Allysia - I'm relatively new to your channel - just came across this video and the other related RCM videos. Thanks for the introduction to the RCM system. I realize this isn't an instructional program, but rather an evaluation of skill level. And that's exactly what I need. I have a couple different very good instructional online programs. I need the RCM tools both as an of my current skill level, now and I progress, and to provide focused goals to guide the practice sessions in the instructional program. The RCM material will directly score my levels, but I can also use it to (for example, at the early levels) focus on expanding equivalent levels with all keys, not just those tested. i've ordered both Preparatory series (A & B) and the Level 1 and Level 2 sets. Looking forward to achieving both levels and extending into Levels 3 & 4. So - again, thanks for the presentation and explanations.
I'm noticing a deviation from what I see in my RCM lvl tech requirements on a couple of these broken triads in particular. ie: 'a minor broken triads' RH descending has 3rd finger on 1st inversion at 8:45 of the track. Can you spot where I mean? I personally think that this fingering rule can be broken in the context of a piece if the fingering elicits a desired sound. However, in a technical exercise, I think this is a mistake. Love the videos! and I agree with L.P. below; an exhaustive performance of all RCM technique levels would be a thankless gift to all of us out here!
Hi Allysia! Your videos are super helpful and I love your enthusiasm! I've studied violin for 12 years and I started learning piano on my own a couple of years ago. I was wondering what your opinion is on the Michael Aaron book series for piano? I took a few lessons for piano in the past and they started me on that method. How does it compare to RCM and ABRSM? Thanks so much for your input!
Thank you very much for the video. One minor question: when pressing a key, what should the joint closest to fingertips (the one controlling motion of distal phalanx) do - should it be used to provide the force required to press the key, or just stay loose and not do anything?
Hi ! I have my exam this week :) Does it matter where you start the scale on the keyboard ? I noticed you don’t always start at the same place that the RCM book does ?

Would love to see this video done for every RCM level, including Prep A and Prep B! Love your videos!
I think I've done one for grade 2, but you're right - I'll have to go back and do the prep ones! Thanks!
do one for grade two please, i need it for my exam
Very helpful to see this laid out so simply and clearly; it looks doable, within the range of possibility.
+John Kilbourne Thanks! And it is totally doable!
