I actually auditioned for the peppers when I was still a teenager, I believe it was the second time after John left. I was actually playing through one of John's old rigs. I can tell you the setup that he had at their rehearsal place. It was a fender Super Reverb, pre CBS I am almost certain it was a '64. And a a-b switch going into a 1968 Marshall Plexi Super Bass 100 watt. I don't remember a!l of the effects, but I know EHX memory man, MXR phaser, MXR flange, Digitech digital delay (blue double pedal one) And my favorite was an original Vox Clyde McCoy (60's) that actually had a short in it, but wow the sweep and sound and it wasReally worked in. I love that pedal! And the guitar tech told me John used a lot of that gear on actual recordings. Now there was a lot of other gear, but my mind was in a haze. And it was dark in their practice place, it's actually a small club with a bar and I don't ever remember seeing the stage with the lights fully turned on.And when something is not your setup and you are thrown into a high pressure situation where your life could change forever, it felt like I was dreaming. To this day it doesn't seem like it happened. I got called there 3 times and they decided to pass. But yeah that was the setup. And if was John's stuff, the tech Told me and so did their manager.

Those early Super Bass 100's made pre-1974 with the "lay down" style transformer and hand wired/non-PCB circuits are one of the best amps of all time. Guys like Eric Johnson and Tom Bukovac say they're _the_ best of the Marshall line. I had an meticulous replica built from a Valve Storm/Metropolis kit using all top of the line and some NOS parts. I also own a 1971 Marshall Major, 1979 JMP 2203, 1974 Hiwatt DR103, 1961 Fender Tremolux, 1971 Ampeg SVT and a bunch of other stuff from Dr. Z, hand wired Vox amps, older Mesa Boogie and some lower wattage, single ended boutique stuff. For me though, there's nothing like the old British 50-200 watt tube heads (Marshall, Hiwatt, Orange/Matamp).
He actually used a jmp100, a jcm800, a Marshall major, a fender twin reverb, and a fender h.o.t. Practice amp to record BSSM. He'd used a 2555 live prior to that but did not use a 2555 anywhere on BSSM.

Why did you delete the comment video? You did gave some wrong information tho, the things you said about the californicatiom video were actually about the Dani California solo.
He definitely used a Bassman head for some live shows (I don't think with the Chilis); it's sometimes misidentified as the Showman since both are blackface Fenders, but the Bassman has white/cream knobs and fewer of them. Also, while John certainly used the BF Showman extensively, I believe on the Californication tour he was using a silverface Dual Showman at least some of the time. I love his gear so much; I'm working on getting one of the MIJ '62 Reissue Custom Telecasters at the moment because I love his pair so much.
Ive got both the Carvin amps as well. Not ever knowing John Frusciante used them. I originally made my way to them because the x100b was essentially built for Frank Zappa. I also knew that Alex Lifeson had used them as well. About the amps cuz there arent many reviews of them online. They are great. The clean is very Fender-like, much like a bassman. The crunch channel can sound a bit lackluster to start with but is an excellent platform if you like boosting an amp into more drive, which i do. It also a built in graphic eq, which i call the "metallica" switch cuz if you scoop the range it will sound just like early metallica sound. I mainly use with a tubescreamer in front and with the crunch channel. Sounds just like Alex Lifeson on Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures. These amps are super flexible, great sounding and affordable.
You should do some more video. I shall take this information to my wonderful axe fx :) ...and yeah, the exchange rate is fooked! Thank god I bought the Axe Fx before :)

NEED HELP ! If i want to record on professional studio sessions with my band, what kind of amp should i use ? Some people say that 100 watt tube amps are too loud for studio recordings and that a modeling amp with 10 watts should be the better option... but john used 100 watt tube amps as well so i dont know what to think... And how should i use effects? should i use pedals on recording or the amp effects (gain) itself ?
My favorite is definitetly his solo-career. I love To Record Only Water For Ten Days, all the 2004 albums and The Empyrean is great as well. Niandra Lades and the electronic stuff are great as well but in a special way.
