Good information here. To clarify a little further: by the time we reach our early to mid 20s, most of us will have experienced a small amount of thinning in the crown, vertex and temple regions of our scalps which is commonly but not always accompanied by some mild recession of the hair line resulting in the 'widows peak' (Bill Clinton is a prime example of a man who has kept his childhood hairline.) Afterwards, some men will not experience any further rescission of their hairlines as they grow older although most of them will continue to lose density in the aforementioned regions albeit at a snails pace and will likely still have a decent head of hair by the time they become old age pensioners. On the reverse side of the coin roughly one third of us will continue to lose hair after our mature hairline is visible (with some poor souls being almost completely bald by the time the mature hairline is visible) either in the more common classic horseshoe pattern (were the hairline continues to recede as a visible 'bald spot' enlarges itself in the crown region oftentimes culminating in total baldness when the two 'meet in the middle' so to speak) or alternatively the less common diffuse pattern (were the crown, vertex and temple regions are all thinning out at the same time and at the same speed.) Male pattern baldness (or androgenetic alopecia) in both forms can oftentimes be treated using a combination of 5-alpha-Reductase inhibitors (drugs which decrease the production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the scalp thereby slowing the rate of balding with the potential regrowth) such as finasteride alongside topical solutions such as minoxidil (a medication which stimulates hair growth) and shampoos which contain ketoconazole (ketoconazole is an anti-fungal medication which inhibits 5AR, the enzyme which converts testosterone to DHT.) If you hadn't figured it out yet, it is DHT which is thought to be largely responsible for the onset and progression of male pattern baldness in susceptible men. It should go without saying that the earlier you're diagnosed with male pattern baldness and are able to begin treatment, the better the outcome in terms of being able to significantly slow down the progression of the condition often is (and I should mention here that results can vary greatly depending on individual biological responses to drugs such as Finasteride.) Fortunately for myself I responded positively to 'the big three' (finasteride, minoxidil, ketoconazole shampoos) which have helped me to maintain a full head of thick hair for almost a decade since I was first diagnosed with diffuse pattern hair loss in 2010 with no discernable side effects or loss in efficiency (on a somewhat related note I was also able to use topical minoxidil on my previously patchy beard for a period of six months which fixed the problem permanently.) I'll finish by saying don't go out in search of the treatments I've cited here without doing your research first as allergic reactions are possible and allergy testing is must. Moreover most people will experience some side effects when using 5-alpha-Reductase inhibitors such as finasteride. It's for you to decide if the potential risks of using treatments like the big three outweigh the benefits. Click the link below for more detailed information about the treatments I've cited in this comment: www.baldingbeards.com/best-hair-loss-treatment/#The_best_hair_loss_treatment_for_men_The_big_three

Hi Ben, here's a suggestion to help hair growth that costs absolutely nothing and it totally works - at least it did for me. Use your palms to lightly massage your head until you feel a bit of heat on your scalp. Press onto your scalp so that it is the scalp that moves, not your hair. Then move on to the next area. You can do this while shampooing your hair and when rinsing the shampoo off. I did this every day since Jan 2020 and after more than 6 months, I notice my hairline has improved. I don't have any photo proof becos I didn't even think it would work. Try it and see if it works for you.

Men who have more square head shapes (and thus skull shapes) usually also have more quare looking hairlines and tend to be the ones who have the non balding windows peaks. These are the ones sometimes confused with receiding hairlines and are called'mature hairlines'. The reason why some men get mature hairlines while not appear to be balding any further than that is because their hairlines changes shape because their skull is changing shape rather than any LOSS of hair. You see, when men transform from boys into men, their skull gets slightly more or a lot more square in shape. Obviously this underlying change in skull shape that things on top of that like the skin is streched to fit on that new shape. Usually facial features get more "square" looking too, like the square chins men typically get. Guys like Jude law are good examples of men who have very rounded heads. His skull shape is very round. The same thing goes for Ben Athur here. Also a very rounded head. Typically they do not have widows peaks. Usually guys with more dome-ish, rounded head shapes also have more delicate features than those who have square looking heads. Colin Farrell on the other hand, has a more square head shape, which more often has one. Some men continue to get more squar ehead shapes (like david beckham) and thus his hairline looks more square too. Similarly also his other facial features seem to increase in "masculinity". His brow bone continues to have grown quite a lot since he was 25.

