I had a face and neck lift at age 50. The surgeon said he set the clock back by 10 years. I would always look 10 years younger than my age. Now, at age 70, I find this is true. I don't look 50 again, I look 60. I have always been glad I had the facelift. Best money I ever spent. I say if you can afford it, do it!
@eringaines After 3 weeks, I went back to work. My job didn't require any physical exertion, and I was able to take breaks to apply ice packs to my cheeks. After six weeks, I was able to sleep on my side again. Up until then, my ears were too sensitive. I would advise you to plan for two months of taking it a little easy. No gym, other physical exertion, or chemical hair treatments. Your incisions will be hidden in your hair and behind your ears. Good luck with your facelift! You will love your results.
I’m sad that surgery is the only way to solve lower face sagging. I’ve not had good results with filler and have had new problems arise with the use of them. It’s hard to accept an aging face. I’ve really been struggling with it. When I look in the mirror and pull my skin back, I say to myself hi, I miss you! I’m thankful to have good skin at least, and I’m told I look younger than my age, but I still don’t feel attractive anymore. People say it’s vain, but I just don’t feel like myself. I can’t afford a facelift so it is a matter of acceptance. It’s not easy.
I bet you are beautiful. I am developing jowls (am 54) but am trying to use contour under my chin. I am not really bothered by it though and thank my face for getting me this far in life.
I only use topical treatments such as retinol or exfoliating products and I think it’s good enough. I also wear sunscreen. Going under a knife for anything is serious and risky. I feel a bit rebellious about surgery. Maybe one day I will look “old” and people can gasp and be glad they had surgery 😅 See Twilight Zone Number 12 looks just like you 😊
Truth. All the money spent on promises from cosmetic companies could have paid for a surgical FL by now. Put away a thousand a year starting at age 25, and you're ready by 55.
I am 60 and I have jowls. I will not be doing any surgery. It's a genetic trait passed down by my mother. I love my mother. I look like my mother did at my age. Now she is 90. My mother is and always was a beautiful woman. I don't feel that jowls or wrinkles render any woman "not beautiful". In other words, a mature woman can have jowls and wrinkles and still be beautiful. I choose to see myself as beautiful and that is how I make peace with my aging face and firm decision to not do surgeries, botox or fillers. However, I fully support other women who choose to do it. I have witnessed some great results! I think it's a personal choice and whatever a mature woman wants to do in order to feel her best, most confident, beautiful self, is exactly what she should do. When we feel good about ourselves our own "well" is overflowing. We then have enough to give a cool, refreshing drink of water to someone else.
Very well said. So tired of women being shamed for having cosmetic procedures and women who choose to do no procedures being declared heros! Why does anyone care what another woman chooses to do with her face and/or body?
@@kristirichards2249 Thanks! We know that cosmetic procedures and surgeries cost a lot of money. Not every woman has this kind of money at her disposal. Therefore, I sometimes think that there can be some jealousy behind the catty remarks about women who can afford the procedures and get top notch "work" done and come out looking great and youthful. For me, personally, I don't have the money for any of that stuff. Instead, I just make peace with my "aging" face. However (and this is the caveat) I have a great complexion at 60 years old. That much has always been within my control and I started taking immaculate care of my skin starting at the age of 11. I do invest in high end "anti-aging" products and have been religiously using "actives" for many years now. There are so many retinols and exfoliating and hydrating "acids" in skin care products that really can shave off years from the face. Reducing or eliminating wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. Also, I have been drinking apple cider vinegar (ACV) every day for the past 30 years and this tonic does wonders for the complexion. That being said, having great skin is wondeful (BUT) it can not do anything about "facial structure" and that is genetic. Therefore, as I mentioned, I do have jowls, yet, I still think that I am pretty. I am happy with myself and I really applaud women who invest in having procedures done and great face lifts, because we only get one life to live and every single woman likes to feel pretty, gorgeous and beautiful!!!!!
Thank you for your honesty. I am sick and tired of cosmetic professionals that go on the record and push Botox and fillers to solve facial skin. The only solution is surgery. Many of us don’t want to consider such drastic and invasive procedures but it’s the only thing that will actually solve sagging skin and muscle. I appreciate your honesty. I follow some cosmetic doctors on this platform and the information is consistent.
I had a "mini" facelift or ponytail facelift that only addressed my jowls at age 68 and I'm 70 now and very pleased with my results. I also highly recommend using a board certified facial plastic surgeon who specializes in facial plastic surgery. I also had CO2 laser skin resurfacing, liposuction under my chin to remove fat and the results have been amazing! I have always taken good care of my skin and never looked my age so I did not need a full facelift. Also, my surgery was done under local anesthesia so I didn't have the risk of undergoing general anesthesia and it was all done in his office which saved me a lot of money from going to a hospital setting.
Hi Can you please share your MDs name & address . Hard to find a good plastic surgeon. I am 54 yrs old I am tired looking at myself developing jowl. Thank you for sharing.
50 here and I have developed jowls recently. It sucks so bad!!! I have zero wrinkles but I do have saggy skin....UGH!!! I tell my husband I don't know what's worse!!! Wrinkles or sagging, LOL!! I guess having both right!!! LOL! It is what it is! I'm doing my best to embrace this new phase in my life, I am healthy, i exercise, i drink plenty of water, I have a beautiful healthy family and I glow from the inside so I am blessed beyond measure! Embrace aging ladies, it truly is a privilege
I look at my partner and he has a sagging neck and has wrinkles all over and I don't see him any different and love him the same. I really believe we are being so hard on ourselves, stripping joy from our lives because we think we need to look a certain way. Our partners support us because they think we will be happy, but if we were completely confident with how we look (just like they are) they would be completely okay with it well and love us the same. Comparing ourselves to our past selves, and to other women strips our joy.
