Recently bought a tone master deluxe reverb solely off your review, you’re the only guitar based youtuber that I genuinely believe when it comes to gear and guitar techniques, your genuine opinions and endless skill always amaze me, please never stop making videos and music Dave :)
The Marshall Jackhammer is a brilliant pedal! Its definitely an always on pedal for me too, I use it as a subtle crunchy boost as I would blow my ear drums trying to get that edge of break up sound on my Twin reverb 😂 Just got the PastFX Chorus Ensemble too thanks to your recommendation/Videos and I love it. I’m also pretty certain most people watching this also have a DS-2 too which is just a classic! Love the videos as always Dave. ☺️👍🏼
Foreal we should all send rhcp these vids and have them hire Dave to tour with them and be backup guitarist like josh was back in stadium tour in 07. You are insane man!
Yep you definitely influenced my pedalboard in a way. Boss tuner, DS2, TC rusty fuzz, Phase 95, wh10v2, past fx chorus preamp and boss rc3. Stereo into a semi clean katana 100 and distorted katana 50. Thank you guru of everything Frusciante!
YES DAVE! You'll see from my latest video your channel, content, thoughts and pedal choices have GREATLY influenced my own Frusciante inspired essentials board. Would love for you to do a home rig tour for us one day.
Man just bloody delicious! You'll be the guitar hero for future generations, well your mine already that's for sure! Also such a lovely guy who deserves all the luck in the world! So happy to see you happy again, you look great
I’ve a studio nearing completion after two years 10 minutes from the channel tunnel. Dave is always welcome to call in on his way to see the girls in France or on the way back.😎👍
extraordinary man as always , the intro jam is pure passion and I just wanted to say thank you for your boss katana videos you really help me choosing this amp one of the best options. Greetings from Ecuador 🇪🇨
Oh yes thanks Dave awesome! and its great to see that subscibers amount steadily climbing as it should if there is any justice and appreciation of great music and a top bloke.
Unbelievable jam Dave... Might need to get myself a jackhammer for the little boost. I just ordered the ce-1 preamp from JFX pedals. Hoping to get that tone soon!
Yup, excellent vid....and i do love my chorus ensemble 'deluxe'. Oddly enough I find the high pre amp section a bit noisy and run mine low at about 3 o'clock. But, I've only had mine for about 4 months, so keep tweaking from time to time. Maybe I'll try high and turn it down to 12 or less and see how that goes (again). Cheers. 🎸🎸🎸
This is cool stuff, really cool and I dig you inspired playing. Re Frusciante, I think if you're trying cop his vibe you still need to find the balance (wet/dry) a little more and he tends to have less apparent effect than in some of these vids but great choice of guys to try a model and use for tone inspiration! Cheers
*AMAZING TONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FANTASTIC and WOW, using the ds-2 instead of a fuzz makes so much sense. Though I would love to hear how your practice of using any amp with your board to get that tone works. Question how do you find using a BOSS od-200 APPOSED TO A ds-2, DO YOU THINK the same some could be achieved*
High and 12 o'clock is what Dave Lee said but all the photos and stills from all areas I find show the low mode and about 3 o'clock ... so.. closer to what you got and also what I find to work best (actually more 4 o'clock, Strat into Mini Silver Jubilee at 7/10)
I also tend to have my Triangulo Chorus Ensemble in Low mode and cranked up! When I engage the chorus in Low mode it is more transparent and let’s say apparent than in high mode. I use the high mode only when I have to engage the fuzz / distortion while the chorus or vibrato is engaged.
It sounds like that when you enable the jackhammer because it can't handle the massive signal you're feeding it from the maxed ds2 boosted with the chorus, so it's overloading the jh input section and clipping the high frequencies out. I bet it opens up as you lower the ds2 volume. I get the same thing when I max out my muff before the ocd, it muffles up. Usually I try to avoid that, but it does work great for certain things.
Hi Dave, apologies if this is an obvious question but I’ve always wondered how you have your DS-2 level set at max without the volume absolutely blowing your head off. My rig is totally inspired by yours, I have the Jackhammer, DS-2 and Ibanez Wah (thinking of getting that chorus pedal after watching this video) but the one thing I’ve never been able to imitate from you is having your DS-2 level maxed out. I can do it but only if I turn the Jackhammer volume way way way down, or turn my amp volume itself way down. It’s like I can only get that sound if I sacrifice the volume on every other part of my rig, and that’s just not what I want and neither is it how you do it either (I think at least) Is there some sort of obvious secret I’m missing? Appreciate all you do for us Frusciante fanboys and always love these kind of vids :)))
The DS2 should be about the same volume as if you were to strum super hard. So think of Dani California where the chorus starts and it goes from clean to distorted. It's a noisy pedal too so if you don't play anything then you'll get a bunch of loud white noise coming through. So my tips are to play hard right before you engage the DS2, and then only use the DS2 while you're playing a note. If you don't want noise to come through, then disengage it.