Mature hairline is a hairline that gets more square in shape because *the whole male skull grows more square in and after puberty* . a real.mature hairline is not balding because there is no hair loss, just a repositioning of the hairs as a consequence of repositioning of the skin, becauss of skull growth. There should be no miniaturation.
@albo warrior incorrect. Our skulls do grow and change. Male babies for example do not have big brow bones while adult males often do have them. Our skulls do obviously change. That's how you can regonize someone is a kid for example or a full grown man. The shape of the bones determines that. You might argue that this is becasue the face gets more mature. However, what makes hte face look more mature when growing up >> BONES.

So I know I’m not a guy but I thought I’d put this out here: balding is genetic and is passed down through maternal grandfathers, meaning if your mom’s dad is balding, you’re going to bald as well. If you know your family history and happened to get to know your grandfather in that side of the family, that might be a good indicator of whether or not you’ll experience baldness. I hope that helps some, and if I’m wrong please correct me!
The whole maternal grandfather thing is an old wife's tail. If that was true every single brother in every single family will experiece hair loss at the same pace but that is not the case. The main gene associated with balding is on the x chromosome, but there are over 200 genetic variations that account how much hair you will lose at what pace and at what age. Only 10% of men keep their juvenile hairline and density for life. Even less a so called "Norwood 0" with full density. Most men even if not considered bald will at least get to a Norwood 2 with a decrease of density year by year. Every man is born with 100 000 hair follicles. It isn't untill you've lost 30 000 of them for you to notice a cosmetic differenceand even more for other people to notice. So if you have a low sensitivity to androgens and in 60 years you've just lost 1000 hair follicles your hair will look exactly the same as when you were 16. In conclusion all men who have testosterone in their body experience hair loss. The extend to witch is dependend on your genes. This is an interesting article on hairloss if your interested: moreplatesmoredates.com/hair-loss-guide-for-newbies/
It really doesn't matter imo. Get the best haircut you can while you have it, otherwise just cut it short or shave it, then possibly grow a beard or wear glasses, and make sure you're in shape with good skin etc. Hell look at Roetzel of "Gentleman" fame!

I started with a widows peak since I was a boy. It was noticeable in my teens and I think it looked good to be honest. When I hit 20s, it started to be more pronounced. In my 30's now and it look terrible. The 2 corners is receding fast, like really far back. I still have pretty much full hair except for the receding corners of my widow's peak.
In my opinion a widows peak is when your hairline makes a U or V shape. If you have just a small couple centimeters of hair coming out in the front, then thats...nothing
I do have to mention that you can have some temple recession with a mature hairline. It doesn’t mean your receding. It just means your temples are further back. Nothing too bad but people flip out about it
I think the reason people may confuse Ryan Reynolds as having a receding hairline is because of how deep his temples are. I’m unsure if that makes sense, but essentially on the sides his hairline almost looks diagonal, and that’s just not the typical shape. They think it’s either the boxed hairline or otherwise it’s receding, but yeah he’s definitely not receding. If you look at photos of him from when he was younger his hairline hasn’t changed much at all.

I’ve had a widows peak all my life, quiet a deep one. I’ve had people tell me I’m receeding from being 15! Yet 10 years later my hairline hasn’t changed and I’m still getting comments saying I’m receeding it’s so annoying!
That’s really rude to say to somebody

