The nice thing about Shorts is that when TH-cam finally does find your audience, whether it takes a day or a year, they often go back and re-suggest your older posts to your new found audience. So Never Give up on a short! Even the ones that plateau at a couple thousand views could get millions one day once TH-cam finds the right audience for your account. I saw this happen to all of my first shorts.
@KickItGoodAlex I saw a short with 100k views but only 53likes and 0 comments. How did that happen? The people that say "yourube shorts isn't luck" just proves to us it's luck because they were also favored by the algorithm
no just keep at it... when you get a topic that hits it will be nothing... when i was focusing on Shorts earlier this year i was able to get 10million views in 1 month doing shorts. I dnt really focus as much on them anymore but if you do it could happen

What I have seen lately, is that youtube really pushes older shorts more than newer ones. Literally, it promotes already approved and great shorts rather than put new ones to the test.
@@RonnieKeong Shorts could still resonate well with the "seed audience" and still die (until being picked up days to weeks later). The truth is not even TH-cam's employees know how the algorithm works.
Shorts still work really great for me on my second channel. I mean, I am just small content creator and I work really hard (I also use a little bit of famester, but that's a necessity nowadays). I just give all my videos small initial boost, and that caused them to spread literally everywhere, bringing more and more organic views day after day.

Why does it seem like every time TH-cam attempts to do something to help channels get discovered it has the opposite and negative effect? Maybe they should stop trying to fix what honestly wasn’t broken.

I think something that needs to be genuinely addressed by youtube is how people can go from getting consistent views with every upload to LITERALLY 0 views not like their views declined or anything like some people here are stating, no the fact that you can go from getting thousands of views per video to youtube not showing your video to literally anyone its really hard to tell what you're doing wrong when you don't even have analytics to look at, it's really discouraging to new creators such as myself
It’s because TH-cam suddenly stops showing videos in suggestions and searches. This is how channels die, like mine. I'm tired of hearing BS like “you're not getting views = you need to improve your content” because that's simply not true. Viewers don't really decide what to watch, TH-cam does, manipulating the success of videos through statistics it misinterprets.

The only thing I can think that could have caused it is the fact that I tried to make a little bit more of an effort on one of my posts; unfortunately effort is very often not rewarded and its the simple stuff that gets eaten up. Perhaps for some reason my extra effort threw off the algorithm.
This clears up a lot. I've only started doing shorts earlier this year. And I didn't really understand it. I saw that a lot of my shorts would get hundreds or a few thousands of views and then stop. But I considered that a success as a small channel. I had one short that blew up in popularity (relatively, for my channel) and is still get consistent views. Still, I get plenty of new subscibers from the shorts even if they suddenly drop off in views. A bunch of them unsub within a day or so, but it's still growing my channel nicely. I'll try timing them better and see if that works!
I don't think a channel should be flagged as spam "and for good reason" for reuploading a video with one view only to see it immediately get hundreds of views. I think that is somebody finding a solution to an obvious problem with TH-cam's algorithm. And yes, I mean algorithm this time, not audience. Also, if only one person saw it before, how could that be spam? Who is getting spammed? This isn't something I've done because I'm generally happy with my Shorts performance, and if they don't perform well, I always know it's because it just wasn't good enough. But it's not something I would be against at all if I actually cared a tremendous amount and was getting no views.
I have this problem with my main account. I don't think it's the audience, since there is no audience... is like, how is supposed the video is not of interest to people of the video is not being shown to them? I had videos with 1 or 2 views, and probably those were mine, and the video is stuck like that for days, so I rather deleted it and try again, thiking that maybe I picked the wrong time, but if I do that then according to what I saw in this video is spam??? So how I'm supposed to do it better? I did that formula in TikTok, same videos, deleted them and uploaded again in different hours, then I found the right time for me and I improved! Also it sucks that in YT you need to go to third websites to see in which time exactly you uploaded a video, while in TikTok is just there, along with the day and month, that is how I was able to see what time was best for me.
@@TechTactics99 I think the main thing is to make Shorts you would enjoy yourself if you were an objective viewer. Some other things are adding subtitles, make them grab a viewers attention right from the beginning, don't make them any longer than they need to be, and try to make the end loop smoothly back to the beginning.

I put out a video debunking the myth of the SS as super soldiers (albeit while some where very good troops the vast majority weren’t) and TH-cam took the video down and I received a strike on my channel. Now to me, this is ridiculous, I wasn’t glorifying or “bigging” up this organisation, in fancy the complete opposite and yet it was taken down! You can’t win at all

I noticed that I've started to get views if I post videos daily, but if I post more than one video in a day, the views for the second video are always close to 0, like it's suddenly Shadow banned, like TH-cam is punishing me for thinking I can go ahead and share my thoughts on more than one subject in any given day.
Yep, i've been knocked down and nearly out many times! I've contacted TH-cam and they swear there is no shadow banning. Of course, they say there is no such thing..... We've all seen it and it's super frustrating! Keep grinding y'all, long term content is still available and a little more reliable.

