Depressed by his own failures, he kept his daughter at a distance. When she reaches out to him years later, he at first tries to buy her affection only to learn that all she ever wanted from him was to know who he was, which was what he was most terrified to show her. Simply beautiful writing.

I loved seeing Sir Pentious getting teary eyed. It's those lil reminders that the sinners still have the souls of people and therefore always have potential to change and have depth to their beings.
Sir Pentious always gave off the vibe in the show that he wants to be "evil" and move up in the world like overlords do, but he's literally a wet noodle physically, emotionally, and mentally, so it's super easy to influence him, he's so goddamn lonely he'll do anything for admiration. Like when he had to give up his eggs, like he didn't want to, but the people he now respects told him to so he might as well. Anyway best character in the show
@@plus9775 could end up being the "evil" witches in the webtoon Castle Swimmer. They act like they are so evil, but they are more chaotic neutral to neutral good.
@@plus9775 I really feel that the reason he's in hell is just because he was influenced into doing something because of exactly what you said. He's a good person at heart but he's emotionally and mentally vulnerable, and so someone took advantage of that. Resulting in him going to hell after doing whatever it was he was manipulated into.
And Sir Pentious is a father who, as we've not seen his son, his son is likely in heaven and probably misses them. Or at least we can assume so from when Angel said "Daddy" and he replied "Son" like he was genuinely confused and hopeful. So he's probably got some feels about this parent/child moment
I love the fact that Lucifer LITERALLY sounds angelic! This songs literally the best so far imo. As the sin of pride, it’s fitting that Charlie is what he is most proud of.

