I hardly ever comment on TH-cam videos, but this is an absolute master class in educating someone with foundational knowledge to learn the ins and outs of a character. Geras was not on my map, not even close. And now after spending a bit of time in the lab with your video, I can't see myself playing anyone else. I'm so excited to play this character and see how he evolves over time. That combo your little brother did is actually insane. the setup for it might be hard since you need three stacks of the snap and have three bars before. Will definitely try out.
This guide is absolutely amazing bro keep up the good work, it took me awhile to get used to the udrl and 1234 buttons but once I got that down and started to piece together the combos my muscle memory started to kick in, I had chose geras because he seems so unique and doesn’t seem outplayed by everybody. I’m just getting started and this video has helped me alot, i still will have to come back to this video to learn more combos because there is a lot. This video is gonna create geras gods and nothing gonna stop us😈

I have a suggestion. In the combo shown at 9:14, after doing the down back 4 you can almost immediately catch your opponent with standing 122 grab. This does more damage plus it gives you one hourglass for the thanos snap. I’d suggest y’all give it a try, it was hard for me at first but pretty easy to get down really.
You can also get 122 grab after the launcher from ->44 with a slight delay (although if I recall correctly the launcher is a bit unsafe on block) idk if he said this in the video or not I haven’t finished it yet

Geras is so cool! And my jaw dropped when you explained the hour glass, as Im still exploring the characters, so I wasn't sure how it worked, and crazy that you can just build up hour glass by hitting them with it
One thing to add ( I may have missed it) but with the snap of you meter burn you can undo the last 3 seconds of damage and go back to where the combo started. The great part about it is that you can do it while you’re being combo’d so if there’s a gap do meter burn snap and you go back those three seconds 😊. It’s gotten me outta so many jams and I never see other Geras people using it. Also I use Stryker as my Kameo and instead of ending in command grab jail them with Stryker and force them into a high/low/grab mixup
When I catch a grounded opponent with snap, I actually like to go for this combo: F44 DB3, J21, 122 1 + 3 It gives two hourglass after just using the snap and the damage is around 29 or 28%, as well as being meterless, so I think that’s the better combo.
I've been playing fighting games for a long time and I don't even play Geras but this has to be the best tutorial I've ever seen. You beat my firestorm in INJ2 and I'm still salty bout that lol I always wondered why you didn't make videos but apparently you did. Sub Zero has been in my opinion the best kameo pairing with geras. He allows for the conversions you mentioned in the end with sareena, but the freeze also lasts just long enough to get one clock before attacking the opponent out of it, almost like a mix of the utility that both sareena and cyrax can bring to you. On top of this, sub zero extra hp brings Geras back to 1000, and the projectile armor can be used to cover geras mediocre zoning (also allows for safer charging of clocks while at range). I'll make a vid of some of the combos I've labbed out with him and post a link in your comments tomorrow.
@@ForeverKing This is very true, and while not as good as cyrax spin blade, his advancing shoulder can be used to reset the neutral/check opponents at the end of blockstrings. I haven't explicitly tested if it can reversal interrupted or armored but it seems to work after f4-4 to keep the low safe on block. (I believe its -1 with pushback)
I've been finding myself low on meter constantly with geras but this guide changed everything!! I had no idea he's 122 into grab counted towards the hourglass! I'm already trying to find ways where I can use the snap and get 2 charges in the 1 duration. It's gonna be constant snaps against my opponents from here on!!!
Yooo i was looking forward to a geras guide from you, finally its here. Only thing that was missing for me is basic neutral plan and block pressure. I am new to the genre and for me the combos are way easier than knowing what do to do in close combat with geras if i hit a safe string on block for example. But i guess thats just basic game knowledge i am lacking off :D

This is a really good guide. I've been using Rain and Sindel the whole time till today and your guide has helped me branch out into Geras. Awesome Guide and i hope you do more guides, there are so many fun and cool characters on MK1 and they play very different from eachother, like Geras, Kenshi, Ashrah or Rain. Can you do more guides, Kitana cones to mind. But i like setup characters with tons of stuff to learn. But who knows, you make another guide and i may want to pick up another character?
He forgot to mention the fact you can break out of combos from the thanos snap as well, plus regain your health. Simply need 3 stocks, or the EX version.