What is the better pedal for getting the compression overdrive. The Jackhammer or Golden Plexi? Also, will those pedals work on tube amps with 6L6s and get the same effect?
i have a really similar 5-pedal setup that goes all the way through californication to by the way to stadium arcadium (just adding the fuzzrite) minus any time effects. i might add a chorus or delay on top of that. even his stadium arcadium rig isn't that big, all the analog time effects he uses on top is what gives the board that sort of enormous look but it's quite simple! i totally agree that you should use pedals to sculpt out this tone and i use a blackstar or pedal amp as platform but hopefully will upgrade soon.
I googled around but didn't see it -- Dave mentions in this video that he has setups for the By the Way and Stadium Arcadium tones. Does he have any videos covering them? Thanks so much for this info, Dave!
Hey Dave, love the video, interesting you now run with a CE also in the chain, I am currently waiting for one from Triungulo, just the Pre-amp circuit though, I already have a Boss chorus. I also used to use a JH from your videos but just got a Silver Jubilee for my birthday so can overdrive that :) Hope I can ask you a question....quite a lot people go on about the DS-2 manufacturer, IE Japan etc as some sound different, have you found this and do you care? Thanks mate.
Hi Dave, love your vids! Is there any chance you could do a tutorial for the super fast hammer on moving between the strings? I struggle to move between the strings. Would love to learn how to do it and maybe some exercises to help with the progression
I love that you have a zoom multieffects as one of your main pedals. For what you use it specifically? :) The first time i had bought a Zoom G1XON was mainly for a cheap alternative for whammy thing, and somehow it worked well, but it has big amount of weird and interesting effects that i currently use, is fantastic :D
Definitely buying the ibanez wh10v3 now because of you dave! Also a quick and noob question, I already watched the boss katana 50v100 vid you did since I'm planning to buy it as well not only for john's tone but it's versatility, On to the main point does it still work well with low volume since I'm living in an apartment. (Plugging in the pedalboard too, Marshall Jackhammer - DS2 - Wh10v3 potentially) Keep up the great work! Edit: Forgot to mention i'll be getting the 50watt version, my bad
Hello Dave, congratulations on your work and your music, you can see that you do all this with passion and dedication. I've followed pretty much all of your videos on how to get the Frusciante sound and I'm almost there. in a video you said that you rely on your pedals to recreate the sound because obviously you can't always have your favorite amp available. In my case I have this amp: DV Mark Jazz 12 can you give me some advice on how to set it up? if I put the volume of the ds 2 to 10 there is a jump in volume too large but if I keep it more I lose the characteristic sound of the ds 2 (as you teach ^^). Thanks for your time and keep it up! 😊 Federico
Have you ever explored with any Josh inspired tones? Like the outro jam for goodbye angels for example… Would love to hear thoughts on that and many more Dave ☺️
Hey Mr Simpson! I’ve watched this video about 100 times by now - listening to the intro has become my morning routine lol. Is there a song you based that intro on? I’ve been dying to learn how to play it!
Thank you for this video Dave! Quick question. I've been on the lookout for a JackHammer for a while and had trouble finding one. Anything else you'd recommend that could get close to that sound?
I have the Marshall DSL20CR combo and I’m struggling to get a decent edge of breakup tone, the classic gain is too clean and the ultra gain is too dirty. I have the jackhammer and the Ce-1 but when I engage the DS2 or WH10 I get the huge volume jumps. Any suggestions?
Hi Dave. I have a generic chorus pedal. Do you have any suggestions for settings on level/tone/rate/depth for a JF under the bridge sound? I’ve heard about cranking the depth but that sounds super weird. Thanks for your work because it’s making a big difference for a lot of players.
hi Dave! been checking many of your videos, would you say the ce1 is in fact something relevant in order to get everything working? I have been struggling to get my wh10 to work in any way similar to yours or JF. I am not going for a full JF type of sound nor pedalboard, but I do love his that wah sound. Atm I am using a preamp type pedal between the amp and the wah, and a couple dist and fuzz pedals after it. It does sound nice, but nothing close to what you have going
The ce1 is not important at all no. Your amp/overdrive pedal settings are more important. The ce1 just adds a little sparkle but is very expendable. :)
I can't get enough of your JF tone vids Dave, and each time you play the Slane intro all hell breaks loose... Super stuff as usual!
Recently bought a tone master deluxe reverb solely off your review, you’re the only guitar based youtuber that I genuinely believe when it comes to gear and guitar techniques, your genuine opinions and endless skill always amaze me, please never stop making videos and music Dave :)
Same here!!!! I convince everyone that has doubts over the tonemaster, watch Dave’s video!!
Thank you David for this excellent demonstration of the correct use of the Fender Stratocaster
You’ve nailed the tone, brother. Perfect. Great vid!

