Yeah, I was excited, just one of my shorts has 600 hours in just over a month. Was looking forward to shorts hours monetizing my channel.
It did count until just the other day. I went from 1500 watch hours to 156 watch hours overnight.
I got the message in YT studio, "You have 100 channel views!", and I though- Yay, getting closer to monetization, and I'm growing fast. But no, no. (also I just hit 100 subs)
I used to post 4 shorts a day and would test different shorts everytime YT change algorithm, which was every weekend. by last week of November i got 900+ subs but so burn out, i took a few days off of youtube. Then it change algorithm again, on the 30th, next thing i know i hit 1k subs that night, that same night 1 of my shorts went viral. After that i get 1k sub a day and 1M views. Just like that. So never give up, if you feel you need a break, take a break to recharge.
So if I have 1k subs and do only shorts it will not count my public watch hours? I have only 3 hours;);)
@@uglygarden999 it will not count towards 4,000 public watch hours but will count towards 10million views within 90 days which will be an option 2 open for applications late this month i think or feb 1

some people may be confused about this but.............4k views and 4k WATCH HOURS are not the same ............. you will need around 60K regular video views (not from shorts)
or more to reach 4k WATCH HOURS to qualify for the partner program......they make it hard now ☹☹☹

grinding 10 mill in 90 days I feel like is a reasonable goal for short creators ngl. idk why short creators are always complaining about it. just grind like you would for the watch time. its not that hard as long as people grind. Ive been doing shorts primarily for alittle under 2 months and have already gotten 2 million views. just grind and u as well as everyone else will get to it soon.

@@ScottAir That's around 112,000 views per day. I'm uploading three shorts a day, so I only need around 37,400 views per short.

@@ScottAir It takes 20 minutes to an hour to draw it though. There are not enough hours in a day to do that and I work for 8 hours a day on weekdays. I only have 2 to 4 hours to work on it each day. So that is equal to 3 shorts a day.
10 mil views in 3 months is insane. I think it's better just to post shorts to get more subs and views and hope those people go watch your other videos. I got almost 1000 watch hours in about a month. Getting to 4000 watch time hours seems way more durable. Basically just post shorts to get your content and name out there to more people.
Yea that's what I do, I believe that it's simple. Consistancy is key and have fun with it
10m views in 90 days is a night mare to me🙃 first of all my shorts don't even go viral, I only get 500, 600, and the longest views are range from 1k to 2k not more.. will I get 10m views.. long way....... 🐌🐌🐌

Shorts does count for watchtime. But only the shorts being watched on pc or the shelf or something like that.
Shorts watch time DOES NOT count for monetization

I went from 1500 watch hours to 156 watch hours after TH-cam separated shorts from regular uploads.

I’ve been contemplating and I think I’m going to try to secure the monetization by shorts. 10 million sounds OUTRAGEOUS but it only takes one min! That one min can get you 1000 subs and 10 million views all on it’s own! Then try my best to convert the subs/audience to longer form videos in the future when I can actually get paid from them!
From my experience the majority of people who watch shorts and long form content, are content creators themselves. The viewers of shorts that would get you 10 million views, and not watching full videos
@@RYANandMICHELLEchannel I’m just hoping I can convert them through my shorts. But, I believe I’ll get 10 million views before 4000 watch hours on long term videos. I only have 14 vids and have 65k views. I don’t think it’s hard to make a conversion. Even if it is, I’m willing to take the gamble.

Getting 10m views on shorts is easy if your making consistently good videos. One of them is bound to go viral, trust me. It happened to me early on.
Whoever is reading DONT give up on your channel. Think about all the hard work that you have already put in. Every youtuber was once in your spot they just kept going. Stay consistent and you will reach your goals. consistent uploads and improvement and some determination is all you need! I am going for 275 subs by the end of November!!!

I would suggest making shorts to draw in subscribers since those subscribers usually watch your long-form content. It has been working great for me and keeps both of my options open!

Thanks for the help without the long explanation. I just started my channel 3 days ago and when it said 9.7 hours of watch time i thought "oh, cool. This 4000 hour mark might be really quick." But now its like "oh, i only have 2.3k views in 3 days... out of the 10 million i need,,, in 90 days."
the problem is that the view time of shorts is added to the "normal" videos, so we now dont know how many hours we have, or do we?

It’s all in one calculation… unless I’m a doofus.
In your TH-cam creator studio there is a tab called monitization. It will show you how many valid watch hours you have towards the partnership program.

When does the 10m take effect from I’ve heard 1 Oct and January. If 1 Oct is the 90 days from 1 Oct or can the 90 days end in October?

To be completely fair it says in the TH-cam Partner Program overview & eligibility page you can scroll down to FAQs and the first one is, you guessed it Valid public watch hours.
And I quote…
“What’s valid for the 4K watch hours : Long-form videos you’ve set public
What’s not valid : Private video, Unlisted videos, Deleted videos, Ad campaigns, TH-cam Shorts, and Livestreams that are unlisted,deleted, or not converted to VOD (video on demand) “

Ahhh. We just love making them, with or without hours that count. Maybe someday though....
Reasons why I stopped doing shorts in 2022:
1. Shorts did not count towards 4000 hours of watch time.
2. People said in the comments on one of my older videos that they wouldn’t get a decent view of the video when watching on a computer.
3. There was no shorts requirement in TH-cam monetisation.
I’ll start doing shorts again on January 2023.

Shorts views count but only if they aren't on the shorts feed. If they're viewed from search they count.

I've had to use shorts to simply get exposure and subs to my channel, even though the watch hours aren't counted. TH-cam should change this..... 😑

No. As long as you have your 1k subscribers already. Plus the watch time has to be from long for content, and not shorts.

That's 111,111 shorts views per day. Or you can just get 132 views per day with normal videos (5 watch minutes per view) to reach 4000 watch hours. That's way easier. I don't think TH-cam wants shorts only creators to earn money unless they are really popular so they made it very difficult to reach. And doing both splits your effort between getting watch hours and getting shorts views.

Definitely frustrating. But I guess I can see where they come from. They don't want small channels that aren't bringing in the views applicable for monetization. Which makes sense because in theory a channel that doesn't bring in a lot of views wouldn't generate much income really at all

It’s a shame shorts don’t count. Just had a short pop off and it would have been good for almost 40 hours. It’s not a lot, but someone pumping out short content could easily get to the hour’s requirement.

But i didn't apply for monetization because i still don't have 4000 watch hours. The video doesn't have a copyright claim nor a copyright protected claim. What does this mean?
