    This saved me a lot of time and trouble because I was looking into how I'm going to dry and recycle all this waste clay , You see I have been on a mission to see how much clay I can screw up and its been very successful if I don't say so myself, I'm making fairly large Ollas and screwing up anywhere from 7 to 15 pounds at a time lol

    Thanks a million for doing this and making the work to show me the result. I will put a bed sheet over the plaster bat I made for this purpose based on the tip in the comments. Hopefully, that will make it easier to flip!

    Thanks for the Hardie Backer tip. I actually used my Dremel to cut the tiles sizes.

    I like to use pizza stone type baking dishes. I also use a towel and water spray bottle to dampen the edges from drying too quickly. Not sure if it's quicker or easier, just how I recycle. I have purchased them all at second hand/thrift stores. It's ok if they're dark and greasy looking because the oil will burn out in the bisque fire. All but 1 is brand new, never used and thrifted for very low prices!

      That's a cool idea!! I'll have to give it a try if I come across a pizza stone! 😁🍕

    I use canvas covered wooden boards to slop the clay to recycle onto. I'm in Oklahoma where summers are hot and normally very humid, kinda like Texas. It usually takes severial days to dry out enough to work up and bag. I usually roll the edges into the middle of clay, as the edges dry faster. That keeps the clay more uniform.

      Since I have to do this outside on my porch, I loosely cover the clay slop with canvas, in order to keep bugs and critters out of the clay.

    I use hardi backer (fibre board) and plaster. Both work fine, but the amount of moisture in the batt makes a difference. Once the fibreboard is saturated the drying slows down dramatically

    just found this video while researching using cement backing for reclaiming clay and honestly? i think if i left the clay out for a briefer period of time (say, 8 hours, so as much time as i spend at work) or added a scrap of canvas to slow the water drainage, i wouldnt mind the hardibacker at all! i think that method would be a solid (heh) and much less messy alternative to plaster for impatient folks like me, haha. thank you for sharing!!

    I have been swadling the clay flat in canvas. almost like wrapping a present. It is easily flibable and unmolds easily to work it back again. thanks for the video.

    Amount of water already in plaster bat will make a difference in the speed of absorption.

      Very important to note! I keep my plaster recycling slabs dry, as they are only used for the purpose of reclaiming clay. 😊

      @@BlueNoseTrading Operative word here is slabS. Obviously one slab is not enough for a working studio.

    • @BlueNoseTrading
      @BlueNoseTrading  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I would say that is a matter of opinion. Everyone is going to have a different situation, and not everyone is running a full production studio. I have multiple slabs for my personal level of production, but I try to keep an open mind that everyone is living a different life and situation than myself.

    I just wanted to ask. When you reclaim clay do you need to get it to the consistency you can use a mixer to mix it well before laying it out to dry? I have found that I get very short clay if I don’t mix it welll. I’d love to be able to skip this step if possible. Thanks.

    • @BlueNoseTrading
      @BlueNoseTrading  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! I haven't ever "not" mixed my reclaim first. I mix it with a power drill and a mixer attachment until the entire bucket is the same consistency (of about pudding). I think it would make sense for unmixed clay to come out short, due to un-mixed and non-uniform particle sizes. But I can't say if it would always be short or not. I'd recommend you just mix to be safe.

    Hands down there's nothing better than plaster.

    Do you know what kind of Plaster is your Plaster bat made out of?

  • @chriswatson1698
    @chriswatson1698 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wouldn't allow the clay slip to be in contact with plaster. Lay a single layer of old bedsheet or woven nylon shower curtain on the plaster before adding the clay.
