Run EmuELEC from USB / Onboard eMMC [EEMC203]

- MicroSD unreliable? Isn't loading EmuELEC? Here are a couple of solutions.
1. Using USB ports to load up EmuELEC
2. Install EmuELEC to your internal storage space.

This was tested on the HK1BOX (MUB), but should work with most EmuELEC compatible boxes.

yep and OTA update (update over wifi/lan within emulec) brick the device.. no user data found, corrupted emustation config...
@@antoinejona not exactly a brick, but close. More like "they're messing it up!". I think almost every update since 3.9 needs to reflash, it's becoming a bit of a joke and I'm surprised it's not been forked and updated by another team.
@@TeamPandory completely agree... emuelec 4.5 is out, maybe i'll give a try with this version? need to read the changelog first..

The hk1box is around 40$. No need for a microsd for the games, don't need to buy a case or power supply separately- a pi4 killer right here.

A few days ago I decided to do this experiment. I bought a TV box with S905X3 and 128 GB of RAM. I'm waiting for it to arrive from China. I had already done some research and put together some instructions on how to do it. But now it's much better, because I found this video, which is excellent and will make things easier. Thanks for the tutorial!
It's a pleasure. There have been reports of a few Android boxes not being compatible, but they are usually because the buyer bought a Rockchip, or got a 905x3 or x4 that had the locked down updated Google system, but those are far and between. (usually by mecool)

I am having difficulties getting the box to boot into emuelec via a flash drive. It boots just fine from a SD card, but it does not seem to recognize the flash drive. Anyone have a solution or ideas on what I need to do to get this to work?
Friend, I have the TV Box HK1 Play (S905X2 4/128gb), but I tried to install a Custom Firmware via SD card and the Box is bricked, it is not detected on the PC in the USB Cable by the USB Burning Tool, I cannot reinstall the system Its Android on SD card (image does not appear on HDMI), can I somehow reinstall the Android system on this Box??? This method of Emu Elec in the EMMC internal memory, can I boot from the pendrive or SD card with card reader to boot and reinstall Android via Putty??? I need to revive Box, it is dead in blue and red LED.

The important thing is, it needs to boot with a valid dtb. So get that sorted on a usb stick or a microsd on a usb microsd adapter- then you should be golden.
i buddy i have the emeelec set up with sd card on amlogix s905x2 i want to install rom etc on a 2 tb hdd is there a way to install everything including emuelec operating system and all roms on a 2 tb hdd ??
Should be able to, I know you can have ROMs in an external location. Check the emuelec wiki for more info on that

I have tx3 mini 2021, and i want to install emuelec on it, i used core p281_2gb to install but when firrst run on tx3mini ( pressed reset hole button) but nothing happened, it just booted into Recovery mode. Have you tried going through the emuelec guide? I usually use the libreelec boot apk rather than go for the switch in the hole.

Is it possible to boot Emuelec from SD card and run games from a USB drive.
Or store Emuelec on the box and rin games from the SD card.?

Provided it's rooted, it should run default first from USB or MicroSD. If it cannot boot then it'd run the system from internal memory.
This should work on the N2+ too? My sd card slot got messed up too so now I just use a 128gb eMMC for EmuElec!

Great hack!! However, are you limited to the remainder of internal eMMC eg 55gig or can you do another hack to use an SD card too?? eg, 55gig of eMMC and then another X of SD space? Also, with internal eMMC is there less risk of corrupting the file system as internal is usually more stable than SD?? Big thanks.
If you shut down properly there should be no risk in data corruption. In emuelec you can use internal / emuelec and the microsd for your roms if you wish. There's a switch in the emuelec system settings to select internal or external- but I don't think you can make one large set. Either internal or external.
@@TeamPandory many thanks for the response. The issue I get with risk of SD corruption is when there's a game crash or screen freeze and the standard double press of start/select doesn't get you back out of the game. I think I'm forced to turn off the crashed emuelec!! Therefore, if EmuElec installed on eMMC with ROMS also, then I guess there's less risk as the eMMC media isn't so fragile?!
As far as running main system from eMMC and then load the ROMS from SD, I'll check EMuElec settings, that'd be great, although I guess onyl really useful if you can use up internal first and then SD card for extra ROMS. Thanks again
@@avamaeva7999 If your Emuelec / RetroArch is frozen and you can't access the Menu, connect via Commandline, like in this video, and send the "reboot" command. The system will save the metadata and boots again clean. No hard poweroff :)

Perhaps try an earlier version then update? ... TBH I was pretty offended when they removed this, as my primary 905x3 has a broken microsd. - Which box are you installing this onto?

If you were take the sd card and connect it to your phone (S21 etc.) or into your computer, would you be able to run the games? You could achieve better performance this way right?

@@TeamPandory Yeah my bad I realize that. I was just wondering in general with any of these consoles/rom games, if we were to take the sd card out and use it in a PC or higher end phone would the games that don't work so well potentially work better? If so, I wonder if it's possible to just an order an SD card with the roms on them and use them in whatever device you want. I guess we'd need to make sure we use the right emulator but that shouldn't be difficult right ? These consoles always seem to be underpowered so it would be really convenient to be able to run the roms from whatever device you want. It seems like it would also be more convenient getting the roms on the sd card rather than finding everything separately. Thanks for the info.
@@ACYYZ I guess you could do that, but it really depends. The console x had part of the microsd partitioned to fat32, so it'd work like you mentioned- but if the games are on a linux partition, you'd need to faff a bit.
To say they'd perform better or worse. That again depends on the system that you're migrating to. If you have an i7 it should have no problem, but if the hard drive is failing, or has another issue, it could potentially perform worse. Hope that makes sense.

Hi there. If emuelec is installed internally, how do you copy games to internal memory? I don't see any file manager that allows me to copy games to internal mem.

So, no luck on 4.2 . SAME ERROR . so either the box itself or some putty setting that I am missing..

When we wrote ce, don't push enter, but push tab a few times- it will give you a list of commands that start with ce.
If the command is not there, then it should be the build of emuelec itself that is the issue.
Which exact chip and version of emuelec are you using? It may only be in the NG versions of emuelec - We used 905x3 with the 4.3 NG build.
@@timwilson1042 so , apparently with s905 is not working due the image not beeing the ng version . i did try to flash the ng but not luck with three .img . testing batocera tonight. what a shame i was looking forward to it