nearly 30 now, still no change haha, still rocking the widows peak. Funny thing is, the guys who said i was receeding are now rapidly losing their hair.
On the reverse side of the coin roughly one third of us will continue to lose hair after our mature hairline is visible (with some poor souls being almost completely bald by the time the mature hairline is visible) either in the more common classic horseshoe pattern (were the hairline continues to recede as a visible 'bald spot' enlarges itself in the crown region oftentimes culminating in total baldness when the two 'meet in the middle' so to speak) or alternatively the less common diffuse pattern (were the crown, vertex and temple regions are all thinning out at the same time and at the same speed.)
Male pattern baldness (or androgenetic alopecia) in both forms can oftentimes be treated using a combination of 5-alpha-Reductase inhibitors (drugs which decrease the production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the scalp thereby slowing the rate of balding with the potential regrowth) such as finasteride alongside topical solutions such as minoxidil (a medication which stimulates hair growth) and shampoos which contain ketoconazole (ketoconazole is an anti-fungal medication which inhibits 5AR, the enzyme which converts testosterone to DHT.) If you hadn't figured it out yet, it is DHT which is thought to be largely responsible for the onset and progression of male pattern baldness in susceptible men.
It should go without saying that the earlier you're diagnosed with male pattern baldness and are able to begin treatment, the better the outcome in terms of being able to significantly slow down the progression of the condition often is (and I should mention here that results can vary greatly depending on individual biological responses to drugs such as Finasteride.)
Fortunately for myself I responded positively to 'the big three' (finasteride, minoxidil, ketoconazole shampoos) which have helped me to maintain a full head of thick hair for almost a decade since I was first diagnosed with diffuse pattern hair loss in 2010 with no discernable side effects or loss in efficiency (on a somewhat related note I was also able to use topical minoxidil on my previously patchy beard for a period of six months which fixed the problem permanently.)
I'll finish by saying don't go out in search of the treatments I've cited here without doing your research first as allergic reactions are possible and allergy testing is must. Moreover most people will experience some side effects when using 5-alpha-Reductase inhibitors such as finasteride. It's for you to decide if the potential risks of using treatments like the big three outweigh the benefits. Click the link below for more detailed information about the treatments I've cited in this comment:

Hi Ben, here's a suggestion to help hair growth that costs absolutely nothing and it totally works - at least it did for me. Use your palms to lightly massage your head until you feel a bit of heat on your scalp. Press onto your scalp so that it is the scalp that moves, not your hair. Then move on to the next area. You can do this while shampooing your hair and when rinsing the shampoo off. I did this every day since Jan 2020 and after more than 6 months, I notice my hairline has improved. I don't have any photo proof becos I didn't even think it would work. Try it and see if it works for you.
I need to work on this, I've read somewhere it might be true
To be clear, a receding hairline and balding, male pattern baldness are not diseases!
Well years back artery plaquing, cancers and even diabetes was labeled as just "genetic".
Yes it’s definitely a disease. if your hair is falling out , your body is trying to tell it’s under attack(most likely because of stress/inflammation)
@@rgowlikar1 your comment is incorrect. Male Pattern Baldness is not a disease. Facts matter.
@@Bankai90 yes the conditions you describe are genetic but genetic does not automatically mean disease.
@@zackadesina they say cancer isn't a disease aswell, but a defensive mechanism. Just like a person needs 20years of fuked lifestyle to get diabetes. And since male pattern baldness is correlated with other cardiovascular diseases I wouldn't disregard this so much.

Over 50% of kids have amalgram fillings. I mean how extreme fucked need a kid to be to leech steelmaterial out of your own body. I just say our body imbalances start alrdy prebirth, and get magnified by shitty diets from our parents.
Is aging not a disease?
It could be also a simple mineral imbalance. Not neccessary dangerous till you're 70. Just like prostate cancer usually is ignored cuz u die before it does lower your quality of life.
Most people who have hairloss have on hairtests almost always either toxic amounts or no amounts of copper. And almost always a daily higher intake of calcium compared to magnesium. It's certainly an interesting topic.
you know you could have both. a widows peak usually is inherited or u r born with. the receding hairline u gain overtime within ur life. so u could most certainly have both but once the receding hairline gets strong enough overtime if it ever does, it could dominate the widows peak.
In my case I actually wanted a widows peak, just like Alex Turner's
I not only have a widows peak but I also have a big forehead, I’ve been told since I was in like 5th grade that I look like I’m balding and I’ve always been self conscious about it and the thing is I have very thick curly hair and balding isn’t a trend in my family. My hairline hasn’t even looked like it’s moved at all but I still worry about it a lot. I honestly just think I’ve been gas lighted into thinking I’m balding and I fully believe I am at this point even though there’s 0 indications of it.
Back in 2018 I thought your going to be bald by this time but I was wrong you still kept your hairline which is awesome
hair loss happens in spurts. So you can get a receding hairline that may stay for many years before it procedes to get worse. What he got might be his natural hair that he would keep even without using drugs. No one can predict this tho..
@Chidori457 how do you know?
I was born with an iPhone notch hairline and with low density hair.I am so paranoid and self conscious about it, especially since I’m growing it out and the weight is starting to reveal my scalp more. Plus, my hairlines pretty far back at it’s highest point. A finger from the lowest which is already 6 fingers from my eyebrows ( so I got a 6 head 💀). Most of my life I have kept my hair short while my friends used to do all type of hairstyles from dyeing them and stuff and now most of them have receding hairline but I am doing fine. Try to detect your hair condition early like family traits (alopecia) and take care accordingly
It's just genetics. It has nothing to do with gells, dyes, hats or blowdrying.
I`ve never heard of the brow bone growing in adulthood, but I know the nose and ears continue to grow throughout our lives.

