An Under the Radar Town With A German Influence: Waterloo, Illinois 5K.
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 15 มิ.ย. 2021
- Waterloo is one of the few nice cities/suburbs in the Metro East region. It has a strong German influence due to the towns early settlers. It has a more interesting history than most other places of it's size, and it's one of the few cities in Illinois that has seen a continuous population growth over the years.

Amazing video Great information about Illinois history Great people of Illinois 👍👍👌👌
I live in Waterloo. It's a great town. I drive through the parking lot at walmart all the time to pickup groceries! It's better now that the pandemic is no longer affecting local businesses.
I was born and raised in Illinois, and I never knew this little town existed. That was a very informative tour, and I appreciate your obvious informative research about the town! Keep up the good work!
hey Chris i didnt know there was a waterloo Illinois you could play ABBAS waterloo to go with it LOL
My hometown!
My grandparents and great grandparents were originally from this area or close (columbia illinois). My great grandparents spoke German. My grandparents knew some German. Interesting how it lasted so for several generations after my ancestors settled in the area. my gggggg gpa originally came from Germany and settled there.
i've lived in Illinois my whole life and it amazes me all the small towns i know nothing about, thank you for sharing! :)
Me too. I was born and raised in Illinois and there are hundreds of towns that I’ve never heard of.
Born and raised in Berwyn. Apparently there is a Paw Paw Illinois
Haha I live in that town ironically
One of the great things about small towns people are much more nicer and much more polite to welcoming others amazing state of Illinois Great for people Midwest
We've been to Waterloo Illinois and its a really neat small town.
I LIVE IN WATERLOO!!
Hell yeah! My hometown!
Yeah I live there too
This town has been on my "must-see" list because they have a brewery called "The Stubborn German". I laughed when I saw that on Google Maps. I am German and I am stubborn! Need a photo in front of that place--LOL
Do so. It's a great place with great drinks.
You should definitely visit! Stubborn German is a great place! Even better it is walking distance from my house!
Know this town like the back of my hand. Raised all my life
A question for you. Have you ever thought about picking someone up from the area so they can give you a tour of the place?
I know stranger danger. But you could vet them. I would have loved to give you a tour of Waterloo or Monroe County in general.
There are lots of panhandlers in Rockford right now. 😬 You can find one on practically every street corner.
I’m very proud to call this my home!
Wait I live there to
@@TepperPepper791 awesome! Good place to be!
Yup
I love the slow relaxing music.it reminds me of old school slow Sim City 2000 pc game music.Love all your info videos.
I’ve really been enjoying your content! I recently quit working for Amazon and have quite a few memories of a surprising number of areas you’ve visited in Mo and I’L. Spent most of my life around here and wouldn’t be surprised to see my beloved Jerseyville in this mix one day
I grew up in Jerseyville, and go back every few years.
Great video. Really like the new intro, but I do miss you saying, "Let's get to it, shall we?" Anyway, the only Waterloo I was familiar with was the one in Iowa, so I've learned something here. Just want to say here that you are an outstanding documentarian as well as an outstanding urban historian. Keep up the great work. Is there any way to help you out financially, you know, put a few bucks in your gas tank? Safe travels to you, Mr. Harden.
I was only familiar with the Waterloo in Iowa also. Another place, Clinton, I’m familiar with the one in Iowa, but there is also a Clinton, Illinois; and a Clinton, Wisconsin which I was not familiar with. So I guess you learn something new every day.
Thanks but nah, no financial help is needed.
How neat you were in my town! You even passed my house! Thanks for the video!
I live in Waterloo too that’s so cool I think I’ve even seen you before
I live here
I really enjoy your videos, and since I want to slay the monster that is the TH-cam algorithm, I'm leaving this comment.
That's what's up
Does that monster have an interesting hairdo? If not, it’s not welcome here.
Also curious to see if you mention this towns weird obsession with big foot and the Midwestern weirdness of putting faces on trees
There is a Bigfoot statue near Garden of the Gods down in Deep Southern Illinois, as well as The Big Muddy Monster near Murphysboro
I live in Waterloo and there is no bigfoot obsession lol
Just moved here from a place called New Athens
Thank you again. I appreciate this. I don't suppose you covered the safest/highest livability rated medium size cities in Illinois?
What cities do you have in mind ?
@@jameschristiansson3137 I think we have, after MUCH discussion, decided on Pennsylvania. Thank you, though.
What the name of the intro music sounds relaxing
Creepy Joe Alley? I wonder why?
Is this a re-upload? This video was uploaded earlier today.
Yup
3:15 O’Fallon is the nicest town in the Metro East, and there are many areas around it that feature brand new infrastructure and businesses. While there are hoods in the Metro East, Edwardsville, Glen Carbon, and O’Fallon alike are not « run down ».
Sure, but I have a feeling that you know exactly what I meant.
@@ChrisHarden I’ve been a sub for a while, I just took that badly. You make good content don’t get me wrong but the Metro East shouldn’t have the bad reputation it has only because of the crime that happens near the river; that’s really crime drawn in from the STL metro anyway. Corrupt politicians and bad people don’t help.
Are you doing a q&a
I don't have any plans on doing one at the moment but maybe one day.
Great video as always, thanks
Im black and I have been considering moving to Waterloo with my family. Have anyone seen or experienced any racism to a black person?
It seems like a lovely place but I want me and my family to be someone safe before we move. If you live in Waterloo please tell me about how blacks are interacted with and if you think it would be safe to move a full black family there.
I’ve personally haven’t seen any racism, throughout school that is, I’m a senior this year. While a majority of the town is white, everyone is very friendly and I wouldn’t imagine you having any issues.
No I have been no racism in school at Waterloo it’s a good place we do t have many black people but if we do we welcome them bc I foster two black kids and they don’t see any problems at school about race so it’s good safe place to be
Waterloo is a very nice place to live but now in 2024 Waterloo is to close to Belleville and Cahokia IL and those town turned into East St Louis now today in 2024 .
.
Sparta IL is nice too but the State of Illinois is still a black hole of sorrow and broken dreams.
.
Blue nightmare
.
.
Governor Pritzker must be voted out
.
Renault Illinois is nice and it's has lots of land for a family to breathe
Dexter Lombardo 🤠🧔
A Waterloo with no railroad. I'm disappointed. There are two Waterloos in New York, three Waterloos in Indiana, and four Waterloos in Virginia. The USA is chock full of Waterloos. Both Waterloos in New York state are big enough for the Harden treatment. Don't forget Waterloo, Wisconsin, world headquarters of Trek Bicycles. Alas, too small for the Harden treatment.
Bison. American Bison. NOT,,, a "Buffalo"...
At 17:28 is a street called Creepy Joe Alley. Wondering if it was named for a certain politician who happens to be occupying the White House as we speak. 😬
🤣😂 great comment.
