Baked tofu! 😋 You should try the ramen bomb next time - ramen with Idahoan potato mixed in. I love your giggle Mary Sunshine! Truly I do! It's so cheerful! I think your whole adventure is brilliant and your vids are so lively! Your tramily is so sweet. So glad you found a vegan restaurant...some vegan dishes are scrummy! 😋 Happy trails to you all! 🌺
Hi Mary - we call those tree's Jeffrey Pines and yes, they smell delicious! There's another tree that looks and smells similar called the Ponderosa Pine. You'll see some of those too I'm sure along the way. :) Great video - glad to see you still going.
Your mixed terrain training back in England must be serving you well....I have not heard any complaining from you at all, be grateful, be joyful...thank you
It's so great to see you doing so well out there on the trail, and in town! Have you picked up a Tramily? It's quite interesting to see how loud and social you are with your new Tramily. I remember on more than one occasion you were alone and still whispering on video. What an excellent way to get through Mountain lion country is in a pack. Safety in numbers. Buster, Junha and I are glued on to your adventure. Safe travels, keep smiling on Poppins! Happy Hiking!
You have to go with Poppins, I don't know anyone more suited. Loving your videos from back here in wet Ireland. Great to see you met up with some like minded people and you got a vegan restaurant. Good for the owners they have their thinking caps on. Keep smiling Mary you bring soooo much joy☘
Hahra Brownie Trees. That's a good indication that hiker hunger is in full swing! :) I'm loving all the vegan options on the trail. Def taking note of these gold mines. So nice to see you having a great time with your tramily. Safe passage, Mary!
Oh how adorable , Mary's a child again shopping with her kiddie cart. Even though your farther a head , please have a big group for the Sierras as the water crossing will get dangerous with fast and deep water especially with those short legs.
Cracking video Mary. Good to see you having fun with your new friends. Glad to see you found a good place to eat out. keep on plodding All the best from scotland
That's a Jeffery Pine that smells like that. To quote another blogger *... the Jeffrey's bark smells of vanilla or pineapple (honest, it's an easy way to tell them apart). Ponderosas smell resinous, if at all. My observation in California is the Jeffery seems to occupy higher elevations than the Ponderosa. Another way to differentiate them is grab a cone--the Ponderosa's will poke your hand while the Jeffrey's won't (spines are turned inward). Jeffrey cones are larger and heavier as well.*
This video should have come with a warning: may cause severe hunger! Great food choices by all of you. I have to say I have spent many years vocalizing the English language and I never thought of putting the two words right and giggle together. From now on there will be no more good laughs for me ~ only right giggles!
Mary what a wonderful video. I couldn't stop smiling whilst I was watching it. It so reassuring seeing you have a good time. I know some days are better than others, but it's good to know you are enjoying it so much. Keep up the great videos. I think what you are doing is amazing and your happy personality can lift anyone's day as it does mine
Hello Mary, thank you for sharing another fine video. Once again, two thumbs up. Now I know why you decided to hike the PCT, so you can sample all the delicious foods from Mexico all the way to the Canadian border. Please take good care of yourself and keep that charming bubbly personality. 🤗
I did half of that downhill side in the dark last week and lost the trail twice. Once in the snow and once because of a landslide and all the tracks left by those that went before me were going around in circles LOL
I've hiked that D slide for years and have never seen any water on it. We had a 6 year drought and even in 2017 didn't see any water. There's a part in the middle of D slide where you can see suicide rock on the deer springs side. Is cheese vegan? Cool video.
Hey Mary As a fellow vegetarian backpacker I’m very interested in your through-hike meals. (I get the porridge for breakfast part!) Perhaps you could show us your lunches and dinners from time to time.
Yummmm! Brat with German Potato Salad looks delish! You would love my garden. I just weeded it but it will be a while before ready. All vegan. John from MI
I could eat vegan food if there was no sugar in it but I could never "be" vegan because I'm Keto and it's almost impossible to be both on trail but it's almost doable in town. All that food did look great! There are some great tasting vegan cheeses but I tried them before I was Keto so I did not look at the net carbs but Thomas DeLauer says some of them are Keto friendly as long as they are not made with soybean oil.
Mary, Mary quite contrary
Eating her porridge cold
With a smiling face
As she hikes the Trace
Brave, Courageous and Bold!
Hey, Mary, I'm glad you're having such a good time. Anyone who comments on the delicious smell of trees is a true aficionado of the outdoors!
a true vegan, LOL

Its a Sugar Pine! Natives used it's resin as a sweetener. Thoroughly enjoying your journey!

Another great video Mary. Loving your cheerfulness x
What a wonderful journey, so happy for you 👍🏼😁
Ponderosa Pine bark smells like vanilla or butterscotch.
it's a Jeffrey pine, closely related to Ponderosa but not the same

Thank you so much for showing the vegan offerings in town-most pct videos have the burger place. 🌱
Wow what a fun video and you got some great real food.

Was so looking forward to your next post and have super enjoyed it. Looking forward to each one...Betty from Ooltewah, Tennessee.
You deserved a good rest and recharge. The Vegan fare looked great.
It is so great to see you having such a wonderful time! Love hearing everyone's laughter and seeing all the smiles. 👍

Elev. 9K ft. - Amazing!!
I vote fir calling this section of the trail candyland lol...brownie trees for the win!!!!!
I did half of that downhill side in the dark last week and lost the trail twice. Once in the snow and once because of a landslide and all the tracks left by those that went before me were going around in circles LOL
Sugar Pine sugar is called “nanómba” in the Native American Washo language; a popular sweetener for many outdoor enthusiasts.

I think the "brownie tree" is a Ponderosa pine. They have an almost vanilla smell right up close.
Ponderosa Pines. Love them
Vegan Eats on the PCT!!! (I'm ready to go to Idyllwild just to check out that restaurant!)

Spoiled girl!!!!
Vegan food while PCTing...... Such a thing !!!! As if the custom vegan pizza wasn't enough !😋!🤗
Right on Mary !!
Very Majestically beautiful
That food is just amazing! Love vegans 💖😍
Jeffery Pine, aka puzzle bark tree.
Amazing food. Good to know Idywild has vegan options. Is the good heart cheese any good?
Mountain lion tips : They are huge kitty - cats... 😂
@@richardross7219 , that sign cracked me up!

The tree that smells like vanilla is a Ponderosa Pine tree.
What did you think of the ramen noodles?
Eating vanilla-scented trees ... hardcore plant-based dining
Holy smokes girl...you keep taken zoro,.... its going to take 3 years to get to Canada ...lol..love your awesome attitude and videos
This was her first zero(s) since she started!
Good luck
👣👣🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️👣👣
Those are Jeffrey Pines and, yes, they smell like vanilla!
I hope you meant the mayor of Idyllwild...the golden retriever... 😂 like for reals... a golden retriever dog 🐶
A double zero is my idea of hiking! Of course be careful how much boiled cabbage you eat!

I like watching your videos. If you could slow down on panning the scenery, it comes across a little glitchy. 🤓
Is cheese vegan?
No. It's not real cheese. It's an ultra-processed dairy substitute.
