I've been taking nutrofol balance for 6 weeks with the collegen and hairbiotic....plus I got hairmax band because that help me prior to the recent hair loss....my hair seems to have stopped overall shedding...I hope the nutrofol helps....
I also use virtue flourish density booster (non minoxidil version). Never used the band. I hope it all works. It may take 3-4 months to see a difference. My nails were the first to show improvement.
I started to use rosemary oil deluted in some other oils and it has worked wonders on my head. My hair thinned a lot after a chronic illness and is now almost back to normal :D
I had had enough of hair loss after having delayed any treatment for a full decade. Started finasteride oral (alternate days) on prescription + minoxidil topical every night and in just 3 months, the top scalp bald area is almost covered already and small hairs are seen now near temple area. Hair loss sucks.
Thank you for recommending Virtue with no minoxidil. I tried minoxidil previously, and it caused me to gain weight rapidly. As soon as I stopped it, the weight came off.
@@sherihiralal3852 yes, it caused weight gain for me. I gained 5 pounds in a short period of time and noticed severe bloating. This all came about without change to my diet or exercise routine. I read up on minoxidil, as it was the only new product I was using, and I read it can cause weight gain. I stopped using the product, and I returned to my normal self. My husband also was using a product with minoxidil, and the exact thing happened to him. Maybe we are the severe cases that experience that as a side effect.
I use Aveda color conserve shampoo and damage remedy every-other day. I also use the Pureology detangler afterwards - it works great when brushing out my waist-length hair. I go to an Aveda salon every three weeks for a tint touch-up to remain blond, and mostly let my hair air dry except for my scalp - it's gets too flat against my head otherwise. I get a dusting of a trim every three months - take loads of vitamins everyday, including biotin, eat a VERY balanced, healthy diet, and exercise. A few drops of Moroccan oil spread in my palms and then along my hair keeps it glossy. I only use heated curlers - they're hot enough.
I've made my own rosemary oil and my own rice conditioner people love how soft and luxurious my hair is, my issue is I don't see a lot of hair coming back. Been to a salon and they've said they do see growth. I'll comment more later.
Two questions: could you comment on whether using dry shampoo between washes is helpful or harmful? And do you have any thoughts about Vegemour serums?
I think its neither harmful or healthy, I use dryshampoo in the morning on my washday, then I will wash my hair in the evening. I don‘t sleep with dryshampoo on
I use HAIRMAX brand laser. headband. I have for two years. One year ago I added minoxidil 5% foam. I’ve seen great results with my androgenic alopecia. Years ago I used the minoxidil liquid and had extreme scalp itching. I believe the liquid solution has propylene glycol which can be irritating for some. The foam does not include this. Plus the liquid made hair appear dirty. Once I discovered the foam minoxidil and am really happy with it. For some reason people are embarrassed about using minoxidil/Rogaine, especially women. I think there can be a stigma. But it really works and having a healthy head of hair is worth it. Once you embrace the routine the Low light laser therapy combined with minoxidil pays off. Also, I use hair supplements and saw palmetto. I think a multi prong approach is a good way to tackle my hair loss and everything I do fits in my life style.
That virtue product is a godsend. I would encourage anyone who uses it but notices no change in hair shedding in the beginning (like me) to wait it out. I’ve noticed that virtue has two major effects - making my hair grow longer and reducing hair loss. For me at least my hair grew noticeably longer at the start of treatment while the “normal” hair shedding continued for a couple weeks. After that... 🤩🥳🥰
And we have to use silicones in our products!! My Derm educated me that it’s great for coating and protecting the hair and preventing breakage. (And it’s not even bad for the skin in moderation!!!)
Hi Dr. Ellis! I have a question for you in re: to this video! Does minoxidil have to be applied on clean hair? In the directions it says to do so, but at the same time, you mentioned in this video that you don't want to over wash you hair. Thank you!! I love your content! :) A great suggestion for a video would be minoxidil dos/donts and the correct way to apply it!
Good information, but a quick note that K18 is a temporary wheat based protein treatment using a peptide to help it reform the hair similar to keratin. There is a study from the 90s about cell adhesion with wheat proteins that they based the Khairpep brand on, aka k18.
