No, the police were not doing their best. Waiting for over an hour when kids are being slaughtered while cops with guns and gear are outside stopping parents from going in is not to be construed as "doing their best." This police response or lack of it is shameful and the cops calling the shots have to be prosecuted and fired.
Look, I'm as relieved as the next person that this man's daughter is still alive today, but his story is only going to add fuel to the fire the Uvalde PD is in. They know this guy so they let him go in to save HIS kid while his fellow officers are 1) refusing to go in themselves and 2) are literally restraining every parent there from doing what they allowed this man to do. The hypocrisy of "We're letting him go save his kid because he's one of ours and you're not" is not going unnoticed.
I saw one parent say the Marshalls restrained her and held her arms down when she tried getting passed them. Then they tried saying “we never detained anyone on scene - we arrived on scene and ensured a calm and safe environment” on the second day. Come to find out that wasn’t the case. Something is off about this. I’m not saying the shooter was handed a gun by the police, but I’m saying the police completely f-ed up, didn’t see warning signs posted online, didn’t run in to immediately disarm the threat as soon as they arrived on scene (apparently elementary school students could hold their own while the police coordinated because their team that was supposed to handle these emergencies couldn’t get together for some reason), and they let fellow first-responders in but not the ordinary parents with their children trapped inside with a shooter. I also read that cops were yelling out to students “is anyone in there” and “come outside the window” and one student said one of his classmates responded while the shooter was in the room with them and he shot her. I don’t know it’s a verified but based on what the scene was described as, I wouldn’t put it past them.
Sir, I'm so glad that you were able to go in and get YOUR CHILD. But, how dare you say that the 19 cowards sitting in the hallway outside a classroom of children actively being slaughtered did "the best they could!" No, no they did not.
To make matters worse, this guy is being hailed as a hero because people think he is the one who shot the shooter dead and because of that people are donating to his go fund me page. He had shirts being made of him and plans on using his go fund me money to travel. Shameful, that money should be given to families who actually lost their loved ones.
This interview is a really bad look for all the law enforcement who were at the school. They all signed up and took an oath to "preserve life" and one guy in body armor and armed with a weapon prevented them from doing that. This interview was horrendously insensitive and cruel to parents of all the children who were left to be slaughtered. This coming from a father who lost my best friend and first born son . The pain is indescribable.
Parents have stated that as they were prevented from rescuing their kids, those with police connections were allowed to go in and get their kids, unbelievable!!
Exactly. This man won't say anything bad about the cops due to his position. But I'm sure he would if it was his wife or daughter. I do feel for his wife though.
I don’t know how the police force of Uvalde could live there any longer! How could you walk past the person that held you back from saving your child while they stood there doing nothing in body armour!
@@Hew77 if that is my child in that classroom then YES let me be target practice for that kid . At least I know I will have done SOMETHING to help my child in need.
This father was off duty and because he had a badge he was able to go look for his wife and daughter but the other parents were told No they couldn't so this tells me we all need badges to go help our loved ones.
As a LEO or first responder it is your duty & legal responsibility to help in a crisis like that, no matter if you’re on or off the clock. Had he turned a blind eye & refuse to give aid he could’ve been prosecuted for that. So, yes, he was not only allowed to go in, but legally obligated to do so. I do agree it was messed up that the other parents weren’t allowed to go in while the cops did nothing. Had the cops properly responded, there would not have been a need for the parents to go in & further complicate things. As a parent there’s no way I’m not getting pass that police barricade though, so I get their frustrations.
This is America you must have a badge or be given government permission, ie permit , license or other such paperwork must be applied for before you as a slave can protect your family.
Exactly, someone pulled him into a room afterwards for a private meeting possibly the chief an told him to not talk down about the other officers and the chief's incompetence.
The man is being "kind" to the other officers because he has to live in that town for the rest of his life. He won't criticize fellow officers on national TV.
I was thinking the same thing!! Lots of Dads were pushed back and out of the way. But this guy because he was a first responder and as he stated himself had no gear for protection just like the other dads but still was allowed to enter the school! You’re absolutely right disturbing admittance of privilege.
@@glorious_conqueror2021: Ironic; Even amid relief and success, nepotism is, really, another chip for the anti-cop movements to shape in the cookie of law enforcement's dearth of doughty.
You know who else didn't have any gear?? Those kids and teachers being shot while you and your buddies saved your own!!! You had a shotgun with ammo, they had nothing but you...and we know how that turned out.
