      Hi! I just wanted to say is that I think JYPS main problem is debuting with a BANGER concept that some people like but some don't, but the later on wanting to adapt to whatever concept is in the trend right now. Then the fans that liked their old concept get upset and the whole thing starts over again.

    For me the promotion strategy is the problem. Because only sending them music shows isn’t working and they stopped buying them @ds.. since cake era fans are the ones donating to the fanbases to buy @ds.
    The members have huge potential in Korea and JYPE doesn’t cares to promote them. Yuna has the “IT” girl energy, Chaeryeong goes viral anytime she goes on a variety show and Lia goes viral anytime she sings in her rnb style or do a photo shot, and all the members are great at MCing

    I watched Planet Minjae's video on the worst releases of 2024 so far and even though I personally disagree with him putting BBB in that vid, he did say something that I agree with. Having your title track be worse than your b-sides is one of the worst marketing decisions you could make. I love Itzy bsides, but I remember when the Kill My Doubt album came out. I was talking with friends and I said that they could have made None of my Business the title and cut Cake entirely and that would have been much better. It is not the responsibility of listeners to give artists a chance, artists are supposed to put out music people want to listen to.

    For me " boys like you " didn’t do it for me at all while " untouchable " sounded great for me. And yes music is subjective,
    but I feel as if they lost their original plot/ concept and sound and that’s why people didn’t tune in. (For example : Ive, yes they change sounds but it’s still elegant enough to be unique to them ).This is why concept and consistency is important people. This is also what helped many groups to be successful. If anything I think JYP should promote more of Itzy's strengths ( promote them everywhere until the general public is tired of them ). So where the hell is the marketing team of Itzy ?

    • @tyano4ka340
      @tyano4ka340 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +32

      Heavy on Ive. I said that many times, you can HEAR that it's their song and the album's consistency is here.
      For itzy, I think they can't pick a side: they have hard hitting girl crush, and Ryujin and Yeji greatly appeal to it and somewhat of a bright side, which I'd say is more for Lia and Yuna (I don't say that they can't do otherwise, the girls are really versatile and talented)
      Their earlier discography managed to combine it, but starting from mitm and sneakers they can't find perfect 'inbetween' for them
      BtB comeback was decent, although I didn't like and I hope jype finally will get their s together and will continue to be on a right track for them

    • @alix4256
      @alix4256 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +26

      @@carterjones4675 But even Red Velvet's changning concept IS their concept, and on top of that when it changes it is still within certain boundaries that bring a "Red Velvet" image. For example they are vocal heavy, clean, and highly artistic across the board. You could not imagine RV releasing an Everglow or SKZ-like EDM, instrumental-heavy title track or an extreme hip-hop based release without it being inconsistent and jarring, even though that would technically be the biggest "concept change". Yes people appreciate diversity, but without those small elements of consistency in ALL releases it will be recieved badly.
      As stated in this video, Itzy's point of difference is their dance breaks, so when MITM changed the concept AND didn't retain the dance break, a core part of their identity/strength, it was recieved badly by their supporters.

    • @killbethy
      @killbethy 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think Dreamcatcher is pretty much the perfect example of consistency with concept and sound. They might not be huge in Korea, though they've gotten an influx of new fans recently with Justice and Bon Voyage, but they've kept their fanbase. And when their more dedicated fanbase did criticize some releases, they course corrected pretty quickly. You can never appease the general public forever. Every group that dominates the charts always gets replaced my others eventually. But keeping the same sound and concept while expanding on it keeps your fanbase loyal enough to keep doing well and produce consistent results.

      @@alix4256 I understand what you're saying actually, but Not Shy came out before MITM and it didn't have a dance break and people liked it. And I remember a lot of people liking MITM and Loco. Itzy's downfall started with Sneakers. Also I don't think them not having dance break was something many people were super concerned with. I think it was just that the teasers for sneakers made the actual song fall short and it was disapointing. The teasers were giving badasss royal vibes but what we got was "pull my sneakers on" instead. That's what really upset people, and for that I understand and agree it was disapointing. And for Boys like you I get if it's not really your thing. But everything after that was super forced hate, because Cheshire, Cake, and Untouchable were all very Itzy coded and were very good.

Lias dancing, Yunas hip pads, Pick me allegations. Then came the criticism on their whole discography from fans as well as non fans. The disappointment of the fans was quickly overshadowed by the "they were never that great as compared to X group to begin with" opinions. "The music is the problem" could not agree more. As someone who's had experience mixing songs in the past, just try listening to the instrumental versions of Icy, Wannabe and Not Shy, all 3 songs were so layered, it never felt "flat" or empty. Then compare then to any of the instrumentals of their recent songs (Apart from Born Again and Untouchable), the beats are very steady, repetitive and often not layered with much, for a lack of a better term, kinda boring haha. I love Itzy and I love their music, especially the songs that most people seem to hate lmao. What I hate is JYP’s vocal training.
    There’s a video of Itzy recording songs, and jyp says Yeji sounds like she must have a cold cause she’s really nasally that day, and im like bitch what? That’s how your company trains almost all your idols to sing! Yeji has always been nasally, and you’re just noticing now???

