I bought a 742/308 cal in 1973 while I was in the service, The metal that the bolt slid on during the reloading after the shot would hang up and not operate properly, it would jam up, It was like worn and nicked up. Remington had a recall on that model, Went back to bolt 700 and own 3 of them, great gun.
Thank you VERY MUCH for this video. I bought my dad an operating lever to replace his broken one. Thought I was in over my head until finding your easy to follow video. It was a lifesaver!
Thanks for the video. I have a 742 BDL in 30-06 made in the early 70’s. I have had mine apart, but not to re-blue, to clean thoroughly. Mine is in good shape regarding the bluing. But like how you take us through the steps of disassembly and reassembly. I did a review video on my 742 BDL a year ago. It has been an awesome rifle and I have taken several deer with it. Again thanks for sharing.
do you know where i can buy that plastic dust cover? My dad gave me his and it was missing. I would love to get it back together fully and cleaned up so i can use it.
I’m needing one also. Did you have any trouble getting your cover. Did you order yours from a certain person or company? I have never used EBay so not sure how it works.
@@rebelpride6892 I cannot remember the supplier on Ebay, but there were several suppliers and it was like 10 or 15 bucks. Just search Remington 742 dust cover on Ebay.

Good job. I appreciate the video. It seems to me that eventually, all the dust covers magically disappear... I'm gonna have to change mine also.
Very good breakdown video. Well thought out .

Great job but what a pain in the ass
I would love to see how to replace just the dust cover. Mine is jammed up and won't move
You have to take the barrel off and get the bolt out. The dust cover goes in with the bolt.
@ThrowingCopperCRA-2022 great. I was hoping it would be easier hahaha. Thank you
Good work Sir! How did you do the blueing? Hot or cold because it sure turned out nice!
Thank you. I do slow rust bluing.