seriously grateful for you Dave, you've helped me so much and wanna let u know your videos never go unnoticed.
No matter what guitar you play you sound great 🎸👍 but I really love it when you make a Strat sing. Best to you man
I love your videos mate, really awesome guitar and knowledge. I lived in the UK years ago, still love that accent
you've nailed this, always sounds sick. Loved the intro
This video felt like a birthday gift the day it came out, I keep coming back to it and you made me buy a jackhammer, holy cow do I love it
YES DAVE! You'll see from my latest video your channel, content, thoughts and pedal choices have GREATLY influenced my own Frusciante inspired essentials board. Would love for you to do a home rig tour for us one day.
Man, I love your content so much. Been following you for ages. Wish you the best!
Again, love the feeling you eminate. As you said, let it breathe. You do it in all right places!
Thanks for continuing to educate us all.
Man just bloody delicious! You'll be the guitar hero for future generations, well your mine already that's for sure! Also such a lovely guy who deserves all the luck in the world! So happy to see you happy again, you look great
Can't argue about the tones achieved...very inspiring 😎👍
😎👍❤🖖
Love Brother
I tried my Jackhammer after watching and wow, it’s a cool pedal. Never thought about using it as a clean channel.
I’ve a studio nearing completion after two years 10 minutes from the channel tunnel.
Dave is always welcome to call in on his way to see the girls in France or on the way back.😎👍
Man I love your intro jams. Keep it coming man❤
You look really well Dave. That was very well presented btw.
Thanks for making these videos. I’m obsessed with JF too. Very informed videos. Amazing guitarist too!
extraordinary man as always , the intro jam is pure passion and I just wanted to say thank you for your boss katana videos you really help me choosing this amp one of the best options. Greetings from Ecuador 🇪🇨
Okay so big thank you for all of your top tier content Dave! I've just pulled the trigger on a Jackhammer to try out. 👍
Oh yes thanks Dave awesome! and its great to see that subscibers amount steadily climbing as it should if there is any justice and appreciation of great music and a top bloke.
Beautiful sounds and incredible playing mate. Very inspiring 🙏🏻
Unbelievable jam Dave... Might need to get myself a jackhammer for the little boost. I just ordered the ce-1 preamp from JFX pedals. Hoping to get that tone soon!
Very informative and the jams were outstanding!!
Great Tone as always. Really loving it.
Hi there dave love your playing mate keep up the good work👍
Quality as always Dave! Respect 🤘 🎸