I’ve always referred to the view death spot as a "plateau" since that’s what it’s called in graphing. Initially, I thought this was normal. But then after a while I thought, "well what if I could stop the plateau from happening and get more views?" I've got thousands of views daily only when my videos were suggested. Since January 2023, I have never received EVEN a single view from suggestions again. Not even one. On all my videos. My channel died. But people here say it's not the algorithm. Very funny.
This is good insight. I am also small content creator with mainly some faceless content, and I started posting bunch of Shorts lately. The thing that worked best for me was giving my videos a initial dose of views and likes on fames ter. This caused them to spread everywhere literally, bringing more and more organic views day after day.
Shorts have been frustrating for big channels too. I put the same shorts on Instagram and TH-cam at the same time and the Instagram videos go viral fast whereas the TH-cam shorts take an entire month or more to gain momentum. Would love some advice to know what I’m doing wrong.
I think bc IG pushes your reels better. That’s what that platform basically is. Your audience is there and not on TH-cam shorts. I still believe TH-cam shorts are a channel killer and TH-cam doesn’t want to admit it. They keep pushing it and the payout is pennies. 115k views on one short and it made me almost 45 cents. It’s a joke.
Thank you for this. I literally just started putting out shorts last week and I’ve had a few that just took off, got over 1,000 views and them bam, flatline. I thought maybe I wasn’t doing something right or was hoping maybe the algorithm would maybe try putting it out there again later.
When TH-cam tests your shorts with a seed audience, the audience should be people who have watched similar videos. Surely, they have the data from viewers to set that up. If the initial seed audience for a short is simply a random selection of people then the likelihood of the short succeeding is obviously greatly reduced. TH-cam has tons of data on their viewers and content creators. It doesn't sound like it's being used in a beneficial way at all. So much for technology.
Only thing I would take issue with is the advice to “do what works for others/what’s trending and popular. Personally I’m sick of hearing the same trending music over and over and over and over and over again on Instagram. It starts to become all the same. I say, take the non-trend road and do YOU. In the end, it’s you and your uniqueness that people will stick around for, not trending music, templates, soundbites, etc.
New youtuber here, posted a few shorts. I have had two shorts go to 2.5k views within 5 hour time frame then flatten out. Figured out that evening time to publish is best, most folks are home and in bed watching youtube I figure. I am excited to produce more and thanks for all the helpful tips!
I got 200K views on shorts in 20 days and then bam 40 views per day, I was averaging 29k views per day from shorts. Idk what happened but TH-cam just doesn't send Shorts in feed now, this happened to a lot of other creators. I still haven't started making the content that I initially planned to make but I think TH-cam algo still needs improvement, I have shorts that were sent to literally 2 people and then it just stopped, 100% watch rate 145% retention but to no avail. I'm glad I still have ideas left but seriously this is very demotivating. Anyways, I'll still grind lol.
I had 2.5 million views on my main channel - not shorts and out of the sudden I woke up in the middle of the night as apparently I was only dreaming about millions of views. Just kidding 😂😂 I have few millions on each video.
TH-cam controls what it wants. I have contacted “support” aka Bots and they say the same lies. My channel was killing it and than all of the sudden! 🦗 It is too frustrating and not worth it anymore. Luckily I don’t rely on it for 💰 any longer. Nice video though! ✌️
my shorts they do really well for 3 days, i had one short and i ended up with 5,5k views and then suddenly BOOM no views no more lol. it's like youtube is pushing you in the algorithm and sees how many people you attract. new videos always has amazing opportunities

Yeah, algorithm has changed. From getting 1000 views to down to few 100s is totally disappointing. TH-cam has gone harder when millions flocked to it when TH-cam announced monetization in 90 days..It's saturated now with more enough content
I have found that my urge is to post as soon as I make a video. But scheduling videos on the hours analytics show my viewers are viewing works better. It takes discipline.
Once I had a short horribly tank, I was kinda sad, but I didnt wanted to let that make me feel bad, so I went and made another one the next week to see if that could improve. After I finished that, I linked the previous short in the comments, now both have over 600K views when back then the first one barely passed 1000 views in the first week. I noticed Disney uploaded a video related to my new short, and that started driving trafic to it driving trafic to my next link, so dont give up in that short, try to see how you can drive attention to it!
Let me add one thing, sorry for my bad English. The posting time, in my case, is not that important. What happened to me is that when one or two shorts started working (posting something that also attracted and responded to audience searches) the other shorts, already pubblished in my channel, had started working too, as if TH-cam had identified me as a quality creator of shorts and perhaps because shorts have been offered to the same public. So it is important to find coherence between the shorts, in content, style and a duration that is not too long (30 sec)
Recently, in an attempt to enhance visibility, I used a VPN while uploa since making this change, I have noticed an enormous decrease in views on my videos. This is deeply troubling as it directly impact the reach and engagement of my content.
This is a great explanation. I just passed my one-year anniversary on TH-cam and have made almost 900 Shorts. Early on I did about as many per day as I could do. Now I'm doing two a day. I've seen the views die off on most of them as you describe. But every once and a while I get one that takes off. My most popular video received about 1 million views in the first 20 or so days. Then, BOOM, it really took off. I've studied the video and have tried to replicate it. Sometimes I come close but there is a uniqueness in it that grabs the viewer. My swipe away percentage is fairly low for it. For those just starting out, find something you like to do and do it often. It took me about 3 months to see much success. Then, 6 months in I had my Silver play button. TH-cam has been good to me but it has taken time and effort. Good luck to all!
They are really not kidding about "don't re-upload" I noticed I made a major editing mistake and missed it some how after uploading. It was still private and waiting to be published so I deleted it and re-uploaded. It got into feeds 0 times and was seen 0 times in the 24hrs after it got published. They should make an exception for unpublished videos, especially if it's reuploaded with edits,(could tell by the length) because it's not an attempt to subvert the algorithm if the algo hasn't been allowed to touch it yet.

