    I'm really pleased with this! It works like a charm th-cam.com/users/postUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ Takes less time than my old electric sharpener because it can take more off the knife faster, and then it smooths out nicely with the finer grit polisher. I don't know how long it will last before the grit wears away, but I wouldn't mind having to replace it every once in a while.

    Dear Wolfgang and Sebastian. I recently purchased a T-8 and I am thus a novice in mastering the machine. Thank you so very much for providing all of these sharpening videos. They are very helpful and well presented. Most especially, I wish to commend you both on your mastery of the English language. Yes, sometimes you hesitate slightly to find the correct word or expression but the meaning or presentation does come across. Thought process from Swedish or German into English dialoque is challenging. Thank you both again, and especially to the camera men throughout all of the episodes. Norm, from Canada🍁🐧🍁

      Thank you Norm for your very kind words! It means a lot, and you confirm that we are right in taking time making these videos. Hope you are happy with your T-8 and that you are getting satisfactory results although being novice. I'll pass your comment on to Sébastien and Wolfgang 😊 Stay sharp!

    Years ago, I purchased a Super Grind 2000, and used it extensively to sharpen all my chisels, plane irons, and knives, and then also sharpened my friends' tools and knives as well. You have an outstanding machine, and the "attachments" to go with it. I've not used it for several years (everything was sharpened), and now I come to have my memory and skills refreshed. Thank you for your videos and your machines for making the use of cutting tools useful again. Cheers, from Arizona, Robert.

    My god this is gold. Wolfgang is from what i see your best knife sharpener. The other guy from some of the Swedish speaking seems less experienced, doesn't quite get the same results as wolfgang.
    I just purchased the T4 and these videos are so helpful. You will keep selling products for many years, and these videos will keep costumers satisfied. What a smart support AND marketing decision making these videos was.
    What can i say about the sharpener, amazing results. Requires LESS skill and LESS time then my 4 stones. Overall its also LESS expensive.. Less is more should really be your slogan, alluding to the video 👍😁

      Hej Guly,
      thank you for the great feedback for our lives. We are happy that you find them helpful and like to work with your new T-4. 😀
      Wolfgang and Sebastien are both pros when it comes to sharpening knives and other tools. They split their time in the lives so you might here more from one of them 😉
      Stay sharp & safe!

    I got the T-8 for Christmas yesterday. Been practicing on some old chisels and have been very pleased with the outcomes. I'm going out to the shop to work on one of the older kitchen knives so the wife won't be mad if I make a mistake but the system is pretty fool proof if one follows the rules you just showed us. This is a fantastic product and I'll be ordering the cabinet soon.

    Wow I was really impressed with the design of the SVM140 knife jig for flexible knives. When he explains the small gap in the middle of the clamp. This is also how old saw vices were designed. When they have just one screw centered, it grips the saw much better, just goes to show these guys are tool masters.

    Many thanks to Sebastian and Wolfgang for an instructive and helpful video.
    After years of tracking I bought myself a T8 device and I am at the beginning of my journey as a "sharpener".
    I saw [between minute 23-28] that Wolfgang works only on the left side of the knife and then with the leather wheel on the right side. Aren't the 2 sides sharpened equally?

    Thank you for these videos. I am recently retired and wish to begin a sharpening business here in Toronto, Canada to keep me busy AND to make extra income besides my pensions. I have always appreciated blades of every description, especially knives and axes which I have very many. However, some of my friends are carpenters/building contractors and barbers/hairdressers, so I believe this could also be a business opportunity. After much research, I have determined that the Tormek machines are the best sharpening systems, of the best quality, durability and warranty in the market today. I was initially considering the T4 bushcraft model but now I am not sure whether to purchase the T8 instead. Your suggestions are much appreciated. Thank you!

    After watching @sedgetool I got interested in Tormek and your Sharpening Class series put me over the edge! I ordered a Tormek T-8 from US Fastener and Tool and couldn't be happier! The Tormek makes it easy and fast to keep my tools sharp. I should have bought one years ago. The expense is more than made up for in the accuracy and speed. Tormek is a money saver for me.

    I have learned a bit more from your video. There are already many helpful videos on TH-cam. What was best for me was seeing how to handle the tip. Raising the handle instead of rotating is important. It takes some practice to learn to do what Wolfgang is doing so clearly. My machine is tucked into a corner so I have always operated from the front with the wheel turning away from me. but now I am inspired to pull the machine forward and rotate it 180 degrees and work with the wheel coming toward me. Thank you.

    Great video. I ordered a T8 earlier, I wanted one for years and finally I am getting one. It will arrive in a few days.
    I looked for some TH-cam instruction and came on this video first, probably a very good thing, i already subscribed and will be watching more of your videos. Already I feel some confidence that I will be able to master this tool/machine with the help of the videos.
    I think that realising you don't put the knife right into the holder, and angle it slightly will give me a head start in my coming adventures with this machine.
    If only TH-cam had existed when I was a young man I would have achieved so much more.