His “bravery” only makes me more furious. Why was he allowed to go in and rescue his daughter while other parents were not? Oh, because he’s a cop and they were looking out for each other. Then he says he passed the other cops DOING NOTHING as kids are shot and bleeding to death in the classes with the gunman. The poor kids in the class who are alive and uninjured desperately calling 911 for help. But he thinks his fellow officers did all that they could? This is horrific and his words only underscore how profoundly those children were failed.
Yeah I'm upset, he was able to go in because he had connection yet these other families were told to stand back. If it was his wife in that room and his kid would he still be saying that those cops did all they could.
He ran to the building where his child was ostensibly as safe as the kids who had gotten out of the building where the shooter was holed up, and he says “it wouldn’t have been a good idea for me to confront the shooter without my gear, the other guys had their gear…” so he’s just about as brave as the jerks who were standing around waiting. I guess no cops’ children were in that classroom and that’s why no one cared to go in there.
It breaks my heat and at the same time it makes me feel I did the right thing. I m a teacher and I sacrificed my career for a bit to protect a kids life last December in south Tx. My school didn’t see that and through my under the bus. This is a catalyst moment I’m still haunted by their cruelty :(
Obviously Jacob would not attack his fellow police being a policeman himself. However, the reality is that he was totally concerned about his own child and once the child was rescued, he seemed to want to move out! How sad that people cannot identify with others beside their own children and realize that we need to be committed to the safety of all children. As a 35 year elementary teacher(retired), let me tell you that each child is perfect and we need to be willing to give our lives to protect and defend all of our children, not only our own children!
As a 35 year elementary teacher (retired), I'm sure you requested the children listen carefully to what you were saying. How ironic that you weren't able to do the same with this article.
.. Only the true heroes were held back. The ones willing to confront the threat. Not go around and away under the shade of a tree drinking water. Those kids through the window saves themselves. Those murdered teachers have more honor and bravery than any official I saw at the school. Cops even got the call from dispatcher while 1st child called and nothing happened after an hour. This guy right here should never have taken the interview. It means he wouldn't have tried just like the others with no personal assets inside.
His wife’s on their local channel talking about how we need to stop “blaming” people… which is super convenient when your husband is one of the many “good guys with a gun” that took care of his own family and didn’t even consider engaging the shooter. Just one more cop worrying about his personal safety while school teachers are throwing themselves in front of bullets to save children. This story is framing him as a hero, and he literally did the bare minimum.
He did what he had to do it's easy to Monday QB but what would you have done if it was your daughter? The man went into a shooting area with no body armor only a shot gun and cleared rooms and helped get his kid and other kids out what your problem with that? The Uvalde Police were at the scene and and had there gear and weapons they should have been the ones to breach the door not a off duty Border Patrol in shorts and flip flops
Yeah she should tell that to the four kids that are left orphaned of her deceased colleague, the teacher who died saving her scholar and her husband who later died from a broken heart.
Moral of the story. He managed to go in and safe his wife and daughter because of his connections with the law enforcement. Disgusting. ETA: Other parents couldn’t get in. One parent was tased trying to safe a child just like him. If the officers were too scared to go in and let parents like him go in then why not let other parents save their kids?yes it’s disgusting.
Exactly there’s a lot of people on tik tok making videos saying this guy went in and got his wife and daughter and then went back in “busted the door down” and killed the shooter. People should be more respectful of the victim’s families and not set anyone up as a “hero” this guy was allowed to do what other parents were begging to do and they got put in handcuffs while he was allowed to just run in
i wouldn’t say “disgusting”. I would be wrong to say i wouldn’t use my connections to get to my kids too. What is disgusting is how the commanding officer labeled the shooter “no longer a threat”.
everyone on the scene in the first 6 minutes needs to be fired.. because those are the people that could have intervened. He should have said everyone there dropped the ball.. and dealt with the repercussions
If I knew kids children were being slaughtered I would be in there. These adults that hesitated have no courage or compassion. These were babies. Multiple children.

All the kids, the survivors and regular students. 2.)who ever left that door open ,if they're alive. 3.) Who ever the SRO is. 4.) The 2 men who were shot at near the funeral home. 5.)all 19 first responders
So he confirms what many parents were saying the Cops went in to get their own kids but left the others to the ultimate fate with the shooter. Meanwhile the parents outside wanted to go in with no guns, no bulletproof vests, and no training to at least try and get their own kids but but were restrained by cops while 19 cops sat there for over an hour outside the classroom and did nothing.
