I like that he is ride-or-die with Liu Kang in MK1. I also had the same feelings about his gameplay and his role in the MK11 story. I thought he was just a boring automaton. MK1 is the complete opposite. He’s my pocket character. I main Ashrah.

The timing on that first combo is so tight after the time freeze, if you start F242 too soon you get a different move, if you’re too slow then you don’t have time for the follow up 122-1+2. Any tips? Or just practice makes perfect?
Just like anything else, it takes practice. The pros don't become pros overnight. They literally put thousands of hours into these games. Take it one step at a time.

Question: How do you make the sandstorm follow the opponent? For instance: I know when you enhance the sandstorm the hour glass appears but it stays stationary. When Im fighting AI I notice that they can make the hour glass follow me and after a short time the sandstorm appears.
When it comes to Kameos, I’m shocked you didn’t mention Scorpion or Sonia or even Jax. I feel Kameos are really underrated on their utility just because early on a lot of people are using brain dead kameos like Sareena and Cyrax. I honestly don’t play Geras yet, I am looking at some Kombos first before I really deep dive him in practice mode, but Kung Lao is probably his best Kameo pairing just because of the meterless advantage you gain off the free time freeze. Then when I think of overall utility including kombo extension, Jax and Sonia stand out to me a lot. Jax can easily combo into his backbreaker off of many strings that I saw Geras perform, and Jax down+KM leaves you pretty safe on block if you realized you may have overextended a bit. Sonia definitely helps with kombo routes once you get the flow started. May even be able to try some sneaky countdown or time freeze setups with her projectile from full range. I even think Goro could be decent at keeping a lot of his strings safe on block. And also when going for the f44 combo starter, if you notice they block low alot, you can cancel the first f4 into b+KM to call out Goro for a low grabbing command throw and free juggle. A throw that also easy to combo into btw. Then Scorpion with his spear pull making you safe on soke combo strings. His cheeky overhead from far poke range, and very easy to combo off fire breath. Definitely need more exploring into these characters with Kameos. Geras seems really cool. Wanted to pick him up from the start but I’ve been labbing Scorpion hard with a bunch of kameos and figuring out how versatile and creative this game allows you to be in fights. (Outside of fights is another story 😩)
Some good points in general re Kameos here and definitely interested to see what other synergy’s are found, but a couple of things to bat back on re obvious choices.. I know sareena is the most brain dead / overused Kameo. It’s because she can easily add decent damage to a combo, which imo isn’t the most important thing. But I think this is actually more important for geras as he’s so meter hungry, and needs to sacrifice damage for hourglasses in combos - sareena can give him the extra damage he’s sacrificing as well as a tool to help against keep away opponents. Also, I think Geras could have some nasty time stops catching opponents over sareenas ground curse. This could be super frustrating to play against. So I think sareena is a legit strong pick for Geras, just so happens to be the Kameo everyone else is using.. As for cyrax, another overused cameo because of the jailing and chip damage of the helicopter spin, which is good for practically all characters, but for Geras, he also benefits massively from the net as you can get 3 hourglasses in one combo using it. This is huge imo. You can get 27% off of a finger snap or use X-ray from it from anywhere on the screen. I didn’t realise kung lao could extend no meter time stop which is also a big deal, allowing you to conserve meter for breakers, meter burn hourglass, or the double meter burn clone ability etc. Along with his low hat makes him another top choice for Geras. All 3 of these kameos have multiple utilities for Geras which I think makes them the best options depending on your play style. I have just started picking geras up since seeing a couple of high level players using him. I want to main him but yeah, practice mode is very different from a real match. I go from being able to do 35-40% combos to punishing whiffs with a grapple instead 😂 panick mode lol. Honestly though there’s so much depth to Geras and so many play styles, I can’t see myself playing any other character now!

That's why you need to swap right bumper and right trigger. I have block (and amplify) on right bumper and it's much, much easier.
