These tips seriously DO work. Yesterday I was too depressed to tidy the front room. So every time I got up for the bathroom, or to make a cup of tea, I picked up one item and put it away. By the end of the evening the front room was tidy and I got myself a nice early night 🌞

I don't like habit tracking, actually. I tend to focus on the missed days and I ignore all the checks. And if life happens (as it always does) and I can't cross off my goal (breaking a leg makes it a lot harder to reach your step goal), I'm demotivated.
Instead, I have a "menu" of things that I enjoy (bike, yoga, walk, fresh fruits, reading, music...) and I try everyday to pick something from that list - whatever I have the energy for - and I simply focus on enjoying it in the moment.

I do this too! It really helps me focus on all of the things I have done instead of worrying about all the things I didn’t do. I use it for food as well. Instead of thinking about all of the things I shouldn’t eat I set a goal of eating the food I should be eating. It makes it a lot easier to eat healthy because by the time I’ve had a serving of carrots, or spinach, or whatever, I end up craving the bad stuff less and feel more natural motivation to eat healthy foods. Plus I don’t feel nearly as guilty when I eat something unhealthy.

Hi my name is Suzie. I have a panic disorder. When I feel that I'm going to have a panic attack I usually have to Stop what I'm doing and take slow deep breaths. I tell myself that everything will be ok. God tells me every time I feel one coming. Listening to Christian music usually helps me. I love listening to Chris Tomlin 😍 his music helps me a lot 😊😀

My husband joined or local youth baseball/softball board and that's been great for him. Giving back and having a sense of fitting into the community and getting out of the house and having some adult time away from the kids has all helped him tremendously.

I need reminders of things like this, I end up working hard to overcome depression/anxiety and feel good for a while, and then some kind of big stressful event happens and I just come crashing down. Its hard, when you are in the middle of it to pull yourself out and do 'normal'. Not having a support system also makes it hard, so coming to TH-cam to find people like you is extremely helpful. Thank you for what you do.

I’m severely agoraphobic, but I’ve set a goal for myself that works on both my Agoraphobia and my physical health. I’ve started talking intense, long outdoor walks. I’m motivated (don’t like that word but it’s the best I can think of) to do this because my Father passed away in December 2020 after a Pulmonary Embolism cause his already poor health to decline. I’m quite lazy and I don’t want a DVT/PE/Heart attack to take me out at 23

January is so dark, not much sunlight plays a big role in depression. This is what works with me… go to Home Depot, and go walk down the aisle with all the bright lights! They are always on, and they are so bright my goodness! You can actually feel the warmth, feels like you’re in Florida. It is so bright and I must say it does something to your mind. Just hang out in the aisle for about 10 minutes, it’s really amazing!

Gratitude when I find it within , oft mental assertion, but the actual awareness of what we’re grateful for is healing to the soul and elevates us in way we could do with anything else . Fullness of gratitude, is pure freedom

I've had to change from extreme issues. It's about belief imho. The DSM has nothing on how to learn how to feel good about yourself.
In the end, working with one very smart PhD, I learned to what I truly believe and spend my time thinking about. It's truly a habit. Joy and feeling good, cannot out-number constant conscious thoughts about the opposite.. Our unconscious gets programmed with *whatever* we spend our time on. It's a real trick to change.

Worth listening to a couple of times. Full of good stuff - particularly like exchanging a beautiful photo each day, reading (Garrison Keillor!), writing down good stuff you experienced, bringing joy to others, rounds of full, slow breathing (do any time). PS. Try planting some seeds on your kitchen counter, nurture them, watch them grow. Extra - take lots of vitamin C and niacin.

I meditate all the time once you understand that it is a state of mind you can do it while walking. I’ve been feeling overwhelmed with the things I’ve let pile up so I started an accomplishment log. I write down with bullet stars everything I accomplished during the day. I also write down anything that is bothering me in that day. A helpful thing is to go back and read what I accomplished and what was bothering me. I find it’s all so ephemeral and doesn’t matter much in the future what I was so irked by in the past. I will write down happy things too, but those don’t happen very often.
I find I am wanting to do tasks as I want to have something to write down in the log.

