Man I love you! Just cleaned up those connectors on the back of the cluster like this on a Nissan skyline r33 GTR and it’s fixed my speedo!! I’ve been trying to figure that out for ages. If you’re ever in Bristol england I’ll buy you a beer!
I used a CFL in my trouble light, worked not bad, much cooler than a regular rough service bulb.... until welding splatter popped it. Been using a led bulb since. Great video Terry.
+snocrushr I still broke a lot of CFL bulbs , even with adding the little plastic tube . Not sure how well this one would handle weld splatter as it is plastic
Electrical problems, especially intermittent ones are a pain, sometime you never know what the problem was or if it really was fixed. Glad it's working
+TheWreckingYard I may of been able to re loosen the screws to see if it did the same , but hard to want to take it apart again when working to see . Hopefully it stays working
TheWreckingYard Have a 2000 pathfinder cluster intermittently stop working, had it repaired and they said it was caused by the power supply. Guess what? It's doing again after 3 months with no problems. Beats me what's going on with it. Always displays code for speed sensor as the fault, which is new by the way.
Hi there from New Zealand,my 1996 Nissan Maxima SL has a problem with it's tachometer so hopefully your video can solve it's problem.. Thanks for the information & enlightenment. 👍👍
Gday all, to everyone with this issue, I seem to have solved the issue in my 2000 pulsar plus. I leaned all the connectors etc meticulously however couldn't solve it. I had the exact issue as In the video, tap dash and it came back in, after a few weeks it almost would never work though. I trouble shouted forever until I worked out exactly where the issue came from. Behind the speedo there are 4 screws securing that panel, the one above the screw labeled 'batt' is labeled 'gnd' or something similar referencing ground. I loosened this screw while all connected and found when I applied pressure I could keep the circuit working. I put an oversize conductive washer on and tightened rather tightly, which applied enough pressure. All the other screws were pretty tight, but I had to tighten this screw quite a bit more... In the video it said dont tighten too much cause they screw into plastic, however they screw into brass fixtures on the PC, so still dont tighten too much cause brass will strip easily, however u can go tight enough to solve this issue. Hope this helps someone, because I found it difficult getting a spare from wreckers, so kept trying until I got it. I suspect the problem will present again one day and I will have to resolder the pub, bit for now its ok
FYI: 1997 Maxima. Cruise control intermittent. Banging on dash can temporarily make it work. Cause has been loose screws on rear of cluster. 3 times in 22 years. Will also cause auto Trans o.d. light to flash. Code will indicate bad speed sensor (on top of transmission) Back screws off 1/4 turn then tighten all firmly by hand.
Terry, Loved the LED lights! Not too bad getting the speedo cluster out, I've seen some where they seem to build the car around it... Looks like a good fix! Cool video, thanks for posting!
Probably find that it is bad solder joints on the speedometers circuit board. On my Nissan Primera P11 the Unified Meter Control Unit wouldn't display the odometer reading and the tachometer would sometimes glitch out and go crazy. I took the speedometer out and found one of the chips had no solder left on the pins. I've resoldered the whole board with fresh solder, and now it is working, hopefully the repair holds.
+Greg's Garage Thanks . I really like these bulbs because they last and are not very heavy as some led ones , but thinking most led bulbs would prob do good in a trouble light
that seems to be a universal first step method of diagnosis. . just bang on it... haha.. rubbing alcohol saved me from spending $1000 on an "nonserviceable" shift module.. thanks for the video
those screws on the back of the instrument cluster keep loosening over time, so i have to tighten them again every year or two. can i use superglue to ensure those screws never loosen again, but don't cause other problems (e.g., impact electrical contacts)?
Im sure you waggled all the plugs and tapped the cluster while it was sitting on top of the steering cowling. From that flash of a wiring diagram at the end, i can see it has a link to the ecu for its data, if it goes silly again, just see if the ecu is in the dash and fondle its plugs ha ha :-D Ive never seen an inspection bulb like that before, looks like a plastic cast tube with a gas in side, similar to a compact flourescent bulb but a hell of a lot brighter. Looks dam good, and tough :-D
+zx8401ztv I am sure it is because they were loose as speedometer and tach both responded to tightening the screws , and that i have ran in to this before. , but yes i wiggled and beat the cluster all about before reinstalling , but did not want to make to long of video on tightening screws. lol The bulb is plastic and led , i may do a video on it soon
+wtbm123 Ahh i am a dummy, i dont allways read the discription but it said led in it, sorry. It sure is bright, im still not used to leds that do more than a warm glow from the front panel of a cb radio or stereo, but i have noticed that they are normally very directional, that plastic must diffuse the light so it becomes more omnidirecrional :-)
+zx8401ztv I do wish they were 100 watt equivalent , but they are not bad . The one i use is a daylight color and 60 equivalent . I tried the CFL ones , but even with the little plastic sleeve that you can get for them , it comes on the rough service ones . I broke those faster than the inconstant ones .This is the first led bulb i have tried in a trouble light and it is six months old and i have not broke it yet .
+Hot Rod Ahh well i subscribe to about 80 channels, so there is a good chance ive picked the most well known ones for mechanical and electronic repairs. Or you could be stalking me, that would be different HA HA :-D Joking of cause :-D
I have a '98 Almera N15 (the Pulsar's cousin) and have a similar problem with the screen of the odometer. When you turn the car on, it's always blank and the total distances comes in sometimes in 5 min, sometimes in half an hour, but it always works again. With a hit on the dashboard, like he does, it comes back faster. I suppose the Maxima's dashboard engineering is pretty similar, so I'll try to get it out and clean it this way.
hi my friend another great video,i have left you a like,i hope we see you again soon at our channel to check out our latest video many thanks Adam Lynsey and kids.
Corrosion is the killer of powers and grounds. 11:46 that annoying yellow light on the gauge cluster.....told you about those high mileage 4th Gen Max knock sensors. th-cam.com/video/YUm5YuJh8Vs/w-d-xo.html To be honest the cheap ones on Ebay last a pretty longtime and I am no fan of ebay parts.

