  • Last night we finished the canola so today we are onto the barley, which involves us having to clean everything and calibrate all over again!

    As a person who lived in the city for most of his life I find your videos extremely interesting . I did spend a short time on a sheep farm , 50 years ago , before moving to Melbourne . People who say wheat farmers have it easy have absolutely no idea of how hard you work not to mention fluctuating markets , weather and costs involved in your industry . Keep up the videos .

      Yer we seem to get all the air traffic go right above us!!! It was quite interesting when covid hit and we stopped getting all the plane trails over head.

    Great video mate, it's awesome learning how you change over to different seeds and what's involved in prepping fields for different crops. That Deere sounds pretty sweet on song too! 😎

    Goodday mate loveing the videos
    Quick question whats your thought of the auger??

    • @tomsbrookfarm
      @tomsbrookfarm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Im not in love with it. Would much rather the conveyer option. The auger doesn't get clean and we also have the bolt up top of the auger break about once a year!! In fact it did it yesterday!!
      Would definitely prefer the conveyor.

    Hey mate do not have much risk of frost planting barley this early?

    • @tomsbrookfarm
      @tomsbrookfarm  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really, whilst we do get frost it is an uncertainty in my area. So you can’t really farm for it. Up in the wheat belt they get frost every year so they tend to seed a bit later to avoid the frost window.

      @@tomsbrookfarm yeah I farm near Narrogin and frost is the big risk here

    Hi JH. What brand is the moisture probe? Do you rate it?

    • @tomsbrookfarm
      @tomsbrookfarm  ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a Sentek, it's handy but it is a pain where it is located. Would be better to have one that is completely under ground away from anything that could dig it up as it is always a pain removing it.
      This model also has been a bit of issue with battery and signal and subscription service so would maybe do some research on other ones if I was to do it again. This one was a trial one an agronomist put in years ago and was handy when he was controlling it but when he left the data use has dramatically dropped. We just check it to see how much the last rain has moved it and seeing how wet the soil is.

    Hey mate, do you do the outside laps with auto steer?

    • @tomsbrookfarm
      @tomsbrookfarm  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yer I do, we have typically square paddocks and each side is on a run line, then when we get to bush or where it’s curvy we have curve track for all of it.
      The drivers just sit there and watch the machine and the auto steer does all the work 👌

    • @tomknight3856
      @tomknight3856 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha, nice! I was thinking the outside laps would be interesting steering an 80ft bar around some of those paddocks!
      I’ll be flying over that way on my way to Perth tomorrow, not sure how close the flight path is to the farm but I’ll keep an eye out for the seeder! 😂