@@Kevin-sm8pn how exactly does that change the situation that went down with the cops holding back parents and letting their friends go in without any gear to search for their kids?? Obviously not every kid was going to survive, but casualties would’ve been much less if law enforcement would’ve engaged the shooter, instead of waiting almost an hour outside the school, wasting their time preventing parents from doing what the cops should’ve been doing in the first place.
@@LBM25k lmao. Texas is predominately full of republicans. Even the majority of the officers waiting outside like idiots were republicans, you’re telling me that when it comes to kids being in danger, republicans all of a sudden have the need to follow directions?? (A lot of bark but no bite). All these powerful machine guns you people are wasting your time protecting and making easier to obtain, are literally getting your kids killed. And it’s bad when officers would rather wait outside during a mass shooting, than actually step inside and shoot back. Overall an embarrassing moment for trump supporters and republicans.
This interview just goes to show that the reports about cops going in to rescue their own kids was true. And this guy still acts like "well i didn't have my gear so i didn't go to where the shooter was" but if his kid was in that room, i doubt he would care about any gear
A man saving his family isn’t heroic, it’s their purpose. And yet another example of “professional courtesy” that isn’t extended to the general public.
the posterior covering that tried to take place afterwards tells you much of what you need to know about the integrity of the men and women tasked to serve this community
He says he doesn’t go in because he didn’t have his gear and “that wouldn’t have a good decision for me”. That’s how this happened - everyone on scene thought it was someone’s else’s responsibility to go in and not their responsibility. Everyone thought about their own well-being and assumed others with better gear would go in
Well he did make sure to clear a ton of rooms even if it's not his family. He could of just kept moving if he did not see his family and rescued them faster. He only had a Shotgun and no body armor. It really would have been a bad decision for him to go blazing at the shooter. And as he said during the time he clearing kids out even if his focus was his own family, he heard no shots during this time, so he would not have had the extra motivation to hunt the shooter.
I don't understand why they are interviewing this man. I would like to see an interview with the team that finally defied orders and when in and took out the shooter.
From what I keep hearing is that law enforcement was allowed to go in and get their families, if you weren't connected you were prevented, tazed and put in handcuffs, am I wrong?
I mean in an active crime scene you don't want a bunch of the public running in. I know they should've breached the door but and killed the shooter faster though.

He saying that because he was able to go in and find his kid, if every parent was able to do that then I would agree, but it seems like, if they didn't know you then you can't go rescue your child, this is wicked.... PERIOD
i think people are confusing this guy and not actually hearing the interview. they just read the headline "off duty cop rushed in" and think this is the guy that shot the shooter while in reality he never was near the shooter. he just went in to get his daughter and leave

Agreed. Uvalde PD are a disgrace. And I'm also sick of the media making BP Agent Alvarado out to be some kind of a hero. It's self-evident from what he says here he was not any better than the rest of these cowards. Obviously the cops aren't going to protect teachers and kids. He says like 4 times in the interview "I DIDN'T GO IN." Do people even listen? HE DIDN'T GO IN. Other officers helped his wife and other students get out. He says his daughter was in a whole different wing of the school. They couldn't get into the rooms the shooter locked.

I wish she would have asked if his child was in that room if he would have gone in. I can't believe he would go on TV and say that he was permitted to save his kid while others were not.
As a father and a husband, this person did exactly what was necessary. As a law enforcement officer, this is not a good look for him or the department. He should have just lay low and away from the media, be thankful that he still has his loved ones.
Is that so the chiefs and governor can spin their narrative? Having trouble understanding why being honest about what he did on that day, is a bad thing.
You forgot a very important thing in your "praise" - he could only do so because he was a off-duty cop and the others knew so they let him pass while holding back the other parents from doing the same. Not so heroic after all, right?! Worst part, he did not even attempt to save other children/teachers. This is not what a hero but an egomaniac does. No need for people like him in the force!
I disagree with everything 100% . "not a good look for him or the department" is a vast understatement. Did he go in as a parent or LE? He was not just a husband and a father or he would have been standing outside on the sidewalk watching. Can't have the cake and eat it too. The police stopped other fathers and mothers from going in at all. Yeah, I know can't have civilians in there right? An hour later would you still be waiting for someone to stop the shots?
He is very effected by it, every parent is affected by this tragic event. He is double because both his wife and daughter was there. But doubly blessed that they were brought to safety.
I would have without a doubt gave my life if need be to save my family and others. And regardless what the officer says the police DID NOT do what they could to save the teachers and children.
Must be nice to be able to go in and find ur kid and wife to make sure they r safe. Never count on others to protect ur family the way you would protect ur family. Smh he should feel ashamed of him self.