This is honestly a perfect explanation of what's going on, I post a short (not on this channel), and it goes gangbusters usually overnight owing to different time zones. I might tweak the search key words to give it a bit of a boost, but inevitably, engagement tapers off within about an hour of that initial jump. Out of over 100 shorts, only 1 gives me consistent growth in terms of views, and even then, my channel is still susceptible to the "NO DATA" message. But it keeps me interested in producing content.
So @@vidIQ I'm at your video at 5:36 where you mention you can find out when your audience is online under the title "Where your viewers are TH-cam". Is something wrong on my TH-cam side? I don't have that information even though I have been posting for 2+ months and have well over 25K+ views? Is it a lag or anything it just says "not enough information or data".

its because youtube limits people to max 10k before i deleted my old shorts i had over 80 all stuck at 10k didn't matter how fast they go when they reached 10k they stopped abruptly its very obvious there is a limit videos dont stop just randomly at 10k everytime
@@Mizai absolutely agreed..!! no consistency is required, no fooking hooks.. i uploaded 83 videos in 22 days.. never got more than 100 views.. the reach was extremely even after my videos had maximum retention graph. Then i stopped uploading videos for 8 days.. 8 days later i uploaded 2 videos, with same tags and description.. both in same niche... but 1 of them got 3.3k views within 22 hours and the other is stuck at 100.
TH-cam unintentionally (or intentionally) killed our channel (or at least stunted us) with shorts. We have 57,000 subscribers and get like 3-5k views on videos. EVEN with a 11% clickthrough and 70% watch through. Our shorts BLEW UP when we were told to post shorts, our content has alway been long form first and high quality. the shorts that exploded were random excerpts form our long for stuff and unfortunately appears to have given us a bad seed.
Through my experience its odd though, recently had a video with high drop off but also good engagement compared to channel average. Suppose it just hit really will with seed audiences but underperformed with a brauder scope. Would love if you went in depth as to how to find & make content that can please your niche audience as well as those who dont engage as often in a future video! Good stuff :)
Wow, good to know! I was wondering how shorts work. I've always noticed a spike in views after around 6 hours, sometimes more, and then the views stop. It means the algorithm didn't find my target audience, but I'm okay with that :) I hope someday it will change. Keep grinding, my friends!

Here's what I still don't understand, let me give you a case study : -> Short did well in the beggining, like you explain in your video, reaching 400k views in about 10 days -> Short currently stands at an overall 78% View Duration, flatline retention graph all the way through the end , 66.3% average view to swipe away ratio. So essentially this is a short with a strong hook at over 100% retention for the first 10 seconds, with close to 70% View to Swipe ratio and yet it hasn"t seen any views for the past month (about 50 views/day). That's what I don't understand. According to your points , this short would be a good candidate to throw a couple millions more views at it , until those retention and swipe away numbers go way down and TH-cam goes "Welp, guess I can't find any more new people to like this". Why is it stopping now with these great analytics ?
I think the biggest problem of shorts is that until you have a main audience it's a hit or miss with them as they just send out shorts to completely random people. If they do not like the first few seconds they are going to swipe away. So they have to be appealing to as wide as an audience essentially if you are looking to grow(which is also a problem, as wide appeal is boring). They are a great promotion tool though for finding some people that could be interested in your videos out of a random audience. Think of shorts as advert on tv.

I had 4 straight months of 1-4K views and my channel grew steadily well (different channel) then all of a sudden, the same similar content, same schedule, and same ideas all just stopped getting views. I’m now averaging 30-50 views per video when that used to be my total after a few minutes. I truly don’t understand
Doesn't explain what happened to my channel. My specific case is that YT found my audience after like 8 months, it started pushing my content to it. But then suddenly stopped. What happened? Do they need to re-discover who I am, what's my niche and who my audience is? And no it's not the content is bad, cuz the same content performs pretty well on the other platforms. I didn't violate anything. It just stopped showing my content to my target audience. And I really don't know what to do about it.
Is there something wrong here? I left a comment on this video a month ago and now it has completely disappeared. Well, I'll comment again, because I can't stand when other people's opinions are silenced for no reason. My comment, which also got a few likes, was similar to this: "A similar thing happened to me but with long videos. TH-cam completely stopped suggesting them all at once at the same time and my channel died. My views dropped from 500 a day to 10, and this has nothing to do with the quality of the videos. I don't think it's due to "bad content" because I improved the thumbnails a lot, CTR and AVD are also way better than previous ones. I'm pretty sure TH-cam hinders the growth of channels, justifying it with "the audience doesn't like your videos" but this is totally wrong. If I look at the graph in a year I haven't gotten even a single view from suggested videos since that day. It's pretty obvious that my channel will never grow if my content isn't shown to anyone. I don't know if my channel is shadowbanned, but an overnight drop in views like this is simply unrealistic, and as I can see it also happens with Shorts."
Went from getting 2k-10k views, being pushed to 20k pushed out...now not even getting pushed out to 100 and nearly getting just 12 views....just like that....was great for 2months and now its nothing.
This is fascinating to hear. I've been casually growing my family's YT channel for a while, and I've seen the "shorts surge" every single time I post... although the # of views in each shorts surge has grown over time as I get better at what I post and have more interesting content, better titles, etc. Every time I hit a new milestone, it seems to gather momentum overall... and now, I'm in a new area, because I have a short that has hit a "wave" of exploitation (I guess you could call it) and I'm just riding the wave, attempting to capitalize on it when possible! :-)
after making 6k shorts i can tell you that its a random chance if a good video becomes evergreen but every few hundred or so i get an evergreen short. its honestly if it gets picked up and grouped with other videos in a rabbit hole, it seems, once a short is connected to other popular videos it becomes evergreen. i have one short that hasn't stopped after 16 months or so, and a few others too. its a game of lottery it seems :)

