    I've been watching this channel for a few months now and I have come to realize I have been screwing-up for the past 50 years! I bought the books. They are great. I bought and did the course. Worth every cent I paid and more. Now I have a plan. It will take me all winter to implement the improvements but I think I am on my way!
    Thank you, Jeff!

    Man you are the goat when it comes to deer hunting and land plotting. My wife and I both watch you often. In addition when you add the different videos where you see the parcels it actually creates a very peaceful evening for my wife and I to watch. You are a an example of being the best in your business.

    Man, I have to say. I turned my little 18 acre parcel into a mega buck spot in a year. Bought the raw land. Watched 2600 of your videos. Did what I could from 1200 miles away. Had action all season and shot a pot belly big racker. I’m only about half way done implementing your principles but man it is working. Thanks for not being selfish with your experience.

Well, I got him at the last minute of the evening. By Texas standards, he’s a beauty. You and the guys at The Hunting Public have kept me motivated and it paid off. Keep up the good work!

    I put my first food plot in back in 1997 Jeff and I've put everything in from corn to clover ,chicory ,alfalfa ect and I feel I'm pretty knowledgeable but my success has increased since watching you the last few years Jeff , my winter rye plots have been amazing low pressure getting in and out clean and I can literally shoot deer every night just tonight my daughter and I could have shot 1 buck and 5 doe tonight last week every night 10-15 deer I've had great success with brassicas ,winter rye ,good cover and corn .this has been my best late season I've ever had .

    One of your best videos...and you have many great ones. Solid excellent advice here. We’ve been managing our personal 35 acres like this for over 10 years. High hunting pressure area and the deer just pour in as the season progresses. Hunters across the road will say they have not seen a deer for days and we are absolutely loaded up every night behind the house. It’s very true tho...a lot of work and patience...but very rewarding. Great work Jeff.

    Thanks for all the tips and sharing of knowledge Jeff. I have to hunt from the ground (lack of equipment), and the areas I hunt are very, very small parcels (20 to 40 acres). Both areas have bedding/travel corridors & access to fields (recently harvested beans & crp). I'm hoping this knowledge for late season can not only help me nab a second doe this year...but my first ever buck too.
    Thanks for all you do!

    Jeff me and you talked about the ATV subject years ago, and i told you i was using a electric golf cart. This is my second year of totally not using ATV during hunting season and i have literally tripled
    my buck count on this piece of property. And i have actually drove up to one of my cameras with the electric cart replaced card and a mature buck walked by 15 mins after i drove off. And if you remember my land is in a urban setting with lots different types of noise, but like we discuss bucks can recognize a intruding noise that is different. stealth is key to big bucks..

    I have learned a lot from watching your videos. I find them indispensable for tips vs. myths, and I appreciate how you confirm what I have thought a long time about all the gadgets and superstitious products that simply create hype and spending $ rather than time spent developing skill. Your advice about scent control in/out of stands, ATVs, etc, are hard to argue with. However, I can't help thinking that some aspects of your Method apply mostly to landowners who have a lot of time and money (more than the average hunter) to spend all year perfecting food plottery and all the minutiae involved in habitat grooming -- though I am certain you correct about all that.
    It just seems to me that your channel is really aimed at 1 narrow audience of hunters -- the kind of wealthy guys who hire you to design an intensive year-long program of constant maintenance, which as you say, is really the norm for successful deer hunting OF THIS TYPE. You seem to say there are 2 types of hunting: private (your type) and public. But aren't there many different types of property out there, and types that you don't really address? I talk to lots of successful hunters who take monsters year after year, and multiple monster bucks annually. And they tell me the same thing -- they don't "hunt the wind." Why? Because we are mountaineers, hunting mountain deer in the Ozarks. We own or hunt on private land as well as public, but our terrain only swirls the wind -- I have basically 70 acres of drainage with N and S slopes converging in the middle of a creek, with only a couple of small benches but no flat areas or pastures. My friends hunt similar terrain, yet I am striving to learn their secrets of bagging huge bucks.
    Our work commitments demand that we hunt simply when we can get time off, not when optimal conditions prevail. I agree with all your advice about trying to set up your career so that you can hunt during the most propitious times of the season and so on, but a lot of us do not have the leverage to do that at work. I am lucky to own any property at all, extremely fortunate, but I could only afford a parcel like this which is less than ideal, and in windows of opportunity from work that are less than ideal. If you wait until everything is perfect, or at least optimal in my case, then you will be waiting forever (you will simply not hunt at all), because lining up all those factors and moving parts is not possible for the average hunter.
    So why should I complain? Your channel does an excellent job of addressing the factors for a certain Land Lord type of hunting (and even certain types of public land). I still get lots of useful tips from you, and I thank you heartily for it. It just seems that you are talking as if your advice applies to every income and every type of terrain, which in reality there are so many different types of hunting besides meticulous (obsessive and expensive) habitat maintenance. Surely this is not the only way to hunt, though I guess if you have the money and the time, your Method would be the proper way. I would just like to see an occasional departure episode on your channel, and maybe a wider acknowledgment, about different types of hunting, different types of land and terrain, and different factors that demand different techniques. But again, I admit that you are the Master of your own Method presented here. I just won't ever be the wealthy type of guy (money- or time- wise) who can conform to all your standards. It's not a 1-size fits all. And my friends who routinely take monsters in my Ozarks region can testify to that. (Okay, you say, then go watch channels about that. I do! And I watch yours. It's great. I just think you might broaden out a bit sometimes along these lines.)

