glad to see many positive comments in support of your excellent videos! i usually stop the videos to see the scenery you show of Japan, so really happy to see the view you admired along your drive to the medaka store. keep up the great work, Ryo!
From Oregon US thank you so much for all your teachings i wach all you pist I'm trying to learn so much about the Rice Fish and what all they can eat if you have to do water changes. Your a very happy man keep up the smile your family must be very proud. I also enjoy you and your uncle on the fish team you have going on. Sandy
Yes please do a farm tour. Also please can you talk about best plants for rice fish ponds both indoors and outdoors. Also do they do better in shallow or deep bowls? What is the depth that is recommended? So many questions but I know you will cover them all in your upcoming vids! Learned so much from you already. Keep the knowledge coming! Thank you for your effort and dedication!
Wow koi patterned rice fish! I’d love some. I only have koi betta but betta can’t school and too much work for a sorority tank. Now the rice fish pond becomes my goal! Don’t even need a heater, so perfect.
That's Ryo for you. He has us in he mind, that's he goes content hunting for us and that's why I like watching he's videos. Is like he's family alredy. 😁. A By way Of course I do want a couple of all the variety of medaka ricefish but I will settle with a trio of the one in the picture Ryo show. Am will to pay the shipping costs.
Hi, can you share with us how you maintain those ponds you have? How often does you need to change the water? It would be great if you can have a video on how to maintain those pond with plant in it.
Enjoyed the content as always Ryo. I subscribed to your channe about two years ago and noticed today you’re at 62+k subscribers. That’s awesome and well deserved!!
I really love your rice fish videos. I too raise rice fish here in the US I have 2 different kids I have the sparkling blues and the white ones. Witch know I've got baby fry from both sets. Just in this summer alone. These guys are a lot of fun. Durring the summer I put all mine in a 45 gallon stock tank on my porch with breeding mops
Beautiful and serene setup, definitely love the variety of rice fishes. Thanks Ryo for sharing, I just discovered Japanese Rice Fish, enjoy your vids as usual.
That Rice Fish Farm is 🤩 Wish we had something like that here in the US. I have a Group of the Red and White Varitey (Or Kohaku as you call them) and they breed non-stop. Im redoing my Patio Pond since it got infested with snails, but I'm so glad I have them since Washington Weather is really close to Japan Weather. It was actually You and Cory that really made me want them xD. Medaka are Extremely Hard to find in the US since theyre not that popular, but Awesome Video as always Ryo! Stay Safe
Just loved this video. I want to start a small planter pond. the idea of no heater, filter, or light is very attractive. I live in the US, Las Vegas, Nevada which is a very dry desert climate so I could never do anything like this outside. Water evaporation is about 2 gallons (sorry, imperial measurements) every day or so. makes it a challenge. I've never seen rice fish here in Las Vegas, but I could use minnows.
This is such a great video - thank you 😊 I’m just learning about rice fish - I just ordered my first eggs - I live in Scotland 🏴 no one much keeps them here I don’t think 💭 they were tricky to get. We don’t have all these colours! Wow 🤩 thank you ☺️
Really enjoy your mini-pond. Further inspiration to set up an indoor mini-pond in my house. I’m thinking of growing rice in my mini-pond. Perfect for rice fish don’t you think? I had problems with mosquito larvae in one of my outdoor ponds. I introduced some “wild type” guppies without aging the water properly. They had died and the mosquito larvae started growing a few days later. Reintroduced some more wild guppies and they promptly ate the larvae. Nice drip system for acclimating your rice fish to their new home. I need to get a valve like you have on the end to try that. Thanks!
Ryo, Loving your work.Really enjoyable to see what you are up to and those glimpses of your neighbourhood are great too. I have several outdoor mini-ponds like you....they just seem to breed don't they?!!? I have WCMMs (White Cloud Mountain Minnows) that are very similar to your Medaka. They are great at keeping the mosquito population down---I never see any larvae in their tanks. Here in New Zealand they stay in situ all year around. Regarding the algae---my 'rule of thumb' is if I keep 60-70% of the water surface either covered with plants or shaded, then too much algae is never a problem.I think everyone should have some algae for a balanced system. You can remove the excess from time to time but leave some for the cleaning crew! You are heading into hot weather now so you should make sure your fish aren't cooking in that shallow water! I fill mine to the top.
I hope you are staying safe in Japan with the current climate. I have some Japanese students in my classes at uni and I feel for you right now with so many cases. Here in Australia we are in our 6th lockdown in Melbourne and Sydney is doing pretty bad. I love your videos and I plan to make a mini pond like yours they are super cool.