God that fear in Lucifer's eyes when the spears aim at charlie. When they're aimed at him he looks depressed, like 'yeah this is normal' but when they aim at his daughter. God the animation in this show is just, perfect.
Love the direction they’re going with for Lucifer. Would have been easy to go the whole “yeah actually angels are all assholes and Lucifer was a good guy 100%” cliche which seems so prevalent in the last few years. Instead the guy legitimately seems to regret having given Free Will to humans but still feels like his ideas were never given a chance to flourish and that his humiliation was far too accentuated. Better yet, he believes his decision to have been purely wrong cause he has been shown ONLY the negatives of granting free will
"I've been dying to find out who you are" If that line doesn't just sum up the whole song. It sounds messed-up in a way, a father who doesn't even know his daughter, but the longing for it, and the resolution that he's learning now - it's beautiful.
Me when I was 21 and free from the abusive foster turned adoptive parent/would-be conservator and I found my dad online, hadn't seen or talked to him in 9 years (social workers lied about him and barred him from visiting at the orphanage for some stupid reason that he could sue for if he wasn't poor). Two months later i was on a Greyhound back to California to live with him.
Crackpot Theory incoming: In the Pilot that is considered canon as far as I know Sir Pentious reacted suddenly hopeful and excited when angel called him daddy, literally asking Angel "Son?" Sure this could be a throw away joke but maybe there is more there.
I love how vast Husk, Angel, and Pentious’s emotions are at 1:52. Husk just doesn’t care, Angel just looks sorta confused, and Pentious is just about to cry
I think Angel is amazed more than anything else. It's the first time he's seeing a positive / healthy familial bond, and the power it has. I'm willing to bet this is gonna be a turning point for him on his journey to redemption (In fact i think it's already proven to be so, given the next episode's events). As for Ser Pentious, yes he's already a big softy, no matter how he might posture that he's a big bad snake dude :P
@@SoulOfTheReaver Considering that Angel's relationship with his family was probably strained (except for probably his sister Molly and his mom) due to a lot of the gangster family violence and such, seeing a healthy fatherly relationship was probably a good thing for him to see as well. One thing I absolutely love is they captured the childlike wonder and innocence on her face PERFECTLY at 1:33. And the way she looked at him before Lilith took her away…she always adored her dad.
He is totally lying he is the father of lies and in this universe represents pride bro he is manipulating everything behind the scenes to get what he wants that’s what Lucifer/Satan does!
I love that he symbolizes Pride, but not pride for himself, as we see him so far of blaming himself and be depressed about his actions. What gave him pride is his daughter, a pride for his greatest creation.
I didnt realize it was him until the break about a minute into this. Something about the way he said "I just dont want you to be crushed by them" triggered my brain to go... WAIT THATS JACK!
@@TheTsquared2010I had the same reaction! I kept thinking, “why does this sound like Jack?” I looked up who played Lucifer and I threw my phone with excitement 😂
I love the fact that excluding Mammon, at least so far, the Seven Sins we know of embody a positive aspect of their sins. Ozzy is lustful but loyal, Bee encourages indulgence as a lifestyle not as a means of escape, and Lucifer is prideful of the things he has created, Charlie.
Yeah. It makes sense that Mammon would be the only one so far who has only shown the bad of their respective sin. There are many situations where it's okay to be lustful, prideful, or gluttonous. However, being greedy is a purely selfish thing, and Mammon reflects that with his selfish attitude.
@@cursedbeanboy142 Funny enough something I had to relearn in Therapy is Selfishness in healthy amounts is actually good. To be too much of a people pleaser at the expense of yourself is a crime to your health and quality of life. Someone who makes not a lot who wants to keep what little they have and doesn't have much to donate is a healthy amount of Selfishness in my opinion, it's okay to preserve your wellbeing first and if you have any extra to spare is where it counts. We can't give everything we have, we need to have realistic amounts of selfishness to stand up for ourselves, I think Greed becomes out of control when you clearly have far more than you could ever need, but refuse to give to others even if it doesn't actually harm you!
@@cursedbeanboy142 What's interesting is that pride comes in two forms. One which is the sin of hubris, and one which is the virtue of nobility. Most of the times, the sin itself is not the desire, but rather the excess to which that desire is acted upon.
You sure wouldn't expect Lucifer and his daughter to have such a wholesome song but heck. Expections are meant to be Broken and this sure is a stunning duet
Did anyone else notice at 0:35 Lucifer was imagining heaven aiming their weapons at Charlie, and to protect her from that he pulls her from the light side of the room (heaven) to the dark side (hell)
@@resonating6621 Lucifer's whole motif is the forbidden fruit, which is commonly depicted as an apple. Him using an expression that includes that to his daughter makes it pretty impactful, alongside the fact they're like father like daughter with their respective dreams. Idk maybe that's just me
I just realized that not only is this song portraying a touching father/daughter relationship being rebuilt, it also shows a baton passing between generations. Lucifer said heaven didn't listen when he tried something similar, and he views that as a total failure. But, Charlie lets him know that despite failing, his attempts inspired her and now it's her turn to try. It's a nice message that even if your goals seem out of reach or untenable, try anyways. Your attempts might just inspire the next generation who will see it through, you might have failed to hit your goal but you succeeding in paving the path for others to follow.
@MarieTheRingmaster my guess on why Charlie is taller than Lucifer is that considering Lilith is taller than him, genes might've been in Lilith's favor and so when she grew up she outgrew him and is possibly Lilith's height. If not maybe a little shorter.
When Charlie and Lucifer sing together at the end, Charlie becomes the main melody while Lucifer acts as a supportive vocal- parallel to their relationship now. I LOVE how they use this in the beginning- Lucifer set the legacy/melody that Charlie carries on for him- and the ballad flourishes with quite literally, Lucifer supporting his daughter in song and in her dreams
@@JamieMac323 Glad to see an actual father and kid relationship in an adult animated show that's not abusive for once finally. Take that Seth McFarlane Trey Parker Matt Stone and the other adult show writers. This here is a real one.
This version of Lucifer is WAY different than I expected from the Pilot. Back then, it seemed like he was probably gonna be a super distant and harsh parent. He’s distant still, or at least was for a lot of Charlie’s childhood, but…he also clearly really does care about her. He was scared by the prospect his kid would repeat all his own mistakes and didn’t know how to deal with it, but he’s still willing to try for her now.
Something tells me he was only distant because Lilith made it so. She comes in and takes Charlie away from him and you can see that his expression is sad when she leaves like it wasn't his choice for her to leave him at that time
It’s heart wrenching for many reasons. One I find fascinating is that we’ve seen other Sins in Hell, Beelzebub and Mammon and such, in Helluva Boss. They all embody their sin in some way. But here’s Lucifer, the Sin of Pride, and he’s basically lost all of his Pride. All he has left to be Proud of is Charlie, and he’s terrified of loosing her too.
@@williamstelmar9451 I agree that Lilith has something to do with the distance, but I think there is more to the matter. In the flashback we see that Lucifer in some kind of workshop with various saw; I have a feeling he was making a prototype of Lu Lu World as way to cope with his depression (reflecting the ideal world he visioned back in the day, perhaps) most of his time, and this may have somewhat resulted in him not being present in Charlie's upbringing; I imagine the small moments he has with Charlie gave him inspiration for some of Lu Lu World's features though; but overall, as this kept on, Lilith and Lucifer may have also become distant too.
I feel like when they split Lilith took Charlie and Lucifer felt he should give her space and as time went on it got harder and harder to reach out. To the point where he only feels comfortable reaching out when he has an excuse, such as asking Charlie to meet with Adam.
I also loved it. Husk was just cringing and begging for this to end, Angeldust wasn't sure what to think about it and was neutral, and Sir Pentious was straight up crying. Also, Charlie was just singing about how the dreams and her people are worth fighting for more than anything, and the animation showed all of her friends she managed to change for the better, looking at her with a wide genuine smiles and cheerful eyes. The whole song also touched me, and is my second favorite (1st one is loser baby), it's such a beautiful moment
This one literally got me in tears. Not only the context but the voices, the melody, the animation, everything so perfectly executed it was impossible not to get emotional.