My mom and aunt had facelifts 10 years ago and they look great!! And they don’t have any scars. They look a decade younger and look natural. Don’t be afraid, it’s all about your doctor!
@@norawilson5326But you know what, start saving and you can compliment with financing. Because you don’t want an inexpensive doctor for your face. Too much risk. Better to pay and have more trust.
I’m really glad you were honest about the facelift. I feel like derms avoid admitting this and then patients spend so much money on procedures that are limited in what they can do. Thank you for the straight talk.
Exceptional education, thank you. I've had jawline filler for bone loss and it's given a bit of structure back to the face without looking heavy. It lasts a long time. My injector has an artistic eye and that helps.
Yes agreed! The doctor that uses filler can do it artistically from below on jaw up through smile lines like beautiful Nicole Kidman. No need for the knife if not desired. Just someone with quality work, experience with fillers and a great eye.
@@DrSamEllis Dr sam! i am French but would be patient enough to have a RDV with you. Or maybe you have a french collegue i could trust? like you said its all about the injector..
Yep, I am not completely against anti aging technology, I just think most people don't have the money; and we shouldn't waste what we have on this. We all age; and no matter what you do, you won't stop the aging process. I guess if you have tons of money and have nothing else to spend it on....that's a choice. I am just tired of people thinking young=good and old=bad....it's not necessarily the case. Our society is obsessed with youth and that is a shame.
Everyone that has been born will age. The only thing certain abt life is death. Tell me anything else that’s certain. You can do all you want.. needles, surgery, fillers, Botox, facelift and so on but clock only goes forward. Just try to be the best version of yourself at whatever age you are.. embrace aging and instead of adding days to your life just watching these silly videos and mirror, I think it’s better to add life to your days. So on our last day, we feel we lived a good life! All this is just business! She has to pay her medical student loans and debts, so she does all this and I think it plays on normal ppl minds. That’s what is social media. I don’t think we should waste our valuable time on petty stuff. Things are only as big as you make them to be…
@@Zan-y9leverything in life that we buy is business and embracing a sagging face is your goal. no one should tell any woman what to do with their bodies. whatever makes people happy as long as it doesn't hurt anyone. that's a good life
I start to notice my jowls at 31. I went up 15 lbs and then lost 20 lbs (due to depression), and now I really want to get done with them. I feel I'm to young to have saggy jowls and the rest of my face look super young. Will prop do Morpheous in a couple of weeks.
amen! thank you for this video. I’m 57 years old and I felt the same way. Nothing’s going to lift those jowls except a facelift so I went in and had it all done. Best thing I ever did. along with an upper bleph! now im lifted and snatched ! threads are worthless don’t recommend them. never did them but my botox injector did not recommend them as well. I get so tired of seeing so many videos on TH-cam using the word lifted !Nothing‘s going to lift your face. No device is going to lift your face. Stop throwing your money away. I feel like for the cost of the facelift. I saved lots of money on worthless procedures did not give me the results I want.
Hello. Would you mind telling me how the bruising was? Of course I understand that will be different for each person but I am wondering about the down time and how long I would not be able to return to work. Thank you.
@@gabibartlett6968 I had little to no bruising and zero pain. Just a little puffy I had a really speedy recovery. You just have a lot of strange feelings around your face. Your face will feel very tight hard to turn your neck, but that subsides after a while. It’s been eight months and I still have the tightness I would say after a week you could return to work depending what your job is.
A facelift is the only solution for jowls. Jowls are pockets of fat that have dropped due to laxity of the skin, fascia and muscles, and bone resorption. Once they settle in, ONLY surgery can fix them. I tried RF (at home): caused more laxity, leading to the onset of jowls. Microneedling, retin-A, and facial exercises: excellent for the face as a whole, but did nothing for the jowls (maybe just slow them a bit). Filler on the jawline at the bone level: very minimal results. Ellacor (microcoring): may have slowed down progression, but did not erase jowls. After three years of spending my money trying to avoid a facelift, I finally bit the bullet. What a difference. I had a MACS lift, otherwise known as a mini lift. Basically a lower SMAS facelift. I do think that all the other stuff I did above (with the exception of RF) may have prepared a good terrain for the facelift, allowing me to go for a MACS lift rather than a full or deep plane. I will continue doing them to maintain my results.
We all age.... nobody will look like they are 25 forever. Eat healthy, get enough sleep and exercise and accept how we change as we age is important. Dr. Ellis, I'm sure you are under 45 years old. You have a perfect face. I have spent money on my looks before, but now that I am in my 60s....no more.
Indeed! We all age. And if we are blessed with a long life, we will grow old. No matter how young we look for our age, at some point we will look old. So embrace aging, but do our best to age healthily in mind, body and soul.
We all age. I would be lying if I said I don't mind my sagging face. I do, but not enough to be over focus or feeling miserable about it. I'm not interested in invasive procedures even though I could afford it. I had already a hand full of them for health and mobility reasons. I know I will need a free more in the future so I will not add more than those I really need. There are other things that worry me much more that looking old
As we age, getting enough sleep is only an option if we’re willing to take drugs. Otherwise, most mature people have a tendency to sleep a few hours at a time.
