I know what you mean brother. I met Warrel Dane, seriously he was the nicest, most down to earth and respectful guy ever and on top of that an elite legendary metal vocalist. Now he's resting with the gods and jamming with Alexi Lahio from Children of Bodom. RIP.🤘
When I was younger I considered Jeff the god of solo guitar, but now listening to nevermore after so many years, Jeff is not only the king of solos but riffs as well. Literally every riff this guy has made is gold and NO band has come even close in my opinion. A true musician , and a wonderful human being. My dream is to meet this man in person and bow on the floor before him lbs.
Man, I miss Nevermore more with each passing year. Would kill for Jeff Loomis to pick up a killer power or death metal vocalist and start up another project that's actually his brainchild and full of his riffs. Someone hook this dude up with Morean from Alkaloid or something.
Warrel Dane was never a power metal vocalist. He was a theatrical performance artist, which is what gave him a uniqueness. In my opinion, he was the most unique metal vocalist to ever live.
It was Jeff and more importantly Warrel Dane that made Nevermore Nevermore. He could do wide operatic vocals that I haven't heard from any other band yet. Evergrey(Tom) is also different in this regard along with Orphaned Land(Kobi). These bands all have respected vocalists that distinguish them from the others in their genre.
In slow speed it REEAAALY reminds me of "older" devin townsend stuff like earth day, suicide, deadhead and songs like that. Crazy. Heard born nearly 1000 times in my life, as nevermore (and warrel dane related stuff) is my favorite band(s) and never noticed that.
Didn't Jeff leave Jackson a couple years back because he wanted to play more of his guitar collection live and couldn't because he had to play Jacksons live because of his endorsement?
@@9hk38f oh shit you're right, I already completely forgot he was with schecter haha I guess I've always thought of him as a jackson player from his earlier days
Bringing signature artists on to the show is the BEST way to share knowledge. Best places to learn from are the people out there doing the thing we all want to be doing!
Interesting stuff on the picking hand. "Sped up just a little bit" 1:27 Down Up Down, Down Up Down on the descending notes across 3 strings, then Down Down (double down) at the beginning of the scalar stuff. Just play that part at 0.25x speed and look patiently. Same thing at full speed at 1:55. Double Down at ~125 BPM 16th notes is impressive, plus sounds pretty good and clean imo. Album is 127 BPM
This is a killer picking exercise at tempo, I've been using it since the album came out. This really forces you to focus on muting and precise picking.
Haha thanks Robert! It’s so annoying being lefty when you run a studio because all of my nice guitars are right handed for people to play. This tele gets me by but I need a nice 7. Maybe that Jason richardson model. Jeff’s latest model doesn’t come in lefty I think😩 -Miami
@@joeymusic Know this is a bit late, but have you considered doing what Hendrix did and just restringing and setting up a right handed guitar so it suits being a lefty? If there are reasons why you've not done this, that's fair enough (I'm a righty and not hugely familiar with the details of guitar construction, so there is almost certainly stuff I'm not aware of about doing this), just was wondering if you've ever considered that idea?
Dude, you’re a lefty guitarist like me!! You know my struggle lol…we go into guitar shops and if they even have a lefty in the store it’s some dusty fender squire kept in the back room behind the cleaning supplies 😂. In my 33 years of guitar playing, I’ve probably only gotten to physically play on maybe 20 or so lefty guitars. I’m loving the channel especially the bits with Jeff Loomis. One of my all time favorite guitar players. Glad to see you recognizing his genius as well my friend. I am subscribed!
to think that Andy came up with the idea to "make it major", yeah, self produced is cool but having another set of ears, better yet, experienced, can go a long way.
Still one of THE best "verse - chorus" songs ever. Who the fuck thinks "let's make the chorus part the most intricate section of the song"?! R.I.P. Warrel. Hope Jeff makes another Conquering Dystopia or solo record, while Amott keeps him imprisoned in Arch Enemy!
Good old Jeff, trying to put Diminished everywhere :D Also, I don't know why you think you need a 7th string to play this. Jeff never touched the low B for the arpeggio section itself.
The man ☝️
We need jeef loomis on 4 levels of death metal 🤷♂️

This Godless Endeavor is one of the best metal albums of all time. It's sad that they split and Warrel Dane died so young.
Imagine actually writing a vocal melody with a harmony over that crazy arpeggio riff haha. Rest in Power, Warrel