@@ToxicAudri and in the second half of the song you can see the love in his eyes anytime he looks at Charlie. Especially when they are flying through the portal
It is heart breaking to see Lucifer absolutely broken to the point that he doesn't dare to dream again. In his broken state he unintentionally pushes his pride and joy (Charlie) almost away. With this sincere and heartfelt duet they have finally reconciled. Truly a magnificent and tearjerking moment.
My favorite part of this is that Charlie has been told by everyone, including Alastor, that her dream is going to fail. Even Vaggie, who still supports her 100%, isn't fully convinced by it. So when she hears this from Lucifer, she assumes its just more of the same. But Lucifer understands her more than she knows, and he knows just how much it hurts to fail. And he's desperate to keep his daughter from going through the same pain he did.
He was also dismissing her idea, but for the reason that he didn't want Charlie to go the same path that he did and have her dreams crushed by heaven, as he knows better than anyone how ruthless they are against change to the status quo. But after Charlie gave her side of the story, he realized she wasn't so different from him, and that talk rekindled the passion in his soul. So it was after that he became determined to help her try again, giving her the support that he didn't get.
Viv spoke in a community thing a few days ago how she related a lot to Charlie with how her dream of making the show felt almost impossible. And here we are all enjoying the show.

My absolute favorite song from the series. So wholesome and heartwarming. Perhaps my favorite line was "I'll support your dream whatever lies in store." The way Lucifer sang that line fills me with such positive vibes. Can't wait for Season 2
I don't know why but seeing Alastor and Niffty coming into view next to Vaggie and him smiling warmly - not creepy - is so wholesome for me. As if he sees himself as part of the family now instead of just having fun.
That and Alastor telling Mimzy off for bringing trouble to the hotel and NOT just deeming it his entertainment was surprisingly great to me as well. He didnt act like "how dare you risk ruining my entertainment" it was more like "how dare you risk harm upon these people working so hard!"
@@ziffy12 Yeah like...Alastor is still a monster at the end of the day. He knows hes beyond redemption and hes fine with that, and sure it might be fun to watch people struggle. However, he has a moral compass(Which is about as hard to predict as a roulette table) and I feel like he respects certain things that people do. He respects parents because he was a momma's boy and while we haven't heard about his father hes never directly spoken ill about him. Huh...now that I think about it it does make sense he was more mad at Lucifer for only now showing up to help while Charlie has been struggling this whole time.
I love Alastor, and as nice as it would be for him to be part of the family, I can’t help but think he has his own agenda for managing the hotel, chasing Mimzy off, and protecting the property; that “entertainment” is his cover story. I’m thinking he has ulterior motives. Whether it’s getting close enough to the Princess of Hell to make a soul pact, or twisting the hotel to his own purposes, I could totally see him becoming a villain down the road.
I really love how Lucifer may seem like he's not trying to reach out to Charlie, throughout the episode, we could see he was just nervous his own daughter wouldn't want him near herself, probably because Lilith left him. His "My daughter wants to see me. Take that, depression!" line is so funny, but also shows that he doubts himself to an absurd degree. This song is my absolute fave because of thiss
Ironically his own depression and fear is likely what drove them apart in the first place, he clearly loves his daughter and wants to see her, but he obviously still doubts her ambitious plan because he doesn't want to see her hurt or just keeps thinking how naive she is to Haven's ways, but she takes that to mean he has no faith in her or her ideas. Remember how the prologue explains how he lost his ability to 'dream', probably why he can only think about rubber duckies now, how heaven crushed his ambitions.