Thank you for your wonderful advice and kind delivery if it, you brilliant Doctor!! 😊 ❤ My PDO threadlift experience: good for a few weeks, then virtually no resolution of the saggy skin problem after that. I feel like i wasted money, and time. Lesson learned! Lasers, PRF microneedling (in-office by a professional), good daily skin care (and saving for a future facelift) is my answer now. 🙏
I am a professional RN, esthetician and electrologist. I totally agree with everything you said. I had a facelift in my early 50’s. I’m now 62. I have jowls and loose skin on my neck again… I have tried it all everything from professional skin care( which does help the skin) to light therapy, micro needling, fillers and Botox. I am now ready to take the plunge and get another facelift, but I really want a natural look. I love your videos! Thank you! 😊
I have actually found external musculature of the shoulders, traps and neck, when tight, can contribute to pulling down on the jawline, and having it look more like there are jowls … I had some treatments at the chiropractor and do some physical therapy to strengthen and relax the muscles in those areas and it makes a really big difference in the way your neck and jaw looks. The combination of laxity in certain muscles. and tightness in others create such an imbalance. Getting these right again normally helps your body and any pain you might be having from this, but also improves the appearance of your face.
Oh that's interesting, i think that's the main cause why i start developpe jawls, May i ask which type of exercices to do, if you have some exemples to share please ? Thank you so much !!
@@suzananda hi! I went to the chiropractor and I am being treated for frozen shoulder. It’s an ongoing problem. I’m still struggling with since it first happened. So I have some resistance bands that I use to help strengthen the area around my shoulder blade/scapula. They also do some treatment on my traps (the muscles between the top of my shoulder and the base of my neck right doing push-ups and trying to crack my posture along with going to the chiropractor, and having them work on releasing the tightness between my jaw and the top of my shoulder is helping a lot. if you look in the mirror and tilt your head, as if you were trying to touch your ear to your shoulder without lifting your shoulder, if you feel tightness, pulling at your jaw and ear, he will notice that tendon is really really tight and looks like it’s sticking out. i’m trying my best to explain what this will look like, but it’s really hard unless I could show you! Lol you may know what I mean if you have this problem. If I don’t do the exercises, the tightness comes back and begins to pull again. It can be a larger problem as well throughout the whole body when the whole body is out of alignment each area starts to overcompensate and you get this kind of overall imbalance. I’m currently working on strength training to get my entire body back in some sort of shape and starting with the shoulders and neck area, I think we’ll have a big impact on the way my jaw looks. There’s a woman name Malissa Neil here on TH-cam, who has a great channel about women over 40 and getting in shape in her jawline looks amazing and I don’t think she even does any type of cosmetic corrections. Hope this is helpful!
@@creativesolutionsart-h3oyes i know exactly which tendon you’re talking about!! Mine is so tight it feel like wood. Can I ask you how often you do your stretching exercises and how long it took for you to relate this tightness to jawling and see improvement?
@@marie-claudefortin4414 hi! It is really difficult to get into a routine, but it is really paying off because it is starting to be less noticeable. I do the resistance bands and push-ups and arm weights 3 to 4 times a week and just really try to strengthen the areas around my shoulder blades and in my chest and peck area. it can be helpful to go to a chiropractor or a massage therapist and have them work on that area if you express what you’re concerned about. Also doing facial massage also helps. There’s nothing worse than looking in the mirror and thinking you have jowls but it is actually being caused by tight tendons. I know as we get older we’re still going to have some type of laxity in that area, but it can definitely look worse if your muscles and tendons are tight and pulling on it!
Thanks for being super honest about the only "true long-term fix" for jowls is surgery. I don't find that cosmetic dermatologists influencers speak to the surgery options and appreciate the honesty of what can be achieved through the different options.
I’m getting ready to have the second of three micro needling sessions on face, neck, and décolleté. I don’t have much jowling , but my skin is more lax at age 60. I have noticed mild improvement in jawline after first round. I noticed that they took pictures before the first treatment, so there will be something other than my opinion to compare back to.
Thank you for this video. You’re only the second dermatologist I’ve heard say that getting a bunch of fillers along the jawline may make one’s lower face look different and not in a good way. I’ve heard too many say just get fillers, just get Botox!
I am 54 and in have jowls. I started massaging my face with a gua sha and although the results aren't striking, it has definitely improved the situation. I have to do it daily and consistently to see results though.
I have had threads done twice now. The first time they lasted a year. I had amazing results; however, I have had an issue with the left side of my face where one of the threads kept wanting to come out. After two tries I kept that one out for good. I have 6 other friends who have been going to the same person that have been getting threads done for years with no issues and lasting results. We all love them!
A year is a last result for something that is not so invasive, as in no surgery. I am curious, what types of threads did you use? I'm considering it for the future.
A guy friend told me i should get threads about 5 years ago. Im glad i never did. He had some nerve, for one thing. But also, i like my face. I'd rather look like me but a little older than look distorted or have infection or complication. My significant other just turned 49 and i am sooo atteacted to him. He has jowls. I think being in love with someone makes them seem gorgeous to you no matter what. Don't get plastic surgery, get someone who is in love with you!
I got threads done three years ago and absolutely loved the effect. It tightened my face more than anything else I'd done, including Thermage and Ultherapy. But it was painful and I've not done it again because I don't find that I need it again. I do Thermage, Ultherapy and Emface and find those help enough that I don't need threads.
I'm still fairly young and I found that a 15 lb weight loss over 6 m helped get rid of the jowls around my mouth. I stopped eatting processed foods and worked out more.
Thank you Dr.Ellis for being so transparent about this topic and informing the public honestly about the different options available for treatment of jowls. This has been the most in-depth explanation by a dermatologist I have come across and you get extra points for stating that a surgical intervention may be the most appropriate option to address this problem in later years when the problem is past simple fixes. Your credibility shines here because advising this option may perhaps cause you to lose clients, but i would say it may be the opposite because we do appreciate honesty and selflessness in our providers. Thanks for being a shining example.