Hey, have you ever faced a period where TH-cam would just not send your shorts in feed anymore? My shorts were assured 2k views, like literally I could post a white screen and I'd get 2k views but my last 5-7 shorts just don't get feed views, daily views have gone from 29k to 50 views only, many people have encountered this issue, I have had this issue on other channels as well. Is this common or are we cursed here? For perspective I got 200k views in my first 20-25 days and I usually get a retention of 90-105%.
Almost all of my shorts get a few hundred to thousands of views for the first hour. Then never again doesn’t matter how good my retention is, the like to dislike ratio, how many comments, or anything. I’ve had shorts with 200% retention and it still died at 1 hour
There is a conflict of interest here. You don't want to say anything to YT that might cause your channel to be shadow-banned. I discovered something yesterday that confirms shadow-banning, perhaps for nefarious reasons. I will explain that once I have got one other thing out of the way. This is what I call punish-banned. This means you have made a mistake. Your channel doesn't go down to zero views, but it has been limited. Unfortunately, YT doesn't tell you what you've done wrong, and also assumes ill-motive from the content creator. If you are new, it is easy to make an error. I made one after actually asking one of the guys doing these YT expert channel. He told me it was fine to do it (reupload). I got punish-banned. I would prefer a mature attitude from YT. It must be possible to arrange AI to tell a person they have broken a rule and what it is. I would then apologise and immediately make the necessary correction. The second is true shadow-banning. I would be very interested to know if those of us who have had this sudden zero (or a tiny number) happen to us when our channel was growing all share similar opinions. The answer to suspicions about shadow-banning is to humiliate the content creator. We are so stupid we don't realise that to have a successful channel we must make good quality videos, targeted to our proposed audience. So, if your channel suddenly drops off it is your fault for putting out a low-quality video. This can be challenged when the same video that got 3 views on YT performed as expected on another platform. Then yesterday, YT accidentally confirmed that they limit views on videos when the video has not contravened the community guidelines. I uploaded a video and up popped "checks". This means: "We'll check your video for issues that may restrict it's visibility." What are these "issues that may restrict...visibility"? There is no breach of the community guidelines or the video would be punish-banned or receive a strike/ have the video taken down. This is crystal clear. A content creator can have their video restricted because...why? This is not stated. TY is _by their own admission_ making decisions about the contents of a video that can cause them to restrict the views on it without any explanation, or breach of community guidelines. I'm sure I don't have to tell anyone who have had their videos limited sometimes to zero that YT is militantly WOKE. Did you catch the "questionnaire" they did a short while ago? It was clear that they wanted to promote content creators who fall within a WOKE target groups. It is not as if this hasn't happened before. Twitter has been rigged against non-WOKE people for years. I have no time for the current profiteering incarnation of Twitter, but the point is there really is a problem with social media if you are not in line with the narrative. You must surely realise that there is a serious problem with YT here? But you didn't examine the matter. Morally, you should have either risked your channel by examining the matter properly, or just kept quiet.
Wow, I finally found a sensible comment among all this rubbish. Yeah, unfortunately TH-cam is not a good place. But not just TH-cam, other social networks too. I feel it more here because I am (or at least have been) a long-form content creator. VidIQ doesn't talk about the real problems of TH-cam, it bases all its videos on stereotypes and clichés, which lead nowhere. It doesn't address the most serious discussions, it refuses to understand that the number of views is not a reliable indicator for the performance of videos. The most absurd thing here is scrolling through the comments: people seem hypnotized by the nonsense they tell. This channel simply makes money by making fun of your disappointment, and it spreads misinformation and insecurity about this platform. They have uploaded more than 1,000 videos, all of which can be summed up with simple clichés and things that you could have figured out on your own. I don't trust VidIQ, and I trust TH-cam even less. Just for example, TH-cam says shadowban doesn't exist, but that doesn't seem to be true. VidIQ says shadowban exists if you do or write certain things, but they don't show the evidence to prove it. All I know, as a creator, is that the number of views almost never reflects the quality of the videos. But you don't have to be a genius to understand it. I got almost 20k views on the videos where I put less effort into, and 50 on the ones where I worked on it for months. I got a lot of views just through suggested videos. Then, all of a sudden, TH-cam completely stopped suggesting all my videos overnight. I used to get around 500-600 views every day, but from then I started getting between 0 and 20. It's been almost a year now, and I still haven't recovered. I have never gotten EVEN A SINGLE VIEW from the suggested videos since that day in January 2023. If you look at my graphs in TH-cam Studio they are just ridiculous. You would see a line that grows, grows, grows some more, and then suddenly collapses to 0 and never recovers. “It's all your fault” people here would say. Nothing could be further from the truth. My content was already uploaded (by me) to another platform and there is a huge difference in the number of views. I don't know if my channel is shadowbanned, but the behavior of TH-cam, vidIQ, and most people here is just absurd. “If you don't get views, the audience doesn't like your video.” Oh sure, one of my videos has been viewed by 10 people in the last 2 months. So, if 10 people didn't like the video (apparently, that's what the algorithm decided), it doesn't deserve to be seen by anyone else forever. What a ridiculous mentality. TH-cam should always give a basic number of impressions for each video, otherwise some end up in the void even if they are valid. And I'm not saying my content is excellent, I'm just saying that the viewer flow is unrealistic and is blatantly manipulated by the algorithm. Regarding "issues that could limit visibility", I believe it refers only to Copyright claims that could affect the video, and this is well known. But when you notice drastic and sudden drops in views it's obvious that something is wrong. TH-cam is not transparent about this, it places the blame on the viewers, and not on an algorithm that suddenly stops showing your video as before. And then, if you are not a partner of the TH-cam program, you can't even receive assistance. They literally don't give a damn about your opinion. You can visit the help center, where they mark each question as duplicate and redirect you with links to other posts that don't answer your concerns. I think that the power to change things depends on us, little users. After all, it's only thanks to us that TH-cam is what it is. Maybe we should all start to at least realize how this platform operates, but it is still too premature. People are too naive here, unrealistically naive.
This must occur with long form videos as well and logically it makes sense. Any video, no matter what it is, will always be shared initially. It's worth it for youtube to take an initial risk on your video by pushing it. After all you could be a no name channel uploading something that millions of people would watch start to finish, so youtube will always initially share your video to see how it shakes out. However once it's clear your video sucks, then youtube stops sharing it and the only way you will get further views is if people manually seek the video out in search or otherwise. So the solution is to sweat and git good. If you aren't making youtube your full time job and pouring hundreds of hours into editors or if you aren't a super hot woman just give it up.
My short got 10k views but suddently stopped getting views. It has only 22% swipe away, 94% average watch time and 95% likes. can someone explain me why youtube algo made that decision with such great stats ?

