    Riding straight and true at 115. In Perth we are limited to 110 even on those tracks that run in the middle of the North and south freeways. The freeway max speed for motorists is 100 so you have the disconcerting experience of being overtaken by a train if you are driving on one of those freeways.. I lived in Melbourne as a kid and I can remember when Melbourne did not have the population that Perth currently does. Red rattlers, Harris blues and beyond, even at that time, the standard passenger set was eight carriages, except the Alamain line which was four. In Perth the standard passenger set is two and a few years ago they started running four. My Aunt used to live in Dandenong and her back yard ran right up to the main line. In those days we would hear the sweet horn and approaching hum of the L Class sparks hauling briquette trains to Spotswood? electric power station. They hauled dozens of those two axle goods wagons. Cheers.

      With Briquettes from Morwell, we burnt them at home for hot water 1971-72

    So much has changed on the line since then. Cranbourne duplication, LRXP Hallam Station and the near death of comengs on the line

    I’ve never seen a Melbourne train go that fast, however, that must be a speed record

      Suburban trains routinely run at 115km/h beyond Dandenong, Newport (towards Laverton) Sydenham and Broadmeadows off the top of my head!

      in the mernda, hurstbridge, belbrave, lilydale, alamein and glen waverley lines, they go faster as they are all served by x’trapolis, comengs have a max speed of 115 km/h (71 mph) the x’trapolis has a max speed 130 in service, 143 max speed, (81 mph in service, 89 max speed)

      Sorry that's not correct - while the X'traps do have a specified top speed of 130, the maximum allowed speed for electric trains anywhere on the network is 115. And it's even lower on most of those lines you have listed - for instance both the Mernda and Hurstbridge never exceed 80.

    Will forever miss those OG seat patterns and open gangways. The Stage 2's are the last remaining Comeng's with any resemblence to these, so it'll be sad when they go.

    Does anyone know the cost of running these trains 🚂 at speed even when they are empty A Budd railcard could handle this patronage

      @Taitset  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Speed isn't really a factor in the cost of running the service. This is one of the busiest lines in Melbourne, the video was filmed heading outbound on a weekend morning, and is not typical patronage.