    I HIGHLY disagree... just as kpop fans always do, fans attack artists personally when they release music they don't like. During "Sneakers" era, I saw sooo many people calling Yuna a pick me, Lia a bad dancer and singer, saying Ryujin makes their ears bleed, Yeji is a bad leader, and Chaeryeong is ugly. Lia literally had to be diagnosed with anxiety disorder for the hate train to somewhat calm down. I don't get why people just can't say "This song sucks," or "This performance sucks" without commenting about the artists bodies or sending them threats. All kpop fans need to learn from history, learn from the Itzy, IVE, Le Sserafim, and ILLIT hate trains, and learn the difference between criticizing something/someone vs. bullying someone. History can't keep repeating itself. And Itzy don't even write their own music, JYP does most of the time.

    You may have a point with casual listeners not getting through to the whole Album due to the title track.
    They have many other good releases, expecially Japanese (Voltage, Ringo...) I wasn't too fond of their latest Album though.
    Anyway, I like them and hope for them to succeed. I think your explanation regarding the competition is quite valid. It simply became much harder to garner attention with great new GGs releasing great songs left and right.

    IMHO Twice not charting in Korea is mostly because they've shifted their focus to the US market, where they are charting on Billboard, and that K-pop is very fast-paced and as a 9-year group they won't be getting the same attention as new players, who also usually get more funding to help them kick in the door. I wouldn't say JYP is fumbling with Twice, their focus isn't on capturing a new audience with a viral hit (which they actually get anyway, like Look at me, because the music is consistently good), but on satisfying their longtime fans with concert tours and releases that feel like they belong with the rest of their discography. I became their fan in 2021, when they were already shifting from the Korean market to the international one, and I've been really happy with their releases, both old and new, so I think the focus on maintaining the fanbase (which grows older and has more disposable income) is serving them well. 💗

    i’m not sure if i agree that their inconsistent discography is why they are very unpopular or not as liked anymore.. i mean look at aespa for example. they have a large variety of genres and change concepts a bit in the discography but are popular and loved. i think it’s just the quality of music. itzy have occasional good songs, but for the most part their discography is just.. bad. a lot of it is quite outdated in ways, and (i’m sorry) but their voices are quite strained and hard to listen to on some more recent tracks. and they just aren’t doing much interesting stuff with their music and concepts anymore. they do have a strong concept about self love and and being themselves, but it feels a bit tired now. i think they are relatively consistent with their concept, honestly, other than the occasional trying something new. the biggest reason though is there’s sooo many girl groups debuting and they all are new and exciting, and other girl groups are continuing to get better and better, itzy has not been competing.

    but it's the missleading previews which caused the dissapointment which made the audience aggressive and they just bashed the song out of frustration bc people wanted that concept and were so happy to finally get it but were fooled(?)

    FINALLY SOMEONE AGREES WITH ME (12:53) the amount of people who say that “you should just listen to their b-sides anyway” miss the point of what a title track is supposed to do, the title track should interest me enough to check out the b-sides especially with the amount of music that is released in K-pop I don’t have time to listen to every single song, that’s the purpose of the title track. Unless you’re actively in the fandom you’ll most likely only listen to the title track.
    This, I’ve noticed, is a big issue in K-pop where the title track (not all the time) is different than the rest of the album, especially for mini albums, it annoys me sm. I was so happy when I listened to Leigh-Anne’s ep “No hard feelings” it’s so coherent and such an amazing listen, I HIGHLY recommend it

About the massive hate, you were free to say anything about the group no matter how harmful it was because the company would do nothing to stop it. Lot of people in these comments talking about Twice “falling off” which seems odd when this video should be about Itzy and their music. Love the Itzy girls, but twice should not be brought up in this convo. No matter how many times ya’ll say twice are falling off it will never make it true. They’re gonna keep releasing music that their fans love and they’re gonna keep making history as one of the greatest girl groups ever. Korean music charts aren’t the end all be all in a groups success and the quicker ya’ll learn that the more you’ll learn to appreciate music for music’s sake. At the end of the day, all your favorite girl groups and dare I say even boy groups wish they had even a fraction of what Twice has achieved.
    And just to add, I don’t even like most of Itzy’s music, but to deny there wasn’t a hate train is crazy. A member literally had to go on hiatus for her mental health and if you think that didn’t have anything to do with the hate train they got, then I don’t think you live in reality.