Huh my hair lines been the same since I was born, 32 now and just found out I have a widows peak had no idea there was such a thing 🤣🤣
This is an interesting article on hairloss if your interested:

In my opinion a widows peak is when your hairline makes a U or V shape. If you have just a small couple centimeters of hair coming out in the front, then thats...nothing
U shape is not a widows peak. A peak is a point.
I do have to mention that you can have some temple recession with a mature hairline. It doesn’t mean your receding. It just means your temples are further back. Nothing too bad but people flip out about it

a “mature hairline” is still hairloss, just low level
I think the reason people may confuse Ryan Reynolds as having a receding hairline is because of how deep his temples are. I’m unsure if that makes sense, but essentially on the sides his hairline almost looks diagonal, and that’s just not the typical shape. Great video and I’m going to leave mine thanks to this as I was thinking of trimming the thinning bits at the front
I’m slightly confused. At the start of the vid you explain the v shape varies from the very small part at the front, to then showing the main will a full v hairline. But at the end you say a widows peak is only at the very front?
Which is better hairline widow peak or receding ?
I am 26 .I have v shape hairline . shame hair line as my father . but they are 50 and they have healthy hair . I Am so worried
should I need to worry ?
I am just about to turn 19 and my hairs were going back a bit from my temple areas i totally freaked out thinking i would go bald in my 20 i just think my hairline just matured a bit . Also no one in my family is bald so I think I am leaning more towards a mature hairline for now but i did get i checked and the doctor told me that I am currently at stage 2 of androgenetic alopecia I Just hope my hairs don't recede more
What about Henry Cavill??
He's slowly receding.
@@pedobear497 Thanks. Do you live near Dresden by chance? Could you tell me how bad is the neo-nazi uprising there from a local's view?
Dylan Morrison I don‘t live near Dresden. But the East of Germany has been traditionally more to the right since the fall of the wall. I don‘t think that there is a real Neonazi problem there, though. I think most of it is overexageration by the media.
@@pedobear497 Thank you, and it seems like the Government will intervene if anything flares up.
Interesting info. indeed... thanks for the thought provoking video 💯🤙🏽
3:35 is clearly Norwood 2/3 and has obvious thinning too.
4:32 has obvious recession.
I am worried this might mislead people to not recognize they are balding in time (if they want to treat it).
My hair is one of the best things about me I got a widows peak and I shave mines!
Hi so I'm only 18 and am using another account ngl to write this comment 😂. I've noticed a little bit of hair loss in my temples however this is more predominat on one side. Just wondering what you think to this.
I feel like one day I will go bald but I'd hope this won't be too soon. I know I'm still young and so hoping it's just a mature hairline for now (I can't even grow a beard yet). However I feel like the way it's move back is similar although not exact to yours...
Idk your hair style but maybe you have a tight side part on that side?
Oh thank God I'm slightly receding in my hairline 😅 I'm 16 I think my hairline is just maturing
I thought the same 3 years ago. During quarantine I cut my hair and my hairline is cruced
Is it possible a mature hair line above 40? Nothing happened till 40. Then 1 cm of hairline disappeared between 40 and 41. Finally I have that nice temple, but I do not want more. :)
Have you tried minoxidil ?
I’m 16 and i have a widow’s peak does that mean i will bald ?
do you still use the derma roller?
I already had a widows peak ever since I was a kid. Will it recede further?
I have that JT mature hairline with a full widows peak. My hair isn't thinning or receding what so ever.
I have a mature hairline. But the one thing that bothers me the most is the heavy thinning on the top of my head, you can easily see through to my scalp. What can I do? I am 25
try a buzzcut
Fr tho, people with thin hair and receding hairline look better with short hair
@@whiterunguard1974
What type of short hair? I want try with my barber. 😅
@@RinRain13 a buzzcut, cant go wrong with that, look it up on yt or google
Crew cuts or even French crops don't look too bad either
