ironic, huh.....I think Joy's "religiosity" comes through....the song's a metaphor for Jesus' love....I believe Joy decided to pursue her career in gospel music
OMG! The most beautiful and harmonious singing voices I have heard in a long time. The Female really enjoyed every moment if her performance...she knows she is good!
Just to clarify, this is not country music, this sounds Americana or folk, but not country. Unfortunately, country is more of the radio-friendly types of song you hear nowadays; but those songs don't have substances and meaning like Americana. The Civil Wars is just phenomenal! I wish they're still together and making and great music.
I think of this particular song as straight-up gospel-- obviously influenced by Joy's background in Christian music. But most of the Civil Wars' music is slower and more typically "roots"/Americana. Of course, all of this categorization is pretty meaningless, anyway. The Grammies apparently thought this song was "country," which, sure, I guess.
+modusvivendi2 Gospel music comes with a particular sound too, not just lyrical content. This may be a worship song, but it doesn't come close to the gospel sound, not that that's a good or bad thing. I think it's nice that Americana, Country, Folk, whatever you want to call it, can still share faith.
just found out they have split up,I hope they reconsider and continue as the civil wars the best harmony duo I've ever heard and s Stevenson appreciate the class.
too bad they couldn't resolve whatever differences they had....they were a brilliant, if short lived, collaboration....I believe Joy decided to pursue her career in gospel music
Bummer! The folk-pop duo Joy Williams and John Paul White released a statement Tuesday announcing that because of “internal discord and irreconcilable differences of ambition” they were unable to “continue as a touring entity at this time.”
Sounds like a bit of tongue-in-cheek from John Paul. Which when given thought, I find very humorous. But, it would be best to see what is said on May the 1st, 2013.
WHAT THE FUCK WAS SHE SAYING.... god i hate country singers that slur the lyrics together like that to try and make it sound more like traditional country.
I'm happy we got the music we did, but I consider their break-up a tremendous musical tragedy. This was beautiful.
Still listening, and amazed, in 2024
Me too!!! They were amazing!!!
"Now the elegant but haunting music of the Civil Wars" -- proceeds to play the happiest, most upbeat track in their repertoire.
I laughed.
Apparently you've never really listened to the words.it's really not that happy.
It’s certainly hauntingly beautiful
Listen to more of their music. Haunting but elegant is a perfect description.
ironic, huh.....I think Joy's "religiosity" comes through....the song's a metaphor for Jesus' love....I believe Joy decided to pursue her career in gospel music
This is an absolutely amazing performance.
Freakin' STELLAR! They were just simply THE benchmark duo - truly a once-in-a- lifetime act.
Wow. My favorite acoustic duo.
The smile on my face while I was watching this was ridiculous 😅🥰 a pleasure to listen to them
OMG the feels! I miss this :(

I swear, I could hear Joy sing that low note at the end of "to the one I love" a million times and it would never get old.
Jaw=Floor
Mind=Blown
Heart=Happy
I miss them guys!!
Happy thanksgiving! Grateful for this performance!
Still get goosebumps at that high note

Just perfect!
They are PERFECTION..I can't wait to watch this in November..YAY
how could anyone "dislike" this ... ?! Hope we get more of this from them in the future!
I was losing my interest in making music. I think I found some inspiration
So where is the rest of the performance. I have seen it but the lip sync was off big time. Where can I get this performance? PBS? I'm willing to pay!
***** There's a YT upload somewhere that has the whole concert but the audio is way out of sync. This video is great! ;)
Hear what happens when musicians can actually SING. And they're not telling anybody to get up and jump around. Refreshing Quality !
Brillant !!
just found out they have split up,I hope they reconsider and continue as the civil wars the best harmony duo I've ever heard and s Stevenson appreciate the class.
I hate how this guy sais "Haunting" in the beginning these two have voices of angels!
I hate how you spell "says".
its not that bad, you understood me!
Bryan Barnett It's not that bad how he sings "Haunting", you understood him!
@@maxamos7 The one that got away and Barton Hollow are Haunting. From this Valley is just beautiful.

Awww JP's cute smiley face when they sang that "Jesus carry me" part. (I dont know if thats the lyrics hahaha"
The music is fantastic, and she is ridiculously attractive. I think I have a new band.
Oh heerlijk!!
Awesome!

This song sounds like ECHOSMITH'S SONG BRIGHT.
Scooby-Doo at 1:46
1:13 mistake of Joy?
bamdap bam nah, she was in the zone and hit the right note, so it wasn’t a mistake. Just an improvisation :)

funny...i understood it just fine.
I understand every word. Trouble with English have you?
i think it started as a metaphor about the desert longing for a river. and praying to the one I love. and that would be Jesus. a religious song.
Ricardo Lovato What ain't no country I ever heard of!!
This song sounds like ECHOSMITH'S SONG BRIGHT.