I really love this characterization of Lucifer. But what he forgets is that, he never could have truly foreseen what humanity would have done with it. One of his major character flaws is identical to Charlie: he often only sees the good in people without acknowledging the bad. Lilith taking Charlie away from her dad as a child is heartbreaking every time I watch it. You can see in his face how much he hates it, and it makes me want to meet Lilith even more now to get context for this. Also this further proves that Jeremy Jordan absolutely nails everything he touches.
Maybe Lilith thought her husband was too gentle. Not that I necessarily think Lilith was a cruel parent, but my theory is that she was extremely motivated to empower demonkind and avenge the loss of the sinners to the angels, so she didn’t want Charlie being alone around someone who might show regret for the creation of Hell.
@Mikotani I like the idea but I'm not sure I buy that yet. Assuming the flashback here is actually how things were, you would think that if Eve was as close to Charlie as this woman seems to be that Charlie would have mentioned her at some point. But we haven't seen or heard anything about an Eve in Hazbin or Helluva Boss. Plus with the lore that Lilith has been gone for 7 years just like Alastor, it seems more likely that she is the one we see here and there's something up with her.

Well, the Bible describes him as the Devil. However, the Bible is kinda biased to praise God and the true believers. Lucifer was his favourite before he was cast out of Heaven. Him being a broken and depressed being makes sense considering what he went through.

I thought Alastor was going to try and overthrow him, and he still might, but little details like this and him being seeming genuinely invested in the hotel makes me think he’s turning around. Minus the abuse of Husk
Idk it's probably more entertaining for him than anything he did say in the pilot he was bored so other than feeling genuinely happy hrs finds this entertaining. That's my perspective on that
@@michij3336 When Husk pointed out that Alastor is on a leash like he is, I immediately suspected Lilith. But that's just my headcannon...
Yeah I've been talking in other comment sections about that. My vibe is basically he wants to throw the whole system out and to do that he needs Charlie to succeed to some degree. So since only Lucifer could get her to heaven he flusters him in the last song and here he sits back and let's Charlie do the rest.
I think he is now genuinely respecting the relationship. Cuz aside from someone pointing out that he felt threatened with Lucifer being a kind of rival to the Hotel, I think he also wanted to rub it in how he thinks Lucifer's a bad dad (given how we've always heard of Charlie having daddy issues) So now seeing the two make amends, he respects that
I love that Lucifer was a loving dad who drifted away from his daughter out of fear of opening up and showing who he was instead of an abusive dismissive jerk. Vivz and her writing team really can write any set of family relationships and interactions believably, positive and negative.

As someone with a father who tore them down and left them feeling incapable of anything... I suppose I have some advice. Support her when she needs it, but try to make sure she can stand on her own when the time comes, by encouraging bravery and independence. Pay attention to what she needs and responds well to, everyone is different. Be patient. Don't stop loving her if she doesn't meet expectations. You probably don't need to hear this, since you're already invested in her dreams, but consider these as wishes for your and her success. Good luck.
The part 'more than anything' at the beginning sung by Lucifer showed only the damaged parts of the hotel as part of their background, showing that Charlie was the only one he sees and treasures in his world that had fallen apart. When it was Charlie's turn to sing the chorus 'more than anything', the guests of the hotel are visible as part of her point of view, that she's optimistic and determined to get the sinners into Heaven.