Excellent video mr Simpson
Well done as always 👍
About to plug my 1982 - '57 RI into my newly acquired Marshall Jackhammer.
Thanks Dave!!!
And it's glorious!!!
Oh, but off to to that 4-letter word...."work".
Can't wait to get back home.
Rock on, Dude!!!
So great Dave, amazing playing
I’ve just taken delivery of a Marshall Jackhammer. Thank you, thank you, thank you 🙏 🎸😊

John only used a wet dry rig for a brief period of time. Other than that his amps we're dry.
That "cleanish" tone is 🔥🌶❤
Taste Tone N Chops !! Dave has got it and super modest as well
Got my tickets to their 2022 tour. Looking forward to some new music.
*AMAZING TONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FANTASTIC and WOW, using the ds-2 instead of a fuzz makes so much sense. Great intro jam could you do a how to play this years happy birthday John furscainte
Love it. It just shows that you don't need a hundred pedals to achieve great tones.. Great playing too.
Outstanding as always ☘️

@@D-NastyNoise yes they will. They're both great, but you can shape the tone even more precisely with the jackhammer

Quite frankly I think of this as a "Dave Simpson tone" more than a John tone. Love hearing about other players pedalboards...

I'm going to the rhcp concert in Paris in July I can't wait
Very informative, thanks
sounds like im in heaven
Whoever the hell has given this a thumbs down has no soul.
Hey Dave, is there an Ibanez Wah clone which is more affordable? Loving your videos my man. Huge love from Australia 🇦🇺
Sadly not. :(
Hi Dave, love your vids! Is there any chance you could do a tutorial for the super fast hammer on moving between the strings? I struggle to move between the strings. Would love to learn how to do it and maybe some exercises to help with the progression
Please check out my how to play like John Frusciante series playlist. :)

Allsorts. :)
You did some mighty dirty things with that guitar, and I feel we all need to have a smoke. 😂😂😂
Hey Dave! You mentioned the make of wah you’re using in this video.. I didn’t quite catch it.
The john strat is look supreb!
Tone to die for!🙂
💖💖💖i love this thanks

this will be the video I refer to regularly haha
That Cigale Intro tho.
This is really great info. Now i want a Jackhammer😅. Or will my MXR Super Badass Distortion will be able to do the same as the Jackhammer?
Dave, I think you should be the next guitarist in the Peppers if John Flakes again, but let's hope they don't fire you for not using tubes. Lmao
Hi Dave, I hope you are well! May i ask which pedal did you start the drummer/ backing track from?
Dave, I am a follower of yours, you do excellent work, my question would be, if I don't have the wh10 and I have the vox 847, should I add a guv nor?
Yes.
Hello Dave, congratulations on your work and your music, you can see that you do all this with passion and dedication. Nice Dave
Oh man! Awesome!! 👌
Thank you. :)
What if my amp is overdriven… do I need the Jackhammer to avoid the volume jump from the DS2 and Wh10? Tks Dave! Your channel is awesome!
Not if its overdriven no.
John gets on me wick..always asking questtions and asking for a free everton shirt.. the whoppa!
The chilis should’ve hired you instead of josh back in the day
Strong with the non-CC claims you are.
Have you ever explored with any Josh inspired tones? Like the outro jam for goodbye angels for example… Would love to hear thoughts on that and many more Dave ☺️
So good dudeeee
Thank you very much. :)
Forgot to add CiCI and JJ and Diane would also be welcome 😎👍
Hey Mr Simpson! I’ve watched this video about 100 times by now - listening to the intro has become my morning routine lol. Is there a song you based that intro on? I’ve been dying to learn how to play it!
I really don't remember if i based on something or not. Sorry.
Hey Dave, love your stuff man. Quick question, do you place the jackhammer before or after the DS2?
What is the order of your pedal chain?
Guitar > DS2 > Wah > ??
Hey Dave, any substitutes to the PastFX Chorus pedal? Will any chorus pedal work (Boss CH-1 for example)
can you please do a vid on how to get johns tone on a 100watt marshall dsl?should i still be using a compressor?
Thank you for this video Dave! Quick question. I've been on the lookout for a JackHammer for a while and had trouble finding one. Anything else you'd recommend that could get close to that sound?
Tone city golden plexi or green tube.
Amazing video, thanks for this!! Do you think the Boss SD-1 could substitue the Jackhammer for the dirty clean sound? Thnx
It does ok but does make ds2 a little harsh.
@@thedavesimpson Thnx!
Incredible!!!!
Maybe try boss sd-1
Jackhammer+DS2 = Wow!
Thanks Dave for your video, What's model is your wah ?
Sooooooo good!
good sir dave , a question will be that the jack hammer pedal will go well with the clean tone of the boss katana 100 mk2 regards
Yep
Lovin’ those sounds from your Mandela filled man cave 🥰 making music like this comes second only to making love ❤️ 👌🏼✨🎸🌟
Hey Dave! Long time subscriber and fan here. Would you please share your settings on the jackhammer in this video? Thank you, good sir!
Interested in this too!! :)
