Wow, two episodes in one week-we are spoilt! You are a great teacher, Mark. Thank you for explaining everything so clearly while still being yourself. Happy travels.
Another suggestion to possibly ease your removal of the impellers. Your impeller removal tool, may be difficult to get into position. Look at your replacement impeller, if the interior of the impeller has threads before the spline, you can purchase a regular threaded bolt that fits into those threads and bottoms out against the interior splined shaft. As you turn the bolt clockwise, the impeller will easily "slide" out of the seawater housing. This works as long as the impeller has internal threads. I am able to pull an impeller that has zero clearance against an engine part, using a bolt and socket, or if no room at all, a wrench on the bolt head. Wishing you the best from Canada.
Great to see Renée and friend get some quality time with you. Really enjoy all the different activities your having, just gorgeous scenery, and of course the maintenance is another activity I enjoy watching and learning about engines. Hope you got that Garmin behaving properly again. Thanks for sharing with us all, wishing you the best and safe journey. 🙂👍🇨🇦
Mark.... Another blockbuster from the Med..... Unexpected pleasent surprise with another episode. I love your attention to maintenance, and the detailed descriptions you do. And a nice visit from the girls. What a beauty - the Black Swan, looks well looked after. Keep up your good work - this is still the best Nordhavn/trawler life channel on YT.
Hey next time you are at or near a tool shop have a look at set of Rachet Spanners I think you would find them a lot easier to use . they come in imperial and metric.
You really can’t go around the world without doing the maintenance yourself. Way cheaper, better. always on time and done right. You are well on your way to learning it all by doing. Still you will hate toilets eventually which would be completely normal. Nice your daughter and friend could keep you company. A real nice Espresso machine must be on your Christmas list. You get the very best coffee every time that way - a must for any sailor. Lively weather and calm seas remain your friend. Best wishes to you and yours.
Thanks! Was excited to wake up to entertainment from Mark! Quick trip for Renee but I’m sure she wanted to make sure you weren’t getting too lonely 🥹 Love the N43s.. the 47 is one of my favorite models. Cheers
Looks like you were enjoying yourself in the South of France, it is a beautiful area to be, temperatures seem to be fine, you had some quality family time, good coffee, recharged your batteries. 👍
Ali and I spent 5 days a few years back exploring Nice, Antibes, St. Paul de Vence up in the hills and the markets, old towns and marinas full of superyachts - just glorious. The food was expensive even 8 years back but the quality was seriously good, especially the berry fruit and seafood. Watching your maintenance routines, do you also have one of those large syringes with the plastic hose on the end for putting oil and hydraulic fluids into tricky places - might make a few replenishments easier.
Yip Howie onto the syringes thanks to comments from followers. You two have gotten about over the years huh? Heading down the Spanish Coast now…hooked another Tuna but it flicked the lure in a spectacular jump. Got the dingy impounded and moved on by Coast Guardia since in Spain……hate to think what the French might be like on the Atlantic Coast!
Suggest setting up a line to the dock amidships prior to departure. Then all other lines can be taken off leaving just one to cast off which is readily accessible from the wheelhouse.
Conversely, when docking alongside singlehanded, lasso a bollard and tie up amidships. Then deploy all other lines at leisure and release midships line.
Agree. If a good deal of wind across the dock I have been advised to drop a line from the bow into wind and then simply reverse idle with starboard helm to lie against the dock.
Awesome Mark, making it look easy. Frejus. Sete and estepoma all supposed to be cheaper not sure where you are now. Outremere is in Aigues Morts, might give you a factory tour if you rock up in ANZ 😂 be safe. See the vest gome awol already
Kind of like all or nothing, when visitors show up. Too bad they didn’t have a tool package that comes with the boat. Yes, it’d be an added expense, but I’d imagine it’d be worth it.
I think you said you couldn’t get the impeller out of the water pump. To get the impeller out of those pumps two flat head screw drivers one on each side and just gently lever it out. That’s how I usually do it. You should be able to get it out with no problems. Also when you put it back in give the rubber blades a good soaking with dish wash liquid, that lubricates the blades and makes damage to the blades less likely on start up. You should be able to see if the impeller is ok without taking it out. I’ve seen them pumping heaps of water with hardly any blades left. I don’t usually worry unless the volume of water being pumped goes down.
Such little room for screwdrivers. Got an Impellor remover now so will take one out but if ok will likely not do the other. Apparently zip tie helps too.