Hard water is an issue, especially living in a major city. What I have been doing to combat the noticeable damage are 2 things: 1) wash out shampoo with only distilled water; and 2) once a week use an apple cider vinegar/distilled water rinse. On a daily basis I massage my scalp for about 5 minutes with a hand-held scalp massager. Since I suffer from a bad case of psoriasis, inclusive of the scalp, my shampoo selections are limited to conventional treatments (i.e., zinc, coal tar, ketoconazole, etc.). Any suggestions, feel free to comment, Dr. Ellis
Hello Dr. Ellis, thank you for this video. I have thyroid problems and of course this affects my hair. I've always had thick curly hair but for me personally a course of Liquid Biotin really makes a difference. Lisa, Galway, Ireland
The problem with minoxidil is people will have to keep taking it indefinitely, or any hair growth they achieve with it will stop. Also, there are studies that showed rosemary oil was just as effective.
I would like to see further studies on these laser treatments such as do they trigger/cause any atypical moles or other lesions, or possibly accelerate any predispositions to such.
I’ve been using the entry level (cheaper, NOT Pro) since January and it is fantastic. It really does work but you have to keep using it. I forgot to use it much over a couple weeks and started losing hair again. I’m back using it regularly again and all is well again. (I’m 50 and losing hair from peri menopause.)
@@ingridk1033 I was shedding A LOT before I started using it. Handful every hair wash. After about 4 weeks I noticed a significant decrease in shedding. It was probably close to2 months when the shedding nearly stopped. It is night and day difference. I’ve had mine since January and love what it has done for me. I noticed last week that Costco now carries the PRO version and this month it is nearly the same price as the lower version that I have. The difference between the versions is the pro has more lasers . Hopefully mine lasts a long time for the price I paid but when it dies, I will buy it from Costco (on sale I hope)
When I was young I had thick healthy hair. But in my forties each hair started becoming thinner now my hair is baby fine. I’d love a way to make each hair thicker, that would give me thicker hair.
Hi Dr. Ellis! Thank you so much for this video. One thing I’m confused on is whether or not we should massage our scalp to stimulate blood flow to the scalp, whether in or out of the shower? Isn’t that creating friction that could damage the hair? Thank you so much in advance! 🥰
have you done a video on how to treat puffy skin? my face and eyes can get super swollen and i was wondering if you had any tips for treatment and prevention:)
I've started taking amino acids in tablet form and biotin and that has helped my hair growth and scalp hair density a little. I also use a silk pillow and try to use silk scrunchies. I also watch the ingredients in shampoos and avoid sulphates and other harsh detergents and ingredients.
The Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate is incredible at smoothing and strengthening my bleached hair. I like it much better than the K18 and Olaplex Bond smoother.
The iRestore is an amazing product and totally works. My only concern is the fact that I have Lichen Planopilaris and when I talk to my doctor about this device, they don't know anything about it and whether it is safe to use? I like it but wondering if you have any thoughts? Thank you for creating wonderful content and super helpful information.
Hi and I’m at the point that I’m scared to comb and wash my hair. Upset with seeing hair in the shower and on my brush. My hair been shredding since the early 80’s. I do use a laser cap every other day but it’s a cheaper brand. Also, I apply African black castor oil on my scalp occasionally. Been informed that it thickens the hair. My last name is Ellis so maybe we could be related.
Thank you for sharing with us!! GOD BLESS! 😭🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻💕💕💕 that shampoo you recommended for dandruff FINALLY cleared my head of itchy dandruff!! Took about a month tho but thank youuu!!
I tried both Olaplex no 3 and K18 and it was very interesting seeing the results. K18 didn't really work on my hair unfortunately but olaplaex did so much!
I love Aveda Invati products. I use mostly the shampoo and conditioner, though I’ve tried the other products and like them. I didn’t take them when I spent 6 weeks traveling with only carry ons, I just used the hotel brands and the result was disastrous. Major hair fallout. I always travel with them now. And I recommend them to others. No idea why they work, but for me they do.
I have male pattern baldness and successfully treat it and have a full head of hair using daily 1.25mg of finasteride, 5% minoxidil foam, 2x week Nizoral shampoo leave on (15 mins) and wash. I also monthly leave 2% salicylic acid shampoo on for a few hours to exfoliate my scalp. It leaves some flakes for a few days. My question is, does exfoliating one's scalp help with minoxidil and Nizoral penetration or otherwise help prevent male pattern baldness?
