Apparently all that's needed to defeat misogyny and the patriarchy is to not hate men, don't defecate all over the people whose support you need in order to have a job in the first place, and to just be a genuine human being.
Wake me up when the rest of the women working in entertainment and politics figure this out. 🤦‍♂️

When the response to the woke is something like, "we've always liked female (or racial, ethnic, sexual, national, etc) representation, that's already playing into the hands of the political left. The only identity they ultimately give a damn about is that a person or group be of the ideological left too. So-called centrists & conservatives (or JK-Rowling-type liberals) need not apply.

The shill media pumping out paid for puff pieces never understood.... We don't hate the actors.
Kelly aka Rose Tico is by all accounts a bubbly individual without a bad bone in her body... Yet her character was made to deflect Finn away from working with Rey when Finn and Rey shared the 'awakening' as seen in TFA. More so in Finn's case so using Rose to deflect Finn's story away from sharing Rey's and having a lecture on rich people while at the same time putting space horses above the welfare of children resulted in Rose being a wasted character who took up screen time that could have been dedicated to telling a better story.
Speaking of, John aka Finn had his thunder stolen when Disney and Lucasfilm took his co-lead status away when KK and krew decided to focus the main plot on Rey. They also refused to stand up for Boyega in China. Ultimately he was turned into comic relief when the audience wanted to see Boyega play the part of a Storm Trooper who overcame his brainwashing and could elevate himself into a new unknown destiny that was full of promise and potential alongside the few people he considered friends. The audience is still waiting for that story to play out, but the writing team decided the screen time should go to Rey instead.
And thus we come to Rey... Enough has been said about the character that I won't repeat. We all know the problems with Rey. Instead I'll highlight the issue with the character that ultimately killed any interest in her moving forward and that's announcing she is a Skywalker... Rey has the writers on her side, and in that moment the writers could have made Rey sympathetic and given her a new goal... If she had said "Rey Palpatine, I came to say thank you to my masters for giving me a future... and to say goodbye to my friends..." ... if she had said that, she'd have reached the end of one story, knowing who she is while acknowledging the Skywalkers had indeed saved a Palpatine... But not the Emperors Palpatine... and that she was going to walk into a galaxy knowing her name comes with bagged but that she was going to accept the legacy of that name while honoring her Skywalker masters. In this way the end of the Skywalker line ends in victory in that they stopped Rey from following the Emperors path and helped her become her own person. (Though this does require imagining she isn't currently possessed by the Emperor).

Daisy never was a problem. The media has tried to spin a narrative for years that she was bullied off of social media by 'toxic' misogynist Star Wars fans but if you actually look into things she left social media because of her opinions about gun control and just didn't feel she knew enough about everything to keep arguing with people over it, so decided to remove herself from the situation which is fair enough.. she's never expressed animosity towards anybody over it.

      @TromaDogg 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

@@silenceburns1336 Yeah, the main story is that Kelly Marie Tran was bullied off of social media because fans hated Rose Tico but many articles that talk about that also claim the situation with Daisy Ridley was similar and that 'toxic Star Wars fans' attacked her because they hated Rey and felt she'd ruined the franchise. What actually happened was that she said we need to end gun violence (not even about gun control really) and was then accused of being a hypocrite by a handful of idiots because Star Wars has shooting in it. My point is that the morons who went after her weren't people who hated her character or anything to do with Star Wars, it was over a personal opinion she had that they disagreed with. And even then, when she deactivated her Instagram account she didn't say it was because of harrasment or threats, she even put up a last post saying (and I quote) 'I just want to be on my phone less! Trying to be more present and all that and got a busy few months ahead so want less distractions...it's all good!' So I'm not even sure if she was too bothered by it all anyway.

The true problem at the heart of this scenario is that Disney is morally and creatively bankrupt. They are seemingly incapable of producing new content nor are they able to make things that aren't driven by "the message". This mentality also invaded Star Wars and it has left the Fandom deeply frustrated. They had a chance to build upon what had been done before with the Sequel Trilogy they made, but instead all they did was poorly retell the Original Trilogy but with "the message" rife throughout it. The OT is revered and retelling it in any way, shape or form was always going to upset long time fans of the franchise. Disney, Lucasfilm and Kathleen Kennedy became so intent on taking Star Wars down their own path that they completely ignored the true fans of this franchise to make content for a part of the fandom that barely exists or not at all. In typical fashion they reacted to the backlash by labeling these fans as "ists" or "phobes" rather than realizing that they were the ones with the problem. The actors involved in the Sequel Trilogy were never the problem and it's great to see Daisy Ridley defending us rather than toeing the company line and throwing us under the bus.

It's a shame but Disney decided to go down this path. They binned the plot that Lucas had suggested for the sequel trilogy. They got rid of the Extended Universe. They put Kathleen Kennedy in charge and backed her every step of the way. They allowed their creative team to run their mouths, blaming the fanbase every time a movie or show flopped.
The thing people have realised is that the Disney of today is a greedy, self centred, ideologically driven company that has no respect for it's customers or the IP's that it possesses. The whole thing deserves to come crashing down as a lesson to the next ten generations that the job of an entertainment company is to entertain.

