When electric vehicles first came out, everyone thought that they were the next big thing. Honestly, EVs had a lot to offer, not just in cutting carbon footprint but also in reducing repair and maintenance costs. However, the reality has been quite the opposite with EV owners having to pay crazy amounts just for a single repair. It's gotten so bad that people prefer to dump their EVs in junkyards when they develop a fault rather than try to repair them. This of course is what we're going to talk about today. So why are EV owners dumping their cars in junkyards instead of repairing them?

Can you actually post your sources? Show us the data? Instead of vague statements like "experts say" and "people are doing this"
    Who are these people?

Maybe QC your ChatGPT script better next time. Electric vehicles have 80% more drivetrain problems than gas cars? Yeah right 🙄
The biggest problem with EVs is that they're not selling well, and the infrastructure sucks in most places. They depreciate a lot, it's not due to service costs though. That's just about the one thing they have going for them, there's less moving parts. That's why service schedule is every 2 years instead of every 1 year, and all they do is replace brake fluid and check the brake pads.

Ford lightning has a modular battery pack. Individual cells are replaced if there is a battery issue.

Most said here is false. The main drive system in an EV requires significantly less maintenance than ICE vehicles. The electronics in ICE vehicles are nearly identical to those in electric vehicles. Everything is module and can be replaced as easily as unplugging a circuit board. Manufacturers could make repairs much simpler by locating all the control board or computer boards in a central location. Doing this would also make it much easier to protect these vulnerable components from EMP. I love my ford lightning, it has been the absolute best truck I've ever owned. It does everything that any of my past trucks did only much moe economically. Gas hog ICE vehicles are out of the picture for me. No more gas stations to operate my truck. In fact I seldom use any electric from the grid since I started charging my truck with my solar system.

I wouldn't have purchased my lightning if I had to depend on public chargers. I often charge my Ford lightning from my home solar system. On really cloudy days I often power my home from the 131 kwh battery in my truck.

The biggest issue isn't the EVs really.
Its the lack of right to repair laws.
If we had access to parts and software, instead of being stonewalled by manufactures and the maker of the EV, repairs could be done at a fraction of the cost - thus greatly reducing the amount of waist.
Most car manufactures look at repairs as a revenue stream, so they will try to maximize it the best they can. A major factor of this is preventing other people from doing those repairs for less.

@@jeffrbake Not sure what you mean by "so many in junk yards".
All vehicles wear out over time, but older EV's are actually staying on the road much longer than forecast.
Most EV's being scrapped are one's that got into crashes and got written off as totaled. They are not being retired because of batteries or because you can't get parts for them.

Battery is the engine right there you have less moving parts, battery usually last longer than gas engine, may be, this is why they have warranty just like gas vehicles, but the true savings is the maintenance, no change oil.
EV mechanics, I have noticed that they don’t even own an EV how can they be trusted as a mechanic to work on an EV. Electricians are more qualified to work on an EV