    Hello Jeff, first off thanks again for your time and knowledge. I'm sure it's not easy with the busy lifestyle we lead. I have a small parcel behind my house that I hunt which recently this year I took my bait pile and moved it from my grass field into the thicket / low growth about 20 yards and cleared a 10yrd by 10yrd circle. Since I did that and didn't put bait out until September all that was coming into my bait was small bucks and NO does? Normally it was all does and some bucks at night. Just thought it was a coincidence since I seen your video? Now I'm seeing more does and one core buck that comes in faithfully right at dark. I call him half rack cause one side broke off around rut time, he's around 2 year old. We only hunted it about 4 times and taken 2 does but my son spooked a doe when he shot the other doe. So that was a month ago and we haven't been in there since only to replenish the bait. Sorry so long but this video kinda answered a couple questions I had and gave me some pointers. Thanks again!

    The ATV thing has been interesting for us. Last couple years not much success by walking in to our stands. This summer and fall we used an ATV to bait the stands regularly. Now it seems that the deer recognize the sound because within hours of passing through they will come out. I harvested a nice 8 pointer two days ago while my Polaris Ranger was parked 30 yards from him. Also harvested a large doe while an ATV was parked about 60 yards away.
    I'm on the fence overall, I can't see how ATVs help but I'm also not sure that they are hurting. We had our best season so far, almost tagged out on 5 tags. We're on 100 acres of big timber in the Muskoka region of Ontario.

    Secondly, this has to do with recovering deer. If you shoot a deer right at first light, are you still waiting till dark for retrieval?
    Thanks and keep up the great work!

    Hey Jeff! Watching another old video! Awesome, quick question, deer are not ony property, but they are right next to it by the corn fields. Question Jeff. For a person who hunts only permission property and is not able to do food plots. Can scattered corn serve as the daily afternoon feeding if left completely un pressured? It’s what I’ve done for the last few years with pretty good success. But I’m assuming a green food source would be much better for the afternoon feeding. But would you place more importance on me leaving the corn completely un pressured and waiting on those high percentage whether days to hunt? Rather than having the perfect green food source? This is NC where baiting is legal of course.

  • @WhitetailVigilantes
    @WhitetailVigilantes 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Jeff, I've watched a lot of your videos. Your confidence is great, but it brings a deal if arrogance with it. I'm from eastern PA and I truly can't name a single property where your methods would work. The properties just aren't setup that way here. You can't have morning/evening stands. You can't have different access points. The property I hunt has 1 access point, and you will spook deer every single morning or every evening when you leave. Believe me, I wish it was different. But any large tract of land that could possibly follow your techniques has been completely cleared for farmland.