Nothing but the absolute largest thanks for this awesome guide on Geras cause I was messin around with him and he seems really strong from the way his moves read and the things you can probably do with him but he was really difficult for me to understand. Also that combo at 6:25 ~ was pretty hard to do but feels so good once you nail it

One interesting combo for consideration for a lose of 4 dmg for one clock meter less is - F44 Jump 21 (needs to be at apex) land 122 1+3 = 308 dmg plus one clock

This game is so hype watching you destroy that Sikander guy was awesome, do you play against randoms? This is the first game I take serious since MK9 I really want to be competitive in it but don't have anyone to play with consistently
just for those who don't know cause i haven't seen anyone in a vid mention this but mb sandstorm also adds an hourglass to the thanos snap count while its 1 bar for only 1 added when you can just mb the hourglass and get all 3 or cyrax/sub/frost it still adds more of a reason to go for the mb ss tick throws and learn them all plus maybe find some other ways to use the mb ss itself effectively in certain situations or with other cameos as well to gain hourglasses in situations when maybe you shouldn't while also dealing dmg and applying pressure but amazing vid
I wanted to add a thing with burst it has weird scaling when you ex/mb it in any of Geras’s combos where if you ex the first burst you do in a combo that has multiple bursts the combo does less damage overall but if you ex the very last burst when they are in ex timestop it’ll do more damage than normal and using 2 ex bursts in the same combo does less than only exing the last burst but more than only the first ex for example b1/2 - burst- f2/4 - ex timestop - 4 - burst - f2- command grab not out of corner does 392 no ex burst , 351 only first ex, both ex 363, and only the last ex 409 and this also works for corner combos so if you ever need that extra little damage to close out a game and don’t want to risk a situation where you get armored or something and have an extra bar to spend since it’ll win you the game you can ex the very last burst you do right before the command grab or just before the command grab in any combo that only has one burst being the one before the CG that I’ve found and I mean any including ones started with Sareena once or twice and it’ll do more total damage while it’s more with some combos than others it could allow you to maybe close out some games where your opponent would have lived with just a sliver of hp because you did 392 instead of 409 for example or 421 instead of 442 with the combo that starts with f2/4 into sandstorm but yet again thank you for all the tech in the vid and your brothers vid cause I hadn’t watched it till now they sparked a ton of ideas and your brother did pretty much exactly what I said in the last comment finding setups with the ex sandstorm and other cameos I know there’s probably more out there but that was crazy seeing everything he came up with amazing vids from both of you
Also for the combo you said is gonna be B&B for a while that had the ex time stop and started with f2/4/2 in the corner if you want to make the timing easier for the f2/4/2 after the burst or not make the command grab whiff you can just do f2/4 instead of the full string into ex timestop after letting the opponent fall a little more and it gives you a much bigger window and they’ll be in a better range for the command grab and it does more damage throwing out of the corner by only 1 but less into the corner and if you ex the burst as well it’ll do 448 throwing out of the corner doing only f2/4 and it does 445 throwing out of the corner if you ex burst and do f2/4/2 so it might be better to not go for the second f2/4/2 and only f2/4 and if you actually add a jump 2 right after the first burst and then f2/4 into ex timestop it does 412 into the corner so just a little more damage than the 410 but it’s also easier imo because the timing for the f2/4 is as soon as you hit the ground after the jump 2 and if you throw out of the corner it does 437 and with an ex burst out of the corner is 452 and ex burst into corner is 427 so that might be something you want to try out as well because it seems easier to me and I’ve landed it more times than doing a second f2/4/2 after the burst plus it does a little more damage and if you mess it up and accidentally get them in the timestop where they are halfway in the ground instead of in the air you can switch what you do to a f1/2 burst into command grab and still salvage the would have been 412 into the corner and get 393 into the corner only doing ex timestop and ofc a little more damage if you ex the burst so even when you mess up the jump 2 into f2/4 as long as you hit them with the timestop you get minimum 393 and max 412 one bar into corner
I’m gonna be in the practice room for a week before I start playing online cause, sheesh. For me personally, I drop these combos way too frequently, but once I get confident in pulling these off… it’s wraps.
8:36 when you freeze you're opponent, I do stand 4 into 1 2 2 3+1. You get 396.69 damage and 1 charge to your hour glass 10:50 after the two down back 4s you can also do the 1 2 2 3+1
Great video. Li mei is my main and I'd like Geras to be my alt but the damage difference between the two is crazy. Feels like if li mei touches you it's 40% and geras works his ass off for 30

Sounds interesting. One thing that Sub won't bring is string into kameo into more pressure, but I do like the idea of health buff and anti zoning!