    Interesting. I've always just used whet stones for my cooking/kitchen knives but a lady who lives here in Blackheath (NSW
    Australia) uses a Tormek to sharpen her violin making tools.

    • @TormekSharpening
      @TormekSharpening  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Allan! Whet stones work just fine, it's just a matter of time and effort, and how picky one is with the result. The Tormek watercooled sharpening system allows you to keep a perfectly even bevel with the same angle over the entire length of your tool, so there's less room for error and will be much faster than a whet stone. and you can sharpen most edge tools on a Tormek, not just knives. Watch our other sharpening classes, and you might just get convinced :D

    Congratulations for this video. I bought my T8 6 months ago. I left him alone after trying to grind like you suggest on the site instruction video, messed some very good knifes and stopped, to go to the internet. It is a jungle of Tormek "experts" ... Software to get the right angle ? I bought it some special stones i bought them. I was also helping a friend who bought one (we are Chefs) he do not speak english and, against the law, the Brazilian importer did not translate the manual to Brazilian Portuguese.... But this email to say thank you !!! Please reedit your first instructions video. The teaser make knife grinding look like a sooo easy to do job... It is, after a good adaption time. Stay sharp ! Is as very nice slogan !! God bless you all in this difficult times... We need to be humble and pray, each one the way he believes that work !!!

      @PhillipsTravels 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Using software to get the angle is beneficial when you are trying to hone your skills and achieve the sharpest edge possible, not really required for chef knives but when it comes to razors it makes a difference.

    My knives wasn't sharp enouhg and thougt I had to get a japanese stone. You showed us it's not necessary, you can do a real sharp knife with the ordinary SG-stone.
    The answere is, a have to practise and do a better job!
    It's also saved me a lot of money. Start practicing

    Very helpfull. I just wonder why the Sharpening and honing of the tip of the knife is done with different lifting techniques.
    First you recommended not to lift towards the chest while sharpening. But then that’s exactly what you do when honing the first big kitchen knife.
    I’m very happy with my T8 !!!

    • @TormekSharpening
      @TormekSharpening  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Happy to hear Max, and a good question! Since the honing wheel has a bit of "give" you'll be able to get to the edge without lifting the knife when honing the tip, plus you dont have to worry about creating a wider bevel on the tip when honing since it doesn't remove material the same way as sharpening. Hope my answer was clear enough :P
      Stay sharp!

    Thank you so much for the english lesson.
    If possible please address sharpening knives with a more aggressive recurve, do you do reprofile the corner off the stone more or sharpen half the knife on the edge of the stone?
    What is the fastest way to transition from a partially worn standard stone to a newer Japanese water stone? Is it doing the sharpie test again or can the water stone remove enough material to not make a difference?
    Do you need to clean the tray and change water between standard stone and Japanese stone?
    Best way to clamp full flat grind (pocket) knives so it's symmetrical.
    Sharpening specialty steels with super hard components like vanadium carbides (S90V, S110v)
    Keep up the fantastic work!

    • @TormekSharpening
      @TormekSharpening  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mat, Thank you. We will try to address it in a future live video. But we do as you say, reprofile the corner and sharpen the recurve on the corner of the stone.

    A reasonable video, however the adjustable knob on the knife holder, has a much more important task than what you say!! If you have a knife configuration that hits any part of the machine or assembly, you can raise the tool rest, and to maintain the correct angle you have to make the knife holder longer. This is the main reason for the adjustable knob on the end of the knife holder....🙈

    I have a T-7 system that I’ve been very frustrated with. You’ve already covered some of my concerns in this video and I look forward to trying again.
    Can you explain a bit more on the leather - how much pressure are you applying, and are you applying it directly on the bevel, or a bit behind the edge? A demonstration photo might be very helpful in a future video.
    Thank you for doing this! I’ve hoped you would produce videos like this for a long time.

    • @TormekSharpening
      @TormekSharpening  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Thank you for watching. Hope it helps you to find solutions. How much pressure is difficult to be precise but from my experience people i general put way to little pressure and time when honing. The leather is flexible so the risk of damaging the bevel is not big. Honing is key to the result your're looking for. Stay sharp!

    • @PhillipsTravels
      @PhillipsTravels 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You want a consistent pressure but not enough to make your finger nails go white at the tips. Keep a firm pressure with pink nailbeds and the pressure is good.

  • @garyhome7101
    @garyhome7101 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    These jigs are really a challenge to use, and require some practice in order to keep them steady on the tool rest so the bevel is consistent. Finding the right pressure to use is important as the knife edge can bite into the stone and be thrown back. It took me a few hours to actually become proficient at simply holding the jig with the knife in place and moving it smoothly across the stone. Then you must learn / practice a lifting technique to sharpen a rounded or curved tip.

    • @TormekSharpening
      @TormekSharpening  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are right, it might require some training to attain the best sharpening technique 😊 And that's one of the reasons we are arranging our live sharpening classes - for all our users to be able to learn how to stay sharp.
      I hope you learned something new from this sharpening class and that we'll see you in the upcoming ones! Stay Sharp!