I am 33 and started to notice the early signs of it especially after losing 30 lbs in a year . I tried rf microneedling (scarlet) with exosomes and saw great improvement after only one session but like 3 weeks after it with the collagen build up that I started noticing that my face has been lifted. I have been a tretinoin user for 4 years so probably that has played a role to how my skin responded. Still going for a second session not because my jowls are bothering me anymore but I loved the results it gave to my skin in general and the doctor recommended I do 3 sessions to begin with and with the huge improvement I've seen I cannot wait to see the final results. Cannot really believe that my skin can get any better but I'll take my doctor words for it
Actually it’s quite difficult to even address jowls with surgery. I have seen so many women whose faces look great for the first 8 months after surgery, for things to start dropping again and their jowls return. This is why most before and after photos you see online or in plastic surgery office are always before the 5 month mark. You very rarely get to see results after 1 year. Many people end up having to get filler after their facelifts to maintain the results. So surgery isn’t always the answer. It seems that if you have good bone structure with a strong jaw line and chin, you’ll get the best results. But if you’re heavy in the lower face, the chance of jowls returning seems to be quite high. So I urge anyone who’s looking into having a facelift, to make sure they get in touch with previous patients who had their surgeries over a year ago. Ask them if they’ve had to resort to any other treatments to maintain results. Also deep plane facelifts are not always superior. Again I have seen a lot of deep plane facelifts ending up making someone look worse than they did before. Not good when they’ve spent $80k! And let me tell you something else, if those people complain, they are made to sign NDA’s in return for a revision. Which doesn’t always end up working out. And if they leave a bad review on Realself or other sites, they get threatened with a lawsuit and the reviews are removed. So don’t always believe the reviews on these websites and on Instagram. Do your own research and find at least 3 patients of the surgeon you’re interested in. Contact them directly and ask for photos and videos. See them in person if you can. Have a look at their scars etc. so many people continue to use filters after their surgery to make their results look better than they actually are. Obviously not all surgeons are bad. But you’ll be surprised how many can go from being charming, to gas lighting narcissists. So do your research!
The main cause of jowls and any other sagging and bagging is called AGING. Stay healthy and fit and grow old gracefully. It's what's inside that counts.
Absolutely true. The problem is our society doesn't believe this. Plus, the beauty industry depends on our insecurities to stay rich. Maybe if this message can be marketed correctly someday society will change. For example, many companies are now using size size 8 to 12 models rather than size 4 to 6 models in their advertisements. This has slowly changed our perception of what your body should look like thus helping decrease the incidence of eating disorders among women. Companies should also start advertising using women at various ages in their lives 30s 40s 50 60 70s 80s. Normalizing, rather than rejecting, wrinkles and gray hair would improve our mental health as we age.
I had threads- and they did absolutely nothing. A few years later (at 41) I had my facelift. And I’m happy since then. Also I don’t need anymore fillers!
Personally, I’ve had great results with thread lifts- noticeable difference and still happy with it a year and a half later. But I really think it matters who does it. People have different techniques and use different types of threads. My practitioner was great though!
I had threads done for jowls and well over a year later, I still notice a big difference from my before photo. They definitely increased collagen and tightened up the area. It is invasive but because I got really good results I'd do it again. I think you have to put in the time and research for someone who is really good and experienced. I'm 42 years old and did the threads when I saw early signs of jowls.
Facial massage!! I definitely believe this works, just started doing this and my Aesthetician said my skin looks amazing. Honestly, I thought it was a trend but it works 😊.
@@Ebizzill I can give a few tips like one a facial oil and Gua sha is key, but you can just do very simple light massages on the face ( always be very gentle and in upward motion). Also neck is very important but instead of going up you would go down light pressure with hands or gua sha for 5 mins twice a day.
I've started noticing my jowls now, at the age of 38 after being at severe stress daily since 2022. It's just makes me wanna cry, because that stress is caused in my life by other members of the family. For 2.5 years I'm been having irregular sleep hours, constant stress of dealing with a mentally ill person. I have acne all over my face. Overall, I've been learning on my body how is stress killing me every day.
I’m so sorry. 😢 I totally feel you. I’m 40 and having the same due to family stress. I hope you can find enough peace of mind so your mind and body can heal. 💖
I guess it depends on the person. I used zip 5 x a week for 4 months and saw no changes in the jowls. Only a slight slimming of the check which is not what I wanted.
I'm in my early 40s and have had chubby cheeks since I was a baby. I had two rounds of Kybella a year ago which had a significant impact in the reduction of fat under my jaw, chin, and in my lower cheeks. I am very happy with my results. Aside from the very high cost and the tremendous amount of pain, I did notice a small amount of asymmetrical loose skin under my chin, but it didn't seem noticeable to others when I pointed it out. I recently had botox (dysport) injected throughout my lower face. I took pictures before and again two weeks after. I don't think I would have noticed much of a difference if I hadn't done so, but the pictures show a significant difference. I am also considering getting some filler in my chin and cheeks. I will need to budget for it because it's super pricy.
Really great point about the importance of photography! We often aren’t able to appreciate more subtle changes on ourselves without the objectivity of a picture!
But who qualifies that as an "improvement"? Looking younger is an aesthetic, not an improvement. Youth is not an "improvement" over age and wisdom. You said it, some don't care, some do. I simply wish we would just accept the natural processes of life. I believe we'd be much better off, more productive people, and happier.
Nutrition is very important to keep the integrity of skin overall. I'm 76 and have beautiful skin, people think I'm in my 50's. I've followed a fatty carnivore diet/sometimes keto, for many years.