Hi Sam, great informative video, thanks! Regarding minoxidil, I’ve had horrible headaches using it, which caused me to stop. I tried to alternate and use only every other day or even every 3 days, but I felt it did something weird to my head / eyes. What’s the reaseach behind the irestore helmet and hair growth? Thank you!
Please be careful using minoxidil there’s a lot people don’t tell you. I was told to use it and that there’s nothing wrong with it, it’s safe etc. PLEASE READ THE SIDE EFFECTS BEFORE YOU BUY IT. For me it was awful the nausea was unbearable, I was sick and had headaches, difficulty breathing and my scalp was a big fat scab.
Maybe My family and I should split the cost for the irestore because my mom and I and my two brothers suffer from women and male pattern hair loss terriblyyy. My brothers are 23 and 27 years old and about half their head is balding so bad already. My mom has bald spots and I’m the only one who’s hanging on but it’s definitely thinning like crazy. But we’re poor so maybe if a couple of us split the cost lol.
I play with my hair all throughout the day. I do it without thinking about it. I was hoping it smoothed the cuticle and NOT that it causes friction! I am trying to have super healthy hair. I’m not sure I want to stop this habit but it does give me pause.
Thank you! Lost tons of hair from Covid and the hair left is such a strange texture. It's still breaking a ton. (PS- do you whiten your teeth? If so, can you do a video on that?)
Hi Annette. Have you tried any of the Olaplex products or the K18 she mentioned? I've used both. I personally like the Olaplex #6, which is a leave-in lotion that you put on hair after you've washed it. I use some other Olaplex products too, but just that one product alone, made such a huge difference in my hair being stronger and not breaking, hardly at all. I've only recently started experimenting with the K18. A big bottle is super expensive but there's a mini size available at Sephora for about $30, and it turns out to have a good 10-15 applications worth of product in it. I do notice some improvement in hair strength and softness with that too.
@@Just4FunAsAlways I'm sorry to hear that these weren't a miracle fix, but I'm glad you're getting some benefit from them. I never got Covid, but my hair was shedding and breaking like crazy during and after the stress of 2020, and also I think just from getting older and natural hair thinning. I'd comb my hair every morning in the shower with lots of conditioner and a detangling comb, and still so much broke off and came out when I was combing it. That's until I started using the Olaplex every day but I also started doing something else, which was sleeping with a sleeping cap on my head so my hair wasn't getting so roughed and tangled up on the pillow case every night. I don't know if you do that already, but it might also help minimize the breakage. If your hair is on the drier side and you don't mind a little light oil in it, I also sometimes use the Olaplex #7 oil and mix it in my palms with the #6 - I've had great results with it. Wishing you success!
I was shocked to see your post because i have determined that Covid Vaccine (2) one totally stole my hair. I did have covid 10 months prior to losing my hair. The only thing that lines up with the hair loss and reasons why leads to it. I had one length hair middle of ny back , now its to my shoulders. And with layers. I hate it so bad. Hopefully some of these treatments will help restore it back
Thank you for all of this valuable information! Why can’t women reportedly use topical minoxidil while breastfeeding? Not surprisingly there is conflicted information out there. I would appreciate your help clarifying this!

I have mine freshly arrived, I have used it twice already, I hope it works. I am also taking oral minoxidil, 5 mg finasteride and 50 mg bicalutamide per day.
Oh, and I’m using The Ordinary serum for hair density as well. :D
I have all my weapons engaged in the battle.
Thank you for the video on hair.
Love it! Tackling hair loss from all angles is the way to go strong 💪🏼
You can buy rosemary oil at GNC, just put a drop in your shampoo. Careful, too much may cause irritation or rash.
Nutrafol worked for me. I recently added their collagen product and that was a great addition. My hair and nails are super strong.
I'm 55 and went thru major hair loss from I believe medication...I had long this hair...it was devastating. I stopped all meds.
I go too sleep with wet hair but realize from your video that I should dry it. Thankyou.
