Used to live there back in the mid 70‘s. Now I visit every year from Oregon. Tip for Custer State Park‘s Wildlife Loop…bring a 10lb bag of carrots for the donkey/burrows. Safer for them than bananas or chips. The Bakers Buns restaurant has great breakfasts and lunches. And may be the ONLY restaurant open on Sunday mornings if you happen to be there at that time. We always see more wildlife in the early mornings so we plan on being at the wildlife loop at 0700. And we only drive 20mph. Let the faster folks pass…you‘ll see way more! Don’t forget the see CrazyHorse Memorial, which is just outside Custer. For a size comparison the 4 busts of MT Rushmore together will fit on just the head of CrazyHorse. And you can walk out onto the arm of the carving! Cheers

Just feel in love with this park. We're Aussies and visited in 2009. We went to the Custer stampede which was AWESOME!!! Dream of returning one day. Thanks for a great video and the memories.

Well done, as a resident of Custer i find your synopsis to be well balanced and smoothly filmed. I moved here for all the reasons you listed and no mosquitos, low taxes, milder winters then Minnesota .Sadly, All the burros which the CCC used during the construction of the Harney Peak (Black ElkPeak) Fire tower perished during a fire 3 years ago and have been replaced with imported stock.

Harney Peak has been renamed Black Elk Peak and yes, it is awesome!
When I saw a buffalo as an adult, I thought they were smaller than I remembered. I remember seeing a taxidermied one in the museum in Pierre and it was huge! My mom reminded me I was six at the time.
Haha, yes, a buffalo to a six-year-old would be HUGE!
My neighbor in Colton Oregon raised buffalo. One day while I was visiting, but come up to fence, an reaches for it. Buffalo owner says, don't touch that fence, it holds buffalo in! But guy reached down an touched fence anyway! He got kicked back about 6 ft. I use to take my hair brush with me an buffalo remembered me an started coming to me when they saw me! But always careful around electric fences, esp. keeping buffalo in!
10 years from now you'll want 2022 back. Trust me
the founding fathers have good natchoes, i visited them in 2023

Oh my goodness, this settles it. This is our next non-beach family vacation. Lol 😂 here in the Midwest we alternate between a beach vacation one year and a non-beach vacation in odd years for our family trips… I think our kids would really enjoy South Dakota in a couple years!
Oh, for sure. There’s nature and there’s fun things for the kids, like Bear Park and Reptile Zoo. We’ll do more videos and I’m finishing up my guide soon as well.
Palmer Gulch Koa at Hill city is a fun campground when you have kids with.

Yes! They are all in the longer video on the black hills. Also, we will be putting out more videos on the black hills soon - I’m just finishing up my travel guide and audio tour for the black hills right now and then we’ll start making more videos!
