The water tastes that way, because of the sulphur in it as it is a hot spring which means it is geothermal so like Volcanic.

I don't know where you live, but if you really want to go then its possible. If you smoke, cut down or better still stop and put the money ibn a jar. Same with drink, take a couple of nights off and save. In a year or 2 the money is there, and don't forget the money you spend at home while you would be on holiday can be taken too.

It's the awesomeness of standing on or touching stone structures etc.. that some Roman touched or stood on, nearly 2000 years ago.

When we go to our local theatre (Colchester) we park and walk through a Roman archway in the Roman walls to get to the theatre. When we were first in the USA I was telling a girl in a shop that we lived near the oldest town in Britain, founded in AD54. She was amazed. "Gee, that's old! 1854!" When I put her right she found it hard to believe me.

Thanks! I am a fan of history, in particularly ancient Britain. I really enjoyed touring the baths in 1998 and was interested to see the visual additions you've presented. When I was there you had to pay to sample the water. I didn't. When I was there a ticket to the baths also let you into the costume museum nearby, which was also fascinating.

I live in Bath! I haven't been to the Roman Baths myself for years, but it would be cool to go back and have a look. The Christmas Market is generally disliked by most locals because it makes the town unnecessarily busy and in some cases ruins business for certain local shops, but on the whole it's a fun event. Also every time I walk past Gong Fu it's empty but I'm told the food in there is pretty great, it's nice to see vloggers who are bringing recognition to otherwise hidden places around the UK, despite Bath's popularity with tourists, I don't see many people documenting it, and it always makes me really happy when they do (it's especially fun to point out places I recognise and be like, "Wow, these people are walking where I was walking the other day!")

I was raised in a rough, industrial northern town called Gateshead (not recomended for a visit, but Newcastle, just over the River Tyne is a cracking weekend party town). It's a shame you didn't get to see Bristol, maybe next time?

Since you guys are in the West Country, you should maybe go and explore a bit more of rural Wales. I realised that you guys love your hiking and the Brecon Beacons are perfect for a good days hiking (and that also have some great pubs!!)

Great little video very informative, so glad I subbed.
I love History and recently learned about the Belinus line that runs from most Northern tip to the most Southern point of Britain in Isle of White, it mentions Shakespeare being buried on it or just off along with links to other famous people like King Arthur and monuments that are built on it, very fascinating. Looking forward to your next video, and happy 2018✌

I'd always heard from Americans that British food was awful, makes a nice change to see you enjoying it :).

It's a misconception that built up after the second world war.

    • @overthewebb
      @overthewebb 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Yeah, I agree with Lewis it comes from the 2nd World War due to American soldiers being here at the time of rationing. It carried on for years later as rationing lasted a lot longer afterwards. But due to rationing it took a long time for our chefs to get back in the game and up to speed. Now we have some of the best food in the world.

You’re doing a great job promoting the UK as a really interesting place to visit, even if we do have really unpredictable weather.
I recommend if you visit UK again trying staying in a Shepherds Hut - a small but perfectly formed caravan. I posted a video on my channel of one I stayed in Somerset - ignore the not great video/sound but check out the cuteness - cider on arrival, a wood-fired hot tub and a farm field all to yourself!
We also stayed in another one in Hampshire over Christmas last year which had an outdoor hot tub.

I had lived 40 minutes drive from Bath, for 50 years ( I visited many times but) it took a visit to us , by Canadian friends , to get me to check out those Roman Baths. a World Heritage site. A case of, yep I know they're there, I can see 'em any time, and never do.

You are both soooo adoreable. I discovered you today somehow, you really compliment each other and have such a positive, fun attitude.
It's a shame so far you have missed missed the Dorset/Hampshire area? As someone who has lived across England, Nothing comes closes to it!! Miles of New Forest of Oaks Heather, Gorse, and wild ponies horses and deer, the biggest free four day airshow across beyond a doubt the best beach in the UK, Maiden Castle(A giant Iron age hillfort with the foundation remains of a Roman Temple probably commisioned by Vespasian. Durdle door, a natural coastal rock archway, it's hollow, I'm not sure if you still can but my dad scuba dived inside and saw light shining through and tons of giant crabs. Old Harries rocks( chalk cliff formations named after the Pirate who hid around them) Corfe Castle(not much left after the civil war, but so photographic, plus the ferry trip there is quite fun, and the village is pretty) Hurst castle at the end of a long spit surrounded by water, so close to the Isle of wight you can make out buildings. Cerne Abbas, An Iron age chalk hill carving....who is happy to see you ;). Badbury Rings, another Durotrigian Hillfort, which if you walk into the middle of it and look at google maps is quite impressive. Hengistbury Head combining ancient history and stunning views. And also the Towns and villages. Swanage is pretty and Durlston(a coastal area in Swanage is deffo worth checking out) Weymouth is the real England, still very English, yet scenic and Historic and connected to the Island portland(covered in forts and castles) across a long shale. Obviously Christchurch(historic saxon town with some very pretty streets), Bournemouth(with miles of maintained Gardens) Wareham, Winchester(the original capitol of England and Wessex, home of Alfred the Great) Dorchester(some of the best museums) *Stonehenge* 😁 .... aha... there's just so many more I could list!🙈 Anyway much love to you, and your country, our closest and truest friends. Stay safe in your travels and stay happy.

Great video, definitely will take a trip to Bath myself this year. Never realized how big the Roman baths were. Look forward to seeing what you got up to in Cirencester and Stratford. Good to see Eric developing a taste for spicy food: come a long way since almost dying from eating hot pepper sauce, ha ha.

Happy New Year, Eric and Alison! The way you guys travels are right up my alley. Regardless you're travelling on a budget, you still splurge a lil on food--Dare I say not many budget travellers do that. On top of that you got your own interesting way of showing it, as if Im watching 2 best friends enjoying a meal together. I can sense the genuine opinions u guys have.
I got a question tho...Between Bath and York, which town would you guys recommend? From your vids, York looks much more interesting. We are planning to visit UK this year (I still cant believe its 2018! Crazy huh...) Really appreciate all of your hardwork u put into each and every single one of your vids :)

Theres a lot more to see in the Bath area, I'd say but in fairness I do not know the York area as well. I recommend you visit outside of winter though, everything looks ten times better.

Devonian thank so much for the tip! :) Tbh i was tossing between Brighton or Bath. But lean towards Bath more just bcoz Brighton is a beach town I think and us Aussies got plenty of those :D ....York never was on the list. I blame these guys for their awesome film n editing lol.

No problem, Bristol not far from Bath at all is a a trendy and vibrant place thats often overlooked so I recommend visiting there for a day or so as well. Then there is so much in this part of England to see its crazy. Cheddar caves/ gorge, Wookey hole, Coopers hills cheese rolling, Stonehenge, Forest of Dean and Glastonbury Tor and probably lots more that I don't know about.

🎉 Happy New Year to you both. OMG another Asian meal lol 😋
🧖🏻‍♂️ Those wandering actors in the Roman Baths were hilarious 🤣, so immersive. I met the high priest the “wise-man”, he loved sharing his encounters. Those projections around the baths really put you in there at that time, I love it so much, very adventurous.
I found the ⚡️ Harry Potter book series in Latin at the gift shop there 🎁. An amazing place to visit! 👍🏼
