@Ivanka Cerqueira damn straight. You can have the best of intentions to keep personal life compartmentalized from artistic/professional life, but at the end of the day we are all human, and reality is messier than that. A man and a woman spending all that time together on the road, on the stage, in a songwriting room, with that level of chemistry… I’d say the odds are against them NOT getting together. It’s unfortunate for those of us who loved the music that chemistry produced, but for their personal lives, it was the right call.
@Ivanka Cerqueira oh, 100%. A perfectly complementary pair of voices and energies. I think that part of growing up is learning that even the most wonderful things in the world have double-edged blades.
The amount of talent that this takes is actually incredible... to be right next to a person singing in a totally different note that is mutlple octives below/above what you are supposed to be singing, and making it sound good is so difficult... and to have them sound like this live is unheard of in today's music... a breath of fresh air!
they could be some of the biggest name in folk music if they were still together, like goddamn they won four grammys in just 3 years. they made good fckin music
my first time hearing them was live. They opened for Emmylou Harris. I brought my mum to see her for Mother's Day. Boy was I blown away by their acoustic set. I can't even remember the rest of the show, just the absolute chemistry these two shared.
I had no idea that the civil wars had broken up,and I am losing more and more faith in humanity.I was much happier without knowing they are not together anymore.I am sad.
I love #joywilliams voice so much; Her sound makes me feel something, it doesn't matter what it makes me feel, as long as it makes me feel, and it totally does. Awesome album! Barton Holler! ;-)
I come back to this over and over... so gutted I never got to see them live. Saw JPW solo and it was lovely, but to me the Civil Wars was a case of the whole being more than the sum of its already extraordinary parts. Will always hope for a reunion...
I wish these two could work it ot and reunite I know it is selfish but this a rare act for this much talent to be shared so beautifully between two people
A crazy harmonica player who jammed with us in Cairns (G'day, Jack Lippa) said I should watch this clip. Thanks, Jack; you weren't wrong, they are GREAT!
Immaculate...enamored... I cant capture w/words... the sound. JP n Joy encapsulate a lost sacred soulful southern American sound. the likes of was lost on the battlefields of the Civil War... only to be dug up n brought back to life w/a modern twist... sound so good I would put it in a needle and spike my vein to hear again... I m addicted to the Civil Wars. I v never posted b4 now for a band or anything but hearing them....
I just saw the concert in Minneapolis MN last night. It left me wanting more. I wanted every song to be longer. Great concert. Can't wait to see them again.
I absolutely love their sound. It's refreshing to see how delightful their personalities are live. I think one indicator of great musicians is that they are able to reach & attract fans of multi-generations. They have done this for sure. Here's my son & his girlfriend (age 17 & 16) singing this song. Won't let me post a link sorry. Try copy & paste in search: Barton Hollow - The Civil Wars - cover by Morgan McDowell and Gwynne Wood.
ive just been introduced to the civil wars and every video i see has become an other favorite of mine.....thats what im talking about....big ups frum hawaii.......nicely done.........oh by the way joy makes me smile.....
That's so sad they broke up,they were really amazing too 😢.....I remember my first time hearing them...it was like 6am n I had just woken up too the sound of the beautiful soundof a guitar.then I heard them Open up the song with their beautiful harmony....I was wide awake by the time John Paul started singing his 1st line, and by the time they got tho the chorus I felt like they knew me,like they could relate to my very soul...then when joy hit that one note I just knew they were awesome and that they were going to be huge.that was the 1st time I had ever heard Barton hollow.
There's many singers out there as good as these two, the magic was the way they inter acted with each other and harmonized, as solo's they'll get lost with the Idol drop offs of the world. so sad:(
Just checking-in to see if this concert has yet to be posted in it's entirety; from beginning to end. Looked around but haven't seen it so far. So as soon as I make sure I learn how to post stuff here correctly, I'll be sharing my copy. Stay tuned...
holy crap, i thought they were just good without being live. but now seeing this it's like I they became greater than the what I already thought they were! so great!
They were so in sync musically. Still dreaming about that reunion.
Me and you both lol
@@MarzBlvckmon now the OG commentor, you, & I 😂 one day have faith it will happen.
I REALLY hope they do reunite and reconcile. They were so amazing together.
We're all wishin
Am I the only one who gets chills every time they harmonize?
I wish they would forgive each other. The world is such a much better place with them creating their art.
@@barfly4523 Them touring put stress on their respective marriages. And I think a lot of jealousy was involved.

She looks like she is having the time of her life and she just feels every song with her whole heart.
The Civil Wars was and still is, probably will ALWAYS BE my 'go-to' music when I need to reconnect with myself..
I can't get back into that account but I love the fact that it is 2 years later and they are still my #1s in my list.... says it all
I still miss them in 2019.
That intro, gotta come back for it ever so often.
And still in 2021 :(
2021 still missing them!!
I still miss them, 2021.
Still here 2021.
The amount of talent that this takes is actually incredible... to be right next to a person singing in a totally different note that is mutlple octives below/above what you are supposed to be singing, and making it sound good is so difficult... and to have them sound like this live is unheard of in today's music... a breath of fresh air!
It’s 2022 and still mourning that breakup. Reunion album please!
They are absolutely out-of-this-world phenomenal. Why did they have to break up? The world needed much more of their brilliant artistry.
That riff is just perfect!
they could be some of the biggest name in folk music if they were still together, like goddamn they won four grammys in just 3 years. they made good fckin music
When I watch them perform together I feel like I need to go to confession afterwards, and I've been an agnostic for 30 years.
Saw them so many times back then. Still loving their harmonious ways in 2022.
Still gives me goosebumps! So glad I got to see them live. Even have their autographs.
The way that she moves when she sings is infectious. I love it.

Flawless. So much chemistry
🔥🔥🔥
At least two people would say they have a bit too much chemistry….
Another here, thats probably why they stop doing their singing thing.
I come back to this over and over... so gutted I never got to see them live. Saw JPW solo and it was lovely, but to me the Civil Wars was a case of the whole being more than the sum of its already extraordinary parts. Will always hope for a reunion...

Best live performance ever

Powerful duo! 💜
Everything about this lovely lady is beautiful...voice, smile, personality & passion she expresses in the song. Wonderful!
Goosebumps...just goosebumps
Thank you heavens because there's still people in this world that can make MUSIC and sing live!
They are like the reincarnation of Johnny Cash and June Carter....
Wow! I wish I could travel in time 20 years just so I can listen to all the song they are going to release!

Rob

I saw the Civil Wars in Ann Arbor, MI. They were a pleasure to watch and money well spent. And yes....the female singer...is smoking hot!
Hate that they broke up. :(
