    Hey Will, great vids man!! Just a note on the gas. At night when you are sleeping, if gas leaks you can get a layer of gas sinking to around the height of where you will be breathing. This can give you carbon monoxide poisoning and can kill without you even knowing it. Two options, keep the gas/burner in an air tight container once it’s cooled or store the gas outside over night. It’s more prevalent in cold weather. Stay safe dude and keep on moving, inspiring stuff!

    Ha you stayed in my town. There are a few places bit further up on the downs you could park over night for free. Often campers parked up. Love the simplicity of your set up and especially the front seat that turns around. I would defo put a board under the gas stove and get a co2 detector for peace of mind just incase as super dangerous in confined space.

    Hi, another person doing the same as you, places a fire blanket under the gas stove to keep a bit safer. I noticed you turned the gas on quite a few seconds before using the ignitor, therefore the gas could be leaking causing it to flare as you said it did. Turn on gas right before ignition instead and open windows etc for fresh air. I personally would use a little table preferably outside but inside if I had to. Happy travels

    I just was thinking about your setup, you can put a pvc soft glass table cover on your bed and a mdf plate on top to put your stove on. It would help with the smell and grease from the food and should be a little bit more safe.....I hope

    Haven't read all the comments but i
    I was you I would be inclined to have a large fire proof blanket to place on the bed beneath the stove, not because of the heat but to stop the fat splashes going on your covers, you only have to look at your cooker top at home after making a stir fry.
    I just love watching the whole process of seeing the journey unfold and the inside of your tiny home is brillian
    Take care and stay safe

    Hi, Will: It is dangerous any time, anyone puts a camp stove on a fabric covered shift gel foam mattresses, they aren't impervious to fire. You might think about buying or building a small collapsible wooden table which can store away when not in use, to prepare food on and cook on.

    • @WillsWhereabouts

    • @tonuhot
      @tonuhot 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I immediately thought this when I watched the video.
      Here are two ideas that came to me:
      1) Have wooden cover the size of your kitchen slide out drawer. Use this cover/plank as a table. Put it on the bed and then the stove.
      2) turn the board you have put pictures on, into a fold down table. You can sit on the bed to do the cooking and also keep the window half open right next to the stove.
      I think 2nd one is a better idea.

    eBay does have 12v electric blankets and also carbon fiber seat heaters.
    Perhaps some of that might keep you warmer on cold nights but not sure what the drain on the battery would be.
    Cheers

    • @JimTMcDaniels1
      @JimTMcDaniels1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My Mom grew up on a farm and she talked about how they would take a heavy rock wrapped in fabric which had been heated by or in the stove fire, which would keep them warm all nite.
      Rocks can store a lot of heat. I wonder if a rock like heated on the exhaust manifold or by the car’s heat vent could be used to keep warm while sleeping.
      People living in vans often use a propane buddy heater to keep warm but the carbon monoxide is a concern in small tight places.
      My first choice for heat would be to take me along if I was near by ;) cheers (without mind machine warping alcohol lol)

    I did some work for a customer on his vehicle that he uses like you. I fitted a second battery and a slip charging system to give power for lights etc without risking discharging the starting battery. A swivel unit was fitted to the passenger front seat to allow it to face backwards for use in cooking etc in foul weather. A locking tough box was fitted for securing laptop camera wallet phone etc in the front footwell and hidden from view behind the carpet. Wire mesh vents that could be fitted into windo arpeture that offered secure ventilation the window was wound up to secure in place,removable when not needed. Extra button fitted in rear to lock/ unlock the doors without setting the alarm. Button in rear to only open / lock tailgate independent of other doors. Diesel fired night heater, Chinese from eBay,works well with good temp control.

    While cooking like that probably isn't the safest it looks fairly stable. I'd be more worried about grease/oil spatter on the sheets. I'd probably make a small folding plywood base that covers an area around the stove by about 12" either side just for caution's sake...saves your sheets and would provide better safety for cooking than straight on the bed

    Have you thought of getting an induction heater to cook with rather than gas on your bed, becuase yes that is very dangerous

    Great video mate. I'm dying to do this. Have the van nearly finished. Always interested in how to shower as I would need a shower and a coffee every day to make me feel good. I watch a few of these type of videos and I think yours is the most accurate and balanced mate. Keep it up. But the way the isle of sheppey and rochester are general shit holes. Keep to the SE part of the coast. Lol

      Thanks mate, for sure a shower and coffee defiantly helps in the mornings, when I upgrade one day a shower will be a necessity. haha yep I agree with you the SE is so much nicer!

    when paying for parking it's worth checking what the price would be had you lost your ticket. Sometimes it's cheaper to "lose your ticket" :D

    Having a CO2 detector to be on a safe side wont harm , wonder how you ventilate during cooking or during night time (against condensation ) . Good stuff on this channel .

    Sorry to disappoint you but if you were on Sheppey, that wasn’t the ocean as you called it, it was the Thames Estuary.

    I don't see that the big cargo holder on top is very stealthy. Without it you're just another minivan but with the big cargo holder on top it stands out and that's the main purpose of the minivan.