Thank you for commenting . That is probably true on a lot of them . I may of just gotten lucky . Just glad they never had any more issues .
Good follow up Terry... I love the led bulbs also
They are tough
Nice fix Terry. I am going to try one of those LED bulbs.
+Greg's Garage Thanks . I really like these bulbs because they last and are not very heavy as some led ones , but thinking most led bulbs would prob do good in a trouble light
+Greg's Garage we have been putting those in the house fixtures.......way brighter then the curly type
Right on WTBM hope it keeps working for them. Have a good'nnn
Nice vid Terry and hopefully, you won't see the tach problem coming back.
+stuzman52 I hope it does not come back , well for the tach or speedometer any how . Thanks for watching and commenting
+wtbm123 But the light bulb might keep coming back. ;)
nice vid...great when you just have to clean it and put it back together...leds are the future lol
that seems to be a universal first step method of diagnosis. . just bang on it... haha.. rubbing alcohol saved me from spending $1000 on an "nonserviceable" shift module.. thanks for the video
+Elbows Malone LOL , yep first step bang on it .
How to change diagnosis
That was good it acted up when it did so you could find the poor connection. Nice repair
+Rusty “rustyglovebox” Glovebox Thanks for watching
Finally finished the video. It's good for it too be simple sometimes.
+DE Nichols Yea , I like simple . lol
Nice fix- does that bulb work when it gets real cold ?
+Steve Rob Yes it comes right on in the cold . I am prob going to do a separate video soon on the bulb , That bulb has been in there over 6 months .
those screws on the back of the instrument cluster keep loosening over time, so i have to tighten them again every year or two. can i use superglue to ensure those screws never loosen again, but don't cause other problems (e.g., impact electrical contacts)?
could try reusable thread locker . it would hold them in , but could still be removed
Good video Terry
good video
but my question is 'do Nissan UV ndovu trucks model 2007/8 has an voltage cable for RPM going to instrument cluster'
not sure what those trucks have , sorry could not help
Is there something wrong with your temp guage? The reading is in the half of the meter
Sorry i do not remember now.

Thumbs man , Good repair !!
+ShawnMrFixit Lee Thanks
I have similar kind of problem with my 2002 nissan pulsar ... Bump the dash, and all instruments start working again. I will try this ...
Hope it fixes yours . Thanks for watching and commenting

common for Nissan and infinitis..this year?
+CountrySideClub I think so
I need some of them bulbs!!
+CHOPSHOPUNDERGROUND amazon , but thinking most led bulbs would work well
Car still runs good for a old girl.
+Britec09 It does do good for it`s size
Darn printed circuits..Looks like you got it...For now anyway..
that Tach has a reset ,by now i think you know how to reset it
Thanks
I solder those damm screws in! Lifetime moneyback guarentee.

Not a bad car for being old enough to drink.
+william staten It looks like it has drunk a few times before . lol
dont hit a bump. simple fix
Our roads here seems like one big bump . lol
Пойду постучу тоже.
This will not fix this issue, the issue is a bad speedometer modual circuit board that comes with it.
It fixed this one , it may not fix all but this one was fine after this
Way off topic with your work light bulb... Goodness..!!
