From the trailer it looks as if for Part 2 they are going WOKE. I know the VERY well and Paul Atreides says some unusual things in the trailer that aren't in the book, eg. "Teach me how I can be equal to you" (paraphrased)
7:10 This might be showing the Harkonnens "finishing off" the Atreides resistance a few days after the invasion. I remember a description in the book of how Leto's loyalists holed up in caves in the Shield Wall, which the Harkonnens then blasted shut, sealing the fighters in. Also, I notice that this might NOT be the Shield Wall, since it appears to be open land to the left edge of the image. This might be a massif in sietch country, possibly the attack that kills Paul's first son. (Apologies if you remember these elements later in the podcast)
Chani's scepticism regarding the prophesy is nice way of one externalising Pauls own thoughts from the book and also how, in the books, Chani isn't a blind follower and always came across as very practical in her outlook on both Paul and her relationship. Also Dune's world is entirely class based, the Jyhad is that system being mixed up and the houses being dismantled and reformed anew.
I actually like that Chani is distrustful of Paul and the prophecy. She is the daughter of Liet, the scientist. She was probably raised to believe all these signs and superstitions are tools of the powerful
I absolutely love how much it seems the director involved chani and Irulan’s characters into the story without disturbing the message of Dune or changing the theme. I think it gives them a lot more depth and interest in the story. This is how movies should be adapted.
8:34 As a comment in times when infant death rate were high it's not uncommon for the parents to keep using the same names until one child survives to adulthood. You can see this in the XVIII century with people like Napoleon's brothers or Peter the Great sons for example , so maybe Herbert was aware of these things and kept the name
I actually thought about this as I heard it. My girlfriend in college took a History of Death in America class, and she learned about this fact. Literally keep trying until one sticks, lol. Pretty interesting.
When you mentioned about the studios and wanting to give their input on Paul, I'd like to think that Dennis is not that type of director to change his vision, especially with this story. I'd also like to believe that the studio execs trust him with telling a story that will be both great and also earn the money they are expecting in a project like this. But it's just my hope that things are that way. And thank you for these videos, Quinn was a superb guest and added a lot of details and interesting points from the book.
I heard they didn’t even know he was making multiple parts until the premiere. It’s like he kept it secret knowing the studio wouldn’t have faith in a bigger project at the time, this is Warner Bros
Baby Leto's going to be in the movie. It looks like Denis has changed Chani's character a bit by making her doubt the prophecy. So it could be the events around baby Leto will be a factor for Chani to go along with things to come.
Do you think Denis will depict both baby Leto’s or just make Chani pregnant with twins in part II and change their / her role in Dune part III to help make it a simpler story and more filmable? Because Paul’s lineage has enough material to make it a whole story in itself
@Questionthis1 Twins are book 2 material, and Denis will be ostracized by the fandom if such a change is done 😆 Also, he'll want Zendaya in the 3rd film, the adaption of the Dune Messiah. I'm most interested in that adaptation since it's such an internal book.
ppl keep saying this trailer spoils everything, but the trailer only shows the battle, the big battleground with no-name characters, it shows next to nothing about the ACTUAL final climax with all the main characters and feyd-rautha/paul fight and wrapping up all the loose ends. Also it didn't show much of the actual story beats from the book even if the visuals imply its gonna be there. THis wasn't an MCU trailer, it keeps dialogue more vague which i like instead of explaining the story beats. THey have to convince non-book fans to watch this movie, thats hard, its not an IP and its big budget so obviously they want to promote the giant battles.
7:26 i'm pretty sure this is gonna be just the Harkonnens bombing a Fremen sietch or that one part of Dune where a bunch of Atreides soldiers are trapped by old-fashioned artillery in the mountains. It doesn't look like a shield wall.
@@brooksklepper2853oh yeah if its a raid this is the perfect way to show that death in a movie way. Though i have no idea if they’re showing the pregnancy at all, or how they use the time jump
As for the shot of waves, I wonder if this is maybe a scene at the end of the movie, where Paul takes Chani to Caladan to see the ocean. There's that moment from one of the earlier trailers when Chani is incredulous about the idea of water so deep you can swim in it. The book doesn't have a denouement; it just ends. I think Villeneuve will give the audience some falling action after what appears to be an incredible spectacle of a climax and I can see Paul returning to Caladan with Chani after everything he's been through. I can imagine seeing an ocean for the first time being sort of frightening for Chani and I can also imagine Paul returning to the Atreides tombs or his bedroom and realizing that Arrakis is his home now.
Would it be possible if the scene where Paul meet a bunch of sayyadinas was only an interpretation of preciensce after he drank the water of life? Because he's the kwisat haderach he's able to access the memories of every lineage of ancestor male and female, perhaps what is shown in the scene is exactly that.
