Caltrain has come a long way since hole-punched paper tickets. I last commuted on it ten years ago, but when it’s fully electrified, I’m going on a joyride.

That bell would drive me nuts.😎
It really isn't that bad compared to metra:

@@timectrlThey both are annoying
Train goes straight into notch 8 lol
Despite the average speed being a little over 50 MPH, this thing is making good speed
Most Baby Bullets actually reach 70mph
CalTrain should have done grade elimination and high platforms. This still my favorite west coast commuter system.
That will be a part of the electrification "CalMod" system
Great video. Can't wait to see a cab ride video at 110 mph (177 kph).👍👍👍👍
I will be unable to do a Cabride like that
That is the fun part
nice 👍
Nice Shot! That was a nice horn! Btw I was on the next baby bullet train 709, and I went from Mountain View to Palo Alto. Also, I subscribed and liked this video and watched the entire video.
On the date October 10 2022?
@@timectrl no on October 19th
Nice
If you look at 1:03:19 to your right you can see 919 hidden in the background
4015 sounds gorgeous

I’m reeeeeeally excited for the electrified trains
They will be really fast!
Is that also when the salinas extention opens?
@@DrasticllyOversizedEgg what is the name of that project for the salinas extension? I am curious
I really enjoyed seeing how far the electrification has gone. Does the recording mount you used make the ride seem smoother? Because the ride seemed very smooth. Thanks for recording this. I did the ride in two viewings.
The ride was recorded with a gopro, and that is why the video is very smooth.
Just to make sure and correct me if I’m wrong, that even though the electrification project is completed, some diesels will still be used for Gilroy on the UP owned track unless there’s a plan for electrification on that line and UP is ok with it.
You are correct
5:02 will Amtrak trains be regulated to the non-electrified tracks on the right once electric service starts?
Probably not
Good video, so much has changed from when I used to work on this line. I have some cab ride videos of Caltrain on my channel, feel free to check them out, they are from 2004-2006.
Thanks so much for commenting! I had already seen your videos, and I especially liked the 2003 one to San Carlos, and I found it really interesting! Seeing Paul Ave, hold out at Bayshore, old S. San Francisco, lower San Bruno, hold out Burlingame, bay meadows, and hold out old Hillsdale was really cool! I also liked how it was southbound filmed from the locomotive.
@@timectrl Oh very cool, glad you liked them, still have more to upload in the near future. Also found some old Hi-8 tapes to edit at some point in time as well, those are from 1990-92.
Cheers!
@@straightto8 Wow! I really look forward to seeing those. I was wondering if you had footage of the Butler Road station, as it is really old and I wish to see how it looked and the platform arrangement.
@@timectrl No, the stop was long gone by the time I was starting to shoot photos in 1990, the Butler Road crossing was still there at the time. I honestly don’t recall seeing any photos of it, they are out there I’m sure. It was probably a small shelter made of wood like the one at Castro in Mountain View. That stop, when it was in use, at Castro was a flag stop, consisted of a small asphalt platform for about 1 car.
If this was the UK there would be so many complaints about the noise of the horn 🤣
It seemed like the rail bed was unusually well maintained in comparison to other train rides I've viewed in other parts of the country. Does it seem that way to you?
I have not had much experience with other commuter railways, however Caltrain is doing quite well at maintaining it's railway.
Nice Cab Ride!
Thank you so much! Your comments mean alot.
Was this a express train? Was this a gallery car or a bombardier bi level cab car?
This was Gallery Cab Car 4015, and we were an express "baby bullet" train, making stops at Mountain View (12:04)
Palo Alto (19:56) Redwood City (27:27) Hillsdale (34:41) Millbrae Transit Ctr (42:55) and SF-22nd Street (58:36).
how are you enjoying the ride on the new Stadler Kiss trainset?
the stadler trainsets have not been implemented yet. This was a classic gallery car.
did your train have a google ad wrap?
Yes, I think so.
Coolio
What does this so called bullet train look like? Is this line finished? If so, how man years was it late . How many times was it over budget?
"baby bullet" is a caltrain service type, not a train.
Search "Caltrain" on google to see pictures of the train.
I will state again, it is not a bullet train, rather an express train
Appreciate your flagging all the closed stations -- but did you miss Butler Road? I didn't notice it, even on a second viewing (.7 mile north (SP west) of South San Francisco).
I didn't include it, as it was a SP stop only.
Fair enough.
What did you edit this video with?
"CyberLink PowerDirector"
Very nice video. Kudos to your effort! Unfortunately, I had to watch it on mute due to the almost headache inducing bells.
Yes the bells are really a problem here. Thanks! I really enjoyed filming it and I am glad you liked it!
Amtrak's Northbound Coast Starlight splits off the Peninsula Corridor to the right at New Hall Yard just north of Santa Clara Station. (5:50)
Can you do a weekend service cab ride?
yes in theory i can but they run so sparsely on weekends that I'd have to wait forever for a gallery car with a semi clean window.
@@timectrlDefine sparsely
Is the line fully electric?
Not yet
Really nice ride. Guessing the speed limit in this route is 100mph?
Trains are currently limited to 79mph, but once electrified service begins that speed will increase to 110mph.
@@ChrisJones-gx7fc That's fast
Train
damn, still nothing at Menlo Park, or just south of Redwood City.
True, most other stops have been electrified at least in zone 3/4.
You got the SSF Timestamp a little late!
Thanks for pointing it out.
That train was cutting back !

Without this annoying af bell and using the horn before every crossing.
The horn is needed. Lot of people are killed because of not knowing the train is coming.
@@hornshowrailfan2554 People need to learn some common sense and have eyes to check if a massive piece of metal is coming their way. Especially on medium speed tracks

That bell is sure annoying.
ugh just as annoying irl as it is in Train Sim World
They rang it for the entire ride pretty much.
