A Big shout out to CBS Automotive for the Car Meet in Cambridge & Ben from Smart Detailing for a second interview giving his updated view on electric cars.
At the start of 2021 I created Chargeheads to essentially get more car enthusiasts into electric cars. An Electric Petrolhead if you like....A CHARGEHEAD!!!!
To start I decided to do an EV conversion and went on an amazing journey visiting many of the big companies in this field.
I selected the not so well known TVR Tasmin 350i, AKA the Wedge (#tvrwedgee ) to electrify after careful consideration of other cars. As I already had a TVR Griffith which I enjoyed driving and with my passion for raw, powerful, tail happy cars with no driver aids TVR was the obvious choice when selecting a car to electrify.
The 2nd build is the #SpecialTrikee project a 1970's BSA Aerial 3 Tricycle Scooter that me and my mate Vinny have turned into a e-Trike. I use this for local trips and it's a load of fun. Mrs Chargehead calls it my special scooter.....that originally had a 50cc two stroke motor and has a 250 watt motor in it, of course.
The Latest project is Rustee #RusteeTesla the Tesla build to make a Model 3 Long Range....well.....better! Better in looks, handling and performance while keeping her a monster mile daily and the efficiency intact. Focusing again on modifying with used parts to keep it green, where possible.
I hope to not only entertain with ChargeheadsUK Channel and the #TVRWedgee, #SpecialTrikee and #RusteeTesla builds, but also to inspire watchers to create their own greener transport.
With the help of leaders in their field like Ralph Hosier (Engineer, designer, builder of special vehicles, teacher, writer, TV presenter and trouble maker.
Ralph teaches Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Training (IMI Techsafe), builds some amazing one off projects and most of all is a top bloke!
He's the engineer behind #TVRWedgee the Electric TVR.
So let the fun begin......safely in a controlled environment using the right EV safety equipment! ;0)
Did I mention myself and Ralph have also done an EV Conversion safety video as well.
Welcome to the Modified EV revolution!

Good too see Ben is open minded enough to recognise the virtues of EVs, even if its only the economics. I still think EVs are an amazing drive, and my stereo pumps out the beats.😅
Thx for the video.
@@proximaone1350 it just goes to show; bums on seats and a break down of costs is enough to see the benefits. Im sure the EV6 is nice to drive too, not driven one myself yet.
I love the ICE especially older cars but times are changing, great as you say an EV for work then a Classic Car for the weekend
Bingo! Although electric classic cars has some amazing old school elktromods!
That make one who has the funds wonder if you could convert and daily drive a fun older car especially inside a city or if you live near a larger city.
@michealridgway7607 as you can see i tend to focus on the older, more retro stuff. Still love those cars
@4literv6 well thats the plan with my electric TVR, although in this current weather my 40kwh battery will need more of a charge than my Tesla on my round trip to Southampton. Watch this space / youtube
"it's only getting parked..."
BEST PRO EV ARGUMENT EVER! Good job! I would be 100% behind the idea of 95% of journeys being electric and leave petrol heads to drive around burning money. The pollution level would be so tiny and fractional it wouldn't be worth the energy (pun) to try and stop them.
Good to see an open minded petrol head. If you’re a true car fan you will appreciate any drivetrain.
I love the sound of the LFA V10 and Porsche flat 6’s but I drive an EV. My wife has an SLK for weekends and the summer months too.
@@marvinsamuels1237 exactly 💯
Wow 😮
@@shamlordloxley8959 what a turnaround 😉
Best wishes for the new year, thank you for filming the show!
@@jbmaru its a great meet, i'll plan to bring the Tesla powered TVR this year when its legal 😉⚡️💯
Amazing video, thank you for coming and see you soon :)
@@CBSAutomotive can't wait to visit when its warmer 🥶😉
Great video :)
@@CambridgeCarAudio thanks guys! 💯
Am so glad of your channel an open minded car fan like myself ,I don't own an ev but my next car daily will be a Tesla but ill still keep a hobby car or too . I just live cars
@@robertknowles3365 live and breathe my friend 💯
Great video, gutted I couldn't make it
@@adrianthomas145 we missed you dude. There is a meet im going to on Sunday, a great mix of cars. A modified Y sometimes shows up too. Wilstead Garden centre on the Chargeheads FB page 😉
Mine is basically a van.E Berlingo. The biggest safety feature in my opinion is how quick it is to get out of trouble. The motor is instant.Combustion engines especially for town use are out.The noise the pollution for starters.
