs, Cossacks, and Akizukis are the hardest to fight against.
Also used it in the ranked sprint for a ton of wins and XP.
FR DDs have garbage DPM w/o reload booster (except mogador, he's a threat even without). So when you catch a Guépard, Vauquelin or Le Fantasque by surprise, having the best HE DPM of t7 won't be fun for them.
One big downside is the simple fact that it is a commonwealth ship. So captains arent transferable. (Except with the Perth)
That's why I'm giving it a miss tbh
Something WG needs to change. Plenty of RN captains served on Commonwealth ships during WW2

Bought this thing yesterday, A bit expensive with the canadian cammo but damn what a fun little ship!
Personally though I prefer hydroacoustic search mod 1 instead of propulsion mod 1
This has a pair of 102mm dual purpose secondaries. I would like to see a viable secondary build for those or for them to be used as a main battery but with different characteristics. To make this ship truly unique.

Once you figure out how to play this ship, it's monstrously effective.
What I'm surprised about is it has effectively four turrets, but WG didn't make the secondary 102 mm one manual and fire-able at will. I don't think that would make the ship OP, but apparently WG thinks otherwise.

How would you compare Haida with Blyskawica, which one is better, or how do they differ in gameplay (beside the smoke ofcourse).

I can confirm the Haida needs skill because I have sunk most I have seen despite the supposed firepower and concealment advantages. Heck, I shot one to death in a Fubuki. Most players at this time, July of 2018, using Haida are clearly not the experienced hands needed to make it shine. That said, it should be a great ship for those few who understand; Just like the Graf Spee back in the day.

Honestly I hoped they would make that single secondary gun a fun gimic. Were it has 5 KM range, and being stupidly accurate, so it could help out a little in knifefights with other DD's.

TDTNightmare It was commissioned and served in WW2 as G63. The in-game model is in WW2 configuration, before guns were removed to make way for ASW mortars. Use your Google-fu.

No IFHE?
Im surprised as well. Honestly i found the HAIDA started to shine with a little IFHE love.. if i was him that's what i would spend those last 4 skill points on.
It's rare to find people who think of putting IFHE on DDs as it's really not useful at high tiers where most of their captains sit. But in Haida's case, her captain is basically spending all his time on this ship. And since Haida is tier 7, grabbing IFHE allows her to use that fantastic HE on even battleship plating her tier ... or at worst, non-USN or KM heavy cruisers at tiers 8 and 9. And curiously, IFHE also buffs her secondary turret so that it actually damages higher tier DDs, so food for thought.
I will be using my Perth captain, who will use IFHE once I get the points. Not a bad multi-purpose captain tbh

Haida has more health, better firing angles on both the torpedo launcher and the turrets, comes with a hydro and it has narrow spread and single spread, instead of Cossacks wide and single spread on its torps.
Haida addresses the problems Flamu had with Cossack, and that's why it's much better.

The Cossack (Gen 3) has 4 turrets now, combining GM & Haida's turret layout, and 5.1 km concealment, plus hydro, with normal smokes
Cossack is also tier 8 now with those changes.
Just bought this ship. Seems War Gaming modified and BALANCED (Downgraded) this ship after your video. They also removed the smoke generator modification option as well. I've only played a few games in the Haida, but WTF is going on with this ship. I know how to play DD's, but for some reason it feels like this ship is nothing close to being the Gunboat it's been promoted to be prior to the release.
Have you played this ship recently Flamu? Do you know if War Gaming downgraded or altered this ship after your review and prior to its release tot he public? I know this is a challenging ship, but this thing feels and plays like absolute garbage. Good concealment, etc.. but it has a hard time competing at Tier 7.

this can work well if you play in a division with someone and lets you both move under cover of smoke... more room to maneuver and keep both ships hidden
Looks like this ship will be very painful for most to play, it's not a torp ship and it's not a gunship, the concealment is just a little better than most but not enough to make much difference, it has gimmick selfish smoke and Hydro so not much a team player ship. But if you're an extremely good player you can seal club in it until the enemy players figure out your weaknesses than it will be just another tier 7 usually playing in tier 9 games.................

It's perfectly fine as a gunship. Put BFT on it. Down to 4.5 seconds. 6 shells. If you can aim well...you punish the snot out of other DD.
If close enough...you're secondary will kick in 🤣
I'm playing mine very different from flamu. But still having a blast with it. 😁
Making me think way outside the box for playing it. Just came up with new ideas for torp trickery and useage. Have already applied to other DD and results are good !

He's rockin' that camo, though, and to be fair, he doesn't usually say much about countries and lines except where it's relevant to ship characteristics. You're not wrong though.

Lubos Soltes 4 or 8 torpedoes... 1 or 2 launchers... Try getting Harugumo 6 tubes launcher reloading in 96 seconds