Thank you for an honest assessment of options. I was so hoping for some non-invasive solutions. But, thanks anyway. I did see a temporary nonsurgical solution. Its that tape you adhere to your hairline with a string. Pulls everything up!!!😅😅😅.
I am 63 and have been doing facial massage for over a year. Let me tell you this, it does work. When I look at photos of myself from a year ago, I can see the difference. It looks like I had a mini facelift. I follow Aysal and Tanaka massage techniques. I find that just using my hands as compared to tools is more effective in my case. I also do some facial yoga, just a few minutes daily. As for skin care products, I use peptides, retinol, vitamin c. I like No. 7 and The Ordinary brands. And don't forget to exfolliate. As for SPF, I live in a cold climate country, so I never really have had to worry about too much Sun exposure as I am always covered up from head to toe. Hope this helps.
I had Kybella for jowls and it worked great on one side, pretty well on the other. I've gained weight since, and I feel like they're not as bad as they could have been
Weight gain will do it as well as genetics and stress. I’ve been under immense stress for over 10 years and I developed them due to weight gain. I had a fat dissolver just like you and feel it’s helped a lot. No more double chin too! I’ll be having more fat dissolvers done to refine the lower face along with other injections. It takes time to see results. But if your jowls are there due to weight gain, fat dissolvers are definitely the way to go.
Thank you so much for your straight up honesty. After having severe bone loss over last 18 years from a rare chronic disease, my facial structure really changed & stopped recognizing myself around 35. Doctors & Dentist both saying have bone loss of an 80 year old & I’m not 47. Have no way & will never have way to pay for facelift. Can’t even afford necessary medical treatments, testing & therapies lol. But been endlessly searching, for a cheap way to improve my sagging face & good to know not to waist any funds or anymore time searching into this. Guess gotta just accept I’m gonna always look 15 years older then I am 🤷🏼♀️
Thank you for being honest about how office procedures might fall short. I'm fortunate to look younger, but jowl and neck deterioration might lead me to surgery in a few years.
I'm 36 and starting to see jowls (very genetic) despite taking excellent care of my skin and being in good shape. It's a little disheartening. I'm not at the point of wanting to go as far as a facelift yet, so I may give gua sha a try and perhaps discuss botox and kybella options next time I see my derm. Thanks for such great information.
You might be able to achieve some benefits from Sculptra. I’m 38 and just had this done 1 month ago in strategic areas to help achieve overall balance and some softening in shadows. It can take several months to show results so I can’t confirm or deny if it’s helped yet, unfortunately. I did a LOT of research beforehand on this so luckily I knew that a facelift was the best option and set my expectations appropriately 🙂
I have seen great results with radiesse placed in the right places and they did not look square and bulky. Their face actually looks slimmer. Eg look at injectorboss in Florida. Stunning results and no threads . No bulky face , but super defined jawline ( needs to be radiesse) .
@@AnnaMelese-g2n it’s not very well accepted as it uses ibotenic acid (from the amanita muscaria mushroom) and that really tightens the skin, and gets through to the dead layers of skin. I put it in a nano infuser the oil for your face can be found on a site called “Mushroom Voice” from Amanita Dreamer. Be very careful about vendors as there are many bad ones with bad ingredients out there regarding this mushroom. Stick with this one lady and she will say other companies and how to make your own toner ( I did it, finally). All the best! Be careful with all mushrooms 🍄
Thank you for this video - great information I had threads done by a practitioner in the Bay Area 3 years ago - I really loved the results but one of the threads migrated and actually came out through the inside of my lower cheek - it (not far from The corner of my mouth) very unpleasant . Results lasted 6-9 months - This same practitioner has a new laser - Fotana- that is promoted for all kinds of procedures - are you familiar with it and if so do you see it as beneficial for jowls? BTW- I participated in a clinical trial at a facility in Sacramento for Sofwave- specifically for cellulite - sadly no improvement
A video on blepharoplasty? I'm a good candidate for lower bleph but can't financially afford it. Looking for non surgical options. Your hair looks great today ❤
Thank you! I defer to my plastic surgeon and ophthalmology colleagues to talk about blepharoplasty in greater detail since they are the ones that typically perform this procedure (though some derms do this as well; it's not as common)--gotta stay in my lane!
What is often missed is the issue of the muscles in the neck and under the jaw pulling that area down. Often simple Botox in the DAO and/or the Platismus can help release the downward pull on the mouth and surrounding area. 😀
Have had threads done midface and neck. Results were good, and no complications. Would I do it again? Probably not as I have become more knowledgeable about available options. I have also had filler done and was lucky to find a greatly skilled injector who is conservative in her approach.
I have never posted on this topic, cosmetic injections. Some individuals state the person is vain, some may be, however it had nothing to do with me. It’s feeling better about yourself. whether you’re married, dating or single, it’s how one feels about themselves. Be for I decided what it was going to do, I done my due diligence, research for well over a year. I researched fillers, laser treatments, etc. from the cost and how often it had to be done and the side effects. The cost of the fillers and Botox was was far-more than a lower facelift and neck lift. I paid 15,000 for the lower facelift and neck lift that was five years ago. I have no filler’s , I receive Botox for my forehead. With five years past I have saved around 25,000 if I would have went with the fillers. I’m not telling people to have lower facelift, and neck lift. One should to do what they are comfortable with. The surgery outweighed the constant visits receiving filler, after fillers and laser treatments that may or may not work.
Jowls have been really an insecurity of mine for the past couple of years, gua sha helps with puffiness but I know I will probably need to do more concrete procedures soon. This was very informative!