I know there are spoilers but i can't stop myself and why should I, i already watched all your guys videos about the subject and can't wait for this movie to come out.
Does anyone else thinks that the final shot in the trailer, with paul walking in the sand and the "You are not prepared for what's to come" is a shot from dune messiah, not dune 2? They already pulled one like that in the first movie
Honestly I’m already really excited for Dune Messiah because I think Florence Pugh can 110% capture the complexity of conflict of Irulan, who both admires Paul and is tortured and shunned by him, and often ridiculed by all those around her, but still very loyal to the children and protecting them etc etc. lots of inner conflict which ive absolutely seen Florence nail b4 in A Good Person and Little Women,
I hope that Thufir is in Part Two, primarily for the sake of those who don't know the book. The word Mentat is never even uttered in Part One, let alone any explanation of what they are. Granted, there's just enough visual information there to imply mental computation (the eyes rolling back), however, it's not quite enough. The Mentat's are their own faction that play a role in the Imperium and I think those unfamiliar with the books might need to know that. However, to me, the primary narrative impetus for the inclusion and/or understanding of Mentats would be how it plays into Paul's Mentat training and how that computationally trained mind factors into Paul's prescient abilities. Paul's powers aren't magic (though the pseudo-scientific dimensions to them are pretty logically tenuous), they're the product of the Bene Gesserit breeding program, Jessica's training, Gurney Halleck's training, and Thufir Hawat's subtle Mentat training. Anyway, I think that keeping Thufir as a supporting character in Part Two could provide an opportunity for an explanation about the function of Mentats. Imagine a conversation between the Baron and Thufir in which the Baron is demanding things of him that go against his Mentat training, prompting Thufir to rebuke the Baron with a bit of quick, snide exposition.
Paul and Leto share much in common with Leluch Lamperouge or Arkady from the Mars trilogy... We just need to avoid the Butlerian jihad in our timeline 😂
I was rewatching dune with my fiancée and noticed they never explain where the spice comes from in the first film. I don’t think this is really a big spoiler and from what I remember about the book it’s not really a big mystery but it’s been a few years. I refrained from telling her since she hasn’t read the book. Do you and Quinn think it’s something Denis is setting up to be a reveal in part 2?
It’s been a few years since I last read the books, but I don’t think you get a full explanation of where the spice comes from until Children of Dune. You get bits and pieces earlier on, but not the full picture.
@@Keen314Where the spice comes from is a central part of the end of the first book and how Paul becomes Emperor. He has the power to destroy the flow of spice and thus forces the support of the spacing guild and (I believe) the other great houses.

It's interesting you mention Feyd's outfit while you are speculating as to the nature of the 'court' scene. I think the chain as a slavery motif is a valid interpretation, but when I saw it, the first thing that came to mind when I saw the cut of the doublet and the neck piece is he looks like a Tudor courtier wearing a chain of office. I think you're bang on the money of what that scene is, and I think that his outfit may be designed to be evocative of this.
I am kind of perplexed that Quinn did not remember that Feyd-Rautha was totally described as having black hair in the book. I was hoping that Dennis would keep this. Unfortunately, he must wanted the Harkonnnen's to look alien?
I actually think that was a smart directorial and visionary choice on Denis' part! Aren't the Harkonnens described as un-human-like in not only the way they act but look? Yes Feyd-Rautha, is described to have hair and to be good looking and charming. But in the end he is a villain and a psychotic murderer at that, removing any human characteristics leads people to feel less sympathy and more fear.
53:15 Thufir’s role is more than just council though, he’s behind much of the moves that the Harkonen make in part 2 especially making Beast Raban the governor of arrakis and the scene with the slave master and Feyd’s birthday fight that are both shown in the trailer. I suppose you could just give those to the Baron but it would make all his oversights about the importance of the Fremen and his failings in part 2 much harder to justify.
I think the movie will cover what happens to Paul's family while he is preparing for the big battle. We only find out the results of this when the Emperor and Baron are in the same room on the surface of Arrakis. Lots of small interactions in the books that can be greatly expanded. I really like the small changes Denis did in the movie compared to the book, so I do feel confident that this next movie will be a masterpiece.
It would be really fun if Shift collabed with Quinn to continue the bad writing comparison between GRRM and Herbert. That series would really benefit from having someone who knows both series to bounce off of imo.
On Jessica's mother, Paul gets dosed with Spice early on, and immediately knows who Jessica's father is, a man he had yet to meet. He had an up close and personal session with Helen, so why wouldn't he recognize his own grandmother at that point? And what would it add to the story, anyway?
This trailer was incredible! I don't know how the books go - but... isn't this suppose to be a trilogy? DV said it's going to be awhile before we get a third...
