as someone with 282 ponziani games on lichess and a 66% winrate as white, and only 40% against this, i can confirm this is a nightmare to play against.
"Surprisingly, I feel cozy. It's like a wooden cabin in the midst of a blizzard. I have shelter." I didn't realize I was here for beautiful literature.
That’s insane, when engine says 0.00 it generally doesn’t understand the position, so you can play 5 best moves according to the computer and suprisingly engine will say black is winning
It doesn't mean "it doesn't understand the position", it thinks blacks has Full compensation or found a forced perpetual check line, engines are not programmed to give "i don't understand it" analysis, especially SF, a "brute force calculator" engine. Only thing is that in those positions there are many crazy moves that could be discarded by the algorithm and it was eventually a very good move with deep analysis.
it understands the position more than any of us could ever dream of doing, and it sees a prepetual check in a line and whoever tries to avoid the prepetual would be worse so the prepetual is considerd best play by both sides. occationaly it could allso mean a trade down to a tablebase drawn position if it has tabelbases enabled.
@@thec7889 I wouldnt say it understands the position. Engine just evaluates it by looking at specific lines and thats why it says +2 or -3. This is why engines were so bad at openings for such a long time. Now they are pretty good but mainly because they have book lines programmed into them and we can run them with enormous depth
@@Cephalon_Nodens humans dont realy understand positions eigther, we calculate, and we try to applie past experiences to the current position, but chess is so complex its practically impossible to understand any opening or midgame position
cxd4 Rab8 Qxb8 Rxb8 Kxf2 and 3 pieces and rook for the queen is enough, White seems already winning in this position. Qc2+ Nd2 may hold, Qd3+ Kxf2 too and any other move looks too slow to me. Still the best practical try
At 2:42, can you sac your queen for the bishop and knight? It’s four pieces for a queen and two pawns? Or is the fact that your king is exposed a problem?
because I think white can respond with queen d5, you lose a rook, take the bishop, then the knight is stuck in that corner for basically the rest of the game

Could you suggest some strong lines after c3?
i love it when I'm black because I know a lot of theory for this line and so my fellow ponziani players get smacked around sometimes haha.

It’s too easy
@@shashankd6742 It depends on what they do.
Fantastic. Seemed like pretty powerful ponziani counterattack ...Eric givess a course in patience and tenacity
He's a magician. Its incredible how Eric got out of this situation with 3 seconds left and kept his calm. Fun to see.
I appreciate the effort to explain every move, even when in a time crunch

That is… quite dangerous.
Analyzing this game with an engine and it’s possible sidelines is awesome, can recommend (opponent had mate in 4 in one point)
what move?
7:52 Qc2

No there is Qxb6 If Be3 Qxb2
You can't sacrifice at that point, but I'm pretty sure 4 pieces would've survived a queen.

Ponziani opening, also called Ponzi opening scheme by close friends and family
Thanks Eric for another humorous and instructive video . Merry Christmas to you and family .
My favourite opening!!!! Thank you! Please do more ponziani!!!!
Heh. Bongziani.
7:52 after Bishop take Knight white is just losing
Why didn’t black play Nxf2 instead of Bxf2+? 0:37
how do you not get nervous when the clock goes down?!?! that was amazing at the end.
Merry Christmas, Mr Rosen!
Hello, Mr. Rosen.
Merry Christmas!
While a don't think the Ponziani is any good for white, I appreciate the effort to explain some lines here.
0:37 why wouldnt he take with his knight instead since it puts a fork?
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.c3 Nf6 4.d4 Nxe4 5.d5 Bc5 6.dxc6 Bxf2+ 7. Ke2 bxc6 Halpin-Rogers 1980
Wow. The vukovic gambit is really nice but white is always on an edge to play carefully
The chess board looks like it's on fire, and Eric is quoting The Life of Brian with a resting heartrate of 60. Is there a Rosen Award for that? 🍕
How do you remain so calm which such little time left on the clock
I just had an ad on this video about a gambit and i watched the entire vid
More Ponzianiii 🔥🔥🔥
Down two pieces and computer shows -0.1

why doesn't black play Nxf2 on move 6 instead of Bxf2? Take the rook

Just got hit with this and handled it badly
I discovered this line as black early on in my chess journey.. needless to say, I was not ready
I fear I may not be ready
It’s so a joy to watch
LOVE this line for black. The reason I would never play the ponziani as white
Beth Harmon to keep it safe
nice one there
Why didn't black play Nxf2? 0:39
because I think white can respond with queen d5, you lose a rook, take the bishop, then the knight is stuck in that corner for basically the rest of the game
oh and then fianchetto the bishop and the knight is completely trapped
At 9:17 taking the pawn instead of knight might be better line for black
This line looks very Traxlish to me
Except its theoretically sound