Agree 100% about meaningful difference with surgery but I must admit that Ellacor has me intrigued in terms of an improvement at a lower price and less downtime.
I find that because it’s just removing cores of skin, there’s no tightening of the deeper tissue which limits its efficacy a bit. I’m curious to see more results as it’s on the market longer!
@@DrSamEllis that’s a great point, and something to consider for sure. Managing expectations is such an important part of these decisions. I don’t think I’d expect a lift, necessarily, like with the jowls…but when I look at the barcode lines above my lip I feel like it could help there.
Yes, the Nuface does help with the jawline, but what you don't want to do is use it over the depressor anguli oris muscle and by the way the platysma muscle is like a sheet and comes up to lower part of the face that is why it affect the depressor and can pull down the corner of the mouth.
My problem with jowls is the "stern" or "sour" look it gives a face, like you are always scowling a little bit. Same with heavy eyelids or bags under the eyes that make you look tired even when you're not. A lot of facial procedures are about making your outsides match your insides. It's jarring to feel young but then see an old face looking back at you in the mirror. I had upper and lower blepharoplasty a few months ago and feel it made a big difference in making me look more energetic. However, I'm afraid of getting caught in the loop of chasing a younger face. As soon as you fix one area, there is always something else that looks older than the rest of you, whether it's jowls, neck, décolletage, hands, skin on the arms and legs, etc. The trick is to know when to stop with procedures while you still look appropriate for your age and also before you bankrupt yourself.
How helpful is mesotherapy? If the overall facial skin is tightened, won't marionette lines and sagging cheeks also be reduced? Or can mesotherapy not tighten the skin? And 2nd question: Is there something like a mini lift, so that the whole face doesn't have to be cut, but maybe just 1-2 cm on both sides?
I absolutely love threads BUT it’s mandatory to find an expert who is doing this procedure daily! It’s not going to take care of significant laxity but if you are just starting to see the signs of jowls, it’s absolutely something that can prevent/prolong more invasive procedures like major surgery.
Love your honesty!! Thank you. I am 50 and doing the manual face lift in the mirror and like that look. Just need to find a good plastic surgeon that gives a Beverly Hills fl without that price tag lol
I just had this done with the goal of minor improvements to the jowling that has developed at age 38 after weight gain and loss (as well as premature ovarian insufficiency & menopause 🫠). Luckily I heavily researched jowl treatments beforehand and understood the limitations of in office procedures vs. a facelift and didn’t add it to the jawline and am not expecting profound resolution. She pretty much confirmed every single thing I learned, which was awesome. I am hoping for a bit of softening in appearance and overall less shadowing and more balance to the face. I’m hoping with those things, the bit of jowling that remains won’t bother me as much. I only had it done 1 month ago so I haven’t seen any results yet, but I’ll try to remember to provide an update here in 3-6 months 🙂 I had 2 syringes my first appt. She said I may need 3-4 total but I’m not planning on spending the money on 4, so lefts hope the 2-3 are effective 😆🙏🤞 For reference, I had Sculptra added to areas of the face that have hollowed a bit; especially in the upper face. - the pre-auricular area (the area in front of the ear). This is an awesome area that few talk about, is subtle, and helps restore the youthful shape to the face! - temples - chin shadow (which basically softens the transition from the jowl to the chin and reduces shadowing) - the triangle at the base of the nose (I’m blanking on the proper term for it right now but it’s not a common one & isn’t the nasolabial folds). This one will mostly improve overall balance and helps with the drooping of the tip of the nose that occurs with age.
Two years ago, I had PDO threads placed in my lower face and mid face to lift the skin up and back, because I had jowls and chipmunk cheeks. It was probably one of the worst decisions Ive made cosmetically. The nurse aesthetician promised me long lasting results up to a year, but they only lasted about three months and I had puckering in my face for a year. People made fun of me and asked me what happened to me. I went back to her for a follow up and she just gave me excuses about it and didnt fix anything. Mostly blamed it on me! It was an expensive procedure and incredibly painful. I would never do it again or recommend that to anyone else.
I agree that the skin care industry is overwhelming the cosmetic industry with false claims and high prices for our beauty. It’s nice to get an in office treatment for skin care, but not everyone can afford those treatments. Recommendations of otc skin care is great, and probably more affordable. Find what works for you, it shouldn’t break the bank, and don’t be a follower of the “trends” you see”. Research, experiment and you will find what really works to your satisfaction. I don’t believe any procedure or surgery is going to turn back the clock because gravity exists. I wasn’t really looking for a recommendation to go to a “business” to get skin care, they just seem like a pull to buy their products. This was a helpful video anyway. Thanks!
Healthy lifestyle, balanced diet with healthy fats and lots of protein, do strength and resistance training twice a week, take a collagen supplement, take a D3 / K2 supplement
Goodness. I don't know if I could find the time for a face lift. I can barely meet my dentist appointments. Nevertheless, thanks for taking the time to upload the vid!
I really would like Botox for my mouth clenching but I have heard that if you are older that it can cause jowling. Is this right would you say. (I’m asking for the late 40s age) thank you ❤
it gave me jowls :( I got it was when I was 37. The person I went to did WAY TOO MUCH and it slimmed my face so much that I got jowls. If someone wants to get it done, I would suggest starting slowly and see what amount is best for you.
I almost always prefer liposuction (very targeted result that can be tailored during the procedure) unless it is a very small amount of fat (like barely enough to pinch), in which case a series of Kybella injections work well and is technically less invasive.