    I agree with everything except replacing the center. Ryujin would be perfect in the center if JYP hadn't been actively trying to crush her since debut out of their irrational fear of creating a second Miss A. She had so much hype at debut that should could have been an It Girl at least for a while like Somi and Sejeong but instead she was shoved to the background for fear that she would overshadow the other members. They didn't even allow her to rap in Dalla Dalla. Ryujin has wanted to host and act since pre-debut but JYP still gives her the least schedules of any member. They should really allow her to act in a drama or join some variety show as a primary cast member at least. I think she'd do great and this could re-ignite interest in the group. Of course it could go wrong like how Nana is basically the only member that 99% of non-fans know about in Wooah but it could also go right like how Hyeri really boosted the popularity of Girl's Day. I feel like a Girl's Day situation is way more likely in Itzy's case because there is plenty of content with the other members for new fans to see in order to get to know the other members whereas Wooah's company really only pushes Nana and, to a lesser extent, Wooyeon so it's obvious that new fans would only really know/like those members. To be clear, this isn't Nana's fault or really even the company's because they're small and don't get many opportunities. But JYP is in a different situation. They could use Ryujin as the stan attractor and then push the other members because they have that pull to get solo schedules for the other members whereas Wooah is lucky if even just Nana is given an opportunity.

    • @Yointrovert
      @Yointrovert 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      JYP is really traumatized by Miss A situation. I mean, Jyp can just promote the members just little individually. Even Twice is having individual promotions now.I remember someone mentioning in Reddit that Itzy never had any individual promotions in the beginning, and that could solidify them.I agree with Ryujin joining a variety show cause she is effortlessly funny.

    • @miadavis4837
      @miadavis4837 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Yointrovert Yes, Itzy never had any individual promotions for like the first 3 years or so after debut. Also, while Twice did have a few (like Tzuyu's commercial and Dahyun doing Real Men) when they first debuted, they stopped having any individual promotions at all for years once Cheer Up happened and they got popular. Fans were begging for a J-Line Unit, Solo debuts and some acting from the members for years but it didn't happen until they renewed their contracts 7 years after debut. IMO it was actually smart for JYP to focus solely on whole group promotions when both Itzy and Twice first debuted but after about a year or so they should have started letting them have some individual promotions. Itzy was so big back then that they could have gotten great individual schedules for each of the members.
      A great example of this is Le Sserafim. The group started out with Sakura being the most popular by far and then Chaewon and then a huge gap between those two and the other members. But Source did do a good job of finding good individual opportunities for each of the members. Sakura had some individual appearances and her own web-series (where each of the members guest starred) but also focused a lot on the Japanese Market, Chaewon was a regular in a variety show with Hyeri and did some brand deals, Kazuha did some brand deals, Yunjin got to make her solo debut with music that she writes along with brand deals and Eunchae got her own web series as well as an MC position on a music show. Now, while Sakura and Chaewon are still the most known members, all of the members are well known and there isn't some huge popularity gap like Suzy and Miss A or Nana and Wooah. JYP had the power to do this too but they didn't take it and now the result is that Ryujin has lost like 99 percent of her debut hype. And the company STILL hasn't made any real efforts to change that.

    As a Midzy since ICY Era I was sooooo dissatisfied with the decline in music quality with the group, but I stayed because JYPE honestly did such a good job when creating ITZY, but totally missed the mark when it came to marketing the group properly and giving them music we want to swallow.
    I didn’t hate “In the Morning” later down the line, I was highly concerned abt the giant shift initially, but it became one of my fav songs later because of Lia’s Bridge Portion (and we all know Yuna ate Stage Presence Wise)
    LOCO ATE DOWN. It literally would’ve been so smart for them to continue the more mature side of Teen Crush/Gurl Krush by focusing on Mature (not sexual) Love; at least that’s why LOCO Era ATE👏DOWN👏 for me.
    It was similar to egg we knew, but more mature. And based off of what I’ve heard online fan forums say the most, the reason that “In the Morning” happened was cuz fans were complaining abt the adolescent feel Midzy’s were giving; cuz all of their fans were growing up and their music still felt juvenile (hence the fear that their sound may get boring and tasteless).
    But LOCO literally felt like it grew up with its audience, but kept the identity of the group.
    Ever since Sneakers I’ve been the sad fan that’s been trying to like the music because I like the girls. A starved fan who’s waiting for ANYTHING to eat when released, just because I understand the talent of THE👏GIRLS👏.
    I am an ITZY Stan for THE👏GIRLS👏, but their music has made me look foolish for staying.
    As a WIZ*ONE who gravitated towards the DIVE into IVE route (literally fitting my vibe of elegance), I can satisfy myself by drifting off into music I genuinely like.
    But everytime ITZY releases anything I find myself either liking the music out of force or because the girls served so well Stage Presence and Dance Wise. Literally it was only Cheshire Era that I couldn’t do this with, cuz despite the interesting concept, it was so boring (but Snowy honestly ATE).
    I’m hoping JYPE can step it up for the girls as we approach the end of the girls’ 7yr contracts, so they can either end strong, or have a genuine reason to even consider resigning.
    I hope for either that, or that if the girls do choose to resign, JYPE will make a perfect strategy on how to make them Chart with Good Music and Proper Marketing.
    Otherwise I wish the girls their best as they navigate a more desirable career choice.

If KPop groups can be praised for versatility even at a shallow level, then why can't the same be said for Itzy? Maybe the release of Snickers was a mistake, but the complete disappearance of Cheshier, the mess with the release of Cake and the miss management of the entire Born to Be album... there is a persistent feeling that no one understands what Itzy is about anymore (neither the company/nor the girls/audience)