No it’s the whole song because it makes you think it’s a conversation between a loving father and his daughter telling her she will be protected by him
I think the thing I love most about this song is the looks of the other Hotel Residents and what they convey. Angel's bewildered "wow" face, Sir Pentious' touched expression, Vaggie's admiration and love, and the look of respect that Alastor is giving her. Each of them is getting a deeper look into the silly little girl with big dream's motivations and convictions and they are all inspired by her. Then there is Husk who's just still super disinterested.
I'm glad someone notice the resident facial expression. Alastor smile looks really different than his normal smile, he look proud of her work and happy to be there
Keep in mind for husk, literally minutes before his owner threatened to rip his soul to pieces and broadcast his screams to all of hell...... You might forgive him for being a bit numb and disinterested
0:29 I really appreciate the visuals of showing Lucifer’s past hurt and how when he’s afraid of Charlie suffering the same fate, he pulls her away from the light with him into the shadows away from heaven’s gaze. It’s a brilliant touch 😢
It sure is. Kind of a pity the pace is so fast and also that it conflicts with the first episode. If he wants to protect her from the angels, he shouldn't want her to interact with them. At all. Imagine if we could have seen him earlier. See him being distancing towards Charlie, while stopping her from meeting the angels. After this song we would have context for his actions then. A character that seems one way only to then be revealed to be another. It would be some great storytelling, which is why I am a bit sad the pacing is that fast.
I just noticed the details that child Charlie has music notes on the hem of her sleeves, and the center stripes of Lucifer's suit/shirt resemble musical staff lines (turned sideways). This would fit not just with this show being a musical, but with some theological interpretations that Lucifer was originally the choirmaster in Heaven before being cast out.
0:37 I love that you can see Lucifer panic at seeing Charlie targeted by the angels spears and pulling her away from it. You can really see how scared he is that they’ll hurt her. Enough to hide away forever, if it means she’s safe.
It makes me think that was probably part of a deal he made to exempt hellborn like Charlie from extermination. May even be why he "allowed" extermination to begin with, Heaven threatened end her existence. She's safe so long as he stays out of it and Heaven gets to force him to watch even more horror and suffering come to the people he sacrificed so much for. If that's where they end up going with his story.. it's no wonder he's so broken.
Ugh, I love that during “I won’t lose it all again,” the blades are pointed at Lucifer and he doesn’t care enough to get out of the way. But then at “you’re the only thing worth fighting for,” they’re pointed at Charlie, and he makes it a point to pull her away.
It’s really nice that he’s not just a dead beat dad but was clearly worried that by supporting Charlie she would end up getting torn down like he was. It’s not that he doesn’t believe in her but that he knows how horrible Heaven can be.
ALL of the fandom are IN LOVE with Lucifer and his voice but, it's PROBABLY owed up to the fact that his voice actor is Jeremy Jordan whom played the voice actor for Varian from "Tangled The Series."
Lol yup as well as light in death note musical amd jack kelly in newsies Nice pin pointing all the parts that still sound like varian in this though. And think this song was omlne main points for me
I was about to say “demons with the voices of angels” But then I realized no. They are angels - fallen angels. But angels nontheless. And so is Vaggie, and Angel Dust has angel in the name. They are perfectly representing the idea of outcasts being cast aside and shunned for being “defiant, or questioning their reality and taught morals” A great commentary on how mega churches have absolutely butchered Christianity.
I think the commentary you bring up goes further than just "mega churches butchered Christianity" (which I agree on that but). It could be as vast as any group casting out others with good intentions just for being different. Countries vs countries, or people of different races that go beyond country borders
i agree, with everything except angeldust's name (and I cant speak on the whole mega church thing because I'm atheist) but angel dust is named after the drug he OD'd on.
@@tobsonasanya4765 Compared to Valentino I'd say he wasn't awful though. Isn't his reason for being in Hell that he OD'd on drugs? Or am I missing something else?
"I'll shelter and adore you more than anything" you can just feel the love he has for charlie and how protective he is. As a father myself that made me tear up
I love how Alastor smiles in this, it’s not his usual sinister smile but it’s more genuine and it’s the most wholesome thing (besides the father daughter bonding) I’ve seen in the episode
For some reason this really makes me wonder about Alastor and his mom- Vizzie described him as a “mommas boy” and he’s mentioned her a few times in comics and the pilot I think- I really hope we get to see something of that
If I i ever do have a daughter I'm for sure singing this song to her so she knows that her Dad will support her so much of whatever she enjoys doing in life 😌
Love the symbolism at 0:35 Lucifer’s face just says “ok here we go again” but the next scene, when the spears are aimed at Charlie, that’s fear. He’s fine with himself being the target because, as Adam points out, most hated being in all of creation Lucifer, he’s used to it.
Yeah yeah and the way he pulls her from the spotlight. Like she's the light in his life but is also afraid that light might bring her harm and so swaps their positions so he'd get hurt instead of her.
Can we talk about how tenderly he holds Charlie while singing that she's the only one he wants to fight for and how much he means to him?? I f*cking adore that!
As a father myself, I can say that’s how any father should be. I like how it’s captured in this. My daughters the ray of light I helped make, and the things I’d suffer through, the things I’d do to protect that ray of light… to keep her smile shining bright… can’t be accurately put into words.
Now this is THE Adult Animation, not cursing every 1 second, but giving the series a deep meaning and emotional feelings everything with a balanced tip of humor
A lot of people don't seem to focus on how it must hurt for Lucifer to hear from Charlie "You don't know that" after he says "Heaven never listens". He was the first fallen angel, the first to experience Heaven unwillingness to listen, too afraid of change and too focused on preserving the status quo. It must hurt so much to constantly remember you accidentally created Hell and made a way for evil to get into the word, while everything you wanted was to share the gift of freedom. Poor guy, Lucifer. However, his voice... God... He truly was the most beautiful angel... Edit: Holy Charlie I wasn't checking the likes, thanks guys