That's the idea! I usually always do B13xDB4, stand 1, 122 grab after every snap. Unless I really really want to keep them in the corner haha

One interesting combo for consideration for a lose of 4 dmg for one clock meter less is - F44 Jump 21 (needs to be at apex) land 122 1+3 = 308 dmg plus one clock

I love this character I was having hard time with his combo but since you mention that use stand light bam I was going off 💯
just for those who don't know cause i haven't seen anyone in a vid mention this but mb sandstorm also adds an hourglass to the thanos snap count while its 1 bar for only 1 added when you can just mb the hourglass and get all 3 or cyrax/sub/frost it still adds more of a reason to go for the mb ss tick throws and learn them all plus maybe find some other ways to use the mb ss itself effectively in certain situations or with other cameos as well to gain hourglasses in situations when maybe you shouldn't while also dealing dmg and applying pressure but amazing vid
I wanted to add a thing with burst it has weird scaling when you ex/mb it in any of Geras’s combos where if you ex the first burst you do in a combo that has multiple bursts the combo does less damage overall but if you ex the very last burst when they are in ex timestop it’ll do more damage than normal and using 2 ex bursts in the same combo does less than only exing the last burst but more than only the first ex for example b1/2 - burst- f2/4 - ex timestop - 4 - burst - f2- command grab not out of corner does 392 no ex burst , 351 only first ex, both ex 363, and only the last ex 409 and this also works for corner combos so if you ever need that extra little damage to close out a game and don’t want to risk a situation where you get armored or something and have an extra bar to spend since it’ll win you the game you can ex the very last burst you do right before the command grab or just before the command grab in any combo that only has one burst being the one before the CG that I’ve found and I mean any including ones started with Sareena once or twice and it’ll do more total damage while it’s more with some combos than others it could allow you to maybe close out some games where your opponent would have lived with just a sliver of hp because you did 392 instead of 409 for example or 421 instead of 442 with the combo that starts with f2/4 into sandstorm but yet again thank you for all the tech in the vid and your brothers vid cause I hadn’t watched it till now they sparked a ton of ideas and your brother did pretty much exactly what I said in the last comment finding setups with the ex sandstorm and other cameos I know there’s probably more out there but that was crazy seeing everything he came up with amazing vids from both of you
Also for the combo you said is gonna be B&B for a while that had the ex time stop and started with f2/4/2 in the corner if you want to make the timing easier for the f2/4/2 after the burst or not make the command grab whiff you can just do f2/4 instead of the full string into ex timestop after letting the opponent fall a little more and it gives you a much bigger window and they’ll be in a better range for the command grab and it does more damage throwing out of the corner by only 1 but less into the corner and if you ex the burst as well it’ll do 448 throwing out of the corner doing only f2/4 and it does 445 throwing out of the corner if you ex burst and do f2/4/2 so it might be better to not go for the second f2/4/2 and only f2/4 and if you actually add a jump 2 right after the first burst and then f2/4 into ex timestop it does 412 into the corner so just a little more damage than the 410 but it’s also easier imo because the timing for the f2/4 is as soon as you hit the ground after the jump 2 and if you throw out of the corner it does 437 and with an ex burst out of the corner is 452 and ex burst into corner is 427 so that might be something you want to try out as well because it seems easier to me and I’ve landed it more times than doing a second f2/4/2 after the burst plus it does a little more damage and if you mess it up and accidentally get them in the timestop where they are halfway in the ground instead of in the air you can switch what you do to a f1/2 burst into command grab and still salvage the would have been 412 into the corner and get 393 into the corner only doing ex timestop and ofc a little more damage if you ex the burst so even when you mess up the jump 2 into f2/4 as long as you hit them with the timestop you get minimum 393 and max 412 one bar into corner

Great video. Li mei is my main and I'd like Geras to be my alt but the damage difference between the two is crazy. Feels like if li mei touches you it's 40% and geras works his ass off for 30