... correct me if I'm wrong, but the initial child of Paul/Chani never gets to be a ruler, therefore doesn't become "Leto II"? I just thought it made sense, but the more I see it being questioned and considered confusing, the more I question it lol
25:45 How could anyone whos read the books even make this argument with you? Paul says multiple times that he sees events play out millions of different ways, especially at "nexus points"
Wasn’t Mohiam mentioned as part of Alia’s or the twins’ hereditary memory in the books? That would hint pretty hard that she was related. Unless I’m just having a spice dream induced hallucination about that recollection. Always a high probability.
fingers crossed that they didn't make Chani change too much like a marvel female hero that don't need no man. she had her strength in the book, but she believed in paul and the prophesy and even fought other fremen to defend his honor also, I wonder if the ornithopter assault is the attack on Sietch Tabr where their baby is killed
@FeviviViper I just watched the movie this Sunday. Overall, I loved the movie, But I wish Alia would have been born, And I understand Chani's frustration, but in the book it felt like Chani was convinced by Jessica that they are the loved ones even if politics says they cannot be the wife.
It’s unfortunate that there is no mention of the 6 prequels to Dune written by the Authors Son … they were awesome IMO and fill in how the Empite came about, the Machine war, development of and how the spice became central to interstellar travel….and how/why the Atreidies and Harkonnens became bitter enemies….& the story of Vorian Atreidies - Son of Agamemnon..!!
1st one felt like it was rushed. Book content skipped from many pages to paged but in the ditectors slow moving style. This one looks like he got rid of those empty feeling spaces with meat. Theres more intergie
I think it's a nod that İslam, maybe secondarily Buddhism is the only way that humans would improve without losing the humanity when they expand into universe,
I think that is more what its TRYING to say. I think that accidentally, Its actually more that mankind cannot save itself, and needs divine forgiveness, atonement and grace, because we will end up failing to live up to even our own moral standards, let alone divine standards. It's accidentally Christian.
I don’t think they are really showing a lot tbh as someone who hasn’t read the books I still don’t know too much about what’s going to happen in this movie even with the 3 trailers out

Just need DanikaXIX to have the top 3 Dune experts. Great stream yall.
I'm so hyped!
Lets gooo quinn again!
welcome back (kotter)
Always a high probability.
fingers crossed that they didn't make Chani change too much like a marvel female hero that don't need no man. she had her strength in the book, but she believed in paul and the prophesy and even fought other fremen to defend his honor
also, I wonder if the ornithopter assault is the attack on Sietch Tabr where their baby is killed
This version of chani works and isn’t dumbed down
@FeviviViper I just watched the movie this Sunday. Overall, I loved the movie, But I wish Alia would have been born, And I understand Chani's frustration, but in the book it felt like Chani was convinced by Jessica that they are the loved ones even if politics says they cannot be the wife.
Beautiful Fade.
Because the consensus is those books are garbage and are not canon to the real story
1st one felt like it was rushed. Book content skipped from many pages to paged but in the ditectors slow moving style.
This one looks like he got rid of those empty feeling spaces with meat. Theres more intergie
Pure genius... Allah being translated via her Mother's voice. "She wants to know why you do not believe in you?"
Hold on. The jihad would happen if paul lived or died helped it or not. He was the voice from the outer worlds and he was the quizat haderak
I think a new extended trailer #3 is out right now on Legendary pictures channel, Im not sure, theres a lot of new images in it
I don’t need presence to tell me this is going to be a great livestream!
AFTER REWATCHING aLT sHIFT x'S DUNE OVERVIEW VIDEO I WAS FORCED TO SUB !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Quinn The Fedaykin and The X-Man doing two hours on the new Dune trailer is the best of all possible futures. Golden like a shower…I mean, path.
Oh no, I missed it, bummer :(
Why didn't the bold boy put poison on both blades? He's not from Sicily!
I'm ready for all yall's thoughts
When’s the Jon snow vid coming
I think it's a nod that İslam, maybe secondarily Buddhism is the only way that humans would improve without losing the humanity when they expand into universe,
I think that is more what its TRYING to say.
I think that accidentally, Its actually more that mankind cannot save itself, and needs divine forgiveness, atonement and grace, because we will end up failing to live up to even our own moral standards, let alone divine standards. It's accidentally Christian.
@@0hn0haha i think we dont need that kinda gymnastics.
I don’t think they are really showing a lot tbh as someone who hasn’t read the books I still don’t know too much about what’s going to happen in this movie even with the 3 trailers out
Stupid question but did any of these big shifts feel maybe like alternate prescience visions? Ehh I might be in bargaining phase
This one needed a little heavier moderation Shifty
using sandworms to attack sardaukar is just cheating
anyone else hear a fart at 59:30?
When is HOTD trailer breakdown bro? I haven’t watched other breakdowns cause i’m waiting for yours
hes already done one
he did it a while back
It's already up on here live, he did it with Glidus 10 days ago.