For me, they always get around 1-3k views instantly after like 6 hours of being posted. And then the views stop. The 1-3k views I get are spread over a time of 1 hour. I always see this pattern in my analytics

The nice thing about Shorts is that when TH-cam finally does find your audience, whether it takes a day or a year, they often go back and re-suggest your older posts to your new found audience. So Never Give up on a short! Even the ones that plateau at a couple thousand views could get millions one day once TH-cam finds the right audience for your account. I saw this happen to all of my first shorts.

Shorts still work really great for me on my second channel. I mean, I am just small content creator and I work really hard (I also use a little bit of famester, but that's a necessity nowadays). I just give all my videos small initial boost, and that caused them to spread literally everywhere, bringing more and more organic views day after day.

I think something that needs to be genuinely addressed by youtube is how people can go from getting consistent views with every upload to LITERALLY 0 views not like their views declined or anything like some people here are stating, no the fact that you can go from getting thousands of views per video to youtube not showing your video to literally anyone its really hard to tell what you're doing wrong when you don't even have analytics to look at, it's really discouraging to new creators such as myself
It’s because TH-cam suddenly stops showing videos in suggestions and searches. This is how channels die, like mine. I'm tired of hearing BS like “you're not getting views = you need to improve your content” because that's simply not true. Viewers don't really decide what to watch, TH-cam does, manipulating the success of videos through statistics it misinterprets.

The only thing I can think that could have caused it is the fact that I tried to make a little bit more of an effort on one of my posts; unfortunately effort is very often not rewarded and its the simple stuff that gets eaten up. Perhaps for some reason my extra effort threw off the algorithm.
This clears up a lot. I've only started doing shorts earlier this year. And I didn't really understand it. I saw that a lot of my shorts would get hundreds or a few thousands of views and then stop. But I considered that a success as a small channel. I had one short that blew up in popularity (relatively, for my channel) and is still get consistent views. Still, I get plenty of new subscibers from the shorts even if they suddenly drop off in views. A bunch of them unsub within a day or so, but it's still growing my channel nicely. I'll try timing them better and see if that works!
I don't think a channel should be flagged as spam "and for good reason" for reuploading a video with one view only to see it immediately get hundreds of views. I think that is somebody finding a solution to an obvious problem with TH-cam's algorithm. And yes, I mean algorithm this time, not audience. Also, if only one person saw it before, how could that be spam? Who is getting spammed?
This isn't something I've done because I'm generally happy with my Shorts performance, and if they don't perform well, I always know it's because it just wasn't good enough. But it's not something I would be against at all if I actually cared a tremendous amount and was getting no views.
I have this problem with my main account. I don't think it's the audience, since there is no audience... is like, how is supposed the video is not of interest to people of the video is not being shown to them? Some other things are adding subtitles, make them grab a viewers attention right from the beginning, don't make them any longer than they need to be, and try to make the end loop smoothly back to the beginning.

This is good insight. I am also small content creator with mainly some faceless content, and I started posting bunch of Shorts lately. The thing that worked best for me was giving my videos a initial dose of views and likes on fames ter. This caused them to spread everywhere literally, bringing more and more organic views day after day.