The research I’ve done on this confirms what she says; Kybella can also lead to some fibrosis (scarring). You can get liposuction done while you’re awake and it can actually be quite quick and fairly affordable. I have Lipedema, which is a rather common connective tissue/fat disorder in women that causes pain, swelling, fibrosis, etc & the medical treatment for it is to remove the diseased tissue via liposuction. It’s incredibly effective for pain reduction and to maintain mobility. Insurance companies are even covering it sometimes! It’s estimated that 6-11% of women have it… yet very few have even heard of it (including physicians) so if you have no idea what I’m talking about you aren’t alone lol. Anyway… I digress lol. The point is that I’ve learned a LOT about liposuction the last couple of years because of this and it isn’t nearly as scary or invasive as one would think 😆🤷🏼♀️
The Jawzrsize face exerciser actually does work very well. Exercises to fix your neck alignment work. Hanging your head off of a step and doing neck lifts helps but don't hurt yourself.
I’m 42 and have jowls 😢 im nervous about surgery because I developed granulomas after getting Bellafill under my eyes. The crazy thing is I got it injected for the first time 10 years ago and had touch up five years after that. For some reason a couple years ago after having my 2nd child I started developing huge lumps in my cheeks. The place that did the filler went bankrupt so finding someone who would even touch my face was near impossible. I finally found a doctor in California that did a series of injections in my face that consisted of a bunch of different things and it took the swelling and the lumps down tremendously. There’s definitely still there, but it no longer looks like I have an egg on one side of my face. Anyways, I’d like to one day get a lower facelift if I’m a good candidate, but I’m nervous because I still have pieces of the permanent filler left in my face and I’m scared this will disrupt it and cause it to flare up again. I looked as if I was having an allergic reaction for months when this all started to flare up a couple years ago it was absolutely horrifying. The only thing I can think of is my pregnancy and birth somehow triggered my body to start to reject the foreign substance either that or it was from using the Nuface device. I did go over my tear trough area with that device a bit excessively, hoping that it would tighten my under eyes. I guess my question is do you think surgery would be safe knowing that I have these chunks of PMA plastic in my face still? PS for anyone getting filler do not ever I repeat do not ever get permanent filler in your tear troughs. I wish I never got pressured into getting it. This crap is a nightmare.
Thank you, Dr. Ellis. That was a very informative and educational video. Question: can you explain how to use the Gua Sha cosmetic tool to deal with jowls. I bought one but I forgot the best way to use it. Thank you!
I agree. I had mine at age 56, almost 8 years ago. I get filler now in my gonial angle to maintain my results.
I’m 60 and look 50 no surgery needed !good genes…
@@angelasmith257awesome!
Do you mind sharing how long your recovery period lasted, and was it painful?
I find red light therapy and microcurrent at home really helps. Nuface is good, I hear people love Omilux and Dennis gross red-light.
Maybe one day I will look “old”
and people can gasp and be glad they had surgery 😅 See Twilight Zone Number 12 looks just like you 😊
Truth. All the money spent on promises from cosmetic companies could have paid for a surgical FL by now. Put away a thousand a year starting at age 25, and you're ready by 55.
Microcurrent has been the most effective.
I love the way you express this. Thank you for giving us all a boost. Your kindness is appreciated. : )
I look exactly like my mother as well. and my grandmother and my great grandmother. They all had facelifts.
Wish I was able to feel as you do.
Can you share where you had this done?

Wonderful!!! 🙏🏽
Same no wrinkles but I’m a sagger
I look at my partner and he has a sagging neck and has wrinkles all over and I don't see him any different and love him the same. I really believe we are being so hard on ourselves, stripping joy from our lives because we think we need to look a certain way. Our partners support us because they think we will be happy, but if we were completely confident with how we look (just like they are) they would be completely okay with it well and love us the same. Comparing ourselves to our past selves, and to other women strips our joy.

Exceptional education, thank you. I've had jawline filler for bone loss and it's given a bit of structure back to the face without looking heavy. It lasts a long time. My injector has an artistic eye and that helps.
A great injector makes all the difference!
What type of filler?
Which filler?
Yes agreed! The doctor that uses filler can do it artistically from below on jaw up through smile lines like beautiful Nicole Kidman. No need for the knife if not desired. Just someone with quality work, experience with fillers and a great eye.

@lisatompkins9588 thank you for your quick response!
Thank you for telling the truth and not selling us magical solutions that don't work.
Amen!
Indeed! We all age. And if we are blessed with a long life, we will grow old. No matter how young we look for our age, at some point we will look old. So embrace aging, but do our best to age healthily in mind, body and soul.
I wish someone did a video on the appreciation of aging 🙌
Oh that's interesting, i think that's the main cause why i start developpe jawls,
May i ask which type of exercices to do, if you have some exemples to share please ?
This is such a refreshingly honest and educational video - thank you! ❤🙏🏼
Glad it was helpful! Filler is such a useful tool, but only if used to solve the right problem!

Just curious, if the results lasted a year, how can you say lasting results
@@leahn4267 that’s long lasting to us. Most people say they only last 2-3 months. So take it how you would like.
Love your hair and makeup today. You look gorgeous
I got threads done three years ago and absolutely loved the effect. It tightened my face more than anything else I'd done, including Thermage and Ultherapy. But it was painful and I've not done it again because I don't find that I need it again. I do Thermage, Ultherapy and Emface and find those help enough that I don't need threads.
the threads lasted like two years but they wore off very gradually so it was hard to gauge.
@@Eaststarwhich type of threads did you get and how many did you have put in?
I'm still fairly young and I found that a 15 lb weight loss over 6 m helped get rid of the jowls around my mouth. I stopped eatting processed foods and worked out more.
GLOWING today!