@@foppo100 funny you say that, i cant put my Tesla in chill, i want to have the get out of a situation power without delay 😉
You either need to change your camera frame rate to match your video editing software or change the software to match the footage frame rate. It’ll get rid of the stuttering when you are panning and moving.
@@SirHackaL0t. thanks, I will look into that. Im no camera expert
There is always one.
@ The main thing is to make sure that the framerate of the camera is the same as the framerate that your editing software is expecting. Then it doesn’t have to drop/ add frames to match up.
@@foppo100 You clearly don’t care that the video stutters when panning sideways yet manage to criticise others. Got it. 👍
ben needs a model 3 p . he could drive all week and the weekend
@@LaJuanHughes lol exactly. There is a Tesla on hydraulics in thr US. I should have let him know. He's actually a massive old skool Ford fan.
Not the same man. Plaids are fast and all and impressive, but there is no emotion and they are pretty noisy and have pretty rough suspension.
Even got a glimpse of the astra ! Decent coffee aswell which is always a bonus
I got a cupra Born last month, its has the equivalent performance (if not more, even though it ststes less hp) of my 19 leon Cupra and 15 GTC vxr, they cost 22p per mile to run, the Cuper Born costs me under 2.5pence a mile to run. Even if i have to charge out the house, ill use a Tesla station, and im only looking at 8p a mile.
So even if i didnt have home charger, and need to tesla charge, your paying less than pryus/ioniq hybrid eco car money (10p/mi) and getting leon cupra/vxr perfomance and fun
Dont use any other charge than the tesla ones. As all the others are silly rob you money.
If that's all you have near and you cant charge form home, sadly EVs will cost you as much and more than an average ive car would cost. So it's not even worth looking. Get a big 3 liter turbo diesel in protest, and have fun With it, before they are banned. Roll some fat coal
@@StephenButlerOne great point about the Tesla chargers, make so much sense. I drive to Southampton and now its cold i have to charge at work 35p per KWh ac 7k so not bad. Although got a free charge at thr hotel i was staying at last night, needed as I have a 4hr journey home tomorrow. 🙄
@chargeheadsuk good luck stick to the Tesla stations, they'll all work, works at the speed they are ment to, and save you around 50%. For some reason there are a couple of really cheap Tesla stations around Oxford. If that helps.i think one of them goes doe to 28p kW iirc. Off peak of course but on peak it's still open of the cheapest in the contrary.
@StephenButlerOne Wow! 28p thats cheaper than Ive seen. Thanks for highlighting 💯
Great for daily when you aren't going long range with lot of load.
But for actual driving experience? To me all the EVs are same some are just faster. Very appliance feeling. Plaids are cool but also very boring. Also I find many EVs louder than e.g. a higher end Lexus ICE car, they still don't have the quality/build of good ICE yet.
EV is very sanitized, daily yeah, fun, straight lines only really, so heavy.
@@N4CR thats why ive built an electric Tesla Powered TVR with the help of RHEL Engineering 😉
My ev is an ebike, I would like a nice motorbike though!
@@Markcain268 what sort of ebike?🤔
@chargeheadsuk a 2kw ebike!
@Markcain268 wowzers! Have you seen my "250 watt" etrike?
@@chargeheadsuk it's fun, but I'm getting bored with it now and want a proper motorbike
@Markcain268 which ones are you looking at?
THAY ALL SAY NEVA
@@malcolmmiddleton5883 🤣🤣🤣
What utter rubbish. There's two types of public charging in the UK.
Expensive 55p per kWh 22kw that would take 5 hours to charge an average BEV or
Ridiculously expensive 79-85p per kWh that would cost as much if not more than an average petrol car.
You won't have it will you? One day you will see because there is nowhere else to go.Above anything else childrens longs do matter sunshine.
There are slightly better deals out there, but you're right that public charging isn't much cheaper than petrol. But if you can charge at home or work it's dead cheap.
A quick look does show 90 Tesla Supercharging Stations in England, with 800 chargers.
@@davebanks4457 I charge my PHEV for 7p per kWh at night. I don't need to worry about charging stations. For 45-50% of the driving population BEVs are not an option. More if you take into account the ones who can't afford one and the ones that don't want one.
Maybe 75% will not buy a BEV.
@@Un-Apologetic you are correct that its not that simple if you have no driveway. However there are options that are cheaper out there, like Tesla (Off peak 38p for rapid). Also lots of money and effort is being focused on more solutions like cheaper lamp post charging, cable gulleys for terraced housing. Flats is thr trickey one. What do you drive @Un-Apologetic?