My shorts get around 70% to 80% percentage viewed and almost 100% average view duration. But stuck at 10k. I don’t know what TH-cam wants

Shorts have been frustrating for big channels too. I put the same shorts on Instagram and TH-cam at the same time and the Instagram videos go viral fast whereas the TH-cam shorts take an entire month or more to gain momentum. Would love some advice to know what I’m doing wrong.
I think bc IG pushes your reels better. That’s what that platform basically is. Your audience is there and not on TH-cam shorts. I still believe TH-cam shorts are a channel killer and TH-cam doesn’t want to admit it. They keep pushing it and the payout is pennies. 115k views on one short and it made me almost 45 cents. Thank you for this. I literally just started putting out shorts last week and I’ve had a few that just took off, got over 1,000 views and them bam, flatline. I thought maybe I wasn’t doing something right or was hoping maybe the algorithm would maybe try putting it out there again later.
When TH-cam tests your shorts with a seed audience, the audience should be people who have watched similar videos. Surely, they have the data from viewers to set that up. If the initial seed audience for a short is simply a random selection of people then the likelihood of the short succeeding is obviously greatly reduced. TH-cam has tons of data on their viewers and content creators. It doesn't sound like it's being used in a beneficial way at all. So much for technology.

Only thing I would take issue with is the advice to “do what works for others/what’s trending and popular. Personally I’m sick of hearing the same trending music over and over and over and over and over again on Instagram. It starts to become all the same.
I say, take the non-trend road and do YOU. In the end, it’s you and your uniqueness that people will stick around for, not trending music, templates, soundbites, etc.

I got 200K views on shorts in 20 days and then bam 40 views per day, I was averaging 29k views per day from shorts. Idk what happened but TH-cam just doesn't send Shorts in feed now, this happened to a lot of other creators. I still haven't started making the content that I initially planned to make but I think TH-cam algo still needs improvement, I have shorts that were sent to literally 2 people and then it just stopped, 100% watch rate 145% retention but to no avail. Once I had a short horribly tank, I was kinda sad, but I didnt wanted to let that make me feel bad, so I went and made another one the next week to see if that could improve. After I finished that, I linked the previous short in the comments, now both have over 600K views when back then the first one barely passed 1000 views in the first week. I noticed Disney uploaded a video related to my new short, and that started driving trafic to it driving trafic to my next link, so dont give up in that short, try to see how you can drive attention to it!

Let me add one thing, sorry for my bad English. The posting time, in my case, is not that important. What happened to me is that when one or two shorts started working (posting something that also attracted and responded to audience searches) the other shorts, already pubblished in my channel, had started working too, as if TH-cam had identified me as a quality creator of shorts and perhaps because shorts have been offered to the same public. So it is important to find coherence between the shorts, in content, style and a duration that is not too long (30 sec)

This is a great explanation. I just passed my one-year anniversary on TH-cam and have made almost 900 Shorts. Early on I did about as many per day as I could do. Now I'm doing two a day. I've seen the views die off on most of them as you describe. But every once and a while I get one that takes off. My most popular video received about 1 million views in the first 20 or so days. Then, BOOM, it really took off. I've studied the video and have tried to replicate it. Sometimes I come close but there is a uniqueness in it that grabs the viewer. My swipe away percentage is fairly low for it. For those just starting out, find something you like to do and do it often. It took me about 3 months to see much success. Then, 6 months in I had my Silver play button. TH-cam has been good to me but it has taken time and effort. Good luck to all!

They are really not kidding about "don't re-upload" I noticed I made a major editing mistake and missed it some how after uploading. It was still private and waiting to be published so I deleted it and re-uploaded. It got into feeds 0 times and was seen 0 times in the 24hrs after it got published. They should make an exception for unpublished videos, especially if it's reuploaded with edits,(could tell by the length) because it's not an attempt to subvert the algorithm if the algo hasn't been allowed to touch it yet.
Experience has shown me that a short with zero views can be deleted sometimes and then re-uploaded and suddenly gets a few thousand views.
There are 50 billion views a day on youtube shorts. The problem is the Seed concept and the algorithm are flawed logically

The short bump also happened to one of my video, I got 300 views in a day and it just stopped growing but I will try these tips and upload my next short
This is honestly a perfect explanation of what's going on, I post a short (not on this channel), and it goes gangbusters usually overnight owing to different time zones. I might tweak the search key words to give it a bit of a boost, but inevitably, engagement tapers off within about an hour of that initial jump. Out of over 100 shorts, only 1 gives me consistent growth in terms of views, and even then, my channel is still susceptible to the "NO DATA" message. But it keeps me interested in producing content.

its because youtube limits people to max 10k before i deleted my old shorts i had over 80 all stuck at 10k didn't matter how fast they go when they reached 10k they stopped abruptly its very obvious there is a limit videos dont stop just randomly at 10k everytime
@@Mizai absolutely agreed..!! no consistency is required, no fooking hooks.. i uploaded 83 videos in 22 days.. never got more than 100 views.. the reach was extremely even after my videos had maximum retention graph. Then i stopped uploading videos for 8 days.. 8 days later i uploaded 2 videos, with same tags and description.. both in same niche... but 1 of them got 3.3k views within 22 hours and the other is stuck at 100.
TH-cam unintentionally (or intentionally) killed our channel (or at least stunted us) with shorts.
We have 57,000 subscribers and get like 3-5k views on videos. EVEN with a 11% clickthrough and 70% watch through.
Our shorts BLEW UP when we were told to post shorts, our content has alway been long form first and high quality.
the shorts that exploded were random excerpts form our long for stuff and unfortunately appears to have given us a bad seed.
My short got 2.6 million views in two months and then the views completely stopped. Its been at 2.6M for two weeks now.
Is TH-cam all about luck? !!!!! It's truly a missed opportunity when your TH-cam shorts don't connect with the perfect seed audience.
Through my experience its odd though, recently had a video with high drop off but also good engagement compared to channel average. Suppose it just hit really will with seed audiences but underperformed with a brauder scope.

