      Ive got a bike in similar condition. Hardly used and was stored in a damp garage. Took it to tredz ans basically told me it would be in excess of 200 quid and due to age of components it would be better i just buy a new bike. Not really sustainable is it. Id anyone is near carsiff who can offer service as good as this fella please let me know, thanks

  • @terrycorkum
    @terrycorkum 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Ahhh. The nature of youtube. I agree not being aware of the individual reasoning behind a bike being in a certain level of condition gives us the the only reason we should need not to leave unsupportive comments.
    Age, knowledge, time, and physical ability are some others.
    I for one take care of my bikes for general maintenance but the year end go over and tuneup I leave to my local shop. I work 60 to 70 hrs a week and actually enjoy supporting them and their efforts.
    Be kind to others folks. You'll feel much better for it.

    • @Bikespeeds
      @Bikespeeds  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s the nature of social media in general really. And it’s a great way of keeping bikes, it’s no different to checking the oil in your car or even doing the oil change but getting your mechanic to change the clutch. We have many customers who use us for the important yearly service or a pre A race check it helps all of us. Thanks for watching 👍🏻🧡⚙️

    Centering tire logos can be helpful detecting any spiky road presents that may have remained in the tire. It helps orientating when you pump up the damaged inner tube holding it beneath the wheel to see where the puncture happened. Much easier when everything is in order. We do it all the time in the shop.

    Really interesting to see how some components had a lot of corrosion/rust and other items looked new. This bike is now better than new thanks to this maintenance.
    You mentioned something in your video that I suspect many people do not know -- not all torque wrenches work in reverse. Very good point to make people who are getting into doing their own bike maintenance.
    Not a bike comment, but I'm happy to see the Accutron Spaceview again. My dad purchased one new (late 60's/early 70's?). It has always been one of my favorites. 👍

    5:54 I will never say bad things about such stuff before knowing 100% of the story.
    each bike has its own unique story. some are found, some are stolen and returned, some were used then forgotten... so its good to give old things new life.
    Hopefully the new owner / or the owner after the service will keep it clean from the moment of pick up serviced bike.

    Great service guys! Getting to know a lot on how to service my bike from you guys. I just got a multi tool and it has a chain breaker in it and that got me wondering, why cant 7-9 speeds use masterlinks? What will happen if you use a 7 speed chain with it? Thanks for making these videos as always. Love from Malaysia 🇲🇾

    • @Bikespeeds
      @Bikespeeds  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the chain just has a pin it’s probably a budget chain. I sell chains with master links and the links individually for single speed and 5 speed upwards. With a 9 speed You need a 1/2 x 5/16 chain 8 soles down is 1/2 x 3/32 so too wide to site correctly on a 9 speed cassette.

    Have been using AutoGlym on my road bike, which has a glossy paint finish. Really happy with the look and that dirt doesn't collect as readily. My gravel bike has a satin paint finish. Is there an equivalent product that will offer some protection without altering the satin finish? Thanks for doing your videos. I've learned a lot and improved my maintenance techniques significantly.

      I have a matt finish Canyon, and I really like Crankalicious Cycle Care - Carboniferous Matt Detailer. If you get any marks or areas that start looking a bit glossy from something rubbing, I have had a lot of success using a Magic Eraser (the melamine foam cleaning pads) that you can buy from the likes of Robert Dyas - it seems to create just the right level of Matt finish.

      You can find them almost everywhere if you google superslick cables, we get ours from a trade supplier so they’re not available for retail purchase but you can find them almost anywhere I’m sure⚙️

    All your builds have rusty bolts and nuts (Just a personal annoyance.) I use a Dremel and small wire brush attachments for the inside and out of the bolts and nuts. :)

    2:25 No wonder I agree, any bike brakes with DOT fluid are absolute garbage. I will never ever make a mistake of buying DOT Bike brakes.my first bike had those and the braking.... there was none 7 times serviced... it got worse.

    how much money do you make in every (full)bike restoration?

      He answered that in a Q&A video. He said, in respect to the industry he would not reveal any exact prices, and it varies, depending on time and effort anyway.

    I recently watched a Hambini video about the quality of these Boardman bikes... In your experience have you seen issues with these bikes?

    • @Bikespeeds
      @Bikespeeds  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The majority of bikes are produced to a retail price point. Boardman bikes are no different. Manufactures will often tick boxes so for example they might want the words “disc brake / tubeless ready” in the description and to reach the price point may fit very cheap bearings in the wheels or a low end saddle. There’s no good or bad really. One of the most underrated aspects of buying a bike it the build quality & how it’s been put together, you can have the cheapest bike out there, well put together that will out last a badly built high end bike.

    Don't criticize the people who turn their bikes in for a detailing. Criticize those who don't !

    Why don't you get a bike from a big box retail outlet and show how badly it is assembled. I had to look at a friends sons bike that would not shift ......ended up putting a wrench on nearly all of the bike , some things were thumb tight at best.

    Nice non-judgmental attitude towards the bike owners. We know nothing about their circumstances, so how could we possibly have an opinion about their bikes' condition?
    Thanks for all the good videos.

    • @Bikespeeds

      Exactly! Almost all the bikes have a good reason for ending up the way they are and the owners all care enough to have them brought back up🧡⚙️