I love the visual of the angelic weapons moving from Lucifer to Charlie. He looks terrified knowing those weapons will really be aimed at her if she continues on this path. He then pulls her away from their aim, like any good dad would
It probably has no deeper meaning than a choice by the animators, but I'm going to point it out anyway; During his musical duel with Alastor, Lucifer brings out his wings on his "pure angelic power" line, but they're not much bigger than he is. In this song, as it crescendos, he reveals his wings again; and they are _majestic._ It's almost as though, when he was unsure of himself and forcing things when he felt off-kilter, not knowing Charlie and feeling his space threatened by Alastor, he could only manage a smaller manifestation, but as he reconciles with his daughter and freely shares his emotions, he feels able to let go, and bring them to their fullest extent.
There is an interesting parallel with wings to be made to the later song with Vaggie and Carmela, "Out for Love." During that song, Vaggie's wings regenerate, and it is heavily suggested that they do so out of the power of love that the song directly references as the only way to win. It might be that Lucifer really was in a bad way before reconciling with his daughter, and that doing so helped restore him to his full power once again.
@@CJusticeHappen21 Not to mention, when Pentious dies and goes to heaven, his death (Seemingly) didn't have to happen. . .But he sacrificed himself to save the others out of love
@@pardusmk2595possibly because he was holding back FOR Charlie. Cuz notice when he was about to kill, Charlie said no. So, the average wing size could equal him keeping a level head.
@@Ixshs3a I was really impressed by the way he said “adore you” to and those two words might be a higher pitch because it shows how much he cares for his daughter and how she is the only thing he truly has left and the only thing he cares about in his world and he couldn’t bare to see her get her spirit get shattered by the angels like they did him.
I’m so happy that Charlie & her father finally had their own father/daughter song just like Stolas’ & Octavia’s song. Now we need one for Blitzo & Loona!
Oh my gosh, I would love a heartfelt song between Blitzø and Loona! It would have to be done right, as they’re both incredibly guarded characters, but it would be amazingly sweet to see. 🥹
I could see it starting with an argument that ends with them both in their own rooms fuming. They sing about what they hate about the other, but as they sing and process their feelings they start to realize that they aren't really angry with each other, just hurt and scared. Then they both slowly and reluctantly come out of their rooms and their disparate songs unite as they begin to really see each other and that it's safe to love and be loved. Then it would have to end with Blitz gushing over Loona and hugging her WAY too tight so she growls at him and rolls her eyes, but doesn't actually push him away. Then fade to black with her saying "I love you too... Dad."
0:35 the moment the angel's spears are pointed at Charlie and Lucifer pulls her away while singing "now you're the only one worth fighting for" made me cry. Was not expecting this song to hurt my feelings today xo gorgeous
Just wait until she gets back and tells him that the thing he was scared of happening is happening. He didn't want her to get hurt, and now Adam is targeting the Hotel on Extermination day

when Lucifer and Charlie are spinning each other, right before the portal opens, Lucifer closes him eyes. The emotions he is having right now are so big because he sees the person his daughter has become and he knows that she can protect herself, but he is so proud of her in that moment 😭

I loved seeing Sir Pentious getting teary eyed. It's those lil reminders that the sinners still have the souls of people and therefore always have potential to change and have depth to their beings.
This was such an awesome comment

Sad part is that Lucifer was right... Heaven didn't listen...
If you notice in the song he is the lead singer but then charlie was the lead singer and he "supporting" charlie
@MarieTheRingmaster my guess on why Charlie is taller than Lucifer is that considering Lilith is taller than him, genes might've been in Lilith's favor and so when she grew up she outgrew him and is possibly Lilith's height. If not maybe a little shorter.
Pure poetry.

He's also depressed

Now I feel bad for Lucifer. I thought he was gonna be an antagonist. But I was wrong
0:28 the way he says “and in the end” is just something else

Huh...now that I think about it it does make sense he was more mad at Lucifer for only now showing up to help while Charlie has been struggling this whole time.
nifffty is baby bean
I love Alastor, and as nice as it would be for him to be part of the family, I can’t help but think he has his own agenda for managing the hotel, chasing Mimzy off, and protecting the property; that “entertainment” is his cover story.
I’m thinking he has ulterior motives. Whether it’s getting close enough to the Princess of Hell to make a soul pact, or twisting the hotel to his own purposes, I could totally see him becoming a villain down the road.
Alastor genuinely looked proud in that moment, like it actually seemed to stir some emotion in him to be considered family.
"I'm grateful you're my daughter/father more than anything."
OKAY, I DID NOT ASK TO CRY TODAY, THANKS
It's hard for me to watch these episodes so I'm probably missing a lot of context, but why did Lilith leave him??
@@rezier386 You should watch the pilot that's on youtbe and was released as an indie animation 5 years ago lol

