It's so interesting watching the process, and you are an excellent narrator. I was so happy you connected with the group on the way into Idyllwild! Joint success is always a sweet thing. Keep it up- we are all rooting for you, and perhaps living a bit vicariously, too. 😊 Stay safe!
Hey Doug, finally catching up on your video reports and is a great way to travel along on this epic trek! The scenery has been fantastic…too bad about Marty dropping out, but I know you’ll make it. Best of luck on the stretches ahead and hopefully we’ll meet up somewhere along the way! - Take care, Brad
OK, I’m a little confused on the water deal. Couple of questions here. on your last video, you mentioned to packing water but not drinking it and becoming dehydrated. The obvious question is why would you pack it and not drink it? Second question : did you really rely on a stream for your water as opposed to packing it in? Did you know the stream was going to be there? How do you treat the water from the stream? some kind of a filter or something to kill the possible bacteria?
Water is always tricky out here, especially in the desert. My point was I need to drink my water based on how far I have to my next source … and not end up just carrying it. Yes, I get water from streams whenever possible and use a small filter to ensure it’s potable. Sometimes water is left as a cache by “trail angles” (good people who help PCT hikers). This is done a key locations in particularly long dry sections.
Hi Doug, it’s G-Money. Jin and I just watch all your videos and we think it’s amazing that you’re doing something so cool! You got this! We will continue to watch your journey and we can’t wait to hear all about it when you get back. Hang in there!
Prepping for pct thru hike 2025 at 70, so watching with interest. Thanks for the vids and keep it up!
Awesome hiking.
It's gorgeous!

Did you find micro-spikes to be sufficient? Or were there ever any sections you felt crampons would have been better?
Micro spikes were sufficient 👍