I do take a vitamin supplement
I started to use rosemary oil deluted in some other oils and it has worked wonders on my head. My hair thinned a lot after a chronic illness and is now almost back to normal :D
PRP, at home microneedling & a minoxidil solution are my go-to’s. Thanks for the tips Dr E!
I just got my roller, I’m excited
Would you mind sharing the name of your at home microneedling device?
I had had enough of hair loss after having delayed any treatment for a full decade. Started finasteride oral (alternate days) on prescription + minoxidil topical every night and in just 3 months, the top scalp bald area is almost covered already and small hairs are seen now near temple area. Hair loss sucks.
Thank you for recommending Virtue with no minoxidil. I tried minoxidil previously, and it caused me to gain weight rapidly. As soon as I stopped it, the weight came off.
What 😱didn’t know it can cause weight gain
How do you make the rice conditioner?
Two questions: could you comment on whether using dry shampoo between washes is helpful or harmful?
And do you have any thoughts about Vegemour serums?
I think its neither harmful or healthy, I use dryshampoo in the morning on my washday, then I will wash my hair in the evening. I don‘t sleep with dryshampoo on
It doesn't really wash hairsso..
Olaplex shampoo and conditioner has really helped my hair. It has thickened and become healthier.
I use the hairmax band for 6 months...good results as well.
So great to hear your experience with the product. I’ve been super happy with it too.
Love my microfiber hair towels. Awesome for soaking up water and lightweight.
Ellis
I stopped my five-year-long hair shed with rosemary water and oil. It is really worth a shot.
Not a fan of sponsored videos that focus so heavily on the sponsor's product.
$400 discount?! That’s actually pretty amazing
Hello Dr. Ellis, thank you for this video. I have thyroid problems and of course this affects my hair. I've always had thick curly hair but for me personally a course of Liquid Biotin really makes a difference. Lisa, Galway, Ireland
I'm seriously in love with this video
The problem with minoxidil is people will have to keep taking it indefinitely, or any hair growth they achieve with it will stop. Also, there are studies that showed rosemary oil was just as effective.
How often do you recommend washing your hair??
I found that hennè makes hairs so thik and shiny :)
Nizoral is fabulous. First thing that worked.
I would like to see further studies on these laser treatments such as do they trigger/cause any atypical moles or other lesions, or possibly accelerate any predispositions to such.
You can google the research. They have been used for years, just now becoming popular with anti-aging and hair regrowth.
Whilst using it .. do you shed hair ? Another lady said she did which makes me nervous .. Thankyou so much
@@ingridk1033 I was shedding A LOT before I started using it.
I would be careful with the irestore helmet. Some people said they lost more hair with this device over time.
The K-18 has indeed been great for my hair!~
You deserve far more followers
Can you discuss you stance on 5% over 2% … as a master cosmetologist I’ve always been taught to not allow women to apply 5% minoxidil
Super helpful video! Would love if you could do a video specific about curly hair care.
I would love to hear more infor on this also.
have you done a video on how to treat puffy skin? my face and eyes can get super swollen and i was wondering if you had any tips for treatment and prevention:)
I've started taking amino acids in tablet form and biotin and that has helped my hair growth and scalp hair density a little. I also use a silk pillow and try to use silk scrunchies. I also watch the ingredients in shampoos and avoid sulphates and other harsh detergents and ingredients.
What amino acids do you take?
You look like a princess dr Ellis! Love your channel.
The Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate is incredible at smoothing and strengthening my bleached hair. I like it much better than the K18 and Olaplex Bond smoother.
Ooh I need to try it!
I disagree regarding rosemary. IMMEDIATE stoppage of hair loss for me.
💯Agree❣️
And minoxidil did nothing for me
It made my hair fall out more😕
Thankyou
ME Hair totally worked for my hair regrowth. And I tried so many other products with no success. Try ME Hair, it's great
The iRestore is an amazing product and totally works.
Thoughts on scalp exfoliating/shampoo brushes in general, and more specifically, for someone already experiencing hair loss?
Also would greatly appreciate a daily makeup video if anything since the last video has been updated🥲
I wish they made a fragrance free Nizoral.
Love the information and the practicality of it♥️♥️♥️
I love Aveda Invati products.
Applying oil on the scalp can lead to more shedding ?
Would you mind doing a video on PRP treatments vs exosome injections for hair loss please?