Thank you. Our area and hometown is doing pretty well. Very few cases if any. It is the bigger cities especially Tokyo that is not doing well. Thank you very much for your concerns 😊
The rice fish farm was awesome 😍... want's to be in there once in future... you are living in a wonderful place ... some of us dreams to be in there ..... I am always eager to wait for your just fabulous video.... you inspiring me a lot... hope for the best and hope you will make your studio suppose to be mini studio , nice and cool and add some of the amazing stuff... waiting for the 2nd tank set up in your mini studio.... as well as waiting for the update of your garage fish room.... you are a amazing guy... Your calm attitude and video shooting skill as well as your best ability ofcourse aquascaping ,,, just blowing my mind..... just wanted to be a person like you..... soft , innocent , active , creative , hard worker ....... Love your video a lot.....
Ryo, It would be great to do an interview with that breeder and a tour of the different types of Medaka that he is selecting for. They are starting to become more popular in the US but the prices for the good ones are really high. Cheers, Chris
Ryo apparently they are not legal on vancouver, British columbia, but i just got a half dozen beautiful silver/blue medaka, currently outside in my tub. So exciting! I put 6 into a 15/20 gallon container...is that too many to start a pot with? Maybe buy another pot and split them?
Hi Ryo! Your ponds look great. But my favorite pond is the indoor one you just put the new fish in. I like the way the plants grow up so you can see the fish swimming around. The others are covered over by their plants. Makes it hard to see them. But they're all very nice. 👍😎✌
Love the new fish room and how everything it is setup so far. What are the dimensions of the pond that you have inside? I really wanna try a small pond soon.
Ryo, thanks for your awesome videos and cool personality. I'm here in Brooklyn, NY and you've inspired me to do my own mini pond. I'm just worried I'll get addicted and end up with a few of them. Keep the videos coming.
My first attempt at raising fry was a failure. I waited a couple of weeks for the first one to hatch. It died the next day. Then after a few more days another one , then another the next day hatched and I was so excited. After a couple of days with these two, I awoke the next morning and they had totally disappeared. The 'maternity' tank had well aged water, lots of elodea plants, then I added some java moss thinking that would be good for them. Apparently it didn't help. I even had bought Hikari First Bites and gave just the tip of a q-tip dusting of the food. They seemed ok and lively. I can't figure out what made them die. Not sure if the changes in temperatures in the days were too much, but I kept them indoors and the changes were gradual. I would love to have the successes you are having. Any tips on the first weeks of care for fry will be appreciated. Thanks and I love watching your videos.
I really love your content...it makes me feel and want to live in your house😍😍😍 fish is really stress reliever especially now that we are under the pandemic... Waving here from the Philippines ✋✋✋ keep safe always and have a happy heart❤️❤️❤️
Hey Ryo, you should look into getting a polarizing filter for your camera for videos like this one. That would cut down on the reflections of the water surface and allow you to see through much more clearly. It would be perfect for filming rice fish especially.
Hi Ryo! I'm a huge fan, and love all your cool videos. Don't stop, keep them coming. The new fish room looks great, your hard work is paying off. I hope one day you can open a fish store if your own. You have such a great passion for fish. I have a question, what happens during the winter to the rice fish outside? Thank you Ryo!
I didn't know this was a thing but I found your channel while looking up ideas for my bog pond for my carnivorous plants and am loving it! I've watched this specific video at least 4 times! I'd love to see more footage of just the rice fish living their best lives, lol. Also, what do you and your uncle do when it rains? Don't the pots outside overflow? I want to recreate something like this on my patio here, but I'm worried the fish will get swept away with the rain! Also, I am familiar with setting up an indoor tank, but for the outdoor one, maybe you could do a breakdown of filling up with water (where to get it/how to dechlorinate) for the first time, and then refilling with water from what kind of source.
Okay I watched more of your videos and got my answers, but if you made a video with it titled "How to change water in mini ponds" or something like that - the answer would have been easier to find. Although - it did force me to watch several other of your videos. 😂😂😂

Great video, very relaxing and I always want to build my own mini pond after watching one of your videos😂💯
I have a question bout the rice fish can say an orange one interbreed with a black one or vise versa
Yes, you can crossbreed them. One of our mini ponds have bi-color (red with black spots) that was accidentally bred by us
glad to see many positive comments in support of your excellent videos! i usually stop the videos to see the scenery you show of Japan, so really happy to see the view you admired along your drive to the medaka store. keep up the great work, Ryo!
Ryo Watanabe that’s really cool thanks
