Today I made this in my kitchen. "As advertised", it is very tasty and I'll be adding it to my next hiking trip. I'm an old enthusiast of instant oatmeal, and "elevating" it with various additions -- both at home and on the trail.
But adding peanut butter and banana chips is sheer genius. Dried cranberries (and/or raisins) are an old staple, and are well advised here.
Another possible addition is some kind of nuts. Walnuts are ideal imo, but possibly sunflower kernels or pecans. However, I know that nuts can cost more, and low cost is one of the video "author's" several priorities. And just adding a bit more peanut butter will be adding the protein that these other nuts would add. But the nuts will add a bit more texture and additional flavor.
In any case, this base recipe is well worth it, and the fact that it is so flexible is one more of its benefits. Thanks much, and Cheers!!! (beer_emoji) 😊

Oatmeals are a great cold soaked breakfast, but why do you put pasta in your thumbnail if this is about oatmeal?

Hi, I do something similar. Oats, peanut butter and a little chocolate protein powder or you could use part of a carnation breakfast packet. Tastes like a peanut butter brownie. My other go to is pina colada oats. Oats, sweetened coconut, unsweetened dehydrated pineapple and a little vanilla protein powder. Options are endless with oats :)

Your body converts carbs (Oats) to sugar in 1.5 hours then your body sees elevated blood sugar, produces insulin to convert that blood sugar into energy. Peanut butter is an exception. Peanut butter enters your bloodstream almost immediately and u get instant energy. Don't know if it's the sugar or small particle size, but when I am feeling sluggish and need energy to make it up that mountain, I put some peanut butter on a bar and I get that sudden energy boost. My go to breakfast is 1 cup Grape Nut Flakes in a freezer bag + 1/4 cup Unsweetened Coconut Flakes + 1/4 cup Blueberries + 1/3 cup NIDO, add water, shake, and instant milk & cereal.

Hey D Thompson, didn’t really mean to give a super specific recipe. I just meant to to be a great base of some spin offs you can use for cold soaking.
If you’re curious here it is
      1-1/2 cups of quick oats
      2 tbsp of peanut butter
Dried cherries and banana chips (choose your amount for desired crunch)
I would say I usually eyeball the water depending on the texture I want, but a cup to a half cup will do just fine.
Hope this was more helpful brotha 👍🏼