Wow, good to know! I was wondering how shorts work. I've always noticed a spike in views after around 6 hours, sometimes more, and then the views stop. It means the algorithm didn't find my target audience, but I'm okay with that :) I hope someday it will change. Keep grinding, my friends!

Another problem originating from TH-cam and not content creators is the appallingly inadequate category choices.
Great video ! Here's what I still don't understand, let me give you a case study :
-> Short did well in the beggining, like you explain in your video, reaching 400k views in about 10 days
-> Short currently stands at an overall 78% View Duration, flatline retention graph all the way through the end , 66.3% average view to swipe away ratio.
So essentially this is a short with a strong hook at over 100% retention for the first 10 seconds, with close to 70% View to Swipe ratio and yet it hasn"t seen any views for the past month (about 50 views/day).
That's what I don't understand. According to your points , this short would be a good candidate to throw a couple millions more views at it , until those retention and swipe away numbers go way down and TH-cam goes "Welp, guess I can't find any more new people to like this". Why is it stopping now with these great analytics ?

I think the biggest problem of shorts is that until you have a main audience it's a hit or miss with them as they just send out shorts to completely random people.
If they do not like the first few seconds they are going to swipe away.
So they have to be appealing to as wide as an audience essentially if you are looking to grow(which is also a problem, as wide appeal is boring).
They are a great promotion tool though for finding some people that could be interested in your videos out of a random audience. Think of shorts as advert on tv.

Based on what a lot of other channels have tested:
Either you are a complete shorts channel, that only does shorts as a product or you use them as sneak peak advertising for your channel to get people to maybe one day watch your long form product.

I had 4 straight months of 1-4K views and my channel grew steadily well (different channel) then all of a sudden, the same similar content, same schedule, and same ideas all just stopped getting views. I’m now averaging 30-50 views per video when that used to be my total after a few minutes. I truly don’t understand

Doesn't explain what happened to my channel. My specific case is that YT found my audience after like 8 months, it started pushing my content to it. But then suddenly stopped. What happened? Do they need to re-discover who I am, what's my niche and who my audience is? And no it's not the content is bad, cuz the same content performs pretty well on the other platforms. I didn't violate anything. It just stopped showing my content to my target audience. And I really don't know what to do about it.

Well, I'll comment again, because I can't stand when other people's opinions are silenced for no reason.
My comment, which also got a few likes, was similar to this:
"A similar thing happened to me but with long videos. TH-cam completely stopped suggesting them all at once at the same time and my channel died. My views dropped from 500 a day to 10, and this has nothing to do with the quality of the videos. I don't think it's due to "bad content" because I improved the thumbnails a lot, CTR and AVD are also way better than previous ones.

This is fascinating to hear. I've been casually growing my family's YT channel for a while, and I've seen the "shorts surge" every single time I post... although the # of views in each shorts surge has grown over time as I get better at what I post and have more interesting content, better titles, etc. Every time I hit a new milestone, it seems to gather momentum overall... and now, I'm in a new area, because I have a short that has hit a "wave" of exploitation (I guess you could call it) and I'm just riding the wave, attempting to capitalize on it when possible! :-)

Explain how I had a short that was 5 weeks old with 2100 views then yt pushed it for another 3k views.
after making 6k shorts i can tell you that its a random chance if a good video becomes evergreen but every few hundred or so i get an evergreen short. its honestly if it gets picked up and grouped with other videos in a rabbit hole, it seems, once a short is connected to other popular videos it becomes evergreen. i have one short that hasn't stopped after 16 months or so, and a few others too. its a game of lottery it seems :)

Hey, have you ever faced a period where TH-cam would just not send your shorts in feed anymore? My shorts were assured 2k views, like literally I could post a white screen and I'd get 2k views but my last 5-7 shorts just don't get feed views, daily views have gone from 29k to 50 views only, many people have encountered this issue, I have had this issue on other channels as well. Is this common or are we cursed here? For perspective I got 200k views in my first 20-25 days and I usually get a retention of 90-105%.
Almost all of my shorts get a few hundred to thousands of views for the first hour. Then never again doesn’t matter how good my retention is, the like to dislike ratio, how many comments, or anything. I’ve had shorts with 200% retention and it still died at 1 hour