    • @danb.5779

Agreed. When put into context with some of her other comments, I don't think she's defending the fanbase that has been critical of the treatment of the franchise as much as she's downplaying the amount and legitamacy of concern that has been expressed. In other comments she's clearly stated that she loves the new story and that she's a fan of Obaid-Chinoy.
That said, she clearly did a great job handling the question and leaving enough ambiguity in her response to not only keep a target off her back, but also make most of the more outspoken critics think that she's in agreement with them. She definately deserves a ton of praise for successfully escaping that trap - if she ever leaves acting, she might be able to switch to PR.

I haven’t seen a single person say “we don’t want a female director for the Ray movie” like that news anchor said, all I’ve seen people complain about is the directors lack of directing experience, it has nothing to do with her being a woman and everything to do with her inexperience, she has only directed two episodes of the worst rated show on Disney plus, I don’t think someone with that little experience should be given the keys to a 300 million dollar movie. A better female director would be Bryce Dallas Howard, she worked on Mando and had a fair amount of directing experience and I would rather have her direct the movie than Chinoy

regardless, the fact that she actually "defended" those fans by saying that "fans not wanting a female lead/director for star wars is out of proportionate" is still something.. also, Hayden is hated as well because fans just don't like the prequels, and still, he came back for a modern take..
what I think about really is that, you may be right that she doesn't care as long as she can get her pay check, but I also think she genuinely believes that modern SW stories can be improved if Disney will actually listen to their fans..
it actually reminds me the interview of michael douglas for MCU's Antman films in the last couple of years.. every time he is questioned about it, he is bluntly saying it is only for the money and more likely too old to actually care overall..

Daisy Ridley was all over every talkshow she was invited to, from the beginning, saying things like how everyone who uses the term "Mary Sue" is just a woman hater and has a fragile ego. She was fully on board with the bullshit or straight up refused to actually engage the fanbase intellectually. If you want an actor who spoke out about the shittyness at disney early, look towards John Boyega.
Seems that now she is being made to run some image catchphrases for the mouse, and people fall for it instantly. Y'all have some copium overdosed goldfish brains on you. Daisy always struck me as someone who just doesn't get attached to the work she does. Yes, she'll play in Star Wars, yes, she'll take the money and prestige that comes with it, but she will never be a Star Wars fan. Did everyone just forget that that Daisy Ridley was one of the Lucasfilm talking heads who insisted that the term ‘Mary Sue’ was sex¡st? I’ll be honest, I think she and Lucasfilm are attempting to do what Marvel has been attempting to do with their new Ultimate line: SHUTTING THE HELL UP!! and letting competent people (a majority of whom are men) fix the problem just long enough to turn a profit.
I’m sure that Daisy is a fine person and I have nothing against her personally. Professionally, however, as long as her paychecks are signed by KK, she is still Lucasfilm’s mouthpiece. She made the Mary Sue comment because she was told to and she downplayed the sex¡sm narrative because she was told to. With that in mind, be cautious: just because she said it doesn’t mean she believes it…
Also, this project will continue to undermine Luke Skywalker’s legacy and is therefore heresy, and should be treated and dealt with 40k-style.

And from day one she’s always seemed grateful to have that job and it’s certainly not her fault that Disney screwed up one of the easiest slam dunk opportunities for titanic success with one of the largest fandoms imaginable. It just goes to show that when you’re actually grateful for and humble about the opportunities given to you in life, people tend to respond quite kindly to that. Unlike some people… *ahem* Rachel Zegler

Yeah, Daisy Ridley herself has never been the problem I or, presumably, most people have had with modern Star Wars.
Neither has it been whether or not the person overseeing a project is a woman. Though I do find what that host woman said... amusing... "-which I find bizarre because episodes of the Mandalorian were directed by females-" (Some of which were enjoyable, yes. Point granted.) "-Kathleen Kennedy has been overseeing all of this-" Aaaaand that's just funny. Does... does she actually think that's a point in FAVOR of the state of Star Wars and women being involved? I don't think Kathleen Kennedy being a woman is inherently the problem, but what seems like a vast majority of people who take issue with the current state of Star Wars DESPISE Kathleen. "People don't want women, b-but Kathleen tho!" Yeah? And? She's the problem! If someone actually doesn't want women specifically involved, it's probably because they hate Kathleen so much that they've twisted it into a distaste for any woman being involved.
Which is stupid and wrong, mind you. Women are a huge part of Star Wars. Carrie Fisher as Leia and George Lucas's wife at the time helping him with his scripts are major reasons Star Wars was able to succeed. Kathleen "The Force is Female" Kennedy... has not been nearly so helpful.

I've never had a problem with Daisy. It's always been: Kathleen Kennedy, J J Abrams, Rian Johnson, Dave Filoni, Lucasfilm Story Group and the entire staff of Lucasfilm.