    Jeff, thanks for the content, I have followed you for some time and truly appreciate all you info and knowledge. Quick question for you or any of your subs.....access is a bit of a challenge on our parcel. To get to stands, we have to access thru the heart of the woods, pretty deep in. Depending on the stand choice, our hike in is 1-1.5 miles, and a good 40 min+ walk. Unless the ground is wet, it sounds like I’m walking in, on bags of potato chips. We’ve learned many of the bedding areas, and try to avoid as best as possible, but entry and exits occasionally involve bumping a deer or two, we never use ATV’s after Sept. 1st. Lots of walking. With that said, I really like your electric bike, however I think an E-side by side will probably be my route. I am curious if I use it to get close to my stands, will it spook any more deer than me walking in. I am thinking it may even be less stressful on the herd. Just not sure, and would like to get some feedback. The E-side by sides are super quite, but still will crunch leaves just like walking...?

      Smog I grew up in Upstate. There are many types of food near state land in CNY. Check out Highland forest and Shackham state forest (SW of Fabius) Many farms located near these areas along with many other vegetation the deer feed on. I have seen so many deer feed on brier bush leaves. It’s funny to watch one get a thorn in their mouth. I feel many of his videos apply across the nation.

    I hunt shotgun area in West Central MN which is highly agricultural land. We grow some sweet corn for the family and rotate it on some land. I’m wondering what would be a good fall food source crop that I could rotate with the sweet corn that would be a late season food for deer?

      HibJeff, now isn't a bad time but you may not get immediate results? Really depends on where the bucks are at right now. Not a bad time either because you really shouldn't spook much...or at least it isn't a critical time.
      Good luck and you are very welcome...I really hope it helps you out on public land 👍

      I watched Jeff’s mock scrape videos last year for late after rifle season December hunts. Even had my 8 year old son create one. They came in at night but had several 2-3 year old bucks add to the scrape. I think it’s a slim chance late in the season, but still possible in the right conditions. Best of luck!!

What should I do differently if the deer really don’t eat the oats? I am in a big ag area and I see them in cut beans and corn more than the green fields. I did cover with rye as well

    Can you make a video reviewing what to do when you get a non-lethal shot on a deer. Just shot my target buck with the slug in NJ and was unable to recover him due to poor shot placement on my part. Tracked him 2 miles and 12 hours after backing out but blood was very minimal and all signs pointed to a muscle shot. Any suggestions on trying to get back on that deer or info on how deer behave after an injury like that? I am feeling terrible about losing the deer and holding onto a hope that i will get a second chance at him. Any advice would be huge.

    Thank you Jeff for all the advice I’ve been watching your channel a couple years now and making steady progress on our 40 acres. Question: if I’ve got all the food and cover and do everything you say, will a mature buck stay on my property if the neighbor drives his atv to his stand less than 150 yards from our property line? He spooked a mature buck opening morning of rifle that hung around all fall and I haven’t seen him since.

    • @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
      @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There sure is! But you have to designate the full whitetail plan first, and then fit the timber plan within the deer plan 2nd. Keep in mind the higher the timber value the lower the wildlife value as a pretty definitive rule...

    Jeff, is rye my best option for a north facing slope? Worried about limited sun, even with trees removed. I did a 1000sqft test plot this year. One bag of lime but no fert. 50 pounds of cereal rye grain seed layered from mid September to mid November. Got only 4-6” high and not thick. No weeds. Deer not hitting regularly.

    • @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
      @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's really tough, even rye has to have 4-6 of sun per day or it will not grow thick enough. BUT...that is a really small plot...that doesn't help either. It is worth a try to go much larger! At least a 1/2 acre if you can so that you can establish a consistent pattern of use

    My comment made the video!!!! Wish I could send you a pic of a mountain. Their is a difference in an incline and grabbing trees to pull yourself up a true mountain. Come to Eastern Kentucky and see how many days you hunt without an ATV and I have a great deer herd on only a 140 acres that is very steep and hold multiple mature deer on my property during the season due to many of your methods. Cmon don't be so narrow with your recommendations just as different plot mixes must be prescribed so must different access techniques, but you have to be smart about it. As I said come down next season I'll give you an opportunity to hunt a 190 inch deer that I have multiple daylight pics of and you will be begging for an AtV to access where he is after the first day when you don't make it to the stand.