My theory: After Lucifer was banished, he lost his will to dream and became depressed, while Lilith thrived.
Even after having Charlie, Lucifer still didn't recover from his depressed despite loving both of them.
So, for the best, Lilith left Lucifer and took Charlie with her.
2:17 This line makes me stupidly emotional. And Jeremy's voice here, it just scratches my brain in a way I can't explain
I really love this characterization of Lucifer. He's not an evil villain, he's an angel who wanted to see the best in everyone, and so gave humans free will, and saw them do the absolute worst, most heinous things with it. He's a depressed, nervous mess, who wants to love people but doesn't want to go through that again. He's having a legitimate panic attack (the wheezing and chest clutching) at the thought of Charlie experiencing the same thing he did.
@@WisenedMansee, and the bit about it being all his fault is the most difficult part to swallow for him. Not because of his pride, as that is now rightfully placed in his daughter, but because he harbors too much guilt over his decision to give humanity the gift of free will. We as humans often forget that because of free will, its up to us to choose what we do with it; unfortunately, that has meant that large amounts of people tend to do unspeakable things with that gift. But what he forgets is that, he never could have truly foreseen what humanity would have done with it. One of his major character flaws is identical to Charlie: he often only sees the good in people without acknowledging the bad. And when the bad in people dominate, he feels responsible for such; unfortunately, Heaven didn’t help matters as they blamed him for everything, despite also knowing that once that cat was out of the bag, it was out of Lucifer’s hands.
It's a nice song and a clever story, but the devil is still very much the villain of mankind's story.
@@thisisaname5589 its down to interrelation. Lucifer is a fallen angel, who sought a “better” world and tried to gave that to humans but it backfired as humans are fuelled by our own need for greed and corruption - lucifer gets the blame for it as humans wouldnt be corrupted from the free will he gave.
I do not think it was malice, it looked like young Charlie suck out of her room past her bedtime to see her father and Lilith came to put her back to bed as it was late.

1:56 notice how both there and at the end of the song Alastor isn't sinister full teeth smiling. He is just smiling normally. Almost like he is happy with what is going on between Charlie and Lucifer.
My guess, she's using him behind the scenes to bring her family back together, and to stick it to Heaven by somehow getting Charlie proven right. And to REALLY stick it to Adam in the finale.
Cuz aside from someone pointing out that he felt threatened with Lucifer being a kind of rival to the Hotel, I think he also wanted to rub it in how he thinks Lucifer's a bad dad (given how we've always heard of Charlie having daddy issues)
So now seeing the two make amends, he respects that
I love that Lucifer was a loving dad who drifted away from his daughter out of fear of opening up and showing who he was instead of an abusive dismissive jerk.
Vivz and her writing team really can write any set of family relationships and interactions believably, positive and negative.

Not so sure about that, since the vibe on the original pilot and the series is quite different I'd say that the involvement of A24 writting was the one who pulled off such depictions of relationships
@@beoful According to Vivz, she said that A24 had little to no influence on the show... they agreed to more or less everything she proposed to put in the show. And so did Amazon. Nearly zero real executive meddling.

The look in his eyes as the spears go closer. You see the fear
He was in the light like he'll use his body as a shield to protect Charlie
@@DoodooTheDelulu It might also purposefully show how he has Hell behind him (literal and figurative) and is focused only on Charlie.

His eyes also start showing genuine fear at the latter point before he pulls her. It's a small moment, but really enhances what he's singing about.
It’s really nice that he’s not just a dead beat dad but was clearly worried that by supporting Charlie she would end up getting torn down like he was. It’s not that he doesn’t believe in her but that he knows how horrible Heaven can be.

i agree, with everything except angeldust's name (and I cant speak on the whole mega church thing because I'm atheist) but angel dust is named after the drug he OD'd on.
I mean angel was not a good person
@@tobsonasanya4765 Compared to Valentino I'd say he wasn't awful though. Isn't his reason for being in Hell that he OD'd on drugs? Or am I missing something else?

I love how Alastor smiles in this, it’s not his usual sinister smile but it’s more genuine and it’s the most wholesome thing (besides the father daughter bonding) I’ve seen in the episode
Also luci is such a Donnie kinnie LIKE HE REMINDS ME OF DONNATELLO FROM RISE OF TMNT

Funking hell i didn't notice that until I saw your comment and Dam that hit like a brick.
the fact he pulls her away from the danger too 😭
Yeah yeah and the way he pulls her from the spotlight. Like she's the light in his life but is also afraid that light might bring her harm and so swaps their positions so he'd get hurt instead of her.
Man I Can't Believe I Didn't Notice This Before, Thank You.

Yup. Hazbin Hotel is a massive win for both adult and indie animation.
I mean, they do curse every minute, tho
@@domokun845 OP meant that it's the depth and writing that makes it an 'adult' show, not the swearing. Unlike a few other adult shows.
@@domokun845The cast is in literal hell. There's 0 reason for them to give a shit and censor their pain, frustration, and anger.
I think we can all agree that this is THE most wholesome song in the show.