You really have to find hobbies, habits routines and activities that support happiness and healthiness, brains and happiness both depend on what we do consistently. aerobics, meditation, making music, deep breathing strategies, reading philosophies, getting out in nature, also self love is huge help for me. also I quit other forms of social media four years ago (huge difference) and quit caring about the news in 2010. Also yes practicing gratitude helps me be less pessimistic or negative. So glad I have obtained a job last May that I enjoy for the most part. Also I'm glad I get to volunteer when I can. I try to laugh every day even if its fake or forced. Also dance more often if you can! maybe this will help others.

You have helped me so much with your videos. Have you ever covered How to cope with someone who irritates you down to your core? Like on a molecular level? Someone you can't escape because married them and the divorce is still a little ways down the road? I find myself feeling near rage at the very presence of this man. When he comes in to the kitchen and starts crashing and banging around, running commentary on everything he is doing I have to grind my teeth to remain silent and not just scream at him. Or when he insists on blasting the tv at some insanely loud level while also watching videos on his phone at some crazy loud level, I just have to leave the house. Etc... How does one diffuse this intense emotional and mental result in the face of that which is inescapable? Have you a video for this? Thank you for all you do for us here!

Both parents killed by neglectful med staff 10 days apart. Always wanted to nomad for yr or so but took care of them. Now stuck, anger, sorrow, helpless (cant make the people responsible accountable)Trying best to look forward. Confused, put stuff in storage, nomad then find place. Use inheritance to purchase low cost coop to store things then move in after travel.... how make decision? Many say no decisions right now??? Yikes!

Hi. I for one love the outdoor segments. What I am going to suggest, and I hate calling it it's name ( in the video/audio production industries), is a "dead cat" mic cover. They make them for clip-on lavalier and shotgun mics. It cuts wind noise to nearly nothing. Keep up the great work. And thank you for taking time to do what you do for us.

My dad sent me this as he continues to ignore the collapse of America as we know it. He’s the most selfish unaware person I know and passed on a lot of mental illness onto me but never acknowledges it. The few ‘friends’ he had pulled me aside to tell me ‘don’t be like your father’ ‘there’s something wrong with him’ ‘it’s very hard to get along with him’. He had me at way too old an age and my mind and body pay the price. I agree ignoring real news of how screwed us later generations are would’ve worked for the past couple of decades but ‘ignorance is bliss’ will no longer be an option in the next coming months with hyper inflation, food shortages, new ‘sicknesses’ spreading 🐒, etc. the old man won’t be around to have to deal with those things. But yeah upworthy...

St Augustine said my heart will be restless until it rests in you oh God.
I have done most all of the things that you have mentioned in the video, but without a deepening of the spiritual life in growing closer to knowing and loving our Lord and creator, true lasting joy will never be found. I realize that your channel is not a religious one but to completely ignore this in your video I think makes seem like you can just do this all on your own. We all need God’s help whether we admit it or not.

You talk about God yet you think a dead person (Augustine) has the power to tell you stuff. Do like Abraham and the rest of the prophets in the torah and worship God alone. Seeking help from dead "saints" instead of from the living God leads to the hell fire

I just found your channel and have to say that you are absolutely amazing! I've watched so many videos on motivation, how to snap out of a funk, etc. but every time there has been some sort of sales pitch or lack of practical application. You are amazing. Thank you soooo much for keeping it real and providing such sound guidance. Sending you a huge virtual hug! Keep fighting the good fight. :)

A really fun tip for "Make something." If you're worried about it looking bad or not doing it right, then make it bad on purpose. "I can't draw very good." That's fine! Draw bad! Have fun with making it look ridiculous and silly! Feel like you're terrible at poetry? Make it the sappiest, silliest, worst poem possible. Spell things wrong. Use bad grammar. Mix up the punctuations. Have a hearty chuckle and read it out loud to a friend in the silliest voice (or read it to yourself. Or your pet! They'll love it!) Throw some sticks and flowers in a pile and proudly declare "I HAVE MADE THE BEST WREATH EVER. None shall surpass my amazing art!" Just have fun with it. Laugh at the absurdity. It really helps to loosen up harsh expectations.
