Just a heads up guys, if you install retropie on top of raspian you have to install the usbromservice from the manage packages/ manage optional packages in the setup ui.

How do you install the usbromservice? I'm super new to all this and need it dumbed down alot lol. I installed retropi no problem on my rpi4 however I cannot figure out how to move roms to the pi for the life of me. I tried formatting a USB to fat32 and putting the folder named retropie in it and when I plug it in to my rpi4 and boot up retropie it does nothing and I think this may be why

Just a thought you mention at some point when copying the files from the pie to the thumbstick drive that you can't tell when it's done if there isn't LED on the thumbstick but can't you simply tell by looking at the back of the Pie board and check if the little green LED is still on?

Love the videos and sorry to be stupid. I am using a 256 gd Wolfano sd card image, and it is great, and I doubt i will add too many extras. But I would like to add (or try to add) return to castle wolfenstein - that is a classic (from my younger days). The biggest flash drive I have ever bought is half of the size of the sd card I have this image on. Can I add extra games onto the retro with the usb, or must the usb be larger than the sd card? Can I run some games off the usb and others off the sd is I guess what I am trying to ask??
I understood that games on the sd could be deleted from the pi (from your video), but still do not fully understand if I could add extras on a USB drive - it is "only" 128.
Thanks again for the great videos.

I have a 32Gb sd full of goodies, but is still missing few systems. This solves my problem, i have few spare usb drives, so i just do this and remove the trasfered ones or some of them to make space and ad new systems.
    Thatnk's again ETAPrime.
I do how ever have a guestion.
Theres lot's of guides how to change Mega drive to genesis, but i would like to reverse the order from genesis to mega drive?
is it done the same or is there differenses?
The box arts etc. are more than likely to dissapear after this?
Sorry for the rough English , i'm totaly new on Raspberry and Retropie.

    Hello,
First off, your video is great. Nicely and thoroughly explained. I, however, am still having a hell of a time getting games from my usb stick to work on the actual pie. I am a 1st year coding teacher and was wondering if I could private message with you about how to do this. I have read a ton of stuff online so far but I feel that none of it answers my question(s). I have also tried your method in the video only to be met with an error log message when launching a game or just a black screen. I am trying to have this as a station in my classroom but so far all I have achieved is a LOT of frustration. Thank you and have a wonderful day!

(The HDD works fine only with the USB on any normal PC, but idk if the Pi can handle it or maybe that could cause some issues). I really need big space for roms, and on my country my options are a 64GB SD card for $40, or an external 500GB HDD for $50. Btw, this methods works on retropie and recalbox? Thanks

You can enable exfat on the retropie as well if you wish to use Windows formatting. Quit ES and type in the command line the following:
    sudo apt-get install exfat-fuse exfat-utils
Press enter. Make sure you are hooked up to the internet. After that you can use exfat formatted USB drives just like a fat32 drive.

Hi m8! Just was wondering. I've downloaded the motion blue attract mode image thats around 9gb from Arcade Punks. I can't access the roms folder through my network for some reason. So, I thinking would it work on attract mode transferring via USB? Might make things easier. Basically I can't get through the network because I'm prompted with a username and password which I've tried a few and can't get into it. Weird, it usually opens up. Might be a firewall or something I don't know. Any helps appreciated 😀 Cheers

Question. Would it be possible to have the raspberry pi running a software (say the wii software) and you could have a disc reader attached to it so when a wii disc is inserted into the disc reader I could play the inserted game.
Edit: I am new to the raspberry pi and I happen to have some games from a friend who was getting rid of them, so I wanted to make something that could run them but I can't find out how to do this anywhere. (Other than some sketchy websites)

Quick question, can does it COPY the ROMS over or does it MOVE them to the external drive? I was asking cuz if it copies them I was wondering can I then go back and delete them from the SD Card to get that space back?