There is a conflict of interest here. You don't want to say anything to YT that might cause your channel to be shadow-banned. I discovered something yesterday that confirms shadow-banning, perhaps for nefarious reasons. I will explain that once I have got one other thing out of the way. This is what I call punish-banned. This means you have made a mistake. Your channel doesn't go down to zero views, but it has been limited. Unfortunately, YT doesn't tell you what you've done wrong, and also assumes ill-motive from the content creator. If you are new, it is easy to make an error. I made one after actually asking one of the guys doing these YT expert channel. He told me it was fine to do it (reupload). I got punish-banned. I would prefer a mature attitude from YT. It must be possible to arrange AI to tell a person they have broken a rule and what it is. I would then apologise and immediately make the necessary correction.
The second is true shadow-banning. I would be very interested to know if those of us who have had this sudden zero (or a tiny number) happen to us when our channel was growing all share similar opinions.
The answer to suspicions about shadow-banning is to humiliate the content creator. We are so stupid we don't realise that to have a successful channel we must make good quality videos, targeted to our proposed audience.
So, if your channel suddenly drops off it is your fault for putting out a low-quality video.
This can be challenged when the same video that got 3 views on YT performed as expected on another platform.
Then yesterday, YT accidentally confirmed that they limit views on videos when the video has not contravened the community guidelines. I uploaded a video and up popped "checks". This means:
"We'll check your video for issues that may restrict it's visibility."
What are these "issues that may restrict...visibility"?
There is no breach of the community guidelines or the video would be punish-banned or receive a strike/ have the video taken down.
This is crystal clear. A content creator can have their video restricted because...why? This is not stated.
TY is _by their own admission_ making decisions about the contents of a video that can cause them to restrict the views on it without any explanation, or breach of community guidelines.
I'm sure I don't have to tell anyone who have had their videos limited sometimes to zero that YT is militantly WOKE. Did you catch the "questionnaire" they did a short while ago? It was clear that they wanted to promote content creators who fall within a WOKE target groups.
It is not as if this hasn't happened before. Twitter has been rigged against non-WOKE people for years. I have no time for the current profiteering incarnation of Twitter, but the point is there really is a problem with social media if you are not in line with the narrative.

Yeah, unfortunately TH-cam is not a good place. But not just TH-cam, other social networks too. I feel it more here because I am (or at least have been) a long-form content creator.
VidIQ doesn't talk about the real problems of TH-cam, it bases all its videos on stereotypes and clichés, which lead nowhere. It doesn't address the most serious discussions, it refuses to understand that the number of views is not a reliable indicator for the performance of videos. The most absurd thing here is scrolling through the comments: people seem hypnotized by the nonsense they tell. This channel simply makes money by making fun of your disappointment, and it spreads misinformation and insecurity about this platform. They have uploaded more than 1,000 videos, all of which can be summed up with simple clichés and things that you could have figured out on your own.
I don't trust VidIQ, and I trust TH-cam even less.
Just for example, TH-cam says shadowban doesn't exist, but that doesn't seem to be true.
VidIQ says shadowban exists if you do or write certain things, but they don't show the evidence to prove it.
All I know, as a creator, is that the number of views almost never reflects the quality of the videos. But you don't have to be a genius to understand it. I got almost 20k views on the videos where I put less effort into, and 50 on the ones where I worked on it for months.
I got a lot of views just through suggested videos. Then, all of a sudden, TH-cam completely stopped suggesting all my videos overnight. I used to get around 500-600 views every day, but from then I started getting between 0 and 20. It's been almost a year now, and I still haven't recovered.
I have never gotten EVEN A SINGLE VIEW from the suggested videos since that day in January 2023.
If you look at my graphs in TH-cam Studio they are just ridiculous. You would see a line that grows, grows, grows some more, and then suddenly collapses to 0 and never recovers.
“It's all your fault” people here would say. Nothing could be further from the truth. My content was already uploaded (by me) to another platform and there is a huge difference in the number of views.
I don't know if my channel is shadowbanned, but the behavior of TH-cam, vidIQ, and most people here is just absurd. “If you don't get views, the audience doesn't like your video.” Oh sure, one of my videos has been viewed by 10 people in the last 2 months. So, if 10 people didn't like the video (apparently, that's what the algorithm decided), it doesn't deserve to be seen by anyone else forever. What a ridiculous mentality.
TH-cam should always give a basic number of impressions for each video, otherwise some end up in the void even if they are valid.
And I'm not saying my content is excellent, I'm just saying that the viewer flow is unrealistic and is blatantly manipulated by the algorithm.
Regarding "issues that could limit visibility", I believe it refers only to Copyright claims that could affect the video, and this is well known.
But when you notice drastic and sudden drops in views it's obvious that something is wrong.
TH-cam is not transparent about this, it places the blame on the viewers, and not on an algorithm that suddenly stops showing your video as before. And then, if you are not a partner of the TH-cam program, you can't even receive assistance. They literally don't give a damn about your opinion. You can visit the help center, where they mark each question as duplicate and redirect you with links to other posts that don't answer your concerns.
I think that the power to change things depends on us, little users. After all, it's only thanks to us that TH-cam is what it is. Maybe we should all start to at least realize how this platform operates, but it is still too premature. People are too naive here, unrealistically naive.
This must occur with long form videos as well and logically it makes sense. Any video, no matter what it is, will always be shared initially. It's worth it for youtube to take an initial risk on your video by pushing it. After all you could be a no name channel uploading something that millions of people would watch start to finish, so youtube will always initially share your video to see how it shakes out. However once it's clear your video sucks, then youtube stops sharing it and the only way you will get further views is if people manually seek the video out in search or otherwise. So the solution is to sweat and git good. If you aren't making youtube your full time job and pouring hundreds of hours into editors or if you aren't a super hot woman just give it up.