Charlie lashing out at her friends girlfriend and father as they try to help her with what's wrong with her Emily and the real Sir Pentious should be included too where they both try to help her with her friends and father's help with What is wrong with Charlie Charlie would trip and fall over and hurt herself screaming in pain due to not seeing where she is going as she fights the Adam Hallucination and Sir Pentious hallucination.
Emily the real Sir Pentious Vaggie Lucifer Angel Dust and Husk try to tell Charlie the Adam and Sir Pentious she's seeing isn't real but she's too scared and mad to listen but it eventually it becomes too much for her and she tells her girlfriend friends and father what's wrong with her and they try to heal and cure Charlie.
0:50 that delivery on "i'll shelter and adore you more than anything" has me turnt everytime. like he was STANDING on bidness
I love the visual of the angelic weapons moving from Lucifer to Charlie. He looks terrified knowing those weapons will really be aimed at her if she continues on this path. He then pulls her away from their aim, like any good dad would
Yeah, I think it says a lot he thinks they'd kill her.
Holy shit, I had never noticed that! That's the kind of attention to detail that just makes my brain happy.

Poor Charlie if she got killed Lucifer would become even more depressed
But in doing so, he pulls her out of the light and into the dark. In his attempt to prevent Heaven from crushing her, he risks doing that himself

Yeah until Adam tries to kill her breaking one of Heaven's rules
The animation is absolutely stunning. Lucifer is my favorite character. I wish i had this kind of relationship with my dad.
It probably has no deeper meaning than a choice by the animators, but I'm going to point it out anyway;
During his musical duel with Alastor, Lucifer brings out his wings on his "pure angelic power" line, but they're not much bigger than he is.
Mmmm, it really cool theory and Veggie wings just making it stronger.......but why then in FINAL battle his wings is average ?
@@pardusmk2595possibly because he was holding back FOR Charlie. Cuz notice when he was about to kill, Charlie said no. So, the average wing size could equal him keeping a level head.

0:49 Ooh.... the way he sings that line... I can't, it's too beautiful
The way he said “adore you” hurt me so much, I want him to be real so bad
@@Ixshs3a I was really impressed by the way he said “adore you” to and those two words might be a higher pitch because it shows how much he cares for his daughter and how she is the only thing he truly has left and the only thing he cares about in his world and he couldn’t bare to see her get her spirit get shattered by the angels like they did him.
That's Jeremy Jordan for you. He also sang a bunch of great songs in the Tangled series as Varian. I absolutely love his voice!
OMG I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO NOTICED. freaking loved it 😭😭
Jeremy Jordan kills it every time he opens his mouth istg
I’m so happy that Charlie & her father finally had their own father/daughter song just like Stolas’ & Octavia’s song.
Now we need one for Blitzo & Loona!
Oh my gosh, I would love a heartfelt song between Blitzø and Loona! It would have to be done right, as they’re both incredibly guarded characters, but it would be amazingly sweet to see. 🥹
I feel like it sorta would be arguing and that argument fades away and wholesomeness commences@@TheNitpickChick
Dad."
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS
i just realized that pentious was legit breaking down during this song and honestly i don't blame him

His look of horror at the sight of it as well broke my heart.
Don't know about you but I like thinking about these things as not hurting my feelings but revealing my feelings.

The fact that they recorded this IN DIFFERENT SESSIONS, not together, blows me away. They’re INCREDIBLE.
Is it real?
It's not that crazy my dude. You must not know how music is recorded or something.
@@FringeSpectrethere’s a certain reassurance or uh, ease in being able to hear your partner in person and singing along with them. Singing or doing music in general with a partner requires all of you to be in sync, being able to adjust to each other’s timings and being able to harmonize as much as possible. A duet’s already challenging to do, how much more when you can’t hear the other voice singing with you in real time?
@@adlirez again, you seem to have no idea how music is made. One person records their part. The other person sings their part while listening to that first part. You can do this as many takes as you need to capture the beauty of a true duet. You're acting like they moved mountains when they just kind of shuffled a pebble back and forth.

"I'll shelter and adore you more than anything" is such a lovely line. I can't explain, but I always fold when I hear it
I agree, and how the line is delivered really sells it too. He sounds so vulnerable.
Jeremy Jordan had a child fairly recently and he is, from the sound of that line, definitely thinking about his baby when he sings that line. It's just so full of emotion.
when Lucifer and Charlie are spinning each other, right before the portal opens, Lucifer closes him eyes. The emotions he is having right now are so big because he sees the person his daughter has become and he knows that she can protect herself, but he is so proud of her in that moment 😭