Very informative and realistic. Thank you!!
Cannot really believe that my skin can get any better but I'll take my doctor words for it
see, I had 6 sessions of RF and barely noticed a difference. I also have been using tret for about 2 years. skin is so wild 😂
A fantastic and honest review Dr Sam - thanks so much. What do you think of Endolift for tightening jowls? The probe under the skin?
Lol, well, yes, this is true, but that doesn’t mean we like it or can’t try to change it.
Being on this vid … and vomiting the old … it’s what inside that counts ….pathetic
Agree 💯%
That's not the society we live in. You are dreaming.
What type of threads did you get?
I had threads done for jowls and well over a year later, I still notice a big difference from my before photo. They definitely increased collagen and tightened up the area. It is invasive but because I got really good results I'd do it again. I think you have to put in the time and research for someone who is really good and experienced. I'm 42 years old and did the threads when I saw early signs of jowls.
Thank you Dr. Sam! I fully trust what you say and listen to your advice
Facial massage!! I definitely believe this works, just started doing this and my Aesthetician said my skin looks amazing. Honestly, I thought it was a trend but it works 😊.
any you can recommend?
@@Ebizzill I can give a few tips like one a facial oil and Gua sha is key, but you can just do very simple light massages on the face ( always be very gentle and in upward motion). Also neck is very important but instead of going up you would go down light pressure with hands or gua sha for 5 mins twice a day.
I have Lipedema and have since learned the importance and effectiveness of lymphatic massage. It’s crazy how big of a difference it actually makes 😳

Nu face and Ziip have helped very much… 5 times a week… I definitely see improvement 😊
I guess it depends on the person. I used zip 5 x a week for 4 months and saw no changes in the jowls. Only a slight slimming of the check which is not what I wanted.
Much better and more informative than the other video I watched on this topic. Thank you.
Thank you for always being frank about what we can do and the pros and cons.
Instead of cutting our faces off and pulling them back, I wish we could accept aging and see the beauty at every stage.
Why should we if we can improve ourselves. Some people don't care about how they look . Others do . That's it
But who qualifies that as an "improvement"? Looking younger is an aesthetic, not an improvement. Youth is not an "improvement" over age and wisdom. You said it, some don't care, some do. I simply wish we would just accept the natural processes of life. I believe we'd be much better off, more productive people, and happier.

What are your thoughts on face yoga? Would exercising the muscles beneath the skin assist at all
I've often asked this same question on these types of sites - and have never been answered..🤷

Thank you for those video.. I really appreciate your honesty. May I ask how long does the facelift last? Can you make a video about it ?
Apparently, ten years.
Sculptra!!! But I’m almost ready for a lift, age 50. I love Gua Sha.
Currently I have found a very tightening toner so that’s helping atm…..

I had threads done by a practitioner in the Bay Area 3 years ago - I really loved the results but one of the threads migrated and actually came out through the inside of my lower cheek - it (not far from

I appreciate your honesty. You are right! The only way to improve sag is a surgery.
I have also had filler done and was lucky to find a greatly skilled injector who is conservative in her approach.
what are the better options than threads? how long did your threads last?
Definitely made this one for me 😂. Thanks so much Dr. Sam. You look great ❤
I have never posted on this topic, cosmetic injections.
Agree that it could help lip lines!
@@DrSamEllis oh good, that makes me feel better! 🤗
Since a NuFace isnt going to be helpful for the jawline, can you tell me something you think it is helpful for?
Yes, the Nuface does help with the jawline, but what you don't want to do is use it over the depressor anguli oris muscle and by the way the platysma muscle is like a sheet and comes up to lower part of the face that is why it affect the depressor and can pull down the corner of the mouth.
@@Suzanne-s5m wow on all these demonstration no one has ever mentioned it would no more damage to the dao muscle smh.
Thank you for such an informative video! What about sculptra to help tighten the skin around that area?
How helpful is mesotherapy? If the overall facial skin is tightened, won't marionette lines and sagging cheeks also be reduced? Or can mesotherapy not tighten the skin?
And 2nd question: Is there something like a mini lift, so that the whole face doesn't have to be cut, but maybe just 1-2 cm on both sides?
I've had thread and am very happy with them. I have a very skilled Dr I see who also does my filler and botox.
What are your thoughts on Sculptra? I was told that could help or microneedling. Thoughts? Thank you! Susan
She said I may need 3-4 total but I’m not planning on spending the money on 4, so lefts hope the 2-3 are effective 😆🙏🤞
For reference, I had Sculptra added to areas of the face that have hollowed a bit; especially in the upper face.
- the pre-auricular area (the area in front of the ear). This is an awesome area that few talk about, is subtle, and helps restore the youthful shape to the face!
- temples
- chin shadow (which basically softens the transition from the jowl to the chin and reduces shadowing)
- the triangle at the base of the nose (I’m blanking on the proper term for it right now but it’s not a common one & isn’t the nasolabial folds). This one will mostly improve overall balance and helps with the drooping of the tip of the nose that occurs with age.
@@karenhanson359 thank you for this information. Looking forward to your update.

Dermatologists look great.
Thanks!
How can we help maintain a good bone health on the face and prevent bone loss? And once some is lost, how can this be recovered?

Great info! Would love to know your thoughts on kybella vs liposuction for under chin genetic fat on young patients in their 20s.
I almost always prefer liposuction (very targeted result that can be tailored during the procedure) unless it is a very small amount of fat (like barely enough to pinch), in which case a series of Kybella injections work well and is technically less invasive.
Thank you for replying!
I've had positive results with Jawercise too.
You look fantastic in those colors! So springy today!