Quite surprised there was such a nice anchorage in Antibes, and that it is was empty. Thought it would have been packed with yachts but I guess it is the end of the season. BTW I believe the huge yacht Tatoosh you saw in Nice was built by Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft. After using it for a number of years he built an even bigger yacht and gave Tatoosh to his sister. Nice present! You will have collected a large tool kit by the time you amass the pullers and odd wrenches and so forth needed to service all the mechanical gear on the boat. Let us know if you ever figure out a way to access that inaccessible spot on one of the engines to service a bit of gear. Interesting video, thank you.
I stayed in Nice for a week in '79 when i went to the Monaco GP . . Was a hotel that didnt seem to far from the train station Renee' . Checkout a band called . The Warning . . 3 sisters playing rock . . Take care till next time Mark 👍👋🇳🇿🍻twa
Really love the channel and all your videos, absolutely fantastic. Please use Kill Cord when in tender alone, and probably good to wear life vest too.. But Kill Cord is a MUST at all times, make it a habit.
When you were in the enginer room, you spoke of the solar power and the Bluetooth dongle, it was mentioned you were pulling 200 to 300 amps, but I beleive you meant to say watts as it is a massive difference between them.😉
Mark when you leaving the dock in Nice you didn’t need to have port forward and starboard astern. That action rotates the boat to starboard which you then had to counter with the bow thruster. If you just click ahead in port (which pushes the stern to port and the bow to starboard) and the thruster to port then the boat will essentially move sideways away from the dock then you can just click ahead both t9 move forward and clear.
Yes but surely by using astern on starboard it enables me to move sideways off the dock rather than forward which scrapes fenders etc. also if between boats may work well to move sideways?
@ astern on starboard when you are starboard side to a dock is going to pull the bow towards the dock the opposite of what you want. Port ahead is going to move the stern to port and turn the bow to starboard. The bow has flare so there is more clearance. In essence a click in and out of port is going to have the port prop act as a paddle wheel at first before you get any way on. That’s why it’s a click into gear and then back into neutral. A pulse of bow thruster to port at the same time is going to counteract the tendency of the bow to turn to starboard so the boat moves slightly sideways to port. Try it out in the open water. After all if you put the boat port ahead and starboard astern it’s just going to rotate in place to starboard isn’t it. Anyway my 2 cents worth. It’s hard to explain in comments sometimes.
@@morri03 sometimes it is better to just move sideways away from a dock. Can be that you are parked in or that you have a shallow behind or in front of the boat. In that case you put one engine ahead (the one away from the dock), one astern (the one closest to the dock), turn the rudder into the dock and control the bow with the bow thruster. With the engine that is in forward you control your speed going forward or reverse. It is a neat trick and indeed also ensures that you don't scrape along the dock, plus it is great when you are single handed. But it is also a great way to enter your space on a dock when you have boats in front and behind you. You just bring the boat parallel to the dock, between the boats you need to be and then move sideways. You can of course keep the bow tied to the shore, put port forward, have the stern clear the dock, then stop the forward movement, release the bow and move away, but when you are by yourself this maneuver is more complicated than the one Mark did. Both versions work, that is for sure.
Great seeing Renae again, lovely video, what on earth does a fan spinner tool look like? ( probably wrong wording for the tool to take the fan out from pump) cheers 🥃🏴
Thanks for a new video, love it. 👍 Have you ever regretted choosing a rather unusual and long name for your boat? I can imagine that sometimes there are communication problems if you transmit the name over the radio. 😅
Should be back on now. It’s a bloody nuisance when approaching a Marina as it shouts out all the time. Trying to work out how to filter. Just taking advantage of the good weather which will inevitably come to an end.
Can I buy you a nice 1/4 impact gun? It would make removing the bolts so much easier. You can still hand tighten them. We love your show and would be happy to contribute!
The prices are higher, not because it’s a tourist trap, but because of the quality of the food. In many cases artisanal produce that you can’t get in any supermarket
@ yes. Those saucissons are hand made and aged, the cheese is small producer speciality stuff. I would normally get all our regular shopping at Carrefour or Lidl and shop for Saturday lunch or a special dinner at the markets
I think most Europeans have a healthy interest in what the state of the food is that they are eating and unadulterated is best. Whereas the big corporations in the US have convinced many there that processing is "safe". In certain circles a statue of a man and a woman embracing is oppressive. Vive la difference.
