I find that it helps to just come up with a solid rotation of ways to deal damage to enemies as indirectly as possible. See a bad guy? Don't point and shoot. Equip marksman revolver. Throw a coin. Equip another hitscan weapon. Slap that coin. Another bad guy? Overpump has a solid AOE blast if you dash as you fire. If you feel extra nice with it you can slam a group of little guys into the air, jump up into them, and overpump them into a giant cloud. Like 3-5 of tricks such as the ones above that you can *reliably execute* and a healthy spread of tactics to burst big dudes down before they become a problem should have you sorted. Keep rotating weapons, put in a little time grinding, and you'll get there. I'm sure of it.
