    Changed my fluid and filter today, this video was a huge help. One point of interest/tip, I didn't have a suitable pry bar or steel bar to put on my exhaust which is slightly bent and I was having trouble getting the pan out once I dropped it. What worked for me was taking a 1" ratchet strap and wrapping it around the exhaust and the cross brace to pull it down enough so that I was able to get the pan out. Thanks for your contribution toward my mechanical endeavors!

      It doesn't take long to drop the crossmember, but perfect explanation, thanks for watching!

    Btw, the exhaust is flattened like that from the factory.

    For people that dont know..dirt absorbs the oil or grease..just like what they do for clean up spills...also good for cleaning grease or oily hands

    The flattened exhaust was that way from the factory on our 2014 Suburban and our 2013 CTS-V, both of which we bought new (as well as every CTS-V I've been around). Good video and appreciate your time and effort!

    Most people don't know what machine surfaces are....so don't use dirt to clean trans parts (Brakleen instead) and if you think you might nick the seal surface on the pump intake just leave the old one untouched! By the way I own an inch pound torque wrench for tightening automatic trans bolts, best investment ever. And yes all those reusable gaskets beat any paper or cork one included with the filter.

      thanks for the imput, personally i would never use brake clean in my pan ( to each his own ) there is a film that brake clean leaves that will dry out clutches so fast, but again each his own. thanks for the comment.

    This is a perfect video of what not to do... dirt to clean filtered oil from the pan? Why not just wipe it out with a shop rag? All that grit grinding and scratching the sealing surface of the pan... Prying on the filter seal is a good way to damage the bore. A piece of 3/4" pipe will thread in to the filter seal to remove it without damaging the bore. The filter and seal should be lubed with transmission fluid prior to installing the filter. The pan bolt torque specification is 80 inch-pounds.

    Brian!! I changed before in easier way. When I let the pan loose, the fluid.So, I cleaned the pan and I removed the gasket, brushed the old gasket by iron brush. Put the new one and adjusted according to the halls. Put the new filter. Put the pan back and that is it. I never touched the bibe. Though, your way is excellent because I was not able to change the seal.

    I've always said that the North American makers should do like the Europeans makers do and have their design engineers work on vehicles so they have an idea of the problems the mechanics in the field have. Maybe then the engineers would design thing that could be worked on. Silverados are just basic trucks not exotics, they should be easy to work on, they are the bread and butter of the dealerships and shops like this one.

      Charles Damery That’s funny! I own an Audi A8 and I have never worked on a vehicle where the engineers did not give a shit about the mechanics as they did on this vehicle! As an example you have to pull off the whole bumper cover to replace any one of the 4 bulbs in the headlight assembly! Also they designed a LED tail light assembly with no way to replace any bulb! You must replace the whole assembly. The 4.2 was designed with the timing chains on the back of the engine and it needs to be replaced at between 80K and 100K which requires an engine pull! Never again will I own an Audi! I had a 91 Q45 Infinity that I put 265,000 miles on with original timing chain! And I ran the Hell out of that car! I could go on about the Audi which I do love how it drives but I will stay away from German cars and go back to Toyota, Lexus, Nissan and Infinity! The Japanese do electronics right that last!

    That exhaust is not bent, they are all (6L80e's) like that. After doing many, I came to youtube looking for somebody who might know a different way. But the pry-bar is the way I guess. And Loosening the trans mount bolt and jacking trans up doesn't work. The exhaust goes up with the trans.

    • @thomasbriansavingmoney
      @thomasbriansavingmoney  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      brake clean leaves a film, under heat with no movement, that film will harden. trans fluid can break down that harden layer, then you will have that chemical go through your valve body. if it is not a moving part, it will not break down the film left behind. not to mention, it is expensive and ewe are all about saving money, ha. great question. thanks for watching.
