  • My first attempt at this currently popular technique for monoprinting. Great fun and highly addictive!!
    I used pages from Vogue magazine for my resists, printing onto vintage book and music pages.
    Paints used: DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics - pthalo green blue, pthalo blue, primary yellow, green gold, dioxazine purple, cadmium orange hue, primary magenta,cobalt turquoise hue, cobalt teal hue, titanium white

    This is great especially because you've hit three birds with one stone. The actual gelli print, the original colored magazine page, and the sheet you wiped your brayer off on. Love it!

    I played with this technique once. it was fun and worked out pretty good. I have bought a magazine to do it again but am waiting until I have hours to waste, cause once I start gelli printing, I can't stop. lol Loved how the ones towards the end turned out!!!!

    • @racheljesse1
      @racheljesse1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That isn't wasting time!

    • @TeresaMorgan
      @TeresaMorgan  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree that time flies while I am playing with my gelli plate, but it isn't wasted time. Anything that gives you enjoyment and pleasure is time well spent.

    • @DeniseLush
      @DeniseLush 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      okay it seems my "wasting time" is getting taken the wrong way. I apologize. It was not meant like it's wasting time, that you are not doing anything productive. I just meant there are things I HAVE to do so when I can waste, meaning simply spend time and just let it slip away, then I will do more gelli printing. Cause I cannot stop at just a few. lol

    • @TeresaMorgan
      @TeresaMorgan  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LOL - I understand, time does disappear when you are printing, and I suppose to outsiders it can be viewed as non-productive.....we crafters know that it is always time well spent!!

    So, thanks to both of you for tips and encouragement. I did not get good results. I pulled twenty-five pages. Three images appeared, but faintly. I rewatched your video after clean up, and I took notes. I may have used too much paint. I might not have waited long enough for first pull to dry, or the magazine pages might not have right. I don’t buy magazines. When I went to the charity shop I was looking for National Geographic. I saw a woman pulling from those pages with great success. Don’t worry I won’t give up. I just found you this morning and subscribed straight away. I will be doing what my husband call bing watching to I see everything. I always let the adverts play out because I think that helps the crafters stay in the good graces of the TH-cam people. Thank you so much for you help and support. That goes for you too Kathryn. TFS

    I enjoyed this very much. I currently have 2 broken arms from a netball accident so I can’t try it yet, but I am looking forward to it. I have not read all the comments so I don’t know if it has been suggested but rather than buy new magazines my suggestion is to check out local charity stores, eg thrift stores or op shops. That way you get many more magazines for your money and help a worthy cause at the same time.

    Thank you for the tutorial! If I had to pick one thing that I'd do differently, it would be a bit more generous layer of color on the second half of the technique, since it has to re-wet the dark paint from the first half, so that it's all picked up by the paper.

      If you have problems with magazine (or newspaper) pages sticking to the plate - I use thinned down layer of liquid soap. That creates layer of slight sticky but non-stick when water is added. At finish, add little water & paper slips off plate, liquid soap washes off cleanly. Having problems with your gel plate? I use leftover glass from pictures frames. I put masking tape around edge of glass for no sharp edges, then apply thin layer of liquid soap before applying magazine or newspaper pages so paper doesn't stick to glass. Then start applying acrylic paint, acrylic gel, etc. to top of image(s). Later, when finished, add water & paper slips off glass or gel plate.

    Hi, Teresa ~ Thanks for sharing! The gelli-plate will not slip around on you if you take off that back sheet of plastic. :) Works much better without it on there. Also, you can take up more than one print using the same magazine image! So cool!!

      Thanks Teri - great tip (and common sense) to remove the other sheet of plastic. I don't know why I never have.... Thanks for letting me know that the images can be pulled again - somebody asked me and I wasn't sure, it's on my 'to do' list!

    I really enjoyed watching your process for this technique. I appreciate the rundown and discussion of issues you had. I just bought my first plate (a Speedball) after some success with a homemade plate. The way the paints just pull so clean off the Gelli plate has strengthened my resolve to get one so I can enjoy all these different techniques! Thanks :)

    I would suggest two things to make this video even better: (1) show us the magazine page first; and (2) show us the first prints you pulled. Very interesting technique, first time I’ve seen this done.

    I would love to see the magazine page before you apply it to the Gelli plate. It would help me to see what will and won't work. You tell us which ones didn't work as well as you wanted but without seeing the psge before it is put on doesn't help much. Please do another video!! Love this!!

      Thankyou - I may do this again, it was fun. Basically you need a high contrast photo, lots of black and white or very light/very dark areas. This is still not a guarantee of a good print, but generally gives the best results.

    Hi, love this. I was wondering if this technique worked with regular photos?