Hi Sam, great informative video, thanks! Regarding minoxidil, I’ve had horrible headaches using it, which caused me to stop. I tried to alternate and use only every other day or even every 3 days, but I felt it did something weird to my head / eyes. What’s the reaseach behind the irestore helmet and hair growth? Thank you!
Loved this
Please be careful using minoxidil there’s a lot people don’t tell you.
How long did you take it and when did your side effects kick in?
Maybe My family and I should split the cost for the irestore because my mom and I and my two brothers suffer from women and male pattern hair loss terriblyyy. My brothers are 23 and 27 years old and about half their head is balding so bad already. My mom has bald spots and I’m the only one who’s hanging on but it’s definitely thinning like crazy. But we’re poor so maybe if a couple of us split the cost lol.
That's a good plan! My husband and I share the device also.
I play with my hair all throughout the day. I do it without thinking about it. I was hoping it smoothed the cuticle and NOT that it causes friction! I am trying to have super healthy hair. I’m not sure I want to stop this habit but it does give me pause.
Surface awaking system is amazing!!!!
Love your channel! Can you do a video on cleaning makeup brushes/ sponges . How often and how to?!
Love Virtue but had to give it away because the lavender made my scalp go crazy.
Thanks Dr. Ellis 🤍
@@nyamoonshadow3259 Thx. Just bought both. Still seems like its breaking, but softer
Thank you for this video! I just ordered a bunch of your product recommendations.
Would love to know how they worked for you ❤
Thanks for the shoutout! 🫶♥️🥰
looking forward to more haircare videos!! there are so few haircare videos from board certified dermatologists online:(

Thank you Doctor. ♻️
Not me literally twirling my hair so it intertwined in my fingers right when you mention hair twirling
What about the side effects from using products like Rogaine specifically cardiac??
Please clarify the difference between fine hair (skinnier individual hairs) and thinning hair (fewer hairs) and respective treatments.
Do you have before and after photos? Will other laser hair devices work? The virtue product is out of stock unfortunately. Thanks.
Thank you so much for this video
So informative! Thank you❤️
hi, what do you think about using minoxidil while having a cat at home? i heard its dedly for them but i really want a proffesionals opinion
I used virtue but heard they have silicones in their products, is that true, I love the density booster though. I also use the Michael Van Clarke steps. UV shampoo/conditioner because I colour my hair and great in the summer months, the life saver on towel dried hair to nourish/detangle, then his thicker quicker on the roots and mousse on mids to ends, my hair has been fabulous. I also use a silk pillow and aquis hair towel. My hair is still fine but I know it’s condition is good. I do love your videos and instagram though Sam 👏🏻👏🏻
Hey Dr. Ellis!!!! I ADORE you and your channel!!!! I have been suffering with severe hair loss for years due to poor internal health due to severe medical conditions- so I don’t have a traditional style of hair loss because of my deficiencies…. I am 25. And for my birthday , we got me the I Restore Pro, and I have been Loving it! It’s been 2 months so far, but I am so hopeful and will continue to be consistent with it! ♥️ so glad I made the investment! I also use K18 and olaplex 💕 I was looking into the Virtue NON minoxidil as well… not ready to start minoxidil! Have you ever heard of Vegamour? 💗
I've been wondering about that Vegamour as well...
Thank you for this video! I have fine and thin hair to begin with and also have pretty significant postpartum hair loss after 2 babies in 2 years.
One area I cannot get a consensus on is whether one should sleep with hair up or hair down? Do you have an opinion on which prevents breakage? I sleep on a silk pillowcase. Thanks!
I would say to not put it in any kind of hair tie when you sleep. Any thing that pulls the hair asleep or awake could lead to additional hair loss

"Avoid playing with your hair, twirling your hair"
Me rn: twirling my hair without even noticing.
Dr. Ellis, is it safe for your baby to look up at the laser lights?
I have another brand, and it came with warning to never look directly at the laser lights. Maybe they were just being overcautious or the lasers are different.
Just tried ordering and that code is not valid ☹️unless it’s just for the professional, which you didn’t specify.
Hi is nizoral shampoo safe? Does it interact with any medication's? Thanks so much!
Amazing and great video, Thank you : )
