    I picked up my first antique bike last summer (49 EL) and started pecking away at it learning as much as I could but had to put a pin in it to go on a deployment to Guam. Very excited to see LC all gone through and all dialed in while I wait to get home to Pannie Annie (gotta thank the Mrs for the great name).

    Got a kick out of the " that does stink " statement about the rear tire's air that very well could be from the 1970ies. Great tools being put to their tasks are always a pleasure watching Brother Mike. The ole Pan LC is just about there.

    Very cool these little tricks are. Kinda reminds me of how a rivet works, only with the added function of mounting a seat with it. Very neat. Now I need to hunt down those mounts for my future projects, just in case.
    Thanks again for another great video.

    Greetings, & a small tip from the Greenwood (the big 'uns tend to appear in Spring).
    Rivnuts et al: Once one's orifice has attained the correct diameter for one's insert, taketh thy smallest rat-tailed or warding file & fileth one or two very small half-moon notches in the rim of said orifice before fitting one's insert. Once squeezed up & snug, you'll have better torque resistance for fasteners - even when high mileage vibes have had a good nibble at the fit.
    (Rusty threads in free-spinning rivnuts rarely, if ever, bring much joy to anyone's day : )

    I confess, the first time I drilled that hole, I did drill into the tire. But I did stop before going all the way in. I was still able to use the tire. Might not been a real safe thing but when you don't have a lot of money you have to use what you have.

    Hi Mike
    So enjoy your videos. I learn so much. I may have missed something or perhaps this is a dumb question:
    I saw someone else ask similar question, but to follow up. I have stock tires. Is there a reason why you can’t remove entire wheel and brake assembly by removing rear axle sleeve nut & collar after removing rear axle nut, lock washer and axle? On my bike, spacer falls out and wheel/brake slides over and off. Maybe I just got lucky.
    When reassembling, fitting brake hub pins onto wheel would seem easier to do off bike, then install wheel and brake together.
    Thanks much

    • @pacificmike9501
      @pacificmike9501  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it is problem of width. With that brake drum off of the brake, and mounted to the wheel, the space is not wide enough to push the wheel in there, past the brake shoes. Removing the entire brake assembly? I don't know what you have.

    • @tomsan9528
      @tomsan9528 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pacificmike9501 Right. Bike is a 1946 UL. Tires are 4.00 x 18. Stock brakes. Yes, my intent was asking why not remove brake drum/brake side plate while still attached to the wheel - so remove all with the wheel. Thanks again Mike.

    • @pacificmike9501
      @pacificmike9501  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      4.00 x 18 sure gives you more room to work with. 1941 was the first year for 16's. They were an option. I don't remember how long 18's were still available on big twins. This just gets more interesting by the moment.

    Ive never seen that insert, very cool. Mike can I ask you about the designation FLE, ive googled it and found it means "Traffic Combo" and it is geared lower and has smaller carb. Is that so and would it still cruise at 50 to 60 mph ok. Ive seen a nice 54 FLE Pan for sale so just asking.

    • @pacificmike9501
      @pacificmike9501  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I've seen it. So, I looked it up and Bruce Palmer III, who wrote the very useful book: Authentic Restoration Guide, "How To Restore Your Harley Davidson," has it on page 4. It says, "Mode FLE 1955-1965 special cam police 74 OHV." I'm just assuming that is a higher performance cam, but, I honestly don't know. The cam may have some designation letters on it. Again, I don't know. Truth of the matter is, it could have had fourteen different cams in it by now. Ride it. Change sprockets to suit your riding. Happy motoring. You may want to change the cam to suit your kind of riding. A 54 Panhead is a nice motorcycle. I have my 52 geared way high and I ride the Southern California freeways.
