My dad could sing this n played guitar. My favorite memories were my father's voice n his guitars. He was a star in country blues in the South. From Spokane Wa. To Tennessee near Memphis he recorded at 50 years n I have his tapes. RIP Dad.

Mountain of Love has to be the most upbeat sad song ever! Summer Rain reminds me of Let's Live For Today by The Grass Roots. India you should react to them. No one else is yet and they've got a ton of great hits! Sooner or Later, Midnight Confessions, Temptation Eyes, Two Divided By Love, Heaven Knows.
The grassroots is my favorite band, and I'm only 46. My dad had the best taste in music

@@lynncantrell5502 The Grassroots were on every little transistor radio I served during Vietnam and they were always one we listened to. I do know they had 29 #1 hits maybe more. Went in the Womens Army Corp day after I turned 18. All these songs meant something to every one of us. I was a Medical Specialist so saw a lot. These songs were our tape to hold it together.

It was so long ago but music and special songs can put you back to yesterday, just yesterday. Johnny Rivers was sooo good, yet unique. He had many great hits.
My parents had the 45 single record and I wore it out on a Sears turntable. Great time to be alive..

Summer Rain- 1967- I was 16 years old and learning what love was all about. I guess this song contributed to my understanding of it and whenever I hear it I rediscover a little piece of my soul.

I think it’s hard for someone that wasn’t there when this song was new , I remember doing so many things with these songs being the soundtrack of my life. Easy for anyone to appreciate the song especially with its haunting arrangement and Johnny’s smooth voice. I watch tons of your reactions and enjoy very much!
Loved both Mountain of Love and Summer Rain. Johnny Rivers was very underated in the 60s. He had big hits but it at the time of the Beatles, Beach Boys and Motown

Song by Harold Dorman, 1959. Hit for Charley Pride and Johnny Rivers, now almost a country standard. Always been a Johnny Rivers fan. And, yeah, I saw the stank-face come on during Summer Rain. That's a rockin' upbeat ballad - and not many of them around!

Two great songs and reactions. You got to play his Slow Dancing, Swaying to the Music which IMHO is one of the best songs to slow dance to. Herb Alpert This Guy's in Love with You is another you need to play.
I don’t know which singer from the sixties is more underrated and under appreciated Johnny Rivers or Gary Puckett. Both men were sorry are incredibl e And as of 2020 pre corona still out there performing. Thanks India stay beautiful and oh so awesome!!!!!!!

The original radio single version of "Summer Rain" had MUCH lounder "Beatlesque guitar" on the Sgt. Pepper verses.

Summer Rain is my favorite of his but he made every performance his own. Underrated in my opinion.

Really. really nice song. One of my favorites. Johnny did a very good version. There is also an original version of Mountain of Love by Harold Dorman. It grooves a bit less, and has a more Country & Western sound.

I love your reaction to these great recordings! I've been a fan of Johnny's going back to when these two songs first hit the airwaves and climbed the charts. (Yes, I'm THAT old!) In fact, the "Johnny River's - In Action" vinyl LP was the first album I ever owned - I think I was 12. Anyway, his pure and vibrant vocal talent have always worked well, whether on a soulful rocker like Mountain of Love, or a love ballad like Summer Rain. Here, on Summer Rain, I love the imagery that is painted by the lyrics, and by Johnny's delivery, but also articulated by the instrumental arrangement... You hear the thunderstorm and rain effects at the beginning, then the guitars pick up the ideas of the rain hitting, trickling down window panes, the bass and drums carrying that thunder when it rolls... A complete experience, lovingly packaged!
That was AMAZING! Now do one called “Memphis.” You won’t be disappointed, you might cry though.

That instrument dare you heard is definitely a harmonica and that's one of the best harmonica licks I've heard in any song there's a few that's got better harmonic and I'm but that's absolutely right up there with the best love it.
The Single had no sound effect so this is the album version Look to your soul was another awsome track from it too.
Did a Google search.. I think he released this on 1964.... Charlie Pride also had a very successful and Awesome rendition that was released in 1982... It was Charlie's version I heard first...

As I said before, "Summer Rain" is my fav. Johnny Rivers track, My second fav. is "Look To Your Soul." "Mountain Of Love" is a re-make of the Harold Dorman hit. I prefer Harold's version of "Mountain Of Love."

Many other artists probably would have done this as a slower ballad like song and it would have gone unnoticed. The up tempo beat used by Johnny is what made it brilliant and a hit.
I haven't heard a Johnny Rivers song I didn't like.
I first heard one of his first songs on the radio when I was about 9 or ten years old.Short songs with meanimgful lyrics.
